Dual Disc-ITUNES issues

Hi! Could someone possibly tell me what I'm doing wrong here? I have a dual disc cd (the cd/dvd discs) and am trying to figure out why it is that ITUNES isn't recognizing the disc. I have tried taking the disc out then putting it back in, restarting Itunes, and was wondering if anyone could tell me what I'm doing wrong. I know I am not great with a computer, but I didn't think I was THAT ********...
Thanks,
R

Ok, obvious question first. You are asking iTunes to recognize the cd side and not the dvd side aren't you? Do you have a dvd drive you can try?
Are your normal cds recognized ok? I don't have any of these dual discs, but I have read in some audio publications that there are a few problems with these discs not being read in audio cd players either (and some high end ones at that).
I should also point out that you'd get a better response to this question if you posted in the iTunes forum.

  • Importing/converting DVD-Audio/Dual Discs

Hello, this is my first post.
I just got the 30 GB Video Ipod today.
I am not having any luck with iTunes importing and converting my dvd-audio/dual discs.
The CD side gets recognized by iTunes but sounds VERY scratchy when it is converted to a format to put on my ipod. Strangely, it also sounds scratchy when I play it on windows media player or any other software player. It also goes silent for a bit sometimes. But it plays fine outside of my computer (e.g. my car) and it isnt scratched.
I flipped it over to the DVD side and iTunes doesn't recognize it so I can't import and convert it. The DVD side sounds fine though when I play the audio on my computer or on an outside player (e.g. my car).
Is there anything I can do?

  • IPhoto and iTunes issues.

    Good Afternoon Everyone,
I am having some problems with my iPhoto at the moment. I have over 15,000 images in the library, and they all appear in thumbnail format under their respective dates, however when I double click on any image between roughly image 6942 and 12428 to enlarge it and look at it on full screen, a blank window is all I see, there isn't even a thumbnail of it where it should appear in full size.
Can anyone suggest what I could do to rectify this problem?
I have archive and installed the original OS X discs, as suggested by an apple store rep and it hasnt fixed the problem.
Also now iTunes gives me an error msg when I try to run it saying that it will not run with this version of OS after the reinstall. Previously, iTunes would not connect to the apple store either, and would not find the CCDB info when importing a new CD, and he also told me that an arch and inst would fix this.
Maybe a couple of probs here, but the iPhoto is the most pressing I guess.
I would appreciate any suggestions or knowledge!
    Cheers Trent.

Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). A Finder Window should open with the file selected. Does it?
As to the iTunes issue, best to pop that one over to the iTunes forum:

  • Dual Disc CD/DVD?

I've purchased NIN- White Teeth in Dual Disc format.
    http://www.dualdisc.com/
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DualDisc
Dual Disc is essentially a DVD which plays as a CD on one side and a DVD on the other.
Unfortunately my Powerbook won't recognize the CD side and simply self ejects after a few attempts to read it. The DVD side works perfectly.
How do I extract the CD tracks to upload into iTunes?
Has anyone else had the same problem w/ DualDisc technology?

I have to agree with macmenno on this one. I would also say that your chances of success may be better on a desktop PC with a good drive than on a desktop Mac--many Macs in general seem to have trouble coping with DualDiscs.
By the way, I can't resist commenting on the title of your DualDisc; my own copy is called With Teeth (sold in Finland as a normal audio CD), whereas yours is White Teeth. Is that the kinder, gentler version?

    3. Install another app from the App Store
If all user-installed apps are not launching, it could be an Apple ID authorization issue. Download and install an app that isn't already installed on your device to reset this information.

  • Ipod Nano skipping songs... IPod or ITunes issue?

I purchased an IPod Nano and signed up for ITunes. I purchased a CD from ITunes and synced it with my IPod. That worked fine except for one huge issue - the IPod skips right over 5 out of the 12 songs on the CD! The songs play fine through my computer (Windows XP Pro SP2), just not on the IPod.
Is this an IPod issue or an ITunes issue? Has anyone dealt with this before?

  • New software update still not downloading.  Apps updates have all downloaded since iTunes issue resolved.  Is the software issue also related to this, or is there another problem?  This is on my iPhone 6, not my Mac.

Trying to download the iOS 8.2 software update on my iPhone 6, but it won't update.  All app updates have resolved since the iTunes issue was resolved.  Is the software update issue related to this as well, or is it another problem entirely?
I've synced it to iTunes, turned it off/on, etc., but still not downloading.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi DebC64,
So is the iOS 8.2 update not downloading to your iPhone, computer or both?
You have synced it to iTunes, that is an option to update if it's not updating wirelessly.  Please see if other steps help.

  • Trouble Importing Music on Dual Disc

I can load all other CDs, but can't import music from the CD side of the Dual Discs.
    Please help.
    Thanks.

The non-DVD side of DualDiscs does not meet CD Red Book specifications and it sounds like that might be the cause of your problem.
A search via Google should turn up lots of information.

if your computer is not recognizing it, try using a different USB port or different usb cable. if that doesnt work you will need to uninstall and reinstall itunes.

My playlist has dissapeared from libraray itunes issue or windows problem?

    Hi,
It's pointless to use that ammount of ram under Win9x/Me as it will be slower then if you use only 256MB witch is the optimal ammount for these OS'ses.
So you better take 256 out or move to Win2000/XP....

  • Time Capsule (Dual Band), iTunes and tv

    Here is my little story.
I had an airport extreme, with a usb disk holding my iTunes library. I run two tv's (wirelessly) and things were fine. At times iTunes would give me a spinning beach ball, but streaming tv shows and movies to the tv,s worked well.
    Then came 7.4.1 (airport extreme)
Streaming tv or movies became impossible with tv re buffering every 30 secs.
Downgrading to 7.3.x fixed the problem.
Being an apple tragic and living 650 klm's from my wife and children, I convinced myself that I needed a new toy, so of to the apple shop (150 klm's away) to get the new dual band extreme. I didn't even think of the firmware issue, thinking the new one would just work!!!
Somehow I left the store with a shiny new 1TB TC (blast apple)
Well of course after waiting 6 hours for my itunes library to transfer to TC, I fired up the tv and set about watching an episode of Damages.
Unfortunately the TC and firmware version 7.4 (shipping firmware) was as bad as the external disc and the airport extreme on 7.4.1
I upgraded the TC firmware to 7.4.1, there is no before 7.4, blindly think this might fix things, but no luck.
I reverted to plugging in the usb disk and running iTunes via the TC to the usb drive, again no luck, stop start streaming.
I then plugged the usb disk into my laptop and surprises surprise, streaming via network to tv was flawless, like my good old days.
Not a long term solution, I have spent two days reading all the posts on 7.4.1, TC and tv.
Tonight I hooked up the extreme, connected it via cable to the TC, turned off the extreme radio and plugged the usb disk in to the extreme. the extreme is running 7.3.x.
Pointed iTunes to the library on the usb disk, sat down and watched the episode of Damages.
Amazingly this arrangement works, and streaming is smooth.
Now I am no tech wizard, but something is clearly amiss with 7.4.1 and disks.
If anyone knows away to get the TC playing nice with streaming to the tv then it would be nice to hear, otherwise ebay will have to wait for the old extreme!
Anyway just wanted to share, after many frustrating hours.

Good post thanks for that. I agree something is wrong with 7.4.1 on both extreme and express as well. I had a lot of problems extending my network and only managed to fix things by reverting back to 7.3.x
I'm planning no getting TC and appletv soon, so l'm hoping the a revised software update emerges before then. It looks like you've had some real dramas.
    Good luck.

  • Ibook dual usb video issue

hi, i have a dual usb 600mhz ibook g3, the video is screwy you can still make out items on screen, this happens only when booted into the operating system, during bootup the apple logo and grey screen are fine and during target disk mode the firewire logo moves around all perfectly fine, so cant be a hardware issue? ive played with the system prefs and nothing, anyone got any ideas, thanks in advance

You could try booting into Safe Mode. This will take quite awhile longer than a normal startup because it does a file check and repair of the hard disk.
You will see your normal desktop. Once completely started up in Safe Mode, restart normally, and go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility.
Select the named boot volume in the left sidebar ("Macintosh HD" unless you've renamed it). Repair permissions on it.
See if a little hard drive maintenance helps things out.
If that doesn't help, can you set up a new user and log out and log back in as the new user in order to see whether it may be a preference problem with your user account?
Do you have the Mac OS X 10.4 Install disc and is it readable by the iBook?

  • Dying to buy iMac ... disc scratching issue scaring me off

Hi, tossing this question out here, also have done so in other forums. I need to replace our main desktop computer at home. It's a PC. However, I've used a Mac for about 17 years or so at work, currently a 27-inch 2.66 ghz Intel Core i5 iMac, so I have knowledge of "both universes."
I'm dying to get an iMac for home use, the 21.5-inch model (that will suit my needs at home, don't need a 27). I don't think PCs are crap, I just like Macs better and would like to totally dive into the Mac pool and be in the same universe both at home and on the job. I've been telling my wife, whose only computer experience has been with PCs and has been resistant to make the change, for years that if she ever got her hands on a Mac, she'd never go back, and she's finally amenable to trying.
I've been shopping around and had about decided on a refurb from the Apple Store ... when I came across the issue of the superdrives in iMacs scratching discs. And, on reflection, I think it's happened a few times with my iMac at work. I've brought some personal discs to put things on iTunes and later noticed scratches on the discs, and I'm quite anal about keeping discs in pristine condition.
I know I'm a Luddite in the era of "the cloud," and that probably within a decade or so recordable media like CD-Rs and DVD-Rs are going to be about like VHS. But in the here and now, in my personal computer usage at home, I still do an incredible amount of disc usage and disc burning.
I do to the point where this is scaring me off, because having the drive scratch discs really is a deal killer for me. I've read the stuff at various forums about how you have to take the discs out just a certain way, but the human reality is you're not going to do that 10 times out of 10 (plus other people, including kids, would be using this computer at one point or another and it will be impossible to guarantee that they do it right 10 out of 10 either). I've read about people taping up the slot and using a Dremel to burr the aluminum down, but I'm not inclined to do that to something I'm going to spend so much loot on. I'm also not inclined to spend that much on a computer and plug an external burner drive into it.
This is my question ... this issue apparently was very prevalent on the 2010 iMacs. I've gotten mixed information on whether it was fixed in the 2011 iMacs (most of the refurbs available at the Apple Store are 2011 models). Would I be less prone to have this issue by spending a little extra and buying a new, recent production iMac as opposed to a refurb?
I know I seem to be dwelling on an issue that might be inconsequential to some folks, given the other advantages to a Mac. But again, I use recordable media so much, and some of the things I have on recordable media that I often insert into my computer to do things with are so irreplaceable, to where really any chance of this issue happening is, as I said, a deal killer.
Thanks in advance for any help.

My late 2009 21.5 scratches discs. There's a long thread about this. The sharp rear facing metal edge of the slot seems to be responsible. Even inserting a disc with extreme care, keeping the label side as much as possible towards the front, doesn't always prevent this from happening. But maybe the current models fixed this. Don't know.

  • Multiple Startup Discs- fixable issue?

I recently let my sister take a crack at installing Leopard for me. She did fine on her machine, but chose the wrong target disc when installing on my machine. I have the original 100GB drive and had recently installed an additional 250GB drive in my Powerbook. So I found that I had Leopard installed on the wrong drive, and she had entered all the account information for my old account.
I figured I could just install in on the 100 and then go back and delete the system folders on the 250, but whenever I try to use the 100 as a startup disc, it goes through the gray loading screen, then turns to blue, and gets stuck for hours. Since all of my account information is set up for this smaller disc, I don't want to transfer it over; it's a 7200rpm as apposed to the 5400 of the larger drive, so I want the OS installed there.
Anyone know what the issue here is? I could try the special Leopard install option of partitioning off the "old" OS (which is actually now Leopard, but dysfunctional) and making a fresh install with all of the accounts and preferences brought into it. However, this requires more disc space than is left on that particular disc, so I haven't bothered to try yet.
I can still access my files on the 100, but not all of my settings. Applications that are only on the 100 drive can still be launched, so I would tend to think the problem occurs when the OS starts up. I've tried to choose my startup disc via SysPerfs->Startup Disc->Restart, and by holding down option upon startup and then selecting which disc to use, but both methods produce the same result- blue screen on the 100, and Leopard functioning on the 250.
Any clue what's going on here? What steps should I take. How would I go about a clean deletion of Leopard from the 250 disc?

I'll put my dad's input in here, and let you pros tell me what it might be. He has said that when he's installed an OS on a system with multiple drives in the past that the OS (in that case, Linux) by mistake, installed portions of the system on both drives instead of one. This caused similar symptoms to what I'm experiencing.
His suggestions was to take out the second drive create a copy of the first, wipe and do a clean install on the original drive, and then reimport the settings and accounts since Leopard has that nice Migration Assistant.
The issue with this is, things like my Aperture photo library and iTunes Music Library are stored on the second disc and the first references them there. I don't know if the install will have issues with this. Since it'll take me a while to get my hands on a stat-mat and a drive I can copy the 100gb drive to to, I would really like to find a different solution.
Anyone have a different take on this situation? a different solution?
