Dual 30" at max res

I have a MacPro (Mid 2010) with the graphics running on ATI HD 5770. I have 2 30" cinema displays which I want to run in dual monitor mode @ 2560x1600. But when I try to, the one connected to the mini display port (5770 has 1 DVI and 2 MDPs), runs at a lower resolution. What should I do to run both at 2560x1600 together?
I found this: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB571Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDA5OQ&mco=MTA4MzU1ODY
Will this solve the problem?
Or if I buy another 5770, can I connect the 2 Displays to the 1 DVI port on each and still run in Dual-monitor mode?

DisplayPort and its Mini variant use a different native protocol from DVI. A simple adapter can force the DisplayPort into "Dual-Mode", which produces a good approximation of Single Link DVI/HDMI.
Single Link DVI/HDMI is generally only good for up to 1920 wide. For wider, you need Dual Link, and a simple adapter will not suffice. You need an "active" "powered" converter, such as the US$100 Apple one referenced. There are also some third-party ones available for less, but be sure they specify "active" or "powered", and state that they support Dual Link and/or greater than 1920 width resolutions. If there is a USB on the computer end, it MUST be plugged in to provide additional power.

  • XServe dual quad core max power consumption

What can I expect to be the max power consumption of a dual quad-core XServe?
I have four new XServes that I administer in four separate locations and I need to know what Apple recommends for an Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) per server.
Right now, I have a 500VA one that I've had on hand at least one site. However, I've noticed that this one, eventhough the UPS has a new battery in it, does not support an XServe -- ie, when I test it, the XServe shuts down abruptly. My guess is that 500VA is inadequate.

What Apple might recommend and what might work in your environment, I do not know.
The APC SmartUPS 1500 works reasonably well for an Xserve and its usual accretion of giblets and accouterments, and Mac OS X Server automatically recognizes this device via its USB connection.
And one thing I've discovered that's not widely listed. Get yourself some short power cords. A handful of appropriately-rated power extension cords (of about one foot in length) makes most UPS products far easier to deal with. These cords are a few dollars each from various vendors, and very useful.

I'm just migrating from pc to mac and everything has gone great but ......
my other half wants to keep windows around as a comfort blanket and for the kids [school stuff]. Can I fit the hdd from my windows pc into an empty bay in my mac pro and set up the mac to boot from it or do I need to reformat the hdd and reinstall windows using boot camp ??
Or if anyone has a better idea I'd love to hear about it

You are better off doing a clean custom install. Your Mac Pro has different motherboard drivers which are going to need to be added and may pose problems.
If you do install Windows, I'd skip XP and use Windows 7 Pro 64-bit so you can use more RAM and dual processor.
Try it, what's to lose as long as backups, imaged, or clone your Windows hard drive.
Normally even if you can, Windows XP doesn't like being moved, even if you can and can reactivate.
Paragon does have a program to import a Windows OS hard drive into a new computer; or there are programs not good for games but will load native OS into a VM.

  • EliteBook 8470p Dual External Display Max Resolution

I am currently using a docked HP Elitebook with two external monitors at (1920x1200) with no issues.  I wanted upgrade to two 4k external monitors (3840x2160). Does anyone know if the Elitebook can handle this?

Either DVI or DisplayPort will drive that resolution, though you may need to use a dual-link DVI adapter.
DisplayPort is a newer technology and offers the same resolution support as DVI.

  • Dual screen, one normal res, one zoomed in

    Hey All,
I want to set up an additional screen and I want it to mirror what is on my main display BUT I want it to be zoomed in (similar to how things appear when u hold down ctrl and zoom in with the mouse. This way, I can tweak the more fiddly controls within Logic with ease.
Has anyone come across an app or a setting etc that might allow this to happen?
    Cheers,

Try *Universal Access* , it is in your *System Preferences* . Not sure how it behaves with dual screens, should work though.

  • MB5,1 MiniDP to VGA max res 640x480

    Hi
I am using a MiniDP->DVI to drive my 24" monitor, no problems running 1920x1080, however, when i need to run presentations on a projector, i have bought a mini-dp->vga, using the latest BC drivers, i cannot get it to run any higher resolution than 640x480. I have tried the nvidia beta drivers for the 9400M gpu, it would be nice to get some apple feedback on this issue, since it seems as if i'm not the only one having this issue.

How can I change MMS size limit?

    Hi check_engine,
Welcome to Nokia Support Discussions Forum!
As per checking with your concern, the maximum message size for MMS is 100kb and this is operator dependent. You can try to ask your network operator if they can do anything about adjusting the limit for your MMS.

  • Another Dual Layer Break Issue

    Encore CS5.1
After about 12 hours, I am no further forward... Having trawled through a number of posts on this and similar subjects I am really up against the buffers.
The requirement is simple - getting Abobe Encore CS5.1 to "see" my request to use a Chapter Marker it gives me as one of three in the Manual Option section during the build process.
I had no issues with DL authoring in CS4, but CS5 is giving me a lot of grief.
    The outline:
I have a timeline of 67 minutes with 6 Chapter Markers. The first two are within the first 10 minutes, CH3 at 36 minutes, CH4 at 38 minutes, CH5 at 41 minutes and CH6 at 61 minutes.
I am using Verbatum DL +R DVDs (I have used no other these last three years) with a write speed of x4 or x2.4.
Once I have built the NEW project, imported the video and placed the Chapters as above (all except CH3 at fade-to-black points) I select 8.54 GB dual layer, Side one, Manual and proceed.
At the invitation to select the manual point Encore offers me CH3, CH4 and CH5. No matter what I select, it places the break point at about 33 minutes (about half way) and in doing so screws up my own Chapters by placing it's own (invisible in the timeline) chapter thereby shuffling all mine. As a result I lose sections or get repeated sections.
I tried building to Folders and using ImgBurn. This confirms the insistance on using a halfway point - same too building to an Image the chapter and cell are never my selected, always a cell at about the halway point.
Adobe Encore is not recognising my selection (at its own invitation).
I have deleted the project and cache - rebooted and built the project from scratch importing the video - creating the timeline and adding the Chapters - always the same.
I have followed some of the points given using Folders in ImgBurn - it simply is not working for me. It's almost like Encore is screwing the build and the build is the same as though the settings are held in cache.
As mentioned, I have cleared all previous builds and their files and deleted the media cache with no joy.
I'm getting to the point whereby the only choice left to me is to split the project timeline and build the project as two separate DVDs (as the timeline is only just over the capacity for a single sided DVD (3 minutes).
As for PCG Edit - doesn't seem to want to run on my workstation (PC i7 24GB RAM - 3 separate drives in RAID combo and separate OS SSD).
Can someone help me find out what has happened to Encore as it does appear that after every "upgrade" somthing gets a little worse judging by my CS4 experience.
    Many Thanks

    Hi Stan,
    Many thanks...
    Yes, running "as admin"
Not quite with you "...too much material for a layer."
I often run to about 65 mins to just fit a single layer - perfect, but this project ran over - and I can't take anything out.
I am loath to change the sample rate as my SD quality (from a combo of AVCHD and MPEG2) Sony NX5 and Z5 really hit the spot for max res in SD (9.4 Mb/s). The Encoded spec for Encore is legal (or so it would seem) for Encore in a single layer (no issues or errored DVDs), and as I said in the OP I had no issues like this in CS4 (yes, apart from the known buggy stuff).
But why would Encore offer me a number of break points in placed chapters only to ignore them consistantly?
    Another point:
My first build went through and honoured the chapters, but put the layer change halfway - but didn't screw the build. There was a production reason I had to change the timeline content - one shot change of the same duration. I would certainly settle for that at this stage. Interestingly, I built to Image and did an IMGBurn (as I do do for all DLs). But as you say, IMGBurn is choking on what's been passed to it from Encore. I am trying to replicate that first build.
By the way, all my Chapters in the timeline preview perfectly in Encore - it's just when I ask for the build it all goes wrong (seemingly).
Many thanks again Stan. Appreciate your reply.

According to the copy&paste from wikipedia, HDMI should support higher resolution than 1920x1200. So the question is, does it aupport that on the mid 2011 mac mini. It says in the specifications
"Mac mini is designed to work with HDMI devices that comply with versions 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 1.2a, 1.3, 1.3a, and 1.4 of the HDMI specification."
That should mean it should be able to support it, but I don't know : <

  • IMac 21,5 2010 3,06GHz Second screen no max resolution

    Hi there,
I have an iMac 21,5 3,06Ghz 2010-model. And an LG Flatron w2261VP. I want to connect this LG to my iMac, but when i do it gives a max res. of 1600x1200. This is not the native res. for this screen, the native one is 1920x1080. But when i select the 1600x1200 the screen goes black and says "out of range". However, when i connect the LG screen to my MacBook Pro 13" 2010 the screen automatically uses the 1920x1080 resolution and works flawlessly.. The resolutions i can select on my imac for my LG are: 640x480, 800x600, 1012x768, 1152x870, 1280x768, 1280x960, 1280x1024, 1344x1008, 1400x1050 and 1600x1200
I'm currently using the 1400x1050, can't select the higher one; screen goes "out of range"
    I use a mini-displayport to VGA adapter.
My question is: Is it even possible to use a second screen with my iMac? Why does it work with my MacBook Pro and not with my iMac? Is it a bug? Do i need a DVI of HDMI? Anyone else suffering this problem?
Your help is very much appreciated!

Are both in Extended Desktop Mode?

  • Mac Mini refusing to support res greater than 1280x1024

    Hi,
I'm trying to set up a Mac Mini for my family, and have been having trouble getting both XP (via bootcamp) and Leopard to support my 24" monitor's native widescreen resolution of 1920x1200. When I go to the Display setup menu the max res it lets me select is 1280x1024. I've searched google for a solution but can't seem to find any... I've connected the monitor using a DVI cable, but using a VGA/D-SUB doesn't seem to make any difference.
In XP I've upgraded the graphics display drivers to no avail.
    Can anyone please help?
    TIA.

    Thanks for the reply.
It is indeed a brand new Mac Mini with Leopard running on it. The monitor's an old, discontinued LG L2320T. I can't really tell whether it's being detected properly or not (can't find a mention of the name/model anywhere except the profile name seems to have been set up correctly). I'm pretty sure the TFT's max/native refresh rate is 60Hz, and I've left it as such (had some issues when it was accidentally set to 75Hz). The monitor definitely does 1920x1200 in XP (we had it hooked up to a windows box before).
Sorry I don't really know much about Macs at all... Hopefully this'll shed some light?
    TIA

  • Max resolution for QT movies??

I have watched a few TV shows I have downloaded from itues via QT on both my windows machine and my ibook.
My Windows machine I use a 20" Apple Cinema Display and is powered by an ATI850XT vid card.
Since it is a 20" ACD the resolution is 1680x1050.
When I watch a QT show and try to go full screen, the video play back is very pixelated. It still looks a little pixelated when played back at small settings (double size).
However, when I play the same show back on my 12" ibook, at full screen it looks just fine.
Now my 12 ibook of course only has a max res of 1024x768 I believe.
So basically I want to know if QT can not play back at higer resolutions or is this purely a windows and QT issue?

I learned a little hidden secret.
I was watching my itunes tv shows on my ibook and it has an optino for "fit screen" which makes the QT player as large as possible while retaining the aspect ratio of the show.
On Apple OS, it is CTRL 3 to do this. Under Windows QT there is no CRTL 3 option listed.
However, if you do a CTRL3 the screen enlarges to the max size of you monitor while keeping the aspect ratio of the show (4:3 or 16:9) and looks great.

I have connected my iMac to a 37" LCD TV.
If I select mirror display the resolution on the iMac falls off considerably.
Can't I keep the res on the iMac as I want it and make the LCD TV take the hit?

In mirror, both screens will be set to the maximum lower res. As in to the highest res the lower res device can be set to... goodness that sounds complex.
Well, if your TV's max res is say 800x600, then both screen will be set to that.
It makes perfect sense, as you could actually damage a device by pushing it too high (I know, I broke a projector, by trying to see what would happen if...)
