Dual Boot on Satellite A205-S6808

I tried dual boot on my Satellite A205-S6808. I have installed W7 and I want boot also with XP Pro.The Lap Top does not accept XP Pro.What can be done????
Many thanks in advance.
Lucanio Ramucci

I presume you must load SATA driver before WXP installation starts. Without SATA driver the HDD will not be visible for WXP.
According the notebook specification your notebook has Intel GM965 + Intel ICH8M chipset.
You can try to download this storage manager from http://support1.toshiba-tro.de/tedd-files2/0/stormng-20070827133046.zip
Files from F6flpy > Ich8M_32-bit folder extract to FLOPPY Disc.
When WXP setup starts press F6 and follow the menu on the screen. When necessary load the files using S button.
I hope this will work.
If you don't have floppy disc to load it you can try to create own WXP installations disc using nLite software.
I hope THIS guideline can help you to do this.
I really hope you will have success with dual boot installation.
At the end I must confirm what Jeka wrote. If possible install WXP at first. When you install it as second OS you will not be able to choose between both installed operating systems. Only using BOOT manager you will be able to choose which OS should start. when you install newer OS as second one you will have small menu shown at start-up where you can choose which OS should be loaded.

  • Dual boot on Satellite A200 with Vista-XP?

    Computer details: *Satellite A200-PSAE6E...*
The laptop came with Vista...I managed to install Windows XP (with new drivers etc...) and it' s working just fine *BUT* after reboot, even Acronis OSS doesn't recognize Vista anymore, and the computer boots directly to Win XP only. (I need both OS...)
I'm searching many hours now instructions for *dual boot*, but everyone takes for granted that I have an Installation DVD for Vista... I don't!!!
Toshiba came only with the Product Recovery CD, so all the instructions about MBR and the solutions that even Microsoft gives me (E:\boot\bootsect.exe /nt60 All........) it's useless!
    Is there anybody out there???
Please....if you can give me any hint at all it would be.... just a miracle...thanx

    Hi,
This isn't direct with your problem - but I was wondering if you would be able to help me? As like you I have just brought the same laptop, and there was no installation disk just the restore disk?! I am trying to open some applications in PowerPoint but it keeps asking for the product key, although I have put this in as it is on the base of the laptop, it is still stating it is wrong?!
Have you had any problems with PowerPoint?

  • Windows XP - Dual Boot for Satellite U300-134

Hi. I have read the other replies to this problem of adding Windows XP (as a dual boot) but it still won't work. My laptop (I bought a few days ago) comes with Vista, and I bought Windows XP Home Edition - OEM. I got the intel matrix storage manager onto a USB floppy drive, but now it gives a message that "The file txtsetup.oem could not be found". I have to have XP because it turns out my work VPN will not run under Vista (I found that out AFTER I bought the computer unfortunately).
Can you please tell me what I need to do next to get this working? And any other surprises I might come across? I have looked round the internet but can't find the answers to this. I tried nlite but haven't managed to get that working yet either.
    Thank you.
    Ian

    Hi
There are different reasons why you cannot install the Win XO on the U300.
First of all do you use the right Intel Matrix Storage manager?
You notebook seems to support the Intel GM965 + Intel ICH8M chipset!!!
    Please check this thread!
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=26040
User Markus77 has listed the details!
Furthermore please dont format the HDD or create any partitions AFTER installation of the Intel Matrix Storage manager. This would delete the already installed driver.

The laptop does not load any type of internet capability.
Please help and please advice. I cant go out and buy a new laptop for the drivers I for camera and telescope are not made for W7
    Thanks
    Bruce

Try please to set BIOS to default settings and try to start recovery installation again. This PXE message occurs when notebook cannot find any bootable device and as last one try to use LAN card.
After changing BIOS to default settings check please if HDD is listed properly in BIOS on the first page.
    > I'm trying to use the disk that came with the laptop but when I read the instructions it tell me to go online to "http://vista.toshiba.com/getready/upgradeadvisor" but I cant there's no way for me to get there.
Never heard about that. You must just start recovery installation.
After notebook start press F12 to enter Boot options. Put recovery disc into optical disc drive, choose DVD/CD on the list and press ENTER.
Please try all this and send some feedback.

  • How to install windows 7 in dual boot on Satellite M840?

    Hi,
I got this M-840 Notebook a week ago pre-installed with windows 8. I cannot replace the OS with windows 7 as most of my applications are Win 8 incompatible. I tired clean install - doesn't work. I created a NTFS partition and tried installing win 7 on the new partition, but it just doesnt beyond "Starting Windows' Screen. Any help in this regard will be highly appreciated.
    Regards,
    C4I-OPS

    >. I tired clean install - doesn't work
To install Windows 7 on the Win8 notebook you need to change some settings in BIOS.
Firstly you have to disable the secure boot in BIOS.
Secondly switch from UEFI BIOS to CSM and save the changes.
Now you should be able to install Win 7
But before doing this I recommend creating the Toshiba recovery medium (flash USB memory or recovery disk

  • Satellite A205-S6808 corrupted DVD/CD-ROM Driver - Code 39

My driver is corrupted for my CD-ROM/DVD player.
There is absolutely no support for my model on the Toshiba homepage.
I tried to download the drivers for the L series L505 since my tech friend said it should have worked. It did not.
The device shos up, but I get a driver missing/corrupted message from windows.
I am running win 7 32 bit and the DVD player is the same one that came installed when I bought the laptop.
This is the message I get "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware.
The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"
    CAN ANYONE HELP??

    Hi
Im a little bit confused how you have managed to download the CD/DVD driver for the internal ODD (optical disk drive).
The point is that all Windows operating systems contain own Microsoft ODD driver which controls the CD/DVD drive.
Therefore its not necessary to load/install any drivers for CD/DVD drive.
In my personal opinion its a registry issue.
You should firstly go to the device manager and should remove the CD/DVD drive from the system.
    Next step is registry cleaning.
Start regedit and remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely from the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    After that reboot the unit
    Should work
    Greets & Good luck
PS; This is an US notebook model and all drivers can be found on Toshiba US page.

  • A205-S6808 Satellite Vista fresh reinstall. Which is better? Erase H. Drive first or not?

Is it best to totally erase hard drive before a Vista reinstall? I did the restore to factory out of box but on restart it says "one moment as Windows Vista runs for the first time…" then it just stays there on screen and does not start. HELP!!!

    Downloads here
Best to restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media. All the drivers and utilities are properly preinstalled. Windows is preactivated.
If you don't have the recovery discs, you can obtain them from Toshiba. Scroll down to Get Recovery Media here
For instructions, see the section Hard Disk Drive Recovery using the Recovery media, which begins on p. 64 of the User's Guide.

  • Satellite S55t-B5233 Shrink disk for dual boot windows 8 and other OS

    Hi,
    I have a Toshiba Satellite S55t-B5233 Pre-installed with Windows 8.1
I would like to maintain Windows 8 but to dual boot with Windows 7, Ubuntu and OpenSuse, so:
    - When I try to Shrink disk C (943371 MB) it says that 'Size of available shrink space in MB = 469651 MB'. The free space in my disk is 885240 MB!
So I would like to know if there is a way to left about 200000 MB for Windows 8? so I could use the rest of space for shrinking for other OS...
    - I would instal windows 7, ubuntu and OpenSuse in partitions D, E and F [Partitions that I pretend to create by shrinking C] ... a) does it will void my warrantee? b) does it will render my Windows 8 “Recovery Partition” useless?
    thanks in advance...
    Gari

    Satellite S55t-B5233
I don't recommend you attempt multiple-booting in this new UEFI/GPT world, Gari. Things are more difficult now than they were in the BIOS/MBR world. Best to set up virtual machines using Hyper-V or another free VM to run other OSes.
    In answer to your questions,..
    a. Toshiba doesn't care what you do with the software. They won't even look at the computer until the drive has been restored to its original out-of-the-box contents.
    b. After you mess around with the partition locations, I doubt the recovery partition would be accessible in the normal fashion if at all. Many create a recovery drive and delete the recovery partition first thing.

  • Dual boot Linux - Windows on Satellite U940

    Hello to everyone.
I'm quite new on this forum and I have a brand new Toshiba Satellite U940-10N? Using Linux for 2 years, I'd like to install a debian wheezy distribution on it.
On my former computer, only Debian was installed so I'm net really comfortable with dual boot especially with the ssd.
I don't really like windows but I keep it to work sometimes on it.
Do you think it would be better to install the linux system on the system like I've seen it on most of threads, with only the /home on the HDD ? Or do you think it would be interesting to build another raid like it is now for windows ? Would I have better perfomances and speed that way ?
Another question : is it possible to have an ext4 data partition and make windows to see it or do I have to write it in ntfs ? I have noticed that fat32 and ntfs written on linux with gparted are not reconized by windows 8.
Those are my questions for now.
    Thank you for your help.

    Hi there
First let's look at your situation - the U940-10N will most likely be a Win8 unit, right?
If YES - then the BIOS has to be set up to boot UEFI.
    Secure Boot can be disabled.
It seems Debian is not so far in supporting UEFI / EFI boot modes.
Look at this announcement from back in October:
    http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/News/2012/20121018
So, you will need to make sure your debian flavor can boot in UEFI boot mode.
If not, You will have issues getting both OS'es (Debian and Win8) to live side by side and boot without issues.
Next, You'll need to make sure Debian is able to install a boot loader that takes Windows 8 into account and is able to start that OS.
Looking at storage, I tried to install Fedora on a dual-storage system (SSD + HDD).
I installed the OS on the SSD and my Home structure was placed on the HDD.
    This worked very very well.
I think this also provides the best performance, however I have no real statistics to back it up.
Ext4 is not supported by Windows out of the box, but there is a driver existing which implements ext2,3,4 support for Windows: http://www.ext2fsd.com/
If You ask me, I would rather have Linux accessing an NTFS partition than have Windows trying to write to an Ext2/3/4 partition. I am fully confident in the NTFS support from Linux but not the other way around.
If the Fat and NTFS partitions are not recognised by Windows, please check that the partitions are Fat32 or NTFS.
It may be that the file systems are NTFS / Fat but the partitions have Linux signatures.
    Hope this helps
    BR Tom

  • Dual boot vista and xp on a Satellite A200

    Hi,
i tried to make my system a dual boot one but it seem i am having some difficulty on doing that because when i boot the cd (winXP) the system always says that it wont detect my hard drive?
How can i control the hard drive that i have..
i own an toshiba satellite a200
    thanks,

    Hi,
when installing XP you have at the beginning of the installation the option to press F6 to install RAID/SCSI drivers. At this point you must have a USB-Floppy disk drive with a disc which must contain a HDD Controller driver (mostly ICH7M/ICH8M). This HDD controller (or SATA driver) must be downloaded from the toshiba driver site.
    That means for you:
Go to the Toshiba driver [download site|http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=EU], download the storage manager, copy the ICH8M drivers to a 3.5" disk on a usb floppy drive, start your XP installation and press F6 when asked.
Then choose the driver and your HDD will be recognized. Dont forget to install the whole storage manager after completed installation. And the other drivers too. :)

  • Satellite Pro A200: How to create Dual boot; Vista & XP using Recovery CD

I have just purchased a Satellite Pro A200 lap-top, which was supplied with Product Recovery disks for both Vista and XP.
The Vista licence specifically also licences XP.
Can I set up a dual boot so that I can boot to either Vista or XP ? If so, how?
I would also like, as a third boot, Red Hat Linux 9.
    Any comments ?

Hmmm. Usually its possible to use two or more operating systems on the computer but as far as I know the Toshiba Vista Recovery CD formats the whole HDD during the Vista installation and this will lead to losing of the installed OS's.
Im not 100% sure about the XP Recovery CD The newest CD called RECO doesnt include expert mode which allows choosing between different partitions.
So I presume every usage of the Recovery CD will format the HDD and will erase the installed data. But of course you could try to install both OS and to check if the XP recovery CD allows choosing second portion for the OS installation.
If it will not function it seems that you will need either an original Microsoft XP CD or the original Vista CD to use both OS.
    Best regards

  • Satellite A205-S5804 won't boot.

My computer Satellite A205-S5804 won't boot.
It won't run on safe mode, and it won't run the system restore.
It remains black with a cursor, if anything at all.
How do I get my computer back on?

    Hi
Youve got a cursor which is flashing in the upper left corner?
In such case you should check of the HDD has been recognized by BIOS!
If the HDD is listed in BIOS then I would recommend checking the HDD using the drives fitness test:
    http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm
To run the drives fitness test you must download the appropriate creator or image and create a self-booting media.
    Check it!

  • Satellite A205-S7464 strange boot beep

    Hi
I bought a brand new Satellite A205 laptop last year and about a week ago it started beeping when booting and doesn't get to the windows. I have to try several times before it loads it. Any ideas about this problem?

    Hi
In first case you should check if the power supply causes this this means you will need to test the notebook using completely new AC adaptor.
But to be honest in my opinion this could be a serious motherboard issue
Possibly something wrong with the power supply electronic on with the memory modules
I think you have no resources for checking this and therefore I think the best is to contact the ASP in your country. The guys could check this and then you would know what part must be replaced.

  • Dual boot up on Satellite L300-144 series

    Hi
Got a new Satellite L300 144 series laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium.
Is it possible to install Windows XP and have dual boot up options?
    Are there any hardware constrains?
What additional drivers would be required during setup of WXP?
What would be the steps involved or if there is already a solution posted can you point it out for me. Thanks.
    diwang

At first it is important to say that WXp is supported for this notebook model and on Toshiba support page http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads you can find WXP drivers.
It is also important to say that recovery image (DVD version) can not be installed on second partition and at first you should install original Toshiba Vista OS. Use option to create separate partition for Vista installation. At the beginning of recovery procedure enter SETUP option and choose how big the first partition should be. If I am remembering well it is in percent.
After Vista installation you must install WXP. Of course on second partition. For WXP installation please use WXP with integrated SP2. When installation starts the HDD will not be recognized properly. For this you need Intel Storage manager. You can find it on Toshiba download page.
When WXP installation starts press F6 to load this. For doing this you need USB FDD.
At the end there is one small problem. after WXP installation you will not be able to start Vista because WXP does not recognized Vista and does not offer boot manager. You must install boot manager that offer you selection between both preinstalled operating systems.
If you install Vista as second OS you will not have this problem because Vista recognize Xp and at start up offer selection between older Microsoft operating system and Vista.
So if you have more questions please write again.
    Bye and good luck!
