Dual burner troubles in DVDSP 4!

Hi
I have the internal SuperDrive, and an external Bravo DVD robot on my G5. When I am in DVDSP and need to burn a disc, the program defaults to the external robot as the burn drive, not the internal SuperDrive. This is annoying since it is not within arm's-reach, and I want to use the internal drive anyways to record master discs. I haven't been able to find any place in DVDSP to assign the internal drive as the primary burner.
Outside of disconnecting the Bravo from the Mac I can't find how to change back to the intwrnal drive,
Any ideas?!
Thanks

under format you can set the burner right below the destination

  • BURN DVD ON DVDSP OR ON TOAST?

I have burned on both DVDSP and TOAST.
IS it better quality to burn directly from DVDSP?
A duplication house told me not sending them DVDs for duplication burned on toast. Is it safer for duplication burning on DVDSP?

    Hi Logic express . . . . . . .:
If you do it right IMHO there is no difference and don't think nobody can find the difference. Problem is you could make some mistakes while burning in Toast (i.e. not selecting the right UDF format).
I found the safest workflow "for me" is building an image disc with DVDSP and burning it with Toast and/or Disk Utility. Check this link: Creating Disc Image in DVDSP (from www.kenstone.net site).
    Hope it helps !

  • Final Cut Studio install - Trouble with DVDSP 4 Preferences & Burn / menus

Hi there. I recently upgraded my dual G5 to Tiger and upgraded my FCP 4.5 & DVDSP 2 by installing a full version of Final Cut Studio.
Final Cut is working fine. DVDSP is not. It opens fine, however when I choose to open the Preferences to setup format (PAL) and encoding prefs, etc - I do not get a dialogue box. If I try the shortcut, I see the menu bar light, but again no dialogue box.
I tired to build a new project with compressor encoded mpeg2 & aiff streams and found that Burn / Build & Format are greyed out in the menu. I know that the file types are fine as I have used them before without any issues. I checked to see that the correct serial number is for FC Studio and it is. I have also ran all of the updates.
I also find that Compressor is often a little buggy. Sometimes works fine, other times crashes.
    Anyone have any ideas?
I really do not want to reformat by reinstalling Tiger fresh. I am thinking about trying to delete all of Final Cut Studio and the older FCP & DVDSP apps on my machine.
I would really appriciate some advice beofre I get myself into any mess!
    Thanks for reading!!

Hello. Many thanks to everyone that tried to help me.
My problem has now been solved by the same post in the DVDSP forum. Here is the post that solved all of my problems.

Even though the software update appeared as if I was completely up to date, the ProAppRuntime.dmg solved all of my issues. Thanks David S.!!!

I would like to say BIG THANK YOU to David S.!!! I DL'ed & installed the update you mentioned. After a restart, DVDSP 4 is now working fine. The update resolved my preference & burning & building issues. I am very HAPPY to have a reprive from a fresh install.

  • Can you change default burn output in DVDSP?

    Hi All
I got a dual layer external burner (lacie D2) for my G5 dual2 which has a single layer superdrive inside. I encoded the movie file with Compressor, imported the assets to DVDSP and clicked burn as i usually do. DVDSP spits out the superdrive tray and asks for some suitable media to be placed in there, as it normally does.
Q> How can I make DVDSP address the Lacie, when I click burn, instead of the G5 superdrive.?
    Cheers
    Jamie

    A> You can't
Although the drive on the computer opens as usual you should be able to open the external drive, insert a blank DVD, close it and *in theory DVDSP should burn it. OR if you already have a blank DVD in the External drive before you try to burn in DVDSP then when you click burn your internal drive should not even open. If you have a blank DVD in the internal drive and a blank DVD in the External drive then DVDSP will burn a DVD onto the internal drive. I'm not %100 sure but try it out!
Another alternative is to build the DVD in DVDSP and use Toast to format to the external drive. This is the preferred method since you can set the burn speed (DVDSP burns at the highest speed which increases the risk of burning coasters).
Something else you might of wanted to consider is acquiring a Dual-Layer internal drive...

  • Superdrive has burning troubles?

I have a dual 2 ghz. Powermac G5 and it has a Sony dvd-Rw Dw-U10A. I'm having a lot of troubles with it not reading Bought dvds, and is worse with blank or burned dvds. I'm not sure if it's the the optical drive that can't read it, or if it's just firmware problem. If anyone knows what to do, or any downloadable software to fix it, That would be a big help. Thanks

Since the problem seems to occur universally, the first thing I'd try is cleaning the drive's laser lens. You can get a DVD cleaning disc at almost any store selling electronics .. including WalMart.

  • More burning trouble

Ok, so I redid my project in SD instead of HD but I'm still having trouble burning my DVD project. It says that the Video_TS folder was not included in the final disc. Any ideas? thanks

Alright, I got the DVD lens cleaner and ran it through the process a couple time. Then, for the first time, I was successfuly able to burn two Verbatim DVD+R DLs. However, I got the same old error message while trying to burn the third one. I tried cleaning it again, but no luck. Now what?

  • Using lacie dvd d2 dual burner to import to itunes

I just bought a lacie dvd d2 dual disk burner and am having problems importing audio cds to itunes. It seems
that I can play cds from the lacie launched desktop folder no problem, but in itunes the sound is fractured
with a constant clicking and waving sound. Anyone know what's up with this?
I also had the same problem some you have been talking about with itunes 5 not wanting to burn cds and
informing me that the speed was too fast. Having an older ibook I thought that my laser was going.
I'd apprecitate any help here. Thanks in advance.

This is not a Final Cut Express related topic. You're more likely to find LaCie DVD burner users on forums like iDVD and DVD Studio Pro.

  • DVD/DC burner trouble!

OK, had my g5 about a year now, works great, no trouble, till today. I burn a CD and, even trying to play it back in the computer [as well as a Sony DVD/SD/SACD player] about 45 minutes into it, I get a "zit--zit--zit--zit--" sound from the speakers about 4 x per second. It's as if I'm getting an incomplete burn. Plays back this way on computer, home player, and Discman. Never a problem till today.
Yes, I rebooted, cleaned all lasers first with cleaning disc, then dismantled all, blew out w compressed air, and cleaned lens directy w Q-tip and lens cleaner. No help.
Should I just buy a new optical drive and pop it in? Anything that burns DVD-DL and is longer lasting than this Sony original drive?

Well, an update which I hope might help others:
It turned out that BOTH my G5 burner [made by SONY] and my stand-alone DVD-SACD player [also by SONY] purchased within a week of each other, were both dying at the same time.
I replaced computer drive with new MCE drive [by Pioneer] and stand-alone with new Denon DVD-1920 and now everything works perfectly. Video & audio are better than ever.
I'll never buy anything by SONY again! This company totally...um...stinks.

  • T420 Dual Boot Trouble 7 & XP

I have a Think Pad T420 with dual boot option of Windows 7 Pro and Windows XP Pro both 32-bit. However for me to boot into Windows 7 I have to set the SATA configuration in the BIOS to AHCI Mode, but that will cause the XP to BSOD with the error of unable to detect hard drive. I change the SATA configuration to Compatibility and Windows XP can boot successfully but Windows 7 BSOD with the same error. I cannot seem to find the right driver for the AHCI chipset for Windows XP. If anyone could offer any assitance, that would be great.

It'll be the Intel Rapid Storage drivers for XP to work in AHCI mode.

  • Arch and preinstalled windows 7 UEFI dual boot troubles

Hi guys, I have a UEFI pc already with windows 7 on and want to dual boot arch. Problem is the current uefi partition is only 100mb and whenever i try to install a bootloader in the arch install it gives the message 'not enough room on partition'. is there a way i can increase the current uefi partition size without effecting the windows install?

Try checking how much free space you actually have on the ESP. 100MB is smaller than most people here recommend, but it should be big enough to hold the Windows boot loader, a Linux boot loader or boot manager, and at least two or three (probably more like ten or fifteen) Linux kernels and initrd files. If the 100MiB is nearly used up, then that suggests that something unusual is chewing up a bunch of space, and you can probably delete those files. This is just a task of routine file management -- identify what's consuming the space and delete anything that you don't need. The trick is figuring out what you don't need, so if you're uncertain of something, post back with details (for instance, "I've found 70 1MiB .png files in the Foo/Bar directory; do I need them?").
If something is legitimately consuming that much space, you can either create a second ESP (although that could cause problems down the road if you need to re-install Windows) or resize your partitions. Chances are you've got a Windows partition that immediately follows the ESP. Resizing it so you can increase the ESP's size is possible, but will require resizing the Windows partition from the front. This is risky and is likely to be time-consuming, so be sure to back up before you do it. Another possibility would be to create a larger ESP elsewhere on the disk, copy the contents of the first ESP to the new one, and delete the original. The 100MB of unused space would be wasted, or maybe you could find a way to use it (swap space comes to mind, although 100MB is tiny by modern swap space standards). On a modern disk, 100MB of wasted space is likely to be trivial -- for instance, on a 1TB disk, 100MB is just 0.01% of the total disk space.
As cfr says, some boot loaders/managers, such as rEFInd and GRUB, enable you to load your kernels from something other than the ESP. Thus, if you're running out of space because you've got big kernels or initrd files, you could put them elsewhere and use just a small amount of space on the ESP for the boot loader/manager.

  • DVD-R Burning troubles...

Here is a brief list of my problems so far...
Recognized and Read several CD-R's as well as a hand full of DVD's but failed to recognize 2 DVD-ROM's (Movies).
Tried 4x and failed during verification.
Switched to 1x and received the following message during burn:
Burning the disc failed because communication to the disc drive failed. (Error code 0x80020022)
Switched to 2x and apparently succeeded.
    Notes:
Burning 4.28 GB .jpg .bmp .avi .psd
    On Memorex DVD-R 8x 4.7GB
    MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-857 Firmware revision HAE4
Is there any possiblity at all that this is a firmware issue?

    UPDATE April 10, 2006
My laptop has been returned to me complete with a "new" Super Drive. I popped in a new DVD-R and attempted to burn the same files that I mentioned above.
This first attempt met with success at 4x. I'll continue using the drive (I have plenty more to burn) and report back here if there are any problems.
If you're having the same issues that I had then the following information may be helpful. The "new" drive I received is the same model and firmware revision as the one that failed to work. Also, the drive exhibits some new behaviors. When pressing the eject button on the previous drive it would extend the disc out past the center hole. This "new" drive only extends the disc to the top of the center hole. About a cm less. Furthermore when pressing the eject button with no disc inserted my previous drive would make a sound. The "new" drive remains silent but I can feel a bit of vibration.
I sent this laptop in with a full battery and it was returned with half a charge. From Recent Items (Apple Menu) I can see that they ran DVD Player and System Profiler. I'm not sure if they burned a DVD with the "new" drive since Finder usage isn't reported in that menu.
I hope this information is helpful to somebody.
    Good luck

  • DVD burning trouble

Hi, Whenever I try to burn a Data DVD using Itunes, it checks the playlist, and then tells me that the playlist is too large for one Data DVD. Itunes is showing that the playlist is 4.53 GB, and the DVD is good for 4.7 GB. I've tried using a Sony DVD and a Verbatim DVD. I would prefer to avoid burning small amounts on to DVD's when I know what is happening. What am I doing wrong that Itunes is preventing me from burning the songs onto a DVD. The songs are recorded in 128 bite, and are in MP3 format. Thanks fro your help.
P.S. I have a DVD burner built into the Ibook
Oh, and as a side note, if I try to drag more then about 20 songs into a folder on my desktop, Itunes won't let me. This was another way I tried to burn a DVD, but realized it wasn't time smart when messing with around 1200 songs. Once Again, Thanks for the Help

Although your DVD says 4.7 GB, you can't fit more than 4.3 to 4.4 GB of data on it.
There are two reasons for that.
Manufacturers of storage devices advertise with GBs, where they state 1 GB = 1000 MB.
Your computer uses: 1 GB = 1024 MB, which is correct.
So a DVD can hold 4.7/1.024 = 4.59 GB at maximum!
Not only data is stored, but also an index of all the files on that DVD.
That also has to be substracted from the total capacity.
Effectively, you should not try to store more than 4.3 GB on a DVD.
Your second problem could be due to the following:
If a file(name) that you're trying to drag into the desktop folder already exists, iTunes won't let you copy it.
If you try to do that in the Finder, you will get a warning (of course)
iTunes doesn't give a warning, just does nothing.
    Hope this helps.
