Dual ADC Apple Studio Displays (clear acrylic) with Mac Mini

I currently have the old school Apple Studio Display ADC monitor hooked up to my Mac Mini using the ADC to DVI adapter. I have a second Studio ADC Display and another ADC to DVI adapter to run Dual Displays. I just bought a SEE 2 XTREME DVI to USB which is used for adding multiple monitors. I have it all hooked up. Its just basic plug and play after installing the Mac driver. My second monitor power light just flashes and wont turn on...Any suggestions? I already made sure both monitors and both ADC to DVI adapters worked, and they do. Please Help!! Any info would be greatly appreciated.

yea, I checked that out about the light flashes. I have tried both monitors seperately and they both work fine...just not with this DVI to USB dual monitor adapter. Also, when I had them hooked up individually, I made sure the resolution was set the same in the system preferences > displays.

Apple TV mirroring issues even with Mac mini, airport extreme bought at the end of last year, and an iPad 2

I have the same issue with ATV3 and iPhone 4S. Everything works properly, no buffering issues when watching netflix, vimeo, youtube BUT when I try mirroring even a small 15sec iPhone movie it stutters and buffers and results to a choppy playback..same with larger mp4 files such as 1-1.5GB, buffers forever and never plays, I just re-encoded the same movie to 700MB and plays perfectly..
Why Apple, why?..so close..I can accept the bigger movie files issue, but not being able to playback properly an iPhone movie is funny..I recorded a movie with lower bitrate through Filmic Pro (Economy mode, up to 16Mbps)
    and plays properly.
Is there an upcoming software update going to solve the problem or is it hardware related and therefore not fixable.
Please don't reply with a network related answer, by 2012 we know how to set up our networks and everything else runs flawlessly.
I'll apreciate a fast answer, we love Apple, but if it can't play an iphone movie (or a high quality movie from iTunes) it's just not up to my standards.
    Thanks again.

  • Can a Apple Studio Display be used with a none Mac PC under Windows

Hello, can a 21 Inch Apple Mac Studio Display Monitor (Graphite) be used with a none Mac PC under Windows. Thanks Peter

    what's a "none" Mac PC?
It can be done, but you'll need to purchase an ADC-DVI adapter in order to connect to the DVI port on the PCs video card.

  • Which Display To Use with mac mini?

Is it possible to use an iMac Desktop computer as a display for a mac mini?
Does anyone have the range of different monitors that can be used as a display for the mac mini?
Both answers are crucial to buying a mac mini.
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   600 MHz Power PC G 3 512 MB SDRAM

Not directly. You can of course connect to the mini using remote desktop (included with Mac OS - enable it on the Services tab of Security preference pane) and a free VNC client.
It is not fast and snappy like a directly attached monitor - so you will want to use it ocassionally to make remote changes - not day in and day out display.
Best to get a display that supports DVI input (or HDMI) and meets your budget. Here are the specs... (it will drive VGA as well - but it's no longer a digital signal and generally less nice)
DVI video output to support digital resolutions up to 1920 by 1200 pixels; supports 20-inch Apple Cinema Display and 23-inch Apple Cinema HD Display; supports coherent digital displays up to 154MHz; supports noncoherent digital displays up to 135MHz

  • CRT Display stopped working with Mac Mini

After over a year, my 7-year old ViewSonic CRT display went dark while working on my 1-year old Mac Mini (PowerPC). I replaced the DVI-VGA adapter and it worked perfectly---for a week---and then did the same thing: the screen went dark and the power light went red on the monitor. Both times this happened I hooked up an older generic monitor to see if my ViewSonic had died, and it put up a message stating that "both signals" were missing.
Why was the adapter only a temporary fix? Do older CRTs have the habit of frying these adapters or is it something else?
Mini Mac   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

The older monitors that did not come with vga plugs were sometimes computer specific Example. a compac monitor would not work with an ibm. You should get at least a monitor that has vga  plug. I had a gateway plugged into my mac mini. Some one will most likey say I'm wrong , but I did try the compac with an ibm. no screen. Older pc monitors with vga plug are pretty cheap right now,. Got mine from goodwill for $6.00

  • Apple 22" Display (Clear Acrylic Bezel)-LCD Replacement?

Did a real stupid thing and impaled my display on a Sharpie highlighter... don't ask.
Is there anyway to replace the LCD panel on these older displays? I sprung some coin for a new HP w2207h and am just not sure this is the right monitor for me. I had the Apple Display calibrated and working just beautifully. Now I have to go through the tweaking process all over again.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!!

That LCD panel has not been produced by LG for years and years. You would have to find a service or repair facility that had one as NOS (new old stock) which could take a lot of searching. Likely it would be easier to find someone selling the same monitor used than finding a replacement panel. And it would probably be cheaper, too.

  • DVI to ADC Adapter a 12" Powerbook and an Apple Studio Display 15"

    hello,
i am trying to hook up a 12" powerbook with a DVI to ADC adapter to an Apple Studio Display 15".
i´m just about to buy a used 15" display on ebay.
i was wondering if this is working out together. in the apple store there are two DVI to ADC adapters at different prices and displays supported?
so if anybody could help me out please let me know!!!!
    thank you very much
    regards, g.

    Hi
unfortunately I think the Apple store have sold you the wrong item.
I'm almost certain the DVI to ADC adapter only works with ADC based flat panel displays. DVI ports can output digital or analogue signals (or a combination of the two). The adapter seems to provide digital, which is why it works with the LCD displays, but not analogue, which is why it doesn't work with the CRT displays.
Confusingly Apple did a 17" Studio display both as a CRT and LCD.
Dr. Bott do a similar adapter but they explicitly state it's not compatible with the 17" CRT.
Unfortunately I'm not sure there's a solution, as the display has an ADC connector yet I'm not aware of any adapters available that will work.

  • My 11 year old Apple studio display died. what is best connection with new monitor

The lCD light finally quit after 12 years. So I bought a very cheap acer /led widescreenS200HQL 19 inch as a cheap quick replacement for my monitor on my  quicksilver G4 933. Question is it is connected to the second display port VGA... Is it worth buying a connector so it can be connected to the larger DVI port(where the apple studio display was connected?) will that make any difference??? Things seem fine but was curious as to the difference???

Many of the Studio displays were ADC. Are you sure that other port is really DVI and not ADC?
My 2004 MDD vid card has one DVI and one ADC connector. I have it connected to a Viewsonic display from about 2007 with both VGA and DVI ports. When I connect the DVI port directly to the DVI port on the G4, the native res looks good but it too small to read (old, tired eyes). If I change the desktop res to make things a little bigger, the image looks like carp--fuzzy and possibly some distortion.
If I use the DVI-to-VGA adapter on the computer and connect it to the monitor. the image is shape and proper at any support desktop res I select.
    You mileage may vary.

  • MacBookPro 3.1 display is negative mode, Apple Studio Display is positive

When I have the laptop hooked up to the Apple Studio Display 17", all of a sudden, the 'polarity' switched on the display. That is to say it displayed the opposite color mode from the laptop.
I can switch back and forth from positive(regular) to negative using the universal access preference control panel. How do I get the monitor and the laptop to agree?

Hi, the problem is a combination of Boot Camp 2.1 and the ADC->DVI box. I've described a solution here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7211956&#7211956
    Basically:
    [1] Plug everything in normally
[2] Boot into Mac OS X
[3] Set brightness to what you want (eg. in System Prefs, or via keyboard)
[4] Unplug the USB cable belonging to the ADC->DVI adaptor (this means anything plugged into the monitor now won't work, so you may need to also move peripherals from the monitor to the mac, or to a USB hub)
[5] Boot into Windows (XP SP2 or SP3 in my case)
[6] cue "I can see clearly now the rain has gone"
    The disadvantages to this are:
[1] You're a USB socket down on the deal (the display gave you 2 but took up 1, now you only have the 1 that it was being plugged into)
[2] To readjust brightness (if you find yourself doing this regularly... I don't) you need to go Mac OS X-> plug cable back in -> adjust brightness -> remove cable -> reboot into XP.
For me (2007 Mac Pro, 23" stripey Apple Cinema Display with ADC->DVI adaptor) it was happening under an ATI 1900XT and also under an Nvidia 8800GT, each time I'd tried reformatting the Windows partition, reinstalling Windows XP etc. Whenever it was Boot Camp 2.0.x it was fine, but adding Boot Camp 2.1 to the party wrecked the brightness. XP SP3 made no difference whatsoever.
Of note, if you'd rather not sacrifice the USB port (it didn't bother me, as 2.1 also made my 802.11n network finally usable under XP, which was more important to me than losing a USB socket), the original poster in the above linked article suggested reinstalling the Boot Camp 2.0 drivers (from the Leopard disc) as an alternative fix (seemingly they'll overwrite anything Boot Camp 2.1 installed, thus "rewinding"). As I say, for me I needed the wireless network so didn't want to go back, but it might work for you as a 2nd route.
I've filed a bug on this, so let's hope the Boot Camp team knock out a fix soon,
    Ken

  • How can i use dual 23" apple cinema hd display on a new mac mini

i have the old apple displays and really dont want to let go of them yet. Model # M8537ZM/A.
I currently have them both hooked up to my G5 powerPC, thru the DVI to ADC adapter. Model # M8661LL/B
Im tired of not being able to update my plug ins and some sites have become unable to even view without being up to date.
So im looking to buy a new Mac, but i will NOT spend another $2000+ for apple to call it outdated in a few years.
The Mac Mini looks to be a good buy only if i can it up to be on my DUAL 23" Apple Cinema Displays, Model # M8537ZM/A.
Please let me know what i would need to buy to make this all work, or if it not possable.
    Thanks in advance.

Wow, I loved those monitors. Ten years ago. If they're still working for you, terrific; they are quite nice. Unfortunately, the ADC cable is going to make using them with modern Macs a bit of a Rube Goldberg experience.
The late-2012 Mini has a Thunderbolt port and an HDMI port. Both can be used to drive those displays.
    Thunderbolt Port
1- Buy a Thunderbolt/Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB570Z/B/mini-displayport-to-dvi-adapter
2- Now buy a DVI to ADC adapter. Not cheap, and Apple doesn't carry them anymore, but they can be found.
    http://www.amazon.com/Apple-DVI-to-ADC-Adapter/dp/B0000E2O14
    HDMI Port
1- Buy an HDMI to DVI Adapter. One of these comes in the box with every Mini, so I won't link it.
2- Now buy a DVI to ADC adapter. Not cheap, and Apple doesn't carry them anymore, but they can be found.
    http://www.amazon.com/Apple-DVI-to-ADC-Adapter/dp/B0000E2O14
Note that each DVI to ADC adapter will need access to AC power to provide power to each monitor. You already know this if you have these adapters.
Just something to think about: There are some people still running old Macs with ADC output who are desperate to find good-condition, larger-size ADC monitors. You might be able to sell yours on eBay or through some other means for more than enough to finance your purchase of new, higher-resolution HDMI or DVI monitors and avoid all the adapters and extra electrical taps.

  • 15" Apple Studio Display Shutting Off

My Apple Studio Display (LCD 15", purchased 2000) visual display is intermittently shutting off. Audio remains functional, and I can still type while the display is absent and when it comes back what I typed (ie, on a word doc) is there. The screen saver does not come on during the loss of visual display - the screen just goes black. When I move the mouse around or hit the keyboard repeatedly, the visual will come back. There are not problems with the display when it is visualized. Here's what i've tried so far:
    1. All connections are secure on the ADC cable.
    2. Tried restarting computer several times - no avail
    3. Checked the display settings in system prefs - energy saver is @ 15min.
I'm wondering if the problem is the monitor or something with the computer. I read somewhere in discussions that PRAM batteries can be a problem (mine has never been changed and I don't know how to reset).
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I really hope to continue to use my monitor!!
    Mark

Do you hear a zapping sound when it happens? It could be high voltage arcing. Blowing out dust might help.

  • Apple Studio Display power

    Hi--
Just hooked up a new Mac Mini with an old (G3 era) Apple Studio Display. It works fine, but I know there must be a power adapter that will let me plug the monitor directly into a wall outlet without having to keep it plugged into the old G3--I just can't find one. Is there such a cord, and if so, where? If not, please tell me that my only option is NOT to keep this huge G3 sitting around forever.
    Thanks!

I think you need the Apple DVI to ADC Adapter:
