DT9837 With LV SignalExpress

Hi,
I have a Data Translation unit DT9837, and I would like to use it with LV SignalExpress. I know that it can be use with labview, but is it possible to use it with SignalExpress, with the sound and vibration assistant ?
Thank you
Mathieu

The DT9837 is not directly supported in SignalExpress.  It also does not appear to have IVI instrument support, so using the generic IVI acquisition steps will not work.  You will need to write a user step in LabVIEW using the LV-Link software supplied by Data Translation to get this to work in SignalExpress.  Use the supplied templates so you can get intialization and finalization of the instrument to work correctly.  Let us know if you run into issues.  My apologies for the lack of direct support.

  • Video recording with USB 6509

I am working on one project. In which I have CCD image sensor with EIA B/W video camera and its output is connected to Analog Front End(AFE). The output of AFE is 12 Bit Digital data at the rate of 9 MHz. I am thinking to use USB 6509 for data acquatision from AFE. Actually I want to produce one video file(e.g. 30 second video) from the AFE that is the reason I am using USB 6509 to get the digital data in my computer.
I know USB 6509 is compatible with LABView SignalExpress software.
Now, My question is, as I have data to my computer using USB 6509. How can I generate video file (preferrable lossless compression) from the digital data using the SignalExpress or Do I need any other software?
FYI: I am new to LABView.

    Hi erhk,
SignalExpress will not be able to create a video/image from the data; though, it will allow you to acquire it. If you can get the data into a 2D array of pixel values, you can use LabVIEW with the Vision Development Module to create a video with it. There also may be other programs out there that can convert the 2D array to a video/picture file.

  • How to move projects from one computer to another?

    Hi,
What is the best way to move a project in labview signalexpress from one computer to anotherone and include all log files?
As i try i get the error mistake ""the project that you just opened contains logs which are linked to the following deleted files. you need to restore these files in order for this project to work correctly".
    Thanks for reply!
    Erik

    Hi Erik,
I hope your well and sorry for the delay... busy day in the UK Office!
So here is some information on SE LE and Full Differences:
LabVIEW SignalExpress Limited Edition, otherwise known as LabVIEW
SignalExpress LE, is software included with all National Instruments
NI-DAQmx supported hardware devices. It allows the user to acquire,
log, and export data with ease. With LabVIEW SignalExpress LE, users
are now able to create one log per project and then export the
collected data to ASCII or have it displayed in Excel. LabVIEW
SignalExpress LE meets many basic data logging needs.
    However,
LabVIEW SignalExpress LE does not provide more complex data logging
functionalities. It is not capable of inline analysis functions, data
logging alarms and events, documentation view, multiple data logging
files in a single project and other more advanced data logging
operations. These features are all available with LabVIEW SignalExpress.
    When
LabVIEW SignalExpress LE is first installed, the user is given a free
30-day trial of LabVIEW SignalExpress. After the 30-day trial period
has expired, the user either chooses to register their copy of LabVIEW
SignalExpress to continue using the Limited Edition or purchase LabVIEW
    SignalExpress.
By default, LabVIEW SignalExpress LE displays
only the features available in the Limited Edition. The settings can be
configured so that the steps available in the Full Edition are also
displayed. Select Tools>>Options to display the Options dialog box. On the General page, select Yes for the Show unlicensed steps option.
    For
a summary of the differences between LabVIEW SignalExpress Limited
Edition and LabVIEW SignalExpress features refer to the following chart:
    (See Attachment)
So this leads me to beleive you should be okay.  You can copy and paste the SE.proj file from machine to machine.
Let me know how you get on,

    Hello,
The best to way drive digital outputs while acquiring analog inputs is to create two steps in Signal Express. Each step will execute relatively at the same time but there is no way to correlate or synchronize DIO with AI on a 6008 because DIO on that device is software timed while AI is hardware timed. Below is the 'Getting Started with Signal Express' manual which can aid in creating an AI and DIO step. Also, if you need additional examples later, they are located in the Help->Open Examples.

  • Signal Express Play Back Help

I have logged a signal in Signal Express. The logged signal was a force aquired from a NI DAQ system. The logged data consists of a number of peaks all of difference magnitude and period. My goal is to get a list of each of the peaks maximum amplitude so I can later average these force components for analyzation.
I can already find the MAX amplitude using the amplitude and level function. This does not help me though because it only records the maximum value over the entire experiment.
Can I do this application in Signal Express? I do NOT have the ability to purchase addtional software such as diadem to do this. I am hoping to carry this out all in the LabView signal express project.

    Hello erb174,
In LabVIEW SignalExpress, there is no direct way to get all of the peaks in your signal.  However, during playback, you have the option to break your playback file into smaller chunks instead of playing back the entire file all at once.  To do this, from the playback part of the project, select the tab Playback Options.  In there, there is a block size input in the Playback block configuration section.  Using this, you can select the number of samples of your recorded signal to playback at a time.  You can pick a number of samples that is sure to contain only a single peak.  I then used the Amplitude and Levels step to search for the peak in the current subset of my recorded data.  From there you can save this data to an LVM file.  This will get you a list of peaks you created.
You could also consider creating a custom LabVIEW step that would search for the peaks for you.  After you create this step you can distribute it with your SignalExpress project.

  • Fatal Error!! Required NIPathsDir property NIDIR is undefined.

I receive this message while trying to install the signal express sw.  When I get this message the installation is aborted.  My scope is also not recognized by my pc device manager.   I do not have labview installed on my pc, do I need it?

    Steve29,
I apologize that you are having trouble installing SignalExpress. Is this with the SignalExpress 2.0 installation CD?  If so, can you run the installer using the following in a command prompt :
    <PATH TO CD>\setup.exe /log c:\temp\SEinstallerlog.txt
This will create a logfile from the installer in your "C:\temp\" folder with the name "SEinstallerlog.txt".   Send that installer log to me at [email protected]  I'll look at it to see what happened and get back to you with a way to correct it.  This error should never be displayed in a released software product and I would like the logfile so I can see why it happened and correct it.

  • Read and save voltage measurement

    Dear NI Technical Support personnel,
I am using LabVIEW Signal Express 2.5 to measure the voltage with time using USB-6211 . If I want to record the voltage using a sample rate of 1000 Hz. for a certain time e.g. 2 hours. Shall I start with Record or Run if I want to save the data? If I start with Run then I Stop would the data then be saved if I click on Record?
    Thank you

    Hi,
With LabView SignalExpress, you can record data by either pressing Run, then pressing Record or by simply pressing Record only. In both cases, it should ask you to confirm which channel you want to acquire data from before the recording process begins. Data won't be recorded if you were to press Run, wait two hours and then press Record, as no data will have been recorded in the interim period.
I hope this is of help to you,
    Dan

  • LabVIEW / Mass Spectrometer Setup

    Good afternoon,
I began progamming in LabVIEW only a few weeks ago, so I apologize if I use terminology or describe something incorrectly.  I recently began a post-doctoral position, and my first project is integrating a SRS mass spectrometer with a catalyst desportion instrument we bought.  It's extremely convenient that LabVIEW modules are provided for the mass spec in question (http://www.thinksrs.com/downloads/labVIEW.htm).  As such, programming is much easier.  However, I am having difficulty in figuring out how to initialize the mass spec unit.
Basically, I would like to have a USB-6000 receive a current from the instrument (the purpose of the current is to mark when the mass spec should turn the filament on) and from this input, initialize and run the mass spec.  To accomplish this, would I be better served to use SignalExpress with the mass spec VIs, or use LabVIEW with the SignalExpress input (IVI DMM Acquire)?  Or am I completely off base and will need to use DAQmx software?
    Thank you.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thank you for the additional information.
    1. The mass spec apparently communicates via an RS-232 serial port or ethernet.
    2. The other instrument communicates via ethernet.
    3. What you describe as "an internal RS232 cable" is more likely a cable with DB-9 or DB-25 connectors but is almost certainly NOT carrying an RS-232 signal.
To communicate with the mass spec will require a serial port adapter (USB to RS-232) if your computer does not have a native serial port (as most do not thees days). The ones with FTDI chips have a much better reputation for instrument communication than others.
Before you splice the cable check the manuals to see if you can trigger the mass spec via the communications port. If you can, that may be much easier than setting up an analog output program and splicing into the cable.  The timing is likely about the same.
I do not know anythng about Signal Express but doing this in LabVIEW should not be too dififcult. The LV drivers for the mass spec are old but were written by David Moore, who has a very good reputation.

  • Synchronization of PCI 6143

    Hi,
I need to synchronize a high speed camera with a pressure transducer. It should capture frames everytime data from the transducer is recorded. I have a PCI 6143 card and I am looking for a way to do this with LabVIEW SignalExpress. The camera can be synchronized via an XLR connector. The image is taken when signal is activated through the connector (the positive input becomes less than 2V more positive than the negetive input of the connector). It used edge-synchronizing and the signal must be passive before next synchronizing edge is accepted. Please give directions to tackle this problem. Thanks

    Hi,
You can use Analog or Digital Triggering (according to data recieved from the transducer)and then send the DO to you connector. I think that would work...

  • LeCroy Waverunner 640Zi -- Data Acquisition

Hello... I am trying to set up my waverunner oscilloscope with LabVIEW SignalExpress for data aquisition.
Steps I have taken thus far:
    1. Pulse generator hooked to scope for signal generation
    2. USB from scope to Computer with LabView installed
    3. Downloaded lecroyscope driver 3.2.9-x64
I turn the scope on, and plug in the USB to the computer and SignalExpress starts up.
    a. start using data aquisition
    b. add step/aquire signal/ IVI aquire/ IVI scope aquire
    c. create new IVI session .. resource descriptor (I choose my USB device "USB0::0x05FF::0x1023::2812N61507::INSTR"), I select the correct driver (lcscope), and I don't click enable simulation data, hit ok
    d. I keep getting configuration errors
    e. Did research.. some forum said to goto MAX, find drivers and unclick Cache and Interchange Check
    f. Trying to initialize ... still get config errors.
    g. Back to MAX .. change simulate with specific driver.
    h. Initialization works... NO errors, BUT no data is being aquired.
    PLEASE HELP !

    Hello,
Sorry to jump in so late, I have been out of the country for a while and am still catching up on things in my office.
I think you are looking for someone to say "yes, you can connect to the scope with NI-MAX and the VISA Interactive Tool, and here is how to do it"
    A few things:
The LabVIEW driver for XStream scopes is the right one.  It works with all of the TeledyneLeCroy Windows based scopes.
As I see was already pointed out. (I will give Kudos soon), the scope must be setup to use the USBTMC interface.  To do this, go to the Utitlites pulldown menu on the scope and select "Utilities Setup..." on the tabs that appear at the bottom of the display, select the "Remote" tab and ensure the interface type is set to USBTMC.  This will also show you the VISA resource (I see it in the title of the VISA interactive tool image shown in a previous post).
Once this is selected, the PC should detect the USB connection and install the device. (you can see it in your device manager as a USB Test and Measurement Device:
Once this is done, you can then go into NI-MAX and it will detect and show the resource.  You can now communicate with the device:
If you have any challenges, feel free to give me a call and I am happy to walk through this over the phone.

  • Power factor in signal express

I have my voltage and current waveforms into SE and am having trouble trying to measure the phase angle between them so that I may calculate PF for logging purposes. Is this possible with SE or do I need a higher powered platform (LabView)?
    Thanks
    Randy

    Hello all,
I would like to clarify that LabVIEW VIs can be used in signal express, however they need to follow specific guidelines defined in the following knowledgebase articles:
VI Guidelines for User Defined Steps In SignalExpress
Using a LabVIEW VI with LabVIEW SignalExpress
The EPM VI's , linked in previous post, could be modified to conform to these guidelines, however to do so LabVIEW is required.
To use LabVIEW VI's in Signal express follow these steps:
    1. Add Step --> RUN LabVIEW VI (choose proper version for VI).
    2. Select VI or source distribution (.llb) Path and configure the proper settings for  your application.
More detailed information on how to run a Labview VI in Signal Express can be found at the following link: Signal Express Help: Run a LabVIEW 8.6 VI

  • Data acquisition problem with NI-DAQmx 9205 and SignalExpress

    Hi everyone,
I am using a NI-DAQmx 9205 connected via ethernet to my computer and Labview SignalExpress running to acquire data. I am working with EMG and I use an amplifier system from GrassTechnologies (http://www.grasstechnologies.com/products/ampsystems/ampsystems.html). The way it works is the electrodes are plugged on the amplifier system and the amplifier is plugged to the NI-DAQmx 9205.
I don't know how to setup the system to be able to read properly the emg signal on SignalExpress.
Does anyone know how to use it?
    Thank you for youe help
    John

    Hi John,
If I were an Applications Engineer I'd probably be able to figure this out on my own but would you mind elaborating on your hardware setup a little? You mention plugging into a "NI-DAQmx 9205", however the NI-DAQmx is the data acquisition 'driver', the [NI]9205 is an Analog Input Voltage module. Do you mean to be plugging into a Compact DAQ or cRIO?
Also, I'm not familiar with EMG readings or the amplifiers/electrodes you're working with.
What is the signal type going into the amplifier from the electrodes, and what is the signal type and range (amplitude) of the signal coming out of the amplifier; AC, DC? I'm assume it's all voltage?
Straight voltages are pretty easy to work with provided you can scale it to usable units.
Lets get your hardware and signal types figured out then we'll be able to tell Signal Express how to handle those signals.

  • Failure to Load Project: OA Express Datatypes not Compatible with SignalExpress 2014

    Hi,
since a few days now, I am trying to get SignalExpress 2014 Full running on my workstation. I deinstalled and reinstalled all National Instruments components multiple times, but I always receive the following error (see also the picture attached) when I try to open a certain project:
    Failure to load project
Installed component versions are not compatible with the version of the SignalExpress 2014. Please install the latest versions of the following:
    1) OA Express Datatypes
Previously, there was also "DAQ Assistant" mentioned in the list of missing components/components with incompatible versions, but I could solve this with installaing NI-DAQmx. But I could not find anything looking for "OA Express Datatypes" --- I neither know in what package this component is located nor what the purpose of this component is.
    Any help is appreciated.

Just did a downgrade and it's working again, here are my versions.
    linux 3.9.9-1
    linux-headers 3.9.9-1
    nvidia 319.32-2
    nvidia-utils 319.32-1
    bbswitch 0.7-4
If you have conflicts, I found it easiest to remove those (bbswitch, virtualbox in my case), downgrade linux and then install the appropriate  bbs/vb packages

  • Why doesn't SignalExpress communicate with TDS3054B scope?

    HELP!
I have a TDS3054B scope with v3.39 firmware installed on it.  I want to communicate with it using SignalExpress but can't!  I can see the instrument in Measurement & Automation Explorer (v4.2.0.3001).  It shows up as GPIB0::1::INSTR.  I have a USB-GPIB cable going from my laptop to the scope.  The laptop is running LabVIEW 8.2.  I have installed the drivers for the scope from NI's website but still can't get it working...
I can communicate with the scope using Tektronix's OpenChoice Desktop software, but that software is limited in what it can do...
    Any suggestions?

    Thanks again, Kent.
The article helped some, but I still don't have it working...
