Dts track of video dvd plays at double sp

I bought this DVD "queen - greatest video hits ". It provides a lpcm and a dts 5. 96/24 soundtrack. if I set audio output in the player software to spdif, the audigy2 zs card decodes the dts track at twice the normal speed, playing time and video run at exactly double speed - sound is awfully distorted. the lpcm track plays well, as do other dvds with dts and dolby digital tracks, for example terminator 3, but this is a 48hkz dts track. several dts cds work as well using creative media source player.
decoding the queen dts track with windvd demo version also works great, but it is supposed to work with the audigy2 zs decoder as well, isn't it's?
may there be a problem with the decoder playing 96khz dts tracks, because 2*48khz = 96khz -> double speed ?

ok, I normally use powerdvd 6, now with dts 96/24 decoding pack, and I have the latest patch to version 47 installed.
it is the same again: when using 6 speakers in audio configuration menu, queen dvd plays perfectly, when using spdif output and decoding via zs card, sound is distorted. I noticed that if I activate "show information" in powerdvd, detected sound track changes between "dts 5.0" and "dts 5. 96/24" all the time in spdif mode.
is there a problem with powerdvd AND windvd or the audigy2 zs ?

I used Roxio VHS to DVD for Mac (have iMac with Snow Leopard) and the audio does not synch with the video when playing in iMovie.  Any suggestions to fix?

Thanks for the reply.  I tried playing with detaching the audio in iMovie, but with 20+ hours of video to correct, it would take too long.  After 28 hours, Corel/Roxio tech support replied that it is a known bitrate mismatch problem and they have no real fix.  I strongly suggest not to buy this product.

  • Random Play for 14 tracks/stories in DVD SP

I am authoring a DVD and have 14 separate stories and they are all in 1 track
How can I use scripting to have a random play button in the menu that will cause all 14 tracks to be played in a random mode? In the user manual it talks about how to "Randomly play tracks",
BUT this only selects one track to play.
How can I accomplish what I'm trying to do?

Here is one for Bingo, "plays" 75 different menus with no repeats.
[Bingo|http://dvdstepbystep.com/bingo.php] though it gets slow when you get to 75 numbers.
For 14 sections the scripts can be straight foward (though not as flexible). Partition the GPRMS (1 of them) so you have 16 0/1 holders. Set all the values to 0. Make a random number, check to see if it is unused or not, if unused go to track, otherwise make another random number. Also you need a GPRM that I will call Counter so you know how many tracks, sections have been played, when 14 are played, you have played them all.
So basically (though there are many ways to accomplish the same goal, search random in the PDF) one approach is:
    -Increase Counter
    - If Counter 15 Break out becuase all is played
    - Make Random
    - Go To 3 lines of code to see if the Random has been played or not
    - Go Back To Make Another Random Number if it has played, otherwise marked as played and jump to it
The image below is set up for a couple, you can code the others the same way,
but need to change line numbers

  • [SOLVED] Rip or play back audio/video DVD

Recently I bought a DVD that contains audio content as well as video content. On the packaging it says that it is in the "DVD Audio/Video" format.
Today I wanted to rip or at least play back this DVD on my computer. When inserting a "normal" video DVD into the disk drive, the DE which I am using (Gnome 3.12) displays a notification that offers the possibility to start playback of the inserted DVD. No such notification was displayed for the DVD in question.
Since anyway my original intention was to rip the DVD to my hard drive, this didn't bother me much and I started looking for a program for ripping DVDs. This research resulted in me installing dvd::rip.
Unfortunately, upon trying to the read the table of contents of the DVD, dvd::rip displays the below error message:
Job 'Determine number of titles' failed with error message:
    Command exits with failure code:
    Command: execflow tcprobe -H 10 -i \/dev\/sr0 && echo EXECFLOW_OK
Output: libdvdread: Could not open /dev/sr0 with libdvdcss.
libdvdread: Can't open /dev/sr0 for reading
    [[31;1mtcprobe[0m][31;1m critical[0m: unrecognized filetype for '/dev/sr0'
While googling for problems with DVD playback in Arch, I came across some generic solutions that didn't solve the problem, namely adding my user to the audio, video, and optical groups as well as installing packages for handling DVDs (libdvdread, libdvdcss, libdvdnav).
Is there someone who has managed to rip or play back DVDs in the "DVD Audio/Video" format?

Can you mount the disk and see its file system?  If it is a DVD, you should be able to do this, regardless of and CSS.
Is there any chance this a VCD (Video CD)?

  • When playing a home video DVD using DVD Player I tried to use the "Controls, Use current frame as jacket picture" facility to create a printable image but with no success. Can anybody point me in the right direction?

When playing a home video DVD (created on my Panasonic DVD/Hard Disc recorder)  using the Mac DVD Player, I tried to use the "Controls, Use current frame as jacket picture" facility to create a printable image but with no success. I assume that any file created by this action would be stored somewhere in a common format but cannot find any such file. Can anybody point me in the right direction?

    Hi Sinious,
Interesting to know about 10.8 and Flash. I'll hold off upgrading until they work together. Currently using 10.6.8 at home and same on the Universtity's computers.
Haven't verified on Windows but shall do later in the week if I can get access to a Windows machine.
Both the Flash player and the Projector come up not full screen, and if I leave it that way then things work OK as long as I don't make the video full screen (using the full screen button on the skin).
However if I make the swf or projector full-screen (by using CMD-F or the menu option) then when I click on the menu item to take me to the page with the video on it, instead of a page with a smallish video and back button I get a black screen with no obvious controls. If I then press Escape I get my normal screen back and I am in the page that should have the video but there is not video and the back button does not work. So something wierd is going on here.
If I make a file without any videos with a similar navigation structure everyting works ok except that when I go full screen I lose the finger cursor when I roll over my buttons (which is also wierd).

  • DVD Player not playing video DVDs

This is a new problem on my MacBook Pro. The DVD player has played videos in the recent past with no problem. Now, when I insert a DVD, the computer attempts to read the disk (at least it sounds that way) and then ejects it. I have repaired permissions and researched on the discussion forums, even downloaded VLC to no avail. The CD player is working fine and all non-video DVDs are being read.

are these legit dvd's from the store or burnt DVD's? also try running a lens cleaner thru the system

  • Problem getting HD video to play properly on standard DVD - dropping frames

Maybe someone can tell me the proper workflow I should be using here, but for the life of me can not get my beautiful HD video to play properly on standard DVD's. Footage looks choppy, ie dropping frames.
1.) I've tried editing in iMovie 08', exporting to a 720P Quicktime file (original is 1080p), then loading into iDVD as well as Toast 8. Both play in my standard DVD player like crap (almost like a strobe light is being applied).
2.) I have also loaded the source footage into Toast 8 directly and it also looks choppy.
My source are .mov files loaded from my Panasonic HDC-SD5 into iMovie 08 for editing.
If anyone can tell me what kind of a workflow I need to do in order to get my video onto a standard dvd and play properly, I'd love to hear it.
    Thanks
    Paul

    Hello ipaw,
I think the problem here is a format mixup (I'm no codec pro though)
+1.) I've tried editing in iMovie 08', exporting to a 720P Quicktime file (original is 1080p), then loading into iDVD as well as Toast 8. Both play in my standard DVD player like crap (almost like a strobe light is being applied).+
From what I know AVCHD (the recording format of the HDC-SD5) can be either 1080i or 720p, so my guess is that you shot and edited in 1080i then exported to 720p. The p stands for progressive and, IMHO, that is where the strobe effect comes from.
To go from an interlaced format to progressive (p) you'll need to de-interlace, and that needs some smart software (and skill to find the right settings). On top of that, your source is a highly compressed flavor of MPEG-4, which you're converting to progressive HD.
Why not edit in AVCHD and send the project directly to iDVD?
    hope this helps

  • Move video dvd+menu to Mac to play it?

I have video dvd which I wish to move to my MacBook and so I can play it everywhere; of course I want to keep the interactive menu.
If I made dvd image I have to decompress image when I want to play file?!?
What tool and how to convert this dvd?

You are forgetting what I wrote: I want to keep the interactive menu.
My scope is to preserve a file copy of my dvd because this media is not eternal, I'm sure there is no protect otherwise I would not have published this article.
Handbrake doesn't keep menu structure during conversion process, but I think any ripping software is not able to do it so I thought a kind of image disk to play which keeps compression format with menu.
    Some can help me?

  • IBook G3 Dual USB exporting video through firewire & playing video DVD's

Is it possible to export video from Powerpoint, Final Cut Pro or Quicktime Pro through the firewire port to an external device on this machine?
I am running OSX Panther. I have tried several times to go to several external devices and have had no luck.
Also, is there a way to load the Apple DVD player and play video DVD's on this iBook? I have installed an internal CD-RW/DVD drive, which works fine for burning CD's or reading data DVD's, but I can not get movies to play.
    Thanks,
    MPH

It's very important to determine which iBook you have, since different models use different adapters.
Check out this Apple Knowledge Base article to determine which model iBook it is:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=88039
Also, you can click on the blue Apple logo in the upper left of the display, and choose "About This Mac" from the drop-down menu. It will tell you the MHz rating of the Mac. Clicking on "More Info…" will open the System Profiler which will give you even more information about your computer, including which type of optical drive it has (which, assuming it still has the original optical drive, can be a clue as to which model it is).

  • GX660 DVD drive will not play video DVDs

For some reason the DVD drive in my GX660 refuses to recognise video DVD discs.
DVDs with binary data and audio CDs will be read fine, but inserting a video DVD --any video DVD-- just results in an enormous amount of seeking sounds from the drive before Windows 7 finally gives up on it a reports the drive as empty.
I've had the GX660 for just under a year, during which time the DVD drive has been used very sparingly -- maybe for the installation of no more than a dozen programs.  Never been used for burning DVDs or CDs. Never been used for reading video DVDs which is why I discover it at this late date.
Any ideas concerning this issue, before I turn in the laptop for service?  I'd rather not have to.

In your shoes I'd contact MSI and see if there's a firmware update for the drive to correct the issue. >>How to contact MSI.<<

  • Multiple sound tracks on a DVD?

Is there any low cost/free DVD authoring software that would allow me to put 2 alternative sound tracks on a DVD? DVD Studio is out of my reach, especially since I am not sure I will need that functionality again.
Mac software would be preferred, but a PC would work (yech) if it can record a disk image.
    Thanks-

    12" PB 1 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Thank you for all the answers. I have solved the problem with a shareware encoder called FFmpegX.
I had a movie (Battleship Potemkin), and I wanted to add the score that Pet Shop Boys wrote for it, and I wanted to have the original score to be there too, so I could switch between them, depending on which one I wanted to play.
FFmpegX has mux and demux tools, so I created the new sound track in iMovie to make sure it is syncronized with the video, then saved it as an mp2 file, and then used FFmpegX to mux it with the original video. This also allowed me to avoid converting the video between DV and MPEG, so helps to preserve the quality.
The resulting MPEG2 file can be used for DVD authoring in FFmpegX, but it produces really bare bones DVD. I am going to try Toast and iDVD. The tracks are switched by pressing the "audio" button on the DVD player remote, or you can select the track if you use VLC for computer playback. I have not figured out how to swith the audio using the Title menu.
The double video solution is not very desirable, because the movie is over an hour long, and on a single layer DVD I would have to drop the bitrate to half the original.
