Dual airplay devices in same room

I have Apple TV in my living room - used solely fo that purpose. I also have a Sonos stereo system in the same room and have just set up another router - an Airplay Express to utilize iTunes Match with Sonos and there are problems running both at the same time. What is the setting/s I am not familiar with to avoid one Airplay device overriding the other?

It is very impressively all over the place..
The highest signal strength device has the very worst speed.
-45           1 MBs
The comparatively badly off worst device.. has not too bad a speed.
-79           65
So if nothing else you can say consistency is typical wireless voodoo.. this is why it is a non-science .. more akin to black arts.
Reset the AE to factory.
Give it all short names.. no spaces and pure alphanumeric. Use different names for 2.4ghz and 5ghz.. simple names.. eg AE24ghz and AE5ghz
Test with no security. Test fixed channels.. 11, 8, 6, 1 for 2.4ghz and 40 and >149 for 5ghz.
Tell us what you get.
Does the Lenovo use Intel wireless card.. ??... heaven help you if it does.
Download about the last 6 lots of drivers .. and work through them from the most recent backwards.. they are known wretched.

  • "An error occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device "Living Room Apple TV". An unknown error occurred (406)."

This error message keeps popping up overtime I try to play an iTunes bought tv show from my mac book pro to my apple tv "An error occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device “Living Room Apple TV”. An unknown error occurred (406)."
Does anyone know what this means and how to fix it. Both devices are registered on the same apple id and password. This problem just started happening within the last week or so but prior to that everything was working as it should have. In fact since the launch of icloud things have been glitchy for me with purchasing and playing off the apple tv as well.
    Can someone please help?'
    Thanks

Unfortunately Apple's error codes are very much a mystery (at least to me), try restarting the Apple TV, iPad and router. If that doesn't help look into whether you might be encountering interference on your network.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
    Restart your router.
    Restart your computer.

  • If i have a home full of Apple TV's and Airport Express' can i  airplay music in every room at the same time?

If i have a home full of Apple TV's and Airport Express' can i  airplay music in every room at the same time?
Or just one device(room) at a time?
It seems there is a lot of home theater systems where they all hook up to one "control" and then disperse to the different locations per instructions..
Is this possible with all apple products?

From iTunes using Multiple Speakers (you can control with the Remote app on iPhone/iPad too), but not from AppleTV itself.

  • WiFi (WLAN) problem - in the same room a iOS 5 device connects, iOS 6 not

    Hi all,
I won't say that it's a proof for the iOS 6 WiFi/WLAN problem. BUT, it's evident that my iPhone 4 with iOS 5 sees all WLAN-networks and connects - my new iPad with iOS 6 doesn't! And I'm using the two devices in the same room. In addition my new iPad didn't have connection problems before updating to iOS 6.
Apple Software Engineers - please help and release the next update to fix it
    Best regards

Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

  • HT204291 Air Play was working now it is not gives me the An error occurred (-6722) while connecting to the AirPlay device "Family Room Apple TV"

Apple TV is working and set up. All I have done is take a vacation and one time I did hook up Macbook to a HDTV. Now I get home and this is the error I get.
An error occurred (-6722) while connecting to the AirPlay device “Family Room Apple TV”

Router is OK, I did check my security settings and I did turn on the firewall, while overseas, I turned it off and it works.

  • Two airplay devices at the same time

    Hello,
I've tried to mirror my mac via airplay to my apple tv and seperatly airplay the sound to my Harman&Kardon "Aura" but every time I try to change the sound output while mirroring it just disconnects from my apple tv and connects to the sound system. Is there a possibility to connect my mac to apple tv and the sound system via airplay at the same time?

Thanks. After restoring the AE I've gotten it "sort-of" working couple of times but it's taking a lot of time from the itunes to connect to an airport express now. Mostly it works after a long wait but not always. Certainly it's taking longer than before, and one of the AE's is dropping now constantly from the list and needs to be rebooted every now and then.

  • Since updating to Yosemite my airport express (used for airplay) connects for a short period then drops, the error message "An error occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device "Kitchen". The host cannot be reached."  Has anyone else had this?

Since updating to Yosemite my airport express (used for airplay) connects for a short period then drops, the error message "An error occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device “Kitchen”. The host cannot be reached."  Has anyone else had this problem

I'm having the same issue.  Haven't found a workaround.  I use a main TimeCapsule as my main router, also have another TimeCapsule that extends the network, three Airport Express and an AppleTV.  For whatever reason, the two AirportExpress that I have in a different rooms cut out.  I only have 600 square foot apartment so it's not that big, the signal should be strong enough.  Airport Utilitiy reports the signal strength to be strong on all devices.
I'm using all new equipment, a new MacPro for my music, new TimeCapsules, new Airport Express, new everything with the latest Yosemite software.  Very frustrating.  My Airplay used to work very nice and now I'm constantly having issues and restarting my network.  I did a fresh install of all my software on my MacPro when I got it in January so it's not as if it's an old machine with old software, everything is new within the last 6 months.
The only workaround I found so far is to unplug the devices and to plug them back in.  Since upgrading to Yosemite, I'm restarting my Airport Express at least twice a week.  Very annoying.

  • IOS 8 and no airplay devices

I have been having issue after the OS 8.0.2 update with Airplay devices populating on Airplay options screen.
I am on an iPhone 5S.
    My devices are
    Airport Express latest code
    Airport Express Latest code
    Airport Express Latest code
    Denon Receiver - Latest firmware
    Apple TV version 1.2
    Apple TV Version 1.3
This occurs intermittently and usually only one or two devices show up.  Often a restart of the phone or whichever device I am using (iPad Mini Retina or my Wife's iPhone 5S) will then show the various devices, although they never all appear at once, they populate one a time over a few minutes post reboot of phone.
This is a major issue as I have configured both the conference rooms at our Ad Agency for Airplay usage and the home automation system at my house in the same way.
I do hope an update will be out soon to resolve this issue.  Mdns /Bonjour DNS type issues maybe?
Please help Apple.  Excalate this issue.  I have seen it in various forums and threads, but publicly it has not been recognized on behalf of Apple.  Admit there is an issue and we will wait for a fix.
    Thanks
    MLE

I should mention that in 8.1 this issue has not been as much of an issue.

  • ITunes Match doesn't work at times-  in the same room (on Wifi) I will add a song to my playlist on the iMac- instantly it appears on my iPad but not on my iPhone 6plus

ITunes Match is extremely unpredictable-  in the same room of my house on the same WiFi- all my devices are up to date (software wise). I will add a song on my iMac 27". To a playlist I created-  Instantly the song shows in the playlist on my IPad Air2. But it does NOT show in my playlist on my iPhone 6plus-  I reboot everything- even do a hard-wired sync- it just won't appear-  sometimes- frustrated with the time I am wasting I just email (from my iMac) the song to myself so that I can play it on my iPhone 6Plus-   I create a lot of music on my iMac using Logic Pro- and there are times I want to have the process (songs in the marking) available on my iPhone so I can play them while driving, etc.,  extremely frustrating as this issue is very new -  had no problems for months and months but now I do- I rebooted everything (phone, etc.,) created a new play list-and then it appeared on the iPhone in the new playlist-  BUT if I want to add a song to the new playlist- same situation- never appears on the iPhone but does appear on my iPad IMac and MacBook Pro-  ITunes Match is turned on- I am on the same WiFi FAST network at my house-  Any ideas ?

Hi Rob- I'm guessing it has something to do with all the update stuff Apple keeps doing (with Yosemite, etc.,) extremely frustrating - also whenever I load up iTunes on any of my devices- I am asked to enter my passcode- which I will do- then I am asked to do it 2 or 3 more times - right after the other- crazy how annoying something like that can be- I have looked online for solutions- i.e. close out of the account, reset the passcode- all of it- nothing seems to fix that situation either-  what I have discovered (playing around) is on my iPhone 6+ if I go to settings and turn OFF iTunes match- then turn it back ON- suddenly all the music that wasn't loaded shows up magically- but I had to do that each time I'd update songs in my playlist on the iMac- then go to the iPhone and turn off the match- then turn it back on- almost like it is resetting things-

  • Can you limit the list of AirPlay devices seen on the iPad if multiple devices exist?

We are setting up a school to use iPads, Apple Tvs and Projectors in classrooms.
    - Teachers are using iPads in classrooms and we are setting up wireless projection using AirPlay.
    - Each classroom has an Airport Express with a unique WiFi name.
    - Each classroom has a projector with an Apple TV mounted on it and each Apple TV has a unique AirPlay name.
    - An iPad and the AppleTV are the only two devices on each classroom’s wifi.
    - When a teacher wants to mirror iPad to the projector, we thought they would just see their own AppleTv (projector) but, I think because the underlying school network is the same in each classroom, the teacher sees every device in the school.
Question:  If you have multiple AirPlay devices on the same network, can you limit the list that one sees on an iPad?
And/or: Is there a way to set up the wifi differently so the teacher is not presented with a huge list of devices?

I wish teachers like you would leave technology you don't understand alone. The fact you were allowed to plug-in "consumer grade" access points into a enterprise network says a lot about your lack of knowledge; next you want to turn all of these low end access points into routers!? Your going configure a unique SSID on every AP setup each device to only connect to that network? Do you have any consent of wireless networks? Management?
It's teachers like you that bring down a network. Then you insult the very IT staff that work in a very thankless position in which most of their interaction occurs when something doesn't work.

  • An error occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device "Apple TV". An unknown error occurred (-15000).

    Hi ,
I acquired an Apple TV (Gen3) a couple of days ago.
The Apple TV seems to be connected properly to WIFI (Good signal)
I watched streaming videos on Youtube and film trailers – the speed is ok.
I followed the protocol but, still, I cannot connect Itunes to the Apple tv.
    These are the error messages:
On the TV : apple tv could not connect to library
In Itunes: An error occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device “Apple TV”. An unknown error occurred (-15000).
Please note that Apple TV doesn’t appear in the list of devices in Itune’s preferences menu.
The Home Share is enabled on both devices and I connected with the Same Apple ID on each device.
    Airplay is on.
    Ref Apple TV :
    Apple tv: Model MD199HC/A
    Serial number DY******RHN
    apple tv software : 5.3(6105)
    Imac: OS X version 10.8.4
    I already tried to :
    Unplug/plug modem and router
    Test connectivity
    Disable the Firewall
Re-enable the firewall with Itunes in the list of ‘allowed’ devices
Re-set Apple TV (3 times) + Up to date
Re-start Apple TV and computer several time
    Itunes is up to date
    Could you please help?
    Many Thanks

    Hi all,
    Thanks for your comments.
In my knowledge, there isn't any security software active on my computer.
After re-setting my routeur several times, I finally swapped it against an Airport Time Capsule.
It solved the problem, however, I would be interested to know if a (less expensive) solution exists.

  • The AirPlay device is not compatible with this version of iTunes.

I can no longer connect one of my Air Port devices. I continually get the same error message.
"The AirPlay device “Bedroom” is not compatible with this version of iTunes."
Bedroom is the name I gave the device. I just updated my Itunes, and it shows "bedroom" as a multi speaker option, but wont connect. I'm not tech savy at all, just frustrated. Please help.
    Brian.

Restarted everything twice. Now it works. Don't know how or why, but at least it's on now.

  • I keep getting this message An unknown error (-15006) occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device " AirPort Express".

Please help. I have been having major difficulties with my Airport Express. It used to work fine but for the last year or so it continually disconnects, skips and ultimately drops out and itunes gives me this message "An unknown error (-15006) occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device “AirPort Express”. I keep resetting, unplugging, restarting Itunes, or my computer. It works for a couple of hours and then I get the message again. It's making me nuts and was a bummer at last week's party when we had no music, yet again. I have looked up the support discussions, but there is no answer as to how I can fix it. I am currently using Mt Lion OS. Does this have anything to do with it? Checked for software updates, but nada.
    Any suggestions.

It may be possible the where you have the AX located may just be in a spot where it does not get a good signal even it is only 8 feet away.
I suggest that you download and install iStumbler. You will use it to determine the signal quality by making Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) measurements. This will be easiest if your Mac is a laptop ... or you can borrow one. When taking the measurements, you only want your "main" AirPort running as this is what we want to measure at the location of the AX.
SNR (in dB) = Signal (in dBm) - Noise (in dBm)
You can easily find the Signal and Noise value using System Profiler on your Mac laptop.
ref: Click on the Apple icon on the menu bar > About This Mac > More Info... > Contents > Network > AirPort > Interfaces > en1 > Current Network Information > Find your wireless network > Signal / Noise
While your still in the System Profiler, note the value for Transmit Rate.
These values should be negative numbers. For example, mine currently read: -67 dBm / -95 dBm, with a transmit rate of 27 (Mbps). Plugging in these numbers yield: SNR = -67 - (-95) = 28. My Mac Mini is about four rooms away from my AEBS with about five walls between them. As you can see, the signal is still quite useable ... but the bandwidth is minimal, especially for streaming.
    SNR Guideline
    40dB+ SNR = Excellent signal
25dB to 40dB SNR = Very good signal
    15dB to 25dB SNR = Low signal
10dB to 15dB SNR = Very low signal
    5dB to 10dB SNR = No signal
    Please post back your results.
