Dts and ac3 - incompatible format

I have been given some pre-encoded dts and ac3 (5.1) files that were encoded on a windows audio encoding system. DVDSP gives me the "incompatible format" message and cannot import them. I suspect the data itself is fine, and there is problem with the file headers on the windows-created files.
Anyone know of a way I can force the files to be readable to DVDSP from my mac, or any tips I can give the person doing the encoding on making the files compatible with DVDSP?
the extension on the dts files is .dtshd
I am able to open the ac3's with VLC, but not with any apple programs.
Any help would be appreciated.

One of the reasons for non-importing AC-3 file could be wrong parameters. Have you specified your requirements for AC-3 files (bit-rate, metadata, etc). Can you see the file parameters in VLC?
DTS files used to come in two flavors, before HD-DVD and Blu-Ray were invented: padded dts file (.dts) and compact dts file (.cpt). The new HD formats pushed the envelope pretty high, and extension such as dtshd could signify exactly that: DTS-HD file which is not compatible with SD DVD specs.
DVD SP can import only compact dts files with .cpt extension, and it is very finicky about parameters.
For example earlier version of Minnetonka's DTS DVD encoder, copies of which can be found on the web, have a bug that prevents DVD SP from importing the files produced by it.
You should contact the audio house and ask them about procedures and parameters used to create the problematic files

I have this problem, see in my windows xp partition my dts and ac3 passthrough works flawlessly, but in windows 7 i can't get any kind of recognizable signal from my soundcard to my reciever.
So my short question is, is this something that is an known issue with the drivers so far?
is there som quick fix, or am i just a bit slow
it's a pain to have to boot another OS just to watch a movie... still i know my soundcard is getting a bit old and if there's no easy solution i'm thinking of getting something newer to save me the trouble.
but i think it should not be such a big problem to just shovel along the signal without decoding it!
I have the plain Audigy 2 without any extras or letters at the end.

i didn't think to check if there was a creative console with the drivers, i thought the windows 7 nati've control panel overided all that. set the creative control panel to passthrough and voila... it works

Export AVI video trunked and "incompatible format" comes back with DSP

I'm trying to export a my digital video created with iMovie in AVI format, but the final video is trunked after 7 min. At the same time I tried to generate the .mov file and import it into DVD Studio Pro 4, but an "Incompatible format" comes me back. Help me!

Different start for DTS and Dolby AC3

I can play my movie either in DTS Dolby Digital 5.1 by setting the audio track using a Audio set up sub-menu. What I would like to do is on choosing DTS in the sub menu to see a short DTS intro rather than a Dolby intro when I play the movie. Does anybody have any ideas how I can tell Encore that when I choose "play movie"
If audio track 1 then say playlist 1 or
If audio track 2 then playlist 2

Not to be a pedant, but please ask Dolby Labs before using their films!!
You'll need to sign a TDA with them, and agree to submit examples of your final disc for quality control by Dolby.
This is a free service, as long as your Dolby Digital 5.1 encoder is a properly licensed one, like the SurCode one in Premiere Pro.
Ditto DTS.
You'll need to sign the agreements, and they will check the suitability of your encoder before sending you the files.
The idea behind this is that those trailers are a guarantee to the end user of a certain technical quality - and Dolby Labs do prosecute people using them illegally.
One of the benefits is that both DTS and Dolby Labs will send you pristine copies of the trailers, as well as EPS logo files as well (You also cannot use the Dolby or DTS logos without permission either)

File import to DVD Studio Pro-incompatible format

i made from an final cut studio project with DVCPRO HD 720 50p material via compressor an new compressed file with ".mov" suffix.
the attitude in compressor was:
H.264 10,3 Mbits/s for HD DVD
the film is about 20 minutes
also after repeated tries it dosn't work.
i get the announcement:
"incompatible format" when i try the import

Are you trying to make an SD DVD or an HD DVD (which only play on Macs, and the now obsolete HD DVD players)?
If you are trying to make an SD DVD, then you are using the wrong format. Export out of FCP using the DVCPRO codec. Bring that into Compressor and make a MPEG-2 for your video and a AC3 for your audio. Bring those files into DVD SP.

"Incompatible format" when importing H.264 NTSC .mov file

DVD Studio Pro 4.0.3. G5. OS X 10.4.11.
Created a new SD DVD project, NTSC. Tried to import a .mov file: H.264, AAC movie file: H.264 Decoder, 320 x 240, Millions, AAC, Stereo (L R), 32.000 kHz. FPS: 15.
Message: "Incompatible format". Exported to PCM audio, no dice. Exported to DV/DVCPRO and PCM audio, imported OK. Any suggestions? Thanks.

DVDSP only accepts a fairly narrow range of file types when it comes to importing.
For video, that means files that are in editing codecs (like DV/DVCPro), if you want DVDSP's internal encoder to process them. Otherwise, if you want to encode elsewhere, you must present it with either an MPEG-2 file (usually preferable) or an MPEG-1 file. Since your source file is smaller-than-the-norm frame size, MPEG-1 would have worked for you. Though DVDSP, only accepts 23.98 or 29.97 frame rates in NTSC land. (of course, for PAL projects, 25 fps is cool)
In terms of audio, .aiff or .ac3 are acceptable.

Incompatible format message

I'm getting a successful Compressor message but when I try and import into DVD Studio Pro it keeps telling me the file is in an incompatible format. I'm using the 90 minute DVD template so I'm unsure why it won't cross over to DVD Studio.

Verify this is is for a standard definition DVD (not HD DVD?)
What files do you get? m2v? ac3? Which one is generating the error?
What version of Compressor?
Have you altered any of the settings?
That sort of stuff.

Can't open project - incompatible format???

I just did a project on DVD studio pro, and ultimately made a disk image of my final DVD (standard procedure for me.) Anyway, I opened up the disk image and was checking it out on the DVD player (on my Mac) and realized I forgot to set one of the buttons. Not a huge deal, I can just go back to the project, set it, and redo the image, right? Yeah, not the case. When I try to open the project an error comes up telling me that the project cannot be opened, that it’s an incompatible formate???? I just had the project open 5 minutes ago, and now it wont’ open??? Any ideas? It shows it loading the project up, and this happens as the end of initializing the assets.
I could understand if there was something with one of the assets it didn’t like, but that should have been a problem when I tried to import the asset from the start. I got all the way to a finished disk.

Have you recently reinstalled FCE and forgotten to update it?

Incompatible Format question

Thanks in advance for any help. My problem is that I have a .mov file that I'm trying to put into DVD studio pro and I keep getting the "incompatible format" message. I don't know why though.
Here's how I made the .mov file though. (By the way, this for work in case you are wondering). I took a DVD of my boss speaking and ripped it and then exported it using MPEG Streamclip to a .mp4 file. I took that into FCP and added some graphics at the beginning and end from Motion (exported to .mov files though) and some sounds and then exported all of it to a .mov file. The odd thing though was that these exported super fast compared to how long it usually takes (which I'm thinking is the problem). I have two video and both are around an hour each, and both get the same message. But when exporting them, they took less than 15 minutes to export, where as I usually have to wait longer for videos that length. Below are the format stats of the 2 .mov files. MIght help. Again, thanks for any help.

To spell it out, with your h.264 file open in QT, do a *File > Export* and select +QT Movie+ (in case that's not already pre-select) from the Export drop-down. Hit the Options button, then the Settings button under Video area to use DV-NTSC as the Compression Type. You'll also probably be best off adjusting the Size to *NTSC 720x480 4:3* as well.
This is just to speed you along your way. If you were to start from scratch, I'd listen to Russ - use Demux in MPEG Streamclip to produce a DV-NTSC file from the get-go.

Cannot write medium - incompatible format

Keep getting this message "the recording device reported the not ready error. Cannot write medium - incompatible format (0x30, 0x05)
Any suggestions?

If you more details on the project, the burner you are using, how you are writing the project, the DVD-R (is that what it is?), the set up of your computer (says PowerMac 7.3? and which OS of 10.4) it can help narrow it down

My SuperDrive reads and writes these formats. Is this right?

OK, another SuperDrive thread, I'm sorry! After some experimentation last night, I came up with this list of what my drive does.
Read Verbatim 4x DVD-RW movie - All OK (didn't see it first time though)
Erase Verbatim 4x DVD-RW - Toast & DU says Incompatible Format! Erased it in my external instead.
Write Verbatim 4x DVD-RW - Drive spits it out. So no erase or write, just read.
Read Imation 4x DVD+RW - Doesn't recognise there's a disk in there
Erase Imation 4x DVD+RW - No (see above)
Write Imation 4x DVD+RW - No (see above)
Write Imation 8x DVD-R - OK
Write Verbatim 16x DVD+R - Failed in Toast
So I can read DVD-RW, DVD-R, and write to DVD-R. That's it!

David, rather than expieriment your Provile from your Pioneer tells it all except a couple of very important things.
The Media quality, in other words
The problem is multi-dimensional.
First check in your particular profiler on EXACTLY what type(FORMAT) of DISK's your burner will burn.
Next please do not just randomly go out and buy a spool of 30 50 or 100 disc's because they are on sale.
There is a HUGE difference in the type format disc's you buy
There is also a HUGE difference in the BRAND you choose, some are junk.
There is also a HUGE Difference in the SPEED of the media you choose.
If any one or a combination of any of the 3 mentioned above can cause burn error's or no burn at all or spit the disk out.
So it is a good idea to do a little homework on your Optical Drive and see just exactly what it is capable of and what it will use for media.
(ONE LAST NOTE)
Many of the Media Manufactures are becomming aware that many of the Apple Burners are having trouble with there Media. Maxell has just come out with a brand new one that is. Maxell 16X DVD-R.
The key is read the packaging. this new media tells you that it will burn at any speed from 1X through 16X, and it works very well on the older Optical Drives. I also opt to use the individual that include the cases there seems to be much better quality, not like that of the spools.
Remember Apples Drives to date are much pickier than those used in the PC community.

Hey everyone. I'm really at a loss here. I'm using FCP 4.5 and compressor 1.2.1 for my video files. I've tried several encoding codecs, iDVD, DVDSP and even a basic drag and drop - using the finder - to burn DVDs and I get the same error message EVERYTIME: incompatible format (0x30, 0x05)

I've got plenty of thru-put, drive space and updated firmware. I've tried lowering the write speed (all the way down to 2x), lowering the data rate, using mpeg-1, mpeg-2, DV NTSC, NOTHING WORKS!!! There has to be something I'm missing. The fact that I get the same error code using all 3 burning methods (DVDSP, iDVD, finder) makes me think the problem is either in the configurations of FCP or compressor , or it's a hardware issue. I have projects that I need to get on disc ASAP and am completely stumped. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks

Tried building to the drive - drag and drop quick burn right? No dice. My burner handles cds no problem. But it doesn't work in the finder, in DVDSP or iDVD. A buddy told me there's a hardware refresher button on the logic board. I'll try that and if it doesn't work I'm taking it into the mac store.
Has anyone ever heard of a burner that can burn cds and not dvds (as a glitch, please no sarcasm guys) ? Mine is SUPPOSED to be set up to do both. Thanks

"Incompatible format" with DVD Studio Pro

I'm trying to put together a DVD with DVD Studio Pro. When I transfer the movie into the "track 1" area in DVD Studio it says "Incompatible format". I've tried going under "preferences", then under the "project" tab and selecting both HD DVD and SD DVD but neither setting makes a difference, it still will not accept the clip. I've gone into the "General" tab under preferences and tried setting the resolution to the same as the movie file and still nothing. Does anybody have any suggestions as to what might be going wrong?
Just to let you know as well, I have a smaller file that I've tried inserting into DVD Studio and it seems to work fine. Both this smaller file(891MB) and the actual movie that I'm trying to add(22.1GB) have the exact same attributes when checked in QuickTime using "command + i"

Your best bet is to encode the video outside of DVD SP to an m2v stream. Are you making a SD DVD or HD DVD?

Import Assets Incompatible Format - Apple HDV 1080i60

Isn't HDV 1080i60 a format the DVDSP 4.1.2 can import?
I recorded an event in a Gym in HDV with my Canon HV20, uploaded into FCP5 via HDV with the sequence presets using HDV-1080i60 compression.
After adding markers and markers I rendered it, and export>quicktime settings>current settings. When I tried to drag it into DVDSP (compressor will not connect to batch after the last quicktime update so that is out until I reinstall it) DVDSP gave me the Import Assets Incompatible Format warning box.
Any insight is appreciated.
I did go back to FCP and export it as DV NTSC 58kHz and it imported fine.
I guess I just don't know what will give me the best looking DVD from HDV: Change using export via FCP or Compressor or DVDSP - or do they all use the same QT engine to convert?

HD DVD is not blu-ray, just an FYI, so not sure if you are asking for blu-ray or not?
Anyway with FCP 7 you have the ability to create limited blu-ray discs onto regular DVD-R/+R (and also the same for HD DVD via DVD SP) that will play in HD DVD Players (if you happen to have one and burn the HD DVD flavor) or blu-ray players.
By limited (more so on blu-ray side) think of it is a simple menu that has a limited amount of room compared to a full blown blu-ray disc. In other words to put a short thing of 15-20 minutes onto a disc that will work without extra equipment, which can suffice for many things.
Or are you meaning to do something more full blown blu-ray? If the later, do a search for blu ray in the box over there -> in the DVD SP forum, lots of options and methods are discussed.
You can look at a burner like this [one from OWC|http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/MRF8UEBDW8T> which includes Toast and prices are definately becoming more reasonable than they were not too long ago and the media is starting to drop.
Like most things prices will continue to go down some more, so keep that in mind as to whether it is time to buy, or just go with the limited use the system you have can currently do.
