Dual Disc CD/DVD?

I've purchased NIN- White Teeth in Dual Disc format.
http://www.dualdisc.com/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DualDisc
Dual Disc is essentially a DVD which plays as a CD on one side and a DVD on the other.
Unfortunately my Powerbook won't recognize the CD side and simply self ejects after a few attempts to read it. The DVD side works perfectly.
How do I extract the CD tracks to upload into iTunes?
Has anyone else had the same problem w/ DualDisc technology?

I have to agree with macmenno on this one. I would also say that your chances of success may be better on a desktop PC with a good drive than on a desktop Mac--many Macs in general seem to have trouble coping with DualDiscs.
By the way, I can't resist commenting on the title of your DualDisc; my own copy is called With Teeth (sold in Finland as a normal audio CD), whereas yours is White Teeth. Is that the kinder, gentler version?

  • Importing/converting DVD-Audio/Dual Discs

Hello, this is my first post.
I just got the 30 GB Video Ipod today.
I am not having any luck with iTunes importing and converting my dvd-audio/dual discs.
The CD side gets recognized by iTunes but sounds VERY scratchy when it is converted to a format to put on my ipod. Strangely, it also sounds scratchy when I play it on windows media player or any other software player. It also goes silent for a bit sometimes. But it plays fine outside of my computer (e.g. my car) and it isnt scratched.
I flipped it over to the DVD side and iTunes doesn't recognize it so I can't import and convert it. The DVD side sounds fine though when I play the audio on my computer or on an outside player (e.g. my car).
Is there anything I can do?

  • Why won't my Mac recognize Verbatim Dual Layer blank DVDs?

Why won't my Mac recognize Verbatim Dual Layer blank DVDs?
I've just completed a 140 minute project in FCP. I've encoded an MPEG2 file that is 5.75GB in size. Brought into DVDSP and am trying to burn the DVD.
I have Final Cut Studio 1, latest updates and everything.
Because of the 5.75GB size I need to burn to Dual Layer DVD. I have Verbatim 4x 8.56GB dual layer DVDs.
When I click buld/burn and pop in a dual layer DVD I get an error saying "please insert compatible disc".
Even with every app closed. If I put one of these DVDs in my Mac it simply spits it out after about 20 seconds.
For some reason the Mac won't handle or understand these Dual Layer DVDs.
I bought this Mac Pro about 4 months ago and it is the 2 x 2.66Ghz Dual Core Intel Xeon machine and the DVD drive (according to system profiler) is a Pioneer DVD-RW DVD-111D. In system profiler it says "Pioneer DVD-RW DVD-111D"
Can anyone tell me if this DVD player is actually capable of dual layer, or do I need to buy one.
In System Profiler under Revision it says: AB09 and under Protocol it says: ATAPI
    Can anyone advise please?

If you have access to a pc into which you can install the 112, or if you have bootcamp, you can replace the Apple supplied firmware with Pioneer firmware. This should restore full functionality to the drive. The latest Pioneer firmware for the drive is version 1.21 and can be found here: http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Firmware/SingleModel.aspx?DriveId=1426

  • Dual Disc-ITUNES issues

Hi! Could someone possibly tell me what I'm doing wrong here? I have a dual disc cd (the cd/dvd discs) and am trying to figure out why it is that ITUNES isn't recognizing the disc. I have tried taking the disc out then putting it back in, restarting Itunes, and was wondering if anyone could tell me what I'm doing wrong. I know I am not great with a computer, but I didn't think I was THAT ********...
    Thanks,
    R

Ok, obvious question first. You are asking iTunes to recognize the cd side and not the dvd side aren't you? Do you have a dvd drive you can try?
Are your normal cds recognized ok? I don't have any of these dual discs, but I have read in some audio publications that there are a few problems with these discs not being read in audio cd players either (and some high end ones at that).
I should also point out that you'd get a better response to this question if you posted in the iTunes forum.

  • Trouble Importing Music on Dual Disc

I can load all other CDs, but can't import music from the CD side of the Dual Discs.
    Please help.
    Thanks.

The non-DVD side of DualDiscs does not meet CD Red Book specifications and it sounds like that might be the cause of your problem.
A search via Google should turn up lots of information.

  • Is Encore CS5 capable of burning BD5/9 discs on DVD-+r discs?

    hello,
is Encore CS5 capable of burning BD5/9 discs on DVD-+r discs?
i mostly burn FULL HD AVCHD music videos which are only 3-5 minutes.
i don't want to waste BD media for only 3-4 minutes.
if Encore does do BD5/9 discs, is there a preset for it
or do you just burn the Blu-ray project onto a DVD-+r disc?
Any help / advice is appreciated
    thanks,
    jeffrey

    good morning John,
    thanks for your answer
it confirms the answers i received in the hardware forum
with the same type of question
    build the project in Encore
use ImgBurn to burn onto a regular dvd
i was going to try last night
but fell asleep from a long week of work
got the coffee machine already brewing now
so hopefully it will be a productive day...
    thanks again,

Can I restore my system from install discs when DVD is not working?
There is a disc jammed in the drive and when I try to do an install in Target Firewire mode using a G5 Tower I get an error saying the software cannot be installed on this machine, before I can even select the iMac's drive. I'm using the grey software install discs that came with the iMac.
Is my only option to open up the iMac and get the jammed disc out?
    Thanks

Problem solved - I posted on the general Tiger Discussions as well.
I had the wrong machine started in Target Firewire mode.

My project is set up with "rotation" menu intro, video, and then "rotation" on end, however, when you put DVD disc in DVD player, menu does not come up on front end, it goes straight to the video.  Is there some step I am missing?

Open your iDVD project and go into the Map mode.  Made sure the autostart bin on the left is empty.
If you find a video in that bin remove it, save the project as a disk image and check the disk image with DVD Player.  Then you can burn the disk image to disk with Disk Utilitiy at 4x for optimal burning.

  • Burning a Dual Layer Disc through DVD studio pro

    Formating failed
The recording device reported the not ready error: Cannot write medium-incompatible format (0x30, 0x50)
I need to know what is going on. I tried to burn a DVD studio completed project on a dual layer disc on my mac (which has dual layer capablities) and kept getting this message. I think it is the disc itself but don't have a clue what I am doing wrong.
I have been able to burn the video TS (etc) files to the desktop completely but when I try to burn to the DVD I get this error message.
    Can you help.
    Thanks
    Susan

    Which burner do you have?
What type of media? DVD+R DL or DVD-R DL? Brand?
Is your DVD Studio Pro project set as dual layer?

  • Creating recovery disc using DVD vs using USB

I wanted to upgrade to SSD
a crucial m500 to be exact.
    I'm using windows 8
    Lenovo T430
But an attempt to create recovery media, I was told I needed a usb of at least 16gb before continuing.
I personally do not have a spare 16gb thumbdrive lying around
address : create a recovery drive, The screen which says "the drive must be able to hold 16gb, and everything on the drive will be deleted.
and I find it such a waste to use a hard disk to use it as a recovery media considering the fact that all data on it has to be erased and I cant really use it for other purpose
so I  google in attempt to try and create recovery drive using dvd disc
    recdisc.exe
my question is that would I be able to restore the same original settings and applications as when I bought it when using the recdisc.exe method??
will all the default Lenovo applications be still present??

If it's like most of the recent ones I have seen it would normally require 3 regular DVD disks.  Recovery 1, Recovery 2, and Drivers and Applications Disk 2.  If you use Dual Layer it will put Recovery 1 and Recovery 2 on one DL disk and the Drivers and Applications on Disk 2, but it should give you the option of recording it to a standard DVD.  You can determine how many regular disks it would take by selecting the Regular Disk option prior to creating the disks and it shoud tell you 3.
I'm betting that when you check the first disk you will find that it has about 6.5 to 7gb of data on it and the drivers disk has about 3gig, more than what would fit on a single D/L dsk.  I know that my L305-S5933 is like that and I can't imagine that your's would be that much different.
Addendum:  I just checked my 3 disks and they are as follows
    Recovery Disk 1 - 4.3 GB
    Recovery Disk 2 - 2.77 GB
Drivers and Applications Disk 3 - 2.1 GB
That totals 9.17 GB more than the capacity of a single D/L disk.
Plus I believe that Chris hit the nail on the head of their wanting to keep the actual Recovery Disk(s) seperate from the Drivers & Applications disk.

If I put a DVD in the tray the DVD player launches and the DVD window is completely screwed up. It perspective is screwy and the image is mangled as well. It also stall my OS so I get the spinning beach ball of death. To get a DVD to load I have to put it in the drive and then do a crash restart using the power button.
    What gives? Any ideas?

  • New Hard Drive and trying to reinstall OS. Have Hp Recovery Discs but DVD drive broke

    Hi to all,
I just put a new hard drive in my HP Dv7. I also ordered recovery discs. When I tried to put the disc in I then found out my  DVD drive is not working
My question is can I transfer the recovery disc to a USB flash drive and then boot from there?
    I would appreciate any insight!!
    Thank you in advance,
    Marc

You cannot copy from recovery DVD to USB.
What is the problem with the drive, do you have a boot DVD to try?
