Dual Channel memory problems on Neo 875P

I am having considerable trouble getting the NEO 875P to work with dual channel DDR400 DIMMs. I have two Kingston KVR400X64C25 DDR400 256MB memory modules, each of which works correctly by itself. However, once I move one
of the modules to channel B, I cannot boot my operating system (currently Windows XP.) The problem also occurs in Windows 2000, which I also have on the system. I receive blue screen errors that indicate paging/memory problems. I have upgraded my BIOS to the latest version (1.3)* in the hope that it would solve my problems, but it has not. The POST screen detects that there is 512MB of memory working in Dual Channel mode, but even when it does get through the O/S booting process (rarely), it crashes within minutes. Putting just one of the chips in makes the system perfectly stable. If anyone has any information, please let me know!
Thanks,

* My board was dead after trying to flash the 1.3 BIOS, but after about 10 attempts of using CTRL+HOME method to recover the BIOS, it finally worked with version 1.0. I then re-flashed with 1.3, and it rebooted fine. Are there any updates about all of the problems with v1.3 ?

>I can only answer based on what I've read on this forum
I figured as much, I was just wondering if you knew whether MSI themselves frequents the forums or answers emails sufficiently.
I've had an interesting development though. I stumbled upon Tom's Hardware Guide's article about 875P motherboards at http://www17.tomshardware.com/motherboard/20030519/i875p-01.html
They mentioned that they needed to increase the memory voltage from 2.5 to 2.6 in the BIOS to get some memory modules to work. I did this, and for the first time, I am running in Dual channel DDR mode. However, the article also mentions that "the system does not run completely stably", so I guess I'll have to wait and see if it crashes again. However, I'm far enough beyond the XP splash screen to post this message, so I guess we're getting somewhere!

  • Problem with dual channel memory (B75MA-P45)

    Hello,
I can't make the dual channel memory working.
When I put DDR3 in slots 2 + 4 or slots 1 + 3 and even if all slots are installed with the same DIMM, it does not boot and restart in loop.
Currently, this mobo works with DDR3 in slots 1 + 2 (so without dual channel).
I have read posts about bent pins, therefore I inspected the CPU seating but nothing seems wrong.
My CPU has been recovered from a HP pavilion ; don't know whether it's important or not.
Hope someone has a tip for me.
    My configuration:
    Motherboard: B75MA-P45
    CPU: i5-2320
    Memory: tried several, finally tested 4 x 4GB Kingston PC3-10600 CL9 240 (KVR13N9S8/4)
Graphic card: Palit GeForce GTX-750 Ti

    Thanks for your answers.
    I'll try asap slots 3 & 4.
It's almost a new build (one month ago). The whole story is:
I bought the motherboard and two memory sticks of 2 and 4 GB DDR3 as I already had similar ones on my HP pavilion (but not exactly the same, not same brand). I expected to run on 12 GB dual channel memory. But the dual channel did not work at first try. After some additionnal testing, I tought it was because the sticks aren't compatible ones with others. So I purchased 3 sticks of Kingston 4 GB, exactly the same reference as one I already have.
Now, I'm pretty sure that this problem isn't related to memory sticks.
I already did a clear CMOS during installation for other reason but it didn't solve this problem.
Since, this PC works well with Win7. I tested it under considerable stress and it runs just fine.

  • A85XA-G65 can't find option to enable dual channel memory mode

    Hi,
    My system is new build.
    Specs:
    MSI A85XA-G65
AMD A10-5800K Black Edition 3.80GHz (Socket FM2) APU Trinity
    Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit
Corsair Force GT 120GB (system drive)
    PSU OCZ ZT 550W
    Win 7 64-bit
Problem: UEFI showing 8Gb memory but only 4Gb physical memory showing when SiSandra used and in Windows.
I can't find the option to enable dual channel memory mode. Slots populated are DIMM1 and DIMM3. When DIMM 2 and 4 are populated it will not boot (no dsiplay). I can easily switch between DIMM 1 and 3 in control centre for UEFI but I am unable to switch to dual channel mode no matter what i try.
    Any ideas?

For dual channel to work DIMM 2 & 4 must be populated. It won't work with 1 & 3.  Try with one stick and set timings and speed according to the sticks' specifiactions in the oc section of your bios then retry with dimm 2 & 4. If no help try slower timings like 10-10-10-28-2T

  • Trouble with Neo4 Platnum and AMD X2 with dual channel memory

I just installed an X2 3800+ in my Neo4 Platnum board.  The board had a 3500 in it and ran fine.  When I installed the X2, the machine will no longer POST if the memory is in the dual channel mode.  I flashed to the latest BIOS (1.8) and it still does not work.  I am using 2 Corsair XMS 2-2-2-5 Dimms each at 512MB.  The PC POSTs fine if I place both modules in the Green slots.  It does not work with 1 in green and 1 in purple (with either Dimms1-2 or 3-4).  Has anyone else seen this?

    Todd,
Your last post help me understand your situation a bit better.  Here are some questions for you:
1- On your old system did these memory sticks work fine has a dual channel pair? Were these 2 memory sticks bought has a dual channel rated matched pair?
2- In your own words give me your definition of POST?
3- In your own words give me your exact detailed rendition of what happens when you try to post with dual setup. (How far do you get? Where does it hang up?)
4- Can you access your BIOS if booting with only one memory stick? If so, this is only for testing purposes, set your memory as 2.5,3,3,8, and 2T and add 0.05 volts to both your CPU and memory recommended voltages. Save, exit, and then shut down your system. Re-install the second stick of RAM in a proper dual channel slot. Re-boot and see what happens. If successful posting and booting in dual channel with this BIOS config go back to your BIOS and tighten your board and memory timings one at a time until you ID the perfect BIOS config for your CPU and RAM. Do the same with your CPU & RAM voltages.
AMD CPUs encompass their own memory control devices. There might just be enough variance between your older & newer AMD chips to reject dual configuration. If this is the case you may be able to correct it by using step for above. If this does not work, you sould borrow some suitable and proven dual channel memory sticks from a friend to see if the will work in your rig as dual channel?
Just keep on trucking & you'll solve it

  • Does the SONY VAIO F Series SVF15412CXB support dual channel memory?

Does the SONY VAIO F Series SVF15412CXB support dual channel memory?  Or does it only have one slot?
I'm curious if I can put a second stick of RAM in there for dual channel performance.

Hi Mark, Thanks for the response.  Can you please double check that for me, or post a link to the documentation where you saw that?  I asked this question on Newegg, too, and one of the respondants heard differently:
"i found out from sony that there is only 1 slot cause i was gonna get 1 more 4GB stick of ram for 8Gb. So iwas upset about that cause i have to get 8GB now and it costs 100$ for an 8Gb stick of ram on ebay. So this ram is expensive. So im sticking with 4Gb for now. This is a very good laptop though. I use it primarily for minecarft and steam and i get around 100 fps on minecraft so its good. I hope this helps." It's just confusing because other laptop advertisments I've seen openly stated how many RAM slots the computer had and how many were used upon purchase.  I haven't found anything like that which makes me think that there's only one slot for RAM. Thanks,Gremark

  • K7N2 delta in dual channel memory

Hi, I am new with MSI, new in this forum, and want to know what can I do to use the recent purchased K7N2-L mainboard in dual channel memory operation.
Manual instructions is not enough for me, because I don't know if any memory modules may be used or if special two are required.
Can I use two Kingston ValueRam 512MB PC2700 CL 2.5 for this purpose?
Inserting it in one purple and green memory sockets is the only thing I must to do?
Thanks in advance for your help and comments!

  • Neo2 platinum Encountering Stability Problems /w dual channel memory

    Hello,
Recently I built my first computer ever, see bottom.  After getting windows installed I then had problems with installing other programs and general stability issues.  I tried reinstalling windows and after the reinstall I got the same problems.
Something to do with the instability is when I start it up, and go into BIOS, it states my Athlon 64 3500+ as running at 2211, a half percent overclock.  Also, even though I have the FSB set as 200mhz, when I go into CoreCenter on windows it states the FSB as being set 201mhz.  In the nVidia system utility, it states my memory as running at 402mhz, and I had to crank that down to 400mhz to get stability, it allowed my to install programs without error, but there were still stability problems like crashes(blue screen, the computer just plain restarting without notice).  I took out one of my memory cards, both of them work alone though, I've ran memory test utilities.  That had a good effect and the computer runs fairly stable, but I still have problems, and I want to be able to take advantage of dual channel.  I'm running my memory on auto and it's using the times of 2-3-3-6-2T.
Another problem I'm experiencing is the AC97 audio not being detected and loaded by windows, it will say I have no audio device, and the speaker will not show up in the notification area in the bottom right-hand corner.  This happens inconsistantly.

    3) It may be worth checking the Mushkin site or any documentation you have to verify that the auto settings agree with the quoted settings for the modules. It's not unkown for errors to occur when the memory controller on the CPU to misinterpret the SPD chip setting on your sticks - this is where the auto settings come from. Some memory like certain corsair modules need to run at different settings on AMD64, thus auto timings must be overidden,
    4) Have you installed the Realtek drivers from the CD, & enabled onboard sound in Bios. When these are done normally there's the MSI Sound Effect manager in control panel. you just need to set your speaker config in the Windows Sounds & Audio Devices.
    5) Usual question What power supply are you using as been underpowered on the 12v rail in particular can be the cause of crashes,

not overclocking or even trying to.
    no sata drives connected.
has never failed to post, boot windows and no lockups or blue screens.
ok,i am trying to get the memory to work in dual mode.
everytime i put the memory in the dual mode slots, the cpu clocks down to 1ghz instead of 2ghz.
    verified by bios,windows and cpu-id
    i have tried different memory(both ddr2 533 and 667)667 installed now.
also never had any install problems with windows and everything runs fine until i tried dual mode.
after the cpu clocks down to 1ghz,the only way to get it back to normal is a bios reset( load defaults
    or press red button).
if i leave the memory as single channel then i have no issues.
also cpu-id says the chipset for my board is nforce 550,i thought k9n platinum had 570 nforce chipset?
this might just be a problem with cpu-id though.
any thoughts on the cpu down clock problem in dual channel mode?
    thanks,jeff

1 assume you can get into BIOS with 1 stick only?
Go into the BIOS and manually set the timings and voltage to what your memory manufacturer recommends. Use a 2T command rate and see if it works.
Try both "sets" of dual channel slots, i.e. the two left slots or the two right slots.

  • P7N SLI Platinum Unstable with over 2GB ram and/or dual channel memory on.

Hello need some help or to report something to MSI regarding blue screens, freezes when booting Vista 64 (SP1 + all fixes installed) with more then 2GB ram.  Single channel mode works (either 1 stick of 2 GB or 3 sticks of 2GB) and is rock stable.  Booting with 2 x 2 or 4 x 2 yields instability and blue screens.
I read over Microsoft's hotfix KB929777 however it appears this patch was applied during SP1. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929777 - when I attempted to apply this hotfix I got the message this update does not apply to your system.
Memory tested in other gaming system using 4 sticks of G.Skill 1066 DDR2 ram and still have the same issues.  Other forums like Evga.com, Tom's hardware and 411overkill.com tend to suggest some problem with this new bios version 2.0, written by Nvidia.  Some others mention possibly an Nvidia nforce driver issue.
Therefore, under duress during testing - with 1 stick or 3 sticks of ram, all tests perfect and passes all stability tests, good marks in Sandra, plays any game.  With 2 or 4 sticks of ram, very unstable won't stay up but for seconds.
Any ideas?  (Tested 7 ways until Sunday!)
My other rig, rocks solid and stable with Vista 64....  It's the Evga new mainboard 780i with triple SLI (132-CK-NF78-A1), 8gb of Gskill 1066ddr2, MSI 8800GT (x2 sli mode) Q6600 @ 3.2 ghz - Raid 0 on dual WD caviar 640 gb/sata 3.0gb/sec.  Seasonic 700w p/s.  8gb of memory and not a hiccup.  Ram 2.0 volts, cpu @ 1.36v.  Will handle the memory from both systems with out fault.
Considering I can swap memory back and forth and confirm it's not the sticks, swap graphics boards (own 3 of them!) and rule out that....
    Fyi.  Any help is appreciated!

Dump question, but have you pickup the correct update e.g. for 64bit? ==> http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=91672C7C-614B-404C-850C-377541E93C18&displaylang=en
"This comes inside SP1 for vista 64, as noted with my other system during the build. "
    Better double check it.
Install all four memory sticks and do a memory check with >>Memtest86<< 1st, ensure that no error(s) will comes during testing.
    Also how about that?:
Quote from: BOSSKILLER on 07-April-08, 23:55:36
Remove your OC then see how its goes.
"When the system boots in single channel mode (only 2 or 6gb of ram meaning 1 or 3 sticks installed into the 4 slots) its' rock stable.  When it boots into dual channel mode (2 x 2 sticks or 2 x 4 sticks) extemely unstable. "
That means, timings are too tight, or they need a bit more vcore help, or some of the memory stick has failure.
    "MSI P7N SLI Platinum - MS-7380 - Bios 2.0 on Vista Ultimate 64-bit - all updated."
That BIOS is not for your board, you should use 1.xx

"try to put in slot 2 screen is blank."  What exactly do you mean by that statement?
Only pairs of identical memory modules will run in dual channel mode.  If you install a 2 GB module and a 4GB module they will run in single channel mode, and that only is if the system will even boot into Windows.
Only install memory in pairs of identical modules. Upgrading memory with other than that is know to produce no start or black screen results.
Only purchase guaranteed compatible memory modules in pairs from online vendors and stores. Purchasing memory that is not guaranteed compatible is nothing less than taking a gamble with your money.

  • 645 ultra - Dual Channel Memory?

Just Finished Building my system about 2 weeks ago. I was wondering if the MS-6547 is capable of running memory in dual channel mode?

    HP Deskjet 656C
    Windows XP Pro SP-1

Following great advice from initial poster to this thread  , I've finally managed an overclock my 645 ULTRA, it's only taken me a year
Full system virus scan, and clean out.
    Clean Boot,
Re-Set Ram CPU ratio down to give 266Mhz.
    Turbo Ram Timing.
    Ram Latency CL2
    Ras/Cas Normal.
Al of which I was backing off, but rightn now seems to hold up
I was able to wind the FSB up to 118Mhz, clocking me at a mear 2.85 Gig  (which for some reason is higher than 118*24)
the good thing here, is when the system did crash at 120, the bias did not re-set! which was happening in the past.
At 120 I got quite a lot of graphical artifacting, but my gcard was running hot since the air temp here is at about 25/26C with sumer approaching (don't help does it!)
Anyway, I'll be ticking off a few more tweaks tonight.
I did notice that this did NOT improve Aquamark, but added 1000 points to 3dMark2001, from taking it from 11500 to 12500. Benchmarks moving more from CPU/GPU to GPU only dependant. Codecreatures is a good bench also

  • Problem with NEO 875P FISR2 BIOS v1.8

    Hello,
I own a MSI NEO 8750 FISR2 mainboard and really like it
a lot. I just recently updated the BIOS to version 1.8
(which I obtained from MSI website). The updation went
on successfully. Windows seemed to be working fine. But
all of my 3D games became very slow. I tested the
performance under 3D Mark 2001 SE and the results had
been cut down by half! Here's the configuration of my PC:
    Intel Pentium 4 - 2.4 GHz
    MSI Mainboard NEO 875P FISR2
512 MB DDR - 266 MHz (single dimm)
    MSI Ti4800SE-VTD8X Graphics Card
Western Digital 80.0 GB UATA Hard Drive
Creative SoundBlaster Live 5.1 Sound Card
    Windows XP Service Pack 1
I re-flashed the BIOS back to version 1.7 and everything
    became fast again!
I don't know the reason for this but surely the update
doesn't suit me. Can you tell me what is it that I'm
doing wrong and whether I should stick to the old
    version.
    Regards,
    Kamran

I installed the Intel INF update both from the supplied CD and from the website. It doesn't indentify the Intel SATA controller. When I install the Intel Aplication Accelerator RAID Edition, it halts at the start of the setup and exits by displaying a message. I can't recall the message exactly, but it was something like "Chipset not supported ..." I have tried to set the mode to both Legacy and Native but still no results.
Do I need to connect a hard drive to the Intel SATA controller in order to get it detected in Windows? And while I was going through the manuals, I saw a setup menu for Intel SATA controller (similar to Promise controller) before the PC boots to the OS. It doesn't appear in my PC. The Promise menu appears and I can use the Promise controller without problems. At first I thought that either the Intel or the Promise controller can work at one time. So, I disabled the Promise controller. It was no use. It just seems to appear that the Intel controller is simply absent !
Wondering if the samething has happened to anyone else?

  • Newbie - memory advice with Neo 875P

    Hi,
Sorry if this is a stupid question but I have just bought a new MSI Neo 875P motherboard and an intel pentium 4 2.6C processor. The question i have is i no longer have the funds to buy some DDR400 memory this month so i am forced to use my existing samsung DDR 266 memory for at least a further 4 weeks.
Does anyone know what sort of impact the use of DDR266 will have on my new system (basically will it seem any faster in photoshop / games) than my existing athlon 1.4 on a KT333 motherboard. Or wether this combination of board and memory will actually work and with wnat settings?
    Thanks is advance

  • Dual channel memory mixing on a K8T Neo2

    Hey all,
I have a K8T Neo2, Winchester core 3000+ and had it running with 2 TwinMOS 512 MB-DDR400 sticks in dual-channel mode. Recently I decided to add RAM, but to invest in a more solid brand. So I bought a Corsair TWINX1024-3200C2 set and plugged it in. AFAIK the right combination in the board would be the have one set in slots 1 & 3 and the other set in 2 & 4. So far the board will only post with the Corsairs in 1 & 3 (and not with the Twinnies there). But if it posts, the clock is set to 333 MHz (which is an issue of the Winchester core I understood), but more importantly the system becomes unstable: reboots etc. Even stranger is the fact that sometimes after POST I get 8 beeps from the BIOS, which suggests that the Video RAM or framebuffer is defective. Is this somehow related to the RAM I installed? Is the framebuffer mapped to the RAM at bootup for example?
I did try to change the command rate to 2T, didn't seem to help. Bios version is 3.3 by the way. Thanks for any help.
Oh maybe the vid card specs are also relevant: Sapphire Radeon 9800 pro with 128mb. Power supply is Tagan 580W so unlikely to be the problem

Have you tested each stick of RAM with Memtest86 yet? You may have a bad stick. You also may want to try the new set in a different socket sety. Another words if it was in 2/4 then try it in 1/3. If the timings are different on the two sets try setting to the slowest settings of the two. You may have to exchange the set for the twin to the old set just to make it work as mixing RAM rarely works well.
Good idea on the memtesting, I'll do that tonight. I was afraid that the mixing wouldn't work well, but I thought at least if for each channel I used the same pair it wouldn't matter. Practice might indeed prove that as being a wrong assumption

  • Msi Z77A-GD65 (manual v2.x) dual channel memory installation Error or fix

Couple weeks ago bought a Z77A-GD65 with the manual v2.1, online version is now 2.2 (update specification). My question is that manual v2.1 shows to install the dual memory sticks in slots 1 and 3 and in manual v2.2 shows to install in slots 2 and 4. Witch one is correct?

Ye, just checked other motherboard vendors and they also use slots 2 and 4. Seems that probably that's what msi changed in latest manual version, also they could be more specific in the revision history log to avoid confusion. Anyway when I have receive the processor during the week  I will double check with aida64 and post here.
