DTT2200 center cable causes distortion

I have had a set of DTT2200 for a while now and they have been generally good. Yesterday though I transported them five hours and plugged them into my brothers audigy card and have a weird problem.
When I plug only the green and black in, the creative speaker test is crystal clear for both fronts and both rears. When I plug in the centre cable I immediately get a loud distortion in the subwoofer, the center speaker starts hissing loudly, and during the speaker test ALL 5 speakers are hissing and sound like the poor test woman has her head down a toilet.
All 5 speakers are fine, i've checked them in different spots, and as i said with only front and rears plugged in it is crystal clear.
Near as i can figure it it has to be one or all of three things
1) My brothers centre socket on his audigy is stuffed
2) The cable/connector is stuffed
3) Something came loose inside the subwoofer and now it's stuffed
I realise my speakers are old now and most people will just say "get a new set and get over it", but if anyone has ideas it would be appreciated.

There are a few threads discussing this and a couple of different things that may be causing it. If its really loud noises like explosions etc that only seem to cause it you probably have the same problem that I do.. you can't adjust the volume of the spdif input, and when the xbox plays loud noises your sound card is clipping it badly. I've posted my 2 cents on it at the end of this thread:

  • SATA cable - cause hard drive errors?

    Hi,
Apologies for yet another post...I've been inundating you with questions in the past week!
My iMac is in for repair, after having the flashing question mark appear and not being able to see the drive in disk utility. Tech Tools scan also showed about 30 errors on the surface scan of the drive. The repair place has just called and left a message that the problem was the SATA cable, and that they've fixed it with a new cable. My question is - would a faulty SATA cable cause errors on the drive? I'm guessing they haven't even checked that, they've just got the drive communicating again....I have very little faith in this place, I must admit.... but just thought I'd ask the question here..
    Thanks in advance.

If you already replaced the hard drive you should know where the cables are and where they go. One is the SATA power cable that goes directly to the power supply and the other is the SATA data cable that goes to the motherboard.
So disconnect the data cable from the HDD and from the motherboard and buy the same length cable at any PC shop or web site. SATA data cables are standard and nothing unique. Just remember where the motherboard connector is.
Freezes can be caused by lots of different things and I'd investigate those before replacing the data cable.
Have you run the diagnostics on the RAM, which is a frequent cause of freezes? Have you reseated the RAM modules in their slots? Do you have the latest drivers, eg video driver, for your hardware?
Are there any updates to your apps and software?
Do the freezes happen when you're running a specific app? Since this seems to happen on the Linux partition is something not fully compatible with Linux..?

  • Ethernet cable causes RF interference?

I have an AE that won't output audio w/o a church radio station on top of the Airtunes. It's really loud in comparison to the Airtunes signal, but when I unplug the ethernet cable the interference goes away. That's great and all, but I don't really like having a router that can't connect to my cable modem. Interference robustness doesn't do anything. Neither does changing channels. Any suggestions? I'm also using a generic Comcast-provided Motorola cable modem. Thanks for any help.
    PowerBook G4, 1.67 gHz, 1GB RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Well, I first suspected that it was a ground problem and started unpluging the power from anything else I had plugged into the same power strip as the AE and clearing other cables out of the way. But then I unplugged the ethernet from the modem to get to another power cable and the radio station disappeared. It doesn't matter where it's unplugged from, just as long as the modem is not connected to the router. This tells me it's not RF interference on the audio cable, cause it sounds fine once the ethernet is out. I wouldn't think Apple would have the audio out and ethernet in connected or unshielded enough to cause this kind of problem, but maybe not. I will try the ground loop isolator cause it can't hurt, but I really think it's something inside the AE or modem. And unfortunately optical is not an option.
I will let you know what the ground loop isolator does. And thanks to both of you for responding.

  • Bass causing distorted so

Hello,?I have a X-Fi Elite card with the Gigaworks S750 speaker system. For some reason lately i have been having problems with my bass. Normally the bass would be excellent, crystal clear, etc, but now it seems to be very very deep, almost too deep, and it causes distortion in whatever i am playing because of this. I have looked high and low through all my settings, and nothing i can think of has changed. I even reset all settings to default and tried again, to no avail. It's getting very annoying now, i even had to turn off Crystalizer because turning that off seemed to reduce the problem very slightly. Has anyone else had this problem? I would love my old sound back again.

    BIOS
Disable the "Memory Remapping" and "Disable execution bit" features in your BIOS if you can. This will disable the PAE kernal in Windows and should rectify the issue 00%.

  • Does moving 'Volume Adjustment' slider up (to the right) cause distortion?

Bought a lot of songs on iTunes and also imported several hundred CDs. Want to adjust the volume on some to boost the quiet tracks and lower the loud ones so everything plays at basically the same volume. Don't want to use Sound Check. Does moving the "Volume Adjustment" slider up (to the right) under "Options" in "Get Info" cause distortion? Hoping it's more like what the name says - just a boost to the playback only volume for that one track and doesn't cause the original digital recording to go into the red.

    Check out -> iVolume
    Works great.
Does moving the "Volume Adjustment" slider up (to the right) under "Options" in "Get Info" cause distortion?
    It can easily do this.

  • Driver for Officejet 6500 E709a needs to be updated. Currently causes distortion of Excel sheets.

Per Microsoft, the driver for the Officejet 6500 E709a needs to be updated in order to resolve a problem which causes distortion of MS Excel worksheets.  http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2010-excel/excel-2010-scrolling-problem/166a8...
From the forum page linked above:
If the issue occurs in safe mode too, change the default printer and check. If Excel works fine after changing the default printer then contact printer manufacturer to update the printer drivers.

There is always a chance that a glitch has occurred with the original driver install.  Therefore, I always recommend, though it may not be an update, reinstalling the printer and software if necessary.  It has solved a number of different types of problems.

  • Inserting VGA-cable causes either crash or black screen on my Thinkpad. Help!

On my newly bought W530, inserting a VGA-cable causes either a crash or a black screen on my Thinkpad.
The above happens every time I insert the VGA-cable which is quite annoying since I use it with my projector every day.
The crashes seems to happen mostly when I have the lid closed and insert the VGA-cable. If I have the lid open I mostly get a black screen (which remains black even when I pull out the cable again).
What could I try in order to fix this?
What driver (or other) would be the most likely cause?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Thanks Adam! :-)
Yes, like I mentioned, the crashes disappeared after installing the latest driver from Nvidias own site.
The remaining troubles are minor glitches which I can live with until NVidia hopefully fixes them with an updated driver.
But it is was really great to see instructions on how to boot into Safe-mode on Windows 8. I've always wondered that. Thanks again Adam! :-)

  • PLEASE help - Elements 8 forcing 16:9 to a 4:3 layout causing distortion

I'm so frustrated with Elements 8 that it's actually starting to make me feel ill now...!
I've been trying for the last four hours to make a simple six minute movie on Adobe Elements 8. I won't bore you with all the details of the intense frustration of using this program (mainly to do with massive massive PC useage which causes the whole thing to crawl along making every task take four times longer than it should) but having finally acheived getting the thing edited and saved it's managed to convert what started out as a widescreen video into 4:3, so everythig is squeezed and distorted.
I've tried everythig in the save area to do it differently, but no joy.
Having researched it as best I could (not easy) I find that there are settings before you save. Basically there are two that apply to me:
    PAL DV Standard
    PAL DV Widescreen
Both squeeze the movie into 4:3.
I've used this program before and got Widescreen in, widescreen out no problems, but not any more.
I've tried searching the help menus, I've tried finding a way to contact Adobe, but total blank.
    Can anyone pleas please help?

Thank you. Adobe forums won't let me copy and paste the question and I've just about lost the will to live with this one after five hours now.
I know that sounds pathetic but it's just ground me down to nothing.
    I give up.

  • MacPro causing distorted video

I am having problems with my MacPro outputting to my TV.
I use a 32" Philips LCD TV as my primary display, and is connected via DVI to HDMI cable. previously i had been using an iMac 20" to connect using the same TV and same cable (with added miniDVI to DVI adaptor). This resulted in no problems at all.
But now with the new MacPro connected instead.....I am getting video distortions occasionally. It looks like the video is not refreshing fast enough and i see a weird horizontal distortion bar run across an area of screen for a second and then its fine again for a while.
Any ideas on how to resolve?
i have SL set to 1080i for screen resolution which should be correct too.

I notice you started another thread with the same question as before (word for word!).
    Google results
I would ask in Logic Pro Discussion (I couldn't find anything on a quick search) except for:
    Video dropouts
Anyone using Mac Pro for more than very light or casual use, I would strongly recommend 4GB RAM. Apple even goes so far as to say that with FCP, it is essential for performance to have a 4 x 1GB (2 x 1GB on each Riser) to enable full 256-bit quad-channel memory bandwidth. The other part, to make good use of four internal drive bays.
Would the Radeon X1900 offer any benefits, though?

  • Using an optical cable causes Bose system to shut off

When I use an optical cable to play ATV2 through my Bose surround sound system, it turns the Bose system off after a few seconds. The Bose system works fine with the other components.

I just use mac the ripper with the following instructions
    http://www.ripdifferent.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=1249&sid=de5cc9506c05b6ba98d6 530884489333
It gives you a few options for audio, I generally save as AAC though you can rip as AIFF and then encode into just about anything with quicktime.

  • Is my firewire cable causing a crash?

My iPod will no longer mount using a firewire cable. It does not mount to the desktop, nor in iTunes. iTunes tries to open but just hangs with the spinning wheel of death. When I force quit, my iMac crashes into a kernel panic.
No problems when using a USB cable. I am running 10.2.8, and have the newest versions of iTunes and iPod Updater. Previously, my firewire cable worked just fine.
Any ideas what may be going on?

    OK...easy fix:
Disconnect all cables, shut down, unplug power for a few minutes.
Re-connect, restart and everything seems fine now. Also ran Disk Repair from the Installer Disk to fix anything suspicious.

  • VGA cable pixel distortion with Acer Monitor

    Greetings:
    Here is my problem:
         1. With my home office configuration, my MacBook is needs a 10ft cable to reach my monitor.
         2. Because of this, I cannot use the Acer monitor cable provided from the manufacturer.
         3. I've had to buy two different VGA cables and neither of them work.
         4. Here is the problem: For some reason, when you close the MacBook and use the external monitor, the display gets stretched. This only happens when the laptop is fully closed. When it is open and utilizing both monitors, it is fine. Also, When the laptop is open, I have more pixel display options available on the Acer than when the laptop is closed.
I bought a high end VGA cable and I know it is able to carry the correct pixels because my HP works just fine on it at 1600 x 900.
Is it the cable? Or is there a glitch with the MacBook????? Is there a special cable I need to order???? Please help!
    Thanks,
    Jon

  • Connecting Ethernet cable causes shutdown

Our 17" iMac suddenly shutdown and refused to start up - makes the start sound but shuts down after a few seconds.
Managed to get it going by removing all cables and resetting SMU. Then connected to network thru Airport.
The moment I reinsert the Ethernet cable the Mac shuts down. Thought it might be a faulty cable, but does the same with another cable which works fine on another Mac. Problem only happens when the cable is connected to the router, indicating it is not a short in the Ethernet port.
I suspect the Ethernet card in the iMac. Any other suggestions?
Any tests I can run to identify the issue?

An iMac has a SMC and the steps for resetting the SMC are different from another Mac resetting the SMU. And apple has revised the process since the iMac Core Duos were introduced.
Are these the steps that you used?
    Reset the SMC
    • Shut down the computer.
    • Detach the computer's power cord.
    • Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    • Release the power button.
    • Reattach the computers power cable.
    • Turn on the computer.
Run the Hardware Test on the original Install DVDs that shipped with your iMac.

  • Fade causes distortion

I'm trying out Soundbooth and find that when I add a fade to a track, it creates a high pitched distortion.  The harder the fade, the worse the distortion.  At first I thought it was the Dell soundcard, but it does the same when I use an external audio interface.
For the internal card, I used the WDM driver, and for the external enterface I used the ASIO driver.
    Any ideas?

Can you be more specific as to what you're doing and what this sound is?  For example, are you just using the fade in/out controls on the waveform to create a fade?  Do you just hear this artifact in playback mode, or is it actually being written to the file and audible if you play the new file in a different application?  Is the sound only audible for the period of the fade, or does it affect the entire file?

  • Aluminium cable causes slow speed what's Open Reac...

    Hi
I have had Infinity for 12 months and have had speeds issues since day 1.
I now have dropped to 6MB down and have never exceeded .5MB up (not a typo 1/2 of 1 MB up)
The problem is due to Aluminium cable between my house and the FTC. BT wont replace the cable so I will never get the promised speed.
How can I get a stable service and what is the policy on these old cables as I am sure a copper connection will resolve the issues.
This weekend a BT engineer will visit my house and probably lift a few man holes and re-terminate the cables which will result in speeds of upto 15MB if I am lucky which will last for a few weeks or until heavy rain. At that point it will revert to 6MB.
    Any advise greatly received.
    Peter

Thanks to everyone for the helpful comments.
Quick update - Open Reach came on Saturday and confirmed the speed was 6MB and did a test that showed a sync speed of 10MB was obtainable.
They then left it at the original Sync speed of 6MB since they said it would just degrade again.
They have raised the cable as a fault but I get the impression that the only way to get the cable replaced is if someone steals the existing one. The post code for anyone wanting Aluminum is BH24 2LG.
Does not seem much point in Open Reach investing in high speed services if the old infrastructure destroys the benefits.
Probably going to switch to Sky broadband to see if a new line service will improve the speed since it will be a different pair of wires and maybe different equipment?
    Any thoughts please.....
6MB is a very good speed, it equals to a 60mb connection. The highest you can get on Infinity is 76mb.
