Dual channell mem in single chanell board ??

what happens if i have a K8N Neo Platinum n250g for 734 socket board
and i use dual channel memory ? anything ?
will it help performance ?

Dual channel memory is nothing more than two identical sticks from
the same production batch .
And they are tested so they have the most possible identical read/write/latency
characteristics , and voltage tolerance.
Having two matched in a single controller board is actually a good idea for
stability . Ie when overclocking memory frequency on the system you don't
experience that one stick craps out before the other .

    • Supports four unbuffered DIMM of 1.5 Volt DDR3 800/1066/1333/1600 DRAM, 8GB Max
    • Supports two unbuffered DIMM of 1.8 Volt DDR2 667/800 DRAM, 4GB Max
With the last BIOS, it states that 4GB modules may be possible, but looking at the memory test report http://www.msi.com/file/test_report/TR10_1393.pdf  it seems this was only done for DDR2 modules, as these are the only ones reflecting this.
Suggest you check with MSI technical if the BIOS should accommodate DDR3 4GB modules as well.  >>How to contact MSI.<<
Do a CMOS clear, then once in the BIOS, set your DRAM ratio so that the DRAM is at 1066. See if that works.

  • Mac Mini (late 2012) ram upgrade: 8gb dual channel vs 10gb? Flex Mode?

I attempted to upgrade my Mac Mini (late 2012) from the stock 4gb of ram to 8gb. However, I messed up and didn't pay attention when buying the ram online and ordered 1x8gb stick rather than 2x4. Will losing dual channel with a 2/8 combo (10gb) make a difference that I will notice? Will having the additional 2gb make up for any lost performance? And finally, is flex mode available with the Mac Mini so that I'd still be running 4gb at dual channel and 6gb single?
The 8gb stick arrived and I'd like to install it but Ill send it back and get the 2x4 depending on what I hear back.
    Thanks
    Ryan

to the best of my knowledge, when upgrading your Mac mini's RAM, you must upgrade it with 2 SODIMM's at a time. When I bought my Mac mini Late 2012 model it had all the base level specs. Pretty soon the stock 4GB (2x 2GB) just wasn't fast enough. I bought a Crucial 16GB upgrade from Amazon (2x 8GB) and now my Mini is much faster especially when I am using Photoshop.
Only thing I would do next is trying to swap the boot HD to a SSD, but am unsure as my Mac mini late 2012 is under AppleCare through December 2015 and I do not know if it would void the warranty.

  • Whats Dual Channel configuration

    Hi,
Seen on some webby something about Dual Channel Ram settings for my Board .... And a screeny of 2 ram modules 1 was in the top slot the other was in the bottom slot leaving the middle empty ....

  • Single Channel Dual Channel Question, K8N Neo4 Platinum

Just putting together a machine for the Daughter. Using MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum board 7125-010, MSI NX6600GT PCIE 128 Video card with AMD64 3700 CPU SD and a 1 GB stick of Crucial dual sided memory, CT12864Z40B, DDR 400 3200. The rest of my parts arrived and just got it all together and booted into the Bios. The boot screen tells me the memory is DDR Single Cannel, 64 bit running at 3-3-8-3 and 2T timings. I have been into the Bios setup, but had let the memory boot at Auto settings. Is what I am seeing on this screen OK because there is only one stick of memory installed? Or am I just confused as normal? I was thinking it should read Dual Channel, but I am hoping that is just my backwards thinking at times. I wish all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Thanks in advance for the guidance.
    Pop's

JayBee; Thank you very much for the quick response. The Daughter decided to go with the 1GB stick to begin with so as to possibly add another 1GB stick later. I don't think she will need it myself, judging by her computer use. She does no gaming or multi-tasking, so there probably will be no need to add more memory in the future. I was just wondering if there is any noticable performance hit by using a single stick vs a pair of matched 512's?? I used the same MB as in my sig, but noticed the new one has an upgraded BIOS. I hope it is an improvement, because I have yet had no problems with my machine which has the V1.6 BIOS. This new one which is about 2 months newer than mine has a BIOS V1.A in the bios screen. At bootup it is identified as ( 6A61FM49C-OO ) what ever that means. I read the forum daily and have noticed you are very active and consice in helping folks out. I very much appreciate your time and effort that you give freely. Hope you have a very safe and happy holiday season and SANTA is very good to you. I think we as a group need to get SANTA up to speed on gift giving in the computer upgrade department.

  • Dual channel + single channel.

I have two sticks of 256mb pc2700 RAM on my board now, and was wondering if I ordered one stick of 512, to total 1 gig would it hinder my performance? Since I have 2x256 in dual channel. Or would getting one more stick of 256 be better? I only have 3 slots on my board.  How would I arrange them? I read the manual, but people are telling me different things.
    Specs:
    MSI K7N2 Delta-ILSR
    AMD 2500 xp
    Mushkin 2 x's 256MB PC2700 (5-2-2-2)
    MSI ti4200 64mb
    WD 80GB 8MB Cache HDD
    PSU 420 watt
    4x 80mm fans
    XP Home

Whoever told you that is on drugs and should be b*i*t*c*h slapped...on my -ILSR board I have 2 sticks of 256mb in 1&2 and a 512mb stick in slot 3 and when I boot up it does utilize dual channel mode...I tested this thoroughly back a while ago with different combinations and the results I got were clearly that it is enabled the way I had it...when I put the 512 and a 256 in 1&2 and a 256 in 3 then it disabled the dual channel...
My ASUS board does the same thing and says that Dual Channel is enabled in the same config at the boot screen...when I did the mixed test then it said that it was disabled.
So I don't know who you talked to but I wouldn't doubt if it was the same guy that either works on this forum or the guy that wrote the code for the temperature reading of the BIOS heheheh
    Cheers!! 8)

  • Socket 754 boards don't support dual channel?

my motherboard listed below does not support dual channel? i thought it did =[ I just bought some corsair xms 3200 DC 2x512 sticks to replace my 1x512 mushkin. Should I leave in the mushkin with my xms?
btw if it matters.. im not OCing, and my psu sucks..

sorry about the IM i was taking a nap LOL, anyway if you want more ram go ahead and mix them as the dual channel wont matter for you.  Yes you would need a new Mobo and socket 939 cpu to get diual channel

  • K7N2 delta thermal sensor / dual channel

    Hi all.
I was wondering for what purpose my k7n2 delta ilsr has a thermal sensor (tape sensor) underneath the CPU, right in the middle of the socket... shouldn't the board read the temps directly from the CPU diode? Anyone knows?
I have also seen an interesting thing... I had 2 sticks of 512mb kingston in that board, in dual channel mode and last week I ran doom3's timedemo demo1, and I noticed that I got a 10fps lower result than those I had earlier, when I was running single channel with only one stick.. so I pulled the second stick out and installed it in the other dimm (didn't change anything in BIOS), wich uses the same mem controller that the first and ran timedemo again... As you might guess i got about 10fps more than the previous result    I went searching it and i did find one article confirming this - http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=10384 And a LOT more saying the contrarylike this one! http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/nforce2-1vs2channels/
I found some potential explanations but I think 10fps is still a lot for those explanations, besides nVidia sold this as a high-end feature on this chipset... what the hell???

The modules are kvr400x64c25/512, and they are at default timmings. I´ve been using one of them for about 1 year and it works perfectly. The other one is recent but it works flawlessly too. Howerver when they're together this thing happens. I'm not sure if this is a problem with the modules/kingston because it's so weird. I can't find any logical explanation, I'll keep looking... As you say Stu, kingston is a hit or miss, but hit and miss at the same time is strange. I'll do some research on those mushkin/crucial modules. Thanks.
They are not matched... Ill bet 1000 dollars that is why
Kingston absolutely requires the sticks be purchased in their "DUAL CHANNEL" (2 stick) package. I already went through that with Kingston a year ago with the K7N2-D2-P

  • No post in dual channel

I just put together my new system after my last system died...
    Specs:
    Neo2 Platinum
    Athlon64 3200+
    Nvidia 6800
2x256 Corsair 3200c2pt (not twinx matched)
    antec 400w psu
The system will run fine in single channel mode, with ram in both dimm 1 and 3. Or with either stick of ram by itself in dimm 1.
My only problem is that I cannot get the system to post if I try dual channel mode.  I have flashed the bios to beta 1.51. I tried to boot the system with relaxed timings, increased voltage, memory in both dimm 1 and 2, also memory in dimm 3 and 4. I followed most of the solutions offered by people on this board, but nothing has seemed to work so far.  Dbracket will hang with the #2 light as green.
I also tried swapping in some old crucial ram I have running in an old system, ddr 266, but it also will not post in dual channel.  Again even this ram will post in single channel mode.
Should I try to buy new ram?  Or is RMA'ing the board my only option?  Any insights or help would be appreciated.
    Thx,
    -R

Thanks for the replies guys.  I will try to adjust the memory timings again and see if it helps.
Single channel I can run default mem voltage, no probs...  However I did try to post in dual channel with mem voltage set at 2.7 and that did not work.

  • K9N PLATINUM(NON SLI) DUAL CHANNEL MODE PROBLEM

    hi
put a new system together with the following specs:
    amd am2 3800+(2ghz)
    k9n platinum 1.20 bios
    2x512 kingston ddr2(667mhz)
pci video(yes not pci-e)have not decided which vid card to get yet.
    500w  psu 12v 35a,5v 25a,3.3v 25a
    liteon dvd burner
seagate 300gb ide  7200/16 meg cache windows xp-pro sp2 with all updates.
not overclocking or even trying to.
    no sata drives connected.
has never failed to post, boot windows and no lockups or blue screens.
ok,i am trying to get the memory to work in dual mode.
everytime i put the memory in the dual mode slots, the cpu clocks down to 1ghz instead of 2ghz.
    verified by bios,windows and cpu-id
    i have tried different memory(both ddr2 533 and 667)667 installed now.
also never had any install problems with windows and everything runs fine until i tried dual mode.
after the cpu clocks down to 1ghz,the only way to get it back to normal is a bios reset( load defaults
    or press red button).
if i leave the memory as single channel then i have no issues.
also cpu-id says the chipset for my board is nforce 550,i thought k9n platinum had 570 nforce chipset?
this might just be a problem with cpu-id though.
any thoughts on the cpu down clock problem in dual channel mode?
    thanks,jeff

1 assume you can get into BIOS with 1 stick only?
Go into the BIOS and manually set the timings and voltage to what your memory manufacturer recommends. Use a 2T command rate and see if it works.
Try both "sets" of dual channel slots, i.e. the two left slots or the two right slots.

  • P7N SLI Platinum Unstable with over 2GB ram and/or dual channel memory on.

Hello need some help or to report something to MSI regarding blue screens, freezes when booting Vista 64 (SP1 + all fixes installed) with more then 2GB ram.  Single channel mode works (either 1 stick of 2 GB or 3 sticks of 2GB) and is rock stable.  Booting with 2 x 2 or 4 x 2 yields instability and blue screens.
I read over Microsoft's hotfix KB929777 however it appears this patch was applied during SP1. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929777 - when I attempted to apply this hotfix I got the message this update does not apply to your system.
Memory tested in other gaming system using 4 sticks of G.Skill 1066 DDR2 ram and still have the same issues.  Other forums like Evga.com, Tom's hardware and 411overkill.com tend to suggest some problem with this new bios version 2.0, written by Nvidia.  Some others mention possibly an Nvidia nforce driver issue.
Therefore, under duress during testing - with 1 stick or 3 sticks of ram, all tests perfect and passes all stability tests, good marks in Sandra, plays any game.  With 2 or 4 sticks of ram, very unstable won't stay up but for seconds.
Any ideas?  (Tested 7 ways until Sunday!)
My other rig, rocks solid and stable with Vista 64....  It's the Evga new mainboard 780i with triple SLI (132-CK-NF78-A1), 8gb of Gskill 1066ddr2, MSI 8800GT (x2 sli mode) Q6600 @ 3.2 ghz - Raid 0 on dual WD caviar 640 gb/sata 3.0gb/sec.  Seasonic 700w p/s.  8gb of memory and not a hiccup.  Ram 2.0 volts, cpu @ 1.36v.  Will handle the memory from both systems with out fault.
Considering I can swap memory back and forth and confirm it's not the sticks, swap graphics boards (own 3 of them!) and rule out that....
    Fyi.  Any help is appreciated!

Dump question, but have you pickup the correct update e.g. for 64bit? ==> http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=91672C7C-614B-404C-850C-377541E93C18&displaylang=en
"This comes inside SP1 for vista 64, as noted with my other system during the build. "
    Better double check it.
Install all four memory sticks and do a memory check with >>Memtest86<< 1st, ensure that no error(s) will comes during testing.
    Also how about that?:
Quote from: BOSSKILLER on 07-April-08, 23:55:36
Remove your OC then see how its goes.
"When the system boots in single channel mode (only 2 or 6gb of ram meaning 1 or 3 sticks installed into the 4 slots) its' rock stable.  When it boots into dual channel mode (2 x 2 sticks or 2 x 4 sticks) extemely unstable. "
That means, timings are too tight, or they need a bit more vcore help, or some of the memory stick has failure.
    "MSI P7N SLI Platinum - MS-7380 - Bios 2.0 on Vista Ultimate 64-bit - all updated."
That BIOS is not for your board, you should use 1.xx

  • My dual channel doesn´t Work :S

I have this Ram ->Kingston KVR400X64C3AK1/1G (2 x 1 modules 512 mb), and if i put the two modules enabling the dual channel, putting 1 onto 2nd channel and 1 onto 3rd channel mi pc goes down while i´m in windows, it´s restarts once and once again, 1 minute left or 1 minute before, it´s random but it crashes. I tried to configure the memory modules in a single channel, and it works.
How can i make to work my pc in dual channel?
thxs for your time, and sorry ofr my english i´m spanish
    ag3r

Not really. Adding an extra 512mb of ram to my machine helped with framerates and stuff, but loading UT2004 Assault maps with dual channel PC2100 memory was just as slow as it was with single channel. It's only 3 to 5 percent and not worth the extra time/money for him, IMO. I never would have done it had I known there was no performance gain, I would have instead sold my 512mb DIMM, lived without my comp for a few days and then put the money towards a 1gb DIMM. :D
I often wonder why AMD board manufacturers even bother wasting their time and money putting dual channel on their athlon xp mobos. Even Athlon 64's that are not FX chips don't take advantage of dual channel.

  • How to Enable Dual Channel?

    Hi,
I have an MSI K8N Neo Plat, with a Newcastle 3200+ cpu, and two sticks of Kingstone DDR-SDRAM PC3500 - 256Mb.
Anyway, according to CPU-Z the memory is running in single channel mode...
Is there any way to get it to run dual channel?
I've tried it in slots 1&2, 1&3 and 2&3, but all report single channel.
The CPU and board are not overclocked in any way, and it is running stable and has no other issues (aside from the incorrectly reported CPU temperature).
    Thanks for you help...

Ok, I'm probably just getting DDR and Dual Channel mixed up
    So, on bootup it reports...
    DDR400 Memory Clock : 200Mhz
    TCL:2 Trcd:3 Tras:8 Trp:3 (1T Timing)
Which is what should be expected for this kind of ram on this board?
(I know 1T and TCL:2 are both good values, I presume the DDR memory clock at 200 gives a 400Mhz throughput?)
Also If I were to add a 512Mb stick into this would it still run at DDR400?
    Thanks....

  • Diamond Plus (7220) & Dual Channel

    Help!
I  can't get dual channel working in my Diamond Plus.I have tried 3 different bios, 4 different dual channel kits, and three different cpus and I cannot get this thing to do dual channel. Any time I put memory in slots 1-2 or 3-4 (MSI's dual channel config), the machine refuses to boot, but if I put them in 1-3 or 2-4 the machine boots fine, but single channel. Tried setting the timing manually, tried setting everything to auto. Nothing seems to work.
    Tried the following:
    3 Different Bios (1.0, 1.19 & 3.0a (the beta one)
1 GB kits from OCZ, Corssair, GSkill, Crucial. (all worked fine in an MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum)
    Thanks in advance!
P.S. I am only worried about getting 2x512 working in dual channel @ 400 @ 1T, I am not trying to fill all four dimm slots.

Can you try with a different videocard? Like some old PCI one?
I say this because you have a Dual-rail PSU with 20+18A @ 12V....it could happen that's not enough to power your system if it's not good devided over the rails.
See what happens if you use a less power videocard.
And also, DO try with another CPU if you have it around, the memory is controlled by the CPU, not the board, so if you have a bad CPU, that could cause it too.
BTW, why do you use AS5 on these CPU's? The paste on these CPU's hardly matter because of the heat-spreader.
I am running a more power-hungry setup on the same PSU without probs.......
I think there is a prob with the board........but before you do.........
Run memtest for 30mins for each working RAM config to see if there are any errors.....it may reveal something!!
Other than that mate, I am out of ideas and recommend and RMA!! Sorry
