Dual boot OSX - 10.9 & 10.6

Hi everyone,
I'm fighting with this for days, and the 3 beeps are making me mad so I hope someone can help..
The story:
I have a refurbished early 2011 MBP, it came with Snow Leopard (10.6) installed. I upgraded to Mavericks 10.9 but now I need to work with apps that don't run in Mavericks but only in 10.6 (updating the apps is too expensive, and the virtual machine solution does not satisfy me).
I'm trying to make a dual boot system with both (10.6 and 10.9) OSX installed, but the three beeps are stopping me every time I try to work with 10.6.
I made a backup, formatted the drive (Mac Os extended Journaled), and made 2 partitions.
I have my original 10.6 installation disk, and my 10.9 mounted in my external usb drive.
I tried to install 10.6 first, but the three beeps sounded.
I tried to install 10.9 first, and 10.6 later, but the three beeps sounded again.
I tried to install 10.6 using another MB (with 10.6 on it) and my MBP booted in Target disk mode, the installation went good, but when I try to boot my MPB selecting the 10.6 partition the three beeps sounds again.
I also tried to install only 10.6 in a single partition using the last method.. still the three mind shaking beeeps.
At this moment I have 2 partitions, with the 2 OSX installed, but only 10.9 is able to boot.
I know my MPB can work with 10.6 (it came from the store with it), but I can't figure out how to make it run again. Can anyone help me?
Is it possible to make the dual boot 10.6 + 10.9 system?
If so, how?

That should be working then. I simply added a second partition by clicking the + button, according to Pondini's instructions in that link I gave you.
Are you restarting into the startup manager (boot picker)? Unless it's USB 3.0, a USB external will be extremely slow.
What is Disk Utility showing when you select the partition tab? Do you see both volumes?

Dual Boot OSX Tiger 10.4.8 and OSX Tiger 10.4.8 Server

I would like to know how I could have 1 hard drive with 2 Volumes. One running Tiger and one running Tiger Server. I would like to use it to test my applications to make sure that what I'm developing in Tiger will also work find in Server.
Is this possible? And how would I choose between the two?

I'm not familiar with the Tiger Server software/requirements but you can certainly partition the hard drive into two partitions each with a boot volume.
To choose between the two, you can make use of the Startup Manager to choose the startup or boot volume when starting up or restarting the computer.

Again not sure about the Tiger Server software but definitely with Leopard and Tiger.

Dual boot OSX and 9.2, how to switch back to OSX?

Hi Guys,
I am brand new to Mac. I was given this iMac Power Mac 750 600Mhz with 256MB memory and a 80G hard drive. When I got it, it boots to OS X and I don't know what I did (maybe because I plugged in a USB hard drive) but it started to boot to OS 9.2 now, and I don't know how to switch back to OS X.
I remember, when I plugged in the USB flash key, it was running OS X, and it asked me to hold on the power button for several seconds to reboot, I followed that, and it boots to 9.2 ever since.
How do I make it boot to OSX?

I have a Early 2011 Macbook Pro 13-inch. 2.7 Ghz i7. 8GB RAM. Intel HD 3000 512mb.

Will upgrading to OSX Mountain Lion erase my rEFIT dual boot Windows?

At the suggestion of one of the users in a different section of the forum, I am posting my question here in hopes of finding someone who might have already done this upgrade and can speak from experience.
I have a MacBook Air that is currently setup to dual-boot OSX Lion or Windows 7 with Boot Camp. The Windows 7 was a requirement in order to be able to use my laptop for work. I want to upgrade to Mountain Lion but I also don't want to erase the partitioning on the hard-drive and I want to keep my Windows 7 installation intact. If I choose to upgrade (instead of a clean install) will this delete the Windows partition and wipe out my disk or will it retain my dual-boot option as it currently is?

Then wait on update, and plan to (goes without saying hopefully) to have backups of both that you can always restore. Especially as this is a work computer in essence.
Lion had trouble until 10.7.1 and the Lion 4.0 Windows Support Software itself was buggy for those that were installing Windows (or upgrade their boot camp drivers with Lion's).
Until people look at the Lion Recovery partition and whether that changed in size or something, or other changes to the partition tables.
WinClone 3 and CampTune can both help preserve your installation and Carbon Copy Cloner to make bootable backup of Lion and Lion Recovery, in addition to TimeMachine. (TimeMachine has been improved and more flexible).
And store your ML install package somewhere - given how slow it is DL'ing I'd wait days to even bother.

Powering & dual booting a new 23" ADC with a g4 dual 450 AGP

Hello,
I have a dual G4 450, with an upgraded ATI 9000 pro card (64mb) with DVI.
I dual boot OSX & 9.2.2.
Will my setup allow me to drive a new Apple 23" ADC in both operating systems problem free?
Will OS 9.2.2 restrict any needed functions for the display to operate fully while in 9.2.2?

If it's a dual 450MHz (with the original processors) it's probably a Gigabit Ethernet G4 rather than an AGP G4, so should support a graphics card with an Apple Display Connector.
The older style 23" Cinema display (with a clear acrylic enclosure and three legs) uses an Apple Display Connector. The newer style 23" Cinema display (with an aluminium enclosure and single foot) uses a DVI connector. Both should work with a Radeon 9000 in a Gigabit Ethernet G4 without the need for any adapters, as the card comes with ADC and DVI ports and drives digital flat panels upto 1920x1200.
I'd double check but I think the monitor should work under OS 9, although some of the buttons may not work as expected. The following article refers to the 20" Cinema display although I expect it's also applicable to the 23" display:

Is there any possible way I can dual boot Windows with OSX 10.7.2 on a MacBook Pro 15' from 2006?

I am new to this forums.
I have searched about dual boot win/mac, but couldn't find a clear answer, so I decided to post this now.
I run a MacBook Pro 15' from 2006 (Intel based) and have upgraded it to OSX 10.7.2 Lion.
I have tried to install windows 7 on a small (20GB) partition by using Bootcamp, but then I've received a notice saying that there was no windows support software available. However, I did install Windows 7 Professional by unchecking that box. After the installation I have downloaded the windows support software and tried to install it but then I've received a notice saying that I can't install it on this machine.
Could you please give me any suggestions on how to dual boot win/mac, if it is possible at all using this machine? And how to safely go back to where I was before (with a single mac OSX 10.7.2 partition)?

Attempted to install windows 7 for dual boot but OSX installation now missing???

I've tried to install Wndows 7 on my macbook air for dual boot but got the kernal error on boot.
I loaded from the CD again and it sucessfully installed win 7 but when I start the macbook air up it only appears to have windows installed?
How can I get my OSX back?

For some odd reason when you use bootcamp to install the second OS bootcamp is defaulted as the primary OS you will need to hold option key to select the apple OS then in the sys preference under startup disk select apple as primary.

Macbook Pro - 2 Hard Drives - Dual Boot OS OSX + Windows

Hello guys, I've been facing an issue here
I bought an SSD 2 years ago and changed the original MBP HD. I did a fresh install of OSX while still having my optical drive. Everything is fine with the OSX installation.
Recently I bought an enclosure and installed the original MBP HD drive into the optical drive slot. Now i have two HD's on my MBP (Early 2011 - Unibody Model)
The configuration for the Hard Drives is as follows:
SSD Drive - disk 0 - OS X Running fine
HD Drive - disk 1 - clean formatted to accommodate Windows 7 installation
I started the BootCamp Utility formated the second hard drive to install windows from bootable USB. Everything works fine until the point where the Windows installation actually expands the files. I always get the same error, that windows cannot be installed on that drive and any changes will be reverted back to original settings.
Several hours after researching the whole thing this is what I've got:
The error that I am getting is for the configuration of the drives, a fix to this problem is to take out my SSD, install the old HD in its original position, install windows normally, put my SSD back in its position and put the old HD in the optical drive and thus I will have the Dual Boot of two OS in two different HD's. That's really really awful as I have to take appart again the whole thing and swap between the drives till the process is finished. This is because The EFI boot + Windows to be installed require the disk that windows to be installed to be on main slot - disk 0.
My question here is, is there any fix to the BootCamp assistant to let me install windows on the hard drive that it is located on the disk 1 position?
Moreover is there any way to install windows through the environment of OSX with the use of a VM, but, the windows to be a bootable OS rather than a VM bootable image? (on disk 1 - optical drive SATA port). - What I mean by that is, while running OS X normally on disk 0 run a VM software that will mimic the environment of a bootloader so that I can install windows on disk 1, but after I shut down my computer, windows should be accessible on disk 1 as a normal installed OS.

You can install Parallels or Fusion, either will work. When you setup either Parallels or fusion you can tell it to use your already installed Boot Camp installation of Windows as its target guest operating system.
You would then just boot into OSx, start your VM (Parallels or Fusion), then you'll have access to both OSx and Windows without having to reboot.
I have this setup and two monitors. I have my Windows running on my external monitor and OSx running on my Macbook Pro monitor at the same time.
Beware that you will need to re-register Windows to get a second key. This is free and easily done either online or by calling the Microsoft registration number. The reason for needing a second key is that Windows, although only installed once in your Boot Camp partition sees the virtual hardware created by your virtual machine and thinks it has been reinstalled on a new computer.

When dual-booting with Windows 7, Mac OSX time settings reset every reboot.

I have recently installed Windows 7 Professional on my mid 2010 MacBook Pro via BootCamp (Running Mavericks BTW). Everything runs grean and have not experienced any problems on the Windows side, but I have a problem with Mac OSX now. When I am using Windows 7, and I reboot into Mac OSX, I find that my time settings are wrong. It seems like my time zone has changed, because the date is correct, as well as the minutes, but the hour is always wrong. When I go to Date & Time in System Preferences, and my time zone is correct, but I still have to chage the hour in the time. Any ideas as to why this is happening and how to stop it would be greatly appreciated.

If you dual boot your Windows PC with OS X or Linux, you may have experienced a problem in which your clocks reset themselves incorrectly every time you boot into Windows. Here's a simple registry edit to fix that.
Essentially, the incorrect clock setting happens because OS X and Linux use GMT time while Windows tries to synchronize with your local time zone, getting confused when you reboot between the two. Apple's own Boot Camp drivers for Windows are supposed to fix this problem, though some users have noticed that it still happens even with the drivers installed, and some Linux users are left out in the cold. Furthermore, if you have a Hackintosh, you can't install the Boot Camp drivers, so you'll need to find another way around the problem.
To fix it, just hit Start and type regedit.exe in the search box. Hit Enter and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\TimeZoneInformation. Right click anywhere in the right pane and hit New > DWORD (32-bit) Value. Name it RealTimeIsUniversal, then double click on it and give it a value of 1.
Lastly, reboot into OS X, then reboot back into Windows. You should now notice that your clock actually displays the correct time.

I thought this was a great blog from networkjew.com about creating a Dual Boot Windows7 and OSX on an HP 2140.
Now that you’ve got your sleek little HP 2140 netbook, its time to blow away Windows XP and put something a bit snazzier on there. I’ve toyed with OSX86 previously, and knew that most of the netbooks out there support it in one way or another, and many of them quite well. I had also read that Windows 7 played very nicely on these tiny computers, and it’s free for a few months, so why not?
Here’s how I made it work – there may be better ways, but this worked for me, mostly:

Windows 7 runs great on the 2140. I actually haven't had a chance to test all hardware functionality, but its nice and snappy; and as far as I can tell, all the hardware was recognized right out of the box. I loaded several of the Vista drivers/software from the HP support website and a few of them failed, but many installed just fine. I forgot to note which ones, unfortunately.

Best stable media partition filesystem for Linux/OSX dual boot

Hi there, dual booting linux and Snow Leopard.. I am re-formatting my media partition (which I keep separate from the linux and osx files so as to keep them safe if I want to reinstall/upgrade the operating systems or mess something up), and was wondering as to the best filesystem I should pick? I would do ext4, but from what I understand osx cannot read/write to it natively or in a stable fashion. Keep in mind the media partition will be used to hold/read all the files when using the computer, including when watching movies, playing music, writing documents, storing photos, etc..

I rarely reboot or shutdown improperly, so I have no insights to offer into the impacts of these behaviours on HFS+ in Linux.
IIRC, I once had a catastrophic and irreparable error when I used the command line in Linux to change a directory name on an HFS+ filesystem from being all lowercase to start with an uppercase letter. I had to restore the filesystem contents from backup.
Other than that, I have lots of minor, easily fixable, but somewhat troublingly frequent errors with incorrect numbers of inodes and such like.
If you are bringing Windows into the equation, I seem to recall a Slashdot article from within the last couple of years which had a question re: sharing files in a triple-boot environment (Windows, OS X, and Linux). If you can track down the article, the comments may be useful.

How to create a dual boot on OSX Mavericks?

I've Mavericks and I want to install two more OS X (10.7 and 10.8) on the same machine. Is there any way to install earlier OS X along with the latest OSX ?
I've created partitions and tried to install there but a message says something like this "This OS X could not be installed on this MAC". Then I tried to create a bootable usb drive by "DiskMaker X" but that was also failed.
Any help would be appreciated.

Create a new partition for Windows XP and install it. This is no problem.
After this you must restore the Windows Vista boot loader. You can do this with EasyBCD. Install it and start the program.
Go to the "Add/Remove Entries" tab. You'll see that there's only one option available in the Vista bootloader at the moment. In the "Add an Entry" section, change the Drive in the dropdown menu from C:\ to E:\. Change Type to "Windows NT/2k/XP/2k3", and the Name to "Microsoft Windows XP". Then click "Add Entry" and "Save".
Then go to the "Manage Bootloader" tab. Make sure that "Reinstall the Vista Bootloader" is selected and then click "Write MBR".
Now you can restart the notebook and you should have a full working dual boot system.

Hey guys, I was wondering if it is possible to dual-boot both OS's similar to OS X and Windows 7/8...but first I'm wondering if it will void my MacBook Air Warranty (w/ AppleCare) as ultimately it wouldn't be worth it then!

Which CD are you trying to use?
Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) originally came on DVD.
A media exchange program initially was available:
