Dual Bios

Hi,
I got a G4MX460VTP and since it's a Dual Bios VGA Card,I'd like to know if something went wrong while updating the Bios, how to boot with the other bios.I know where's the jumper, but I just want to know all the steps to boot with it.Also is this other bios the one that came with my card, since I already updated once.
I need to change the bios because once I updated through LiveBios my Winproducer/Wincoder software keeps crashing all the time.I don't know what happened.
The only way to update the bios through LiveBios was disabling or uninstalling the Capture Drivers,if not LiveUpdate doesn't work at all.I don't know how to flash the VGA Bios with a floppy and I don't know anything about DOS.Got WinXP Home Edition and NTFS File System. If anyone could help I would Appreciated.(please excuse my English)
I got the file for the Bios, and since I updated the Bios with LiveBios,it creates a folder named"setupfiles"in program file which contains the flash bios, the one that you do with LiveBios. So I'm going to replace the bios file with other I don't know if that's correct, but I'm going to give it a try. That's what I need to know about the jumper.
Thanks
Victor

hi bubble123,
Welcome to the Forums.
From the information below, it doesn't indicate that the G580 uses a dual BIOS configuration (this means that the machine uses a single BIOS chip).

  • Dual BIOS Problems

    Hi to everyone,
i'm writing from Italy, and i would like to thank you for the dual bios guide. I updated the version bios to the latest number (V23.3). The strange thing was that the first bios didn't load without a real reason. I clicked on the power on button and when W7 Ultimate 64bit SP1 started up, on desktop, came a MSI advise that the first bios didn't load. Very strange, i made more than an hour of MEMTEST and all gone OK.
    No overclock, all @default.
    My configuration is this:
    MSI Z68A GD65 GEN3
    I2600k@default right now
    Crucial m4 128 GB
Gigabyte GTX 560 TI OC 1GB
    Enermax Liberty 500W
    Thanks for your replies.

In the UEFI/BIOS Security Menu, set the 'Auto Dual BIOS Update' to 'Enabled'. The secondary will update the primary for you. Also, it is not verified, but in this setting, both primary & secondary may be updated to a new version that is flashed.
Another tip, the forum USB flasher has proven itself to be safe time & time again. Used it for three years now from the socket 775 to the new 2011 with success. The flasher & instructions can be found here; https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=108079.0

  • Msi h67ma-e55 (b3): continuous reboots, no video out, dual bios problem?

    hi,
I'm here with a new problem.
I got this motherboard h67ma-e55 (b3) "reconditioned" by the seller.
I tried it with a celeron g550 & DDR3 module in 1600 and later in 1333, no hdd and no dvd.
coolermaster silent pro 550W power supply (80plus bronze)
the motherboard to boot has black screen after a few seconds, restart it, and it continues like this forever.
tried to remove battery, clear CMOS, and change all the slots of ram, but always the same problem ... no successful boot
according to the manual, this motherboard would have a dual boot:
    Quote
    Dual BIOS LED
The Dual BIOS LED indicates the BIOS status during system power on. Follow the
    instructions below to read.
    Off: Normal.
Blink (1 cycle/second): The primary BIOS failed.
Solid: Both primary and secondary BIOS failed.
alternately blink at boot are different, so I think that the motherboard before trying to start with a bios, but fails to do this .. then with the other bios, but can not even ... and this all the time!
What can I do for it?
    a super hard reset?
there is a procedure to flash the bios in this situation from pendrive?

thank you for your reply, svet!
I did everything out of the case, open air, even removed the battery, with single ram on different slot every time I try start it, without vga....but nothing changes!!
I believe that if I can not force bios setup, I can not start the system properly ..
The card come back by RMA (it's written on the box), sold by super ebay power seller.
the seller (very helpful, he said he takes the card back) said he has not tested the card, but I'm surprised that MSI service center did not fix it with the new double Bios.

  • Dual BIOS on FX5900XT???

Can someone confirm there is a Dual BIOS facility on the MSI FX5900XT?
I cannot see anything on the documentation on the MSI website and do not have the full manaul with me.
Yes you guessed it! Failed flash update and looking to restore the backup. Here's hoping!
    Thanks

If there is no jumper or shunt on the card or the VIVO Dongle (if present) does not have a safe switch, then you guessed it, no there is no facility.

  • Flashing of MSI Z87-GD65 GAMING failed and dual bios not helping, not sure why?

    Hi all
For the first time in 20 years Ive had a firmware flash fail it seems.
I have a MSI Z87-GD65 GAMING and updated the bios with the latest firmware via the "M-FLASH" utility within the systems bios.
All seemed to have gone well, it flashed to 100% rebooted and then just a blank screen and a sequence of keyboard light flashes.
After a minutes panic I thought not to worry, the motherboard has a dual bios.   So I powered down and switched the bios switch to bios B hoping it would assist and the problem is identical.
    Any tips anyone?

I just tried this along with removing power from the main board and it seems one of the two did it!   thanks

  • X79A-GD65 (8D) dual bios flashing problem. One works, the other is bricked.

    Hi guys,
First post but not excatly the right scenario I wanted to post under.
This all started when MSI updater decided out of no where to download and auto run the bios updater. Before I had a chance to close it, it had started the update process before I could close a number of program's that I was running. Obviously my windows decided to freeze on me. I had no choice but to reboot. On the restart my PC was stuck on a F2/F6 (could be F9) loop. So I switched to BIOS B and all was good in the world.
My attempts to recover BIOS A have been unsuccessful. I tried clearing the CMOS first, this caused the pc to reboot every ten seconds in instead of the auto recovery. I have yet to reach post yet. So I tried the forum flash method flipping the switch after the tool had loaded up back to A. No luck on 1.7 Or 1.7 beta 181. Done a mem test which ruled out the RAM as well. Not sure what to try next.
As stated before everything works fine on B, A must be super bricked or something. Either that or the forum flash method failed or I'm just doing it wrong.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

Makes it risky for any future updating of the good chip without a second one to have as a safety net.
RMA is always an option. Should be no problem getting it covered under warranty.
I'm contemplating an RMA but i honestly feel it is more hassle then it's worth while it's working fine on B. I just won't bother updating the BIOS unless they release something which seriously effect's/help's me. This is the first motherboard i have had with a dual BIOS so i'm usually quite safe when it come's to updating things like this. Just my fault for a moment of stupidity.

  • Dual bios light flashing with beep code

hey i have a question, i just built a tower system using MSI P67a-GD5 mobo and Patriot viper extreem DDR3 8 gig's, and i use a 2600k SB processor cooled by a mega helm rev b cpu cooler and i use a 560ti msi twin frozr2 envidea card, and i power everything with a raidmax 80plus certified rx-850ae psu. once i built this i tried to overclock to 5.0MHz. i was able to do this and maintain stability but once i tried to tone down the power and the multiplier to 4.8MHz and reboot the sys, a message popped up saying that cpu or memory changed and then asked me to reset bios or use default bios settings so i choose to go with default, and now i get one short beep fallowed by a set of two short beeps and then one slightly longer and higher tone beep, and i also now have my dual bios LED flashing one flash per second. my computer still boots to windows as if there is nothing wrong. what does this mean and how can i fix this issue of the dual bios light flashing. i already tried to clear the bios/cmos using the bios short out pins but this didnt work and it continues to flash! please help with some sort of input cause im currently in the u.s. army and deployed to afghanistan and i use this computer on a every day basis for work and i cant afford to send it off or have it break!

  • Dual BIOS LED disco, P67A-GD80 (B3)

I've just set up a new system, exercising extreme caution, reading manuals, checking forums, and taking all measures not to mess things up.
When I finally buckled up and hit the start button, things seemed fine, the fans were running and I was greeted by the BIOS setup interface. A couple of minutes after browsing the menues, checking temperature and stuff, but without actually making any changes, screen froze and the system ceased to respond to mouse or keyboard input, even ignoring my desperate efforts to restart or turn off the machine using the front panel buttons.
After turning off, using the PSU-switch, I found that at least it did NOT smell burnt, so I gave it another try. This time the fans started again and the GPU-fan sounded considerably louder than before, actually noisier than the average vacuum cleaner, but nothing showed up on screen at all. Just darkness and the terrible howling from the GPU. Again, the front panel switches wouldn't kill it, so I started to think about what could have gone wrong. After thinking for a minute or two the system just died by itself.
I couldn't restart it immediately, but after a few minutes I could turn it on. Still nothing on the screen though.
I've reassembled the machine, checking cables and stuff, trying different RAM setups, cleared CMOS, removed and reinserted CMOS battery, but still just get one beep and eternal darkness on the screen. The motherboard buttons for on/off and reset won't turn off/restart the system. I notice two solid lights on the CPU Phase LEDs, telling me that "CPU is in 2 phase power mood", but I really don't know what that means.
Also, the Dual BIOS LED goes disco on startup, altering between fast blinking and slow (1 sec) blinking to finally end up with a solid light, telling me the primary and secondary BIOS failed.
Have also tried to start the motherboard with everything disconnected except PSU and a RAM-card, even without GPU, just to see if the moderboard's on/off and reset buttons responds after being turned on, but everything except the fans and leds seem dead.
Anyone got any idea of what's causing these problems, or what I should do to get wiser or even make things work?
Is the CPU just dead? Motherboard short circuit? Some kind of BIOS-black out?
Is the non-responsive (well, it responds to on, but not off) on/off and reset buttons on the motherboard a sign of something?
This is my brand new, not-working-at-all system:
    Corsair Graphite 600T Midi Tower
    Corsair TX V2 850W PSU
    MSI P67A-GD80 B3, Socket-1155
    Intel® Core™ i7-2600K
    Antec Kuhler H2O 920
    Kingston DDR3 HyperX 1600MHz 16GB
    Sapphire Radeon HD 6970 2GB GDDR5 (x2, have tried with just 1)
    Corsair SSD Force Series™ 3, 240GB
    Sony Optiarc DVD±RW Writer, AD-5280S

Yeah, I tried that, but I'm not 100% sure I properly cleared CMOS. Did change the pin from save to clear data and removed battery, but the battery might have been removed too short time (20 sec). Also, the power cable to the mother board was still connected (the PSU was shitched off though) which I later read it shouldn't be while clearing CMOS.
Still, the Dual BIOS LED goes solid, so I guess the mother board is bricked.
I'm really not sure what to do now. Let's say I buy a new mother board and it works outside the chassi, it could mean that the old mother board was defect from start, or
it can mean that the chassi is defect. To be sure I have to try the new mother board in the chassi, and possibly destroy it. Feels like this trial and error method is going to cost me a few mother boards.
I do hear the single beep when I start the computer, so it POSTs I guess. Does that mean the CPU is NOT broken? I've heard that the CPU is needed for the POST.

  • Z77A-GD65 - Dual BIOS Issue

Hey guys, I believe there is an issue with the Dual BIOS feature on my board.
During some OC tests and changes, I experienced the following with my board:
    1. I applied OC settings which caused the PC not to boot.
    2. I switched to the second BIOS and the PC didn't boot - At this point, I should have been able to boot the PC with the second BIOS but nothing happened.
    3. I cleared the CMOS by removing the battery, the PC booted fine.
    4. I went into one BIOS, reapplied my old OC settings and the PC booted up fine again.
    5. I switched to the second BIOS again to see if it was on default, to my surprise, it had the exact same settings as the second BIOS.
    6. So today I tested again, I switched to the secondary BIOS and loaded optimized defaults on it, guess what? The PC didn't boot at ALL! On defaults!
    7. Switched to the second BIOS, and again, no boot.
    8. Removed the Battery again, both BIOSes reset to default.
    9. Reapplied my old OC settings again on one BIOS, PC booted up.
    10. Switched back to the secondary BIOS = SAME SETTINGS!
At this point, I have no backup BIOS, any change I set changes it for both of them, when I move the switch all settings are completely identical.
Either I killed one of the BIOS chips and they both act as one or my board is defective and it is not switching between them.
    How's this possible?!

What ever solution you choose to cure the problem you should also notify the manufacturer so they can redesign the back plate, include spacers or whatever is needed in the future. Possibly they can offer a fix for you. I'm pretty sure they would be more than willing to make a happy customer out of you.
I would use some nylon washers of some kind from a hobby shop or hardware store if it was mine provided there was enough space between the back of the MB and the case for it. Otherwise as you say trimming the back plate would be the only other way to do it.

  • Z68-GD65 B3 dual bios led

Hello, so i got the Z68-GD65 a while ago, and as far as i can remember the dual bios led has always been flashing which is really annoying.
Since im a still "newbie" in computers i looked it up in the manual and i decided to upgrade to the newest bios.
Of course the led is still blinking even after the update
I checked everywhere in the BIOS where i can turn the led off, but no luck.
How can i fix this problem?
(Don't just tell me to return it to the store, i've got it for a while and just like any person who gets hyped when getting a new system, at the start i missed out on if it was blinking or not)

Please follow the procedure in the attached file.

  • Dual BIOS Control LED

If the LED blinks every 1 second, it is everything okay? I read the motherboard manual that is led from the BIOS, I saw that in some cases where the LED light does not blink, she was always constant blue light
    still blinks every second

Quote from: kuziu on 24-January-11, 07:21:43
that is, the council can not fix it so as not to blink? in my case, what does it mean that blinks every 1 second?
    The primary BIOS is failed.
Quote from: Svet on 24-January-11, 05:46:21
    From your manual:
    Off: Normal.
Blink (1 cycle/second): The primary BIOS is failed.
Fast Blink (10 cycles/second): The second BIOS is failed.
Solid: Both of primary and second BIOS are failed.

  • Dual BIOS switch between? Z77A GD65

    Greetings.
Have a MSI Z77A GD65A mobo, which should have 2 different BIOS chips. There is a small switch on the mobo where you can switch between them when the PC is turned off.
It does not seem to do anything though. I just flashed ver 10.8 in BIOS A, where I think I did as described in the expectation that the BIOS B would remain as it was.
    Used this setting:
The Flash as such went fine, except that BOTH BIOSes now was 10.8. Whether the little switch is the BIOS A or B BIOS, then when it starts up it is in ver 10.8.
In  the printed manual, there should be a section under "Security" where you can turn on "Multi BIOS Update" on and off. It's just not there since ver 10.5 AFAIR.
Instead, there is an option with the same name at the top of the displayed image, but if you use it asks for a USBkey with a BIOSfil on right away, nothing to turn on or off more!
Someone who can guide me on how I switch between these 2 different BIOS, and how I can just flash ONE  bios at a time?

    HEUREKA
Tried a last time to switch BIOS but no luck. Then I wanted to try out "the Forum Flash Tool" and flash the BIOS you attached. I can now see, that the Forum Flash Tool does a LOT more than Mflash, it takes about 5 times as long to flash with this than Mflash.
After the flash was succesfull, I again tried to switch BIOS. WHAUU It worked!! For the first time!!! It was now booting to BIOS ver 10.0!!!!! Then I flashed this to ver 10.7, power down, switched BIOS, and flashed the other BIOS to ver 10.8.
Forum Flash Tool did the trick. Now I can have 2 different BIOS and 2 different CMOS-setup. My guess is, that Mflash puts the softwareswitch out of function. Why don't MSI tell this on their webside? Why does MSI not make Mflash work properly, or remove it completely! I will NEVER again flash my MSI board without making sure, that I have the latest Forum Flash Tool, and then use this.
A big Thank You to the creator of Forum Flash Tool. I hope MSI is paying you a nice salery for this fine job.
Thank you very much for all your help, xmad.
