  • Dual Disc-ITUNES issues

Hi! Could someone possibly tell me what I'm doing wrong here? I have a dual disc cd (the cd/dvd discs) and am trying to figure out why it is that ITUNES isn't recognizing the disc. I have tried taking the disc out then putting it back in, restarting Itunes, and was wondering if anyone could tell me what I'm doing wrong. I know I am not great with a computer, but I didn't think I was THAT ********...
    Thanks,
    R

Ok, obvious question first. You are asking iTunes to recognize the cd side and not the dvd side aren't you? Do you have a dvd drive you can try?
Are your normal cds recognized ok? I don't have any of these dual discs, but I have read in some audio publications that there are a few problems with these discs not being read in audio cd players either (and some high end ones at that).
I should also point out that you'd get a better response to this question if you posted in the iTunes forum.

  • Importing/converting DVD-Audio/Dual Discs

Hello, this is my first post.
I just got the 30 GB Video Ipod today.
I am not having any luck with iTunes importing and converting my dvd-audio/dual discs.
The CD side gets recognized by iTunes but sounds VERY scratchy when it is converted to a format to put on my ipod. Strangely, it also sounds scratchy when I play it on windows media player or any other software player. It also goes silent for a bit sometimes. But it plays fine outside of my computer (e.g. my car) and it isnt scratched.
I flipped it over to the DVD side and iTunes doesn't recognize it so I can't import and convert it. The DVD side sounds fine though when I play the audio on my computer or on an outside player (e.g. my car).
Is there anything I can do?

  • Trouble Importing Music on Dual Disc

I can load all other CDs, but can't import music from the CD side of the Dual Discs.
    Please help.
    Thanks.

The non-DVD side of DualDiscs does not meet CD Red Book specifications and it sounds like that might be the cause of your problem.
A search via Google should turn up lots of information.
Here are a couple of links to get you started:

  • Dual Disc CD/DVD?

I've purchased NIN- White Teeth in Dual Disc format.
    http://www.dualdisc.com/
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DualDisc
Dual Disc is essentially a DVD which plays as a CD on one side and a DVD on the other.
Unfortunately my Powerbook won't recognize the CD side and simply self ejects after a few attempts to read it. The DVD side works perfectly.
How do I extract the CD tracks to upload into iTunes?
Has anyone else had the same problem w/ DualDisc technology?

I have to agree with macmenno on this one. I would also say that your chances of success may be better on a desktop PC with a good drive than on a desktop Mac--many Macs in general seem to have trouble coping with DualDiscs.
By the way, I can't resist commenting on the title of your DualDisc; my own copy is called With Teeth (sold in Finland as a normal audio CD), whereas yours is White Teeth. Is that the kinder, gentler version?

  • Dual disc problem

i got this new CD and it's dual sided. I tried to load it into itunes, but nothing happened. on the reverse, you could watch videos. is there a way to import the songs?

Thanks to SONY...I presume that's the disc you have... you can't use your iBook to rip the disc. unless you have a tray loading Tiger OS computer. Sorry, but your not the only one who is screwed. I bought Joe Perry and Aerosmith and Ozzy. None would load on my iBook but all loaded on my G5.

  • IDVD ejects disc during burning process of Dual Layer DVD

    Hi,
I am trying to burn a 3hr iMovie project of a recent holiday trip. Due to its size, it therefore needs to go on a Dual Disc DVD. I intend to burn 8 copies, one for each member of the holiday.
I successfully burned the first disc in iDVD, however since then, the disc prematurely ejects at the "Multiplexing and Burning" stage, (At the 'Writing Lead In' stage within this) ,usually with 31mins remaining
I am burning at 4x , I have 27GB free space and I am using AONE Plus DVDs. I have read many discussions on here about buying Verbatim DVD-R's which i can do, but with the first dvd burning successfully, I would prefer to try other options before I commit to purchase..
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me
    Max

    Hi again,
I purchased a pack of Verbatim DVD-R DL Discs, tried the iDVD route and it ejected at the burning and multiplexing stage again. Not only this, but after burning and trying that same failed disc again, it actually contains part of the project, so this disc is now unusable.
After this I went the Disc Utility option as you advised and successfully got to the end until the 'closing session' section. Here, it continues to load and says it is 'closing the session' and i can hear my Disc drive spinning away, stopping, then starting to spin again (this continues to happen forever and ever)
Any suggestions at this stage would be great as i'm truly at a lost cause now..
    Thanks
    Max

  • G4 DVD Dual Layer question

I have a 14" G4 1.07GHz iBook with a Non DVD Burning CD/CDR/CDRW/DVD drive. My question is, will it READ a dual layer DVD? Thanks!

Hhmmm...let me know if it works for you. I have (I think) the exact same setup, and my drive spits out dual discs. We bought Bruce Springsteen's The Seeger Sessions, which is a dual disc, and I had to resort to alternate methods to import the songs into my iTunes library. I Googled after having the problem and found others who had the same problem.

  • Problems burning dual layer DVDs - help...please

I'm trying to burn a movie onto a dual layer (8.5gb) DVD but my 12" G4 Powerbook doesn't like it. It doesn't recognise the DVD and spits it back out after 30 seconds or so of strange noises, whirring etc. Burning onto regular 4.7gb DVDs seems to work OK, so am I doing something wrong? Can anyone help? FYI the media is DVD +R dual layer, made by Emtec (BASF).
    Powerbook G4 12   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Well I certainly am no expert on media, but I went to Apple's store to look at the PowerBook's spec's. On the 12" it says "Slot-load 8x SuperDrive (DVD±RW/CD-RW)" and then on the 17" it says "lot-load 8x SuperDrive (DVD+R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)." So it appears to me that the 12" does not support dual-layer discs. I know that it doesn't have a dual-layer burner, but perhaps it will not even let you do a dual disc one side at a time. Not sure, just guessing.

  • Ripping Dual Disk CD's to Mp

(I did a search and didn't find anything on this topic)?Does anyone know a way to rip Dual Disc cd's (cd on one side/usually video stuff on the other) to Mp3's so I can load them on my Micro? I tried the 'usual' method of converting my cd's but it doesn't seem to work. Thanx for any and all help!

I know it could be done because I did rip a dual CD, but I remember having trouble doing it, and I don't recall how I ended up doing it, but I did rip it. Just play around with your settings and it might happen for you too

  • I have a widget that won't uninstall

its a file in my desktop that wont delete because it says its in use but its not. Its not even on my dashboard. It also says it wont do it because growl is in use even though i dont have the application. Any idea how i can get this crap off my laptop???

    It's a "Dual Disc" with 5.1 Audio
Then it is not a redbook audio CD and it may not work correctly with some drives.
Use another computer/application to rip the songs.

  • Can iTunes play 5.1 audio on a Mac (not AppleTV)?

My Macbook, like many other Macs, has a digital audio port that doubles as a stereo mini-jack for headphones. I'm interested in importing videos into iTunes with 5.1 sound and playing them with iTunes, with the audio going out the mini-jack to a toslink adapter to my surround-decoding receiver. Can iTunes on a Macbook import and playback 5.1 surround content or will it get converted to stereo in the import?

That may work for the dual disc formats. Although I question the point of a video iPod that won't import video. A CD is copywritten material and it will import.
So, for an album that is only in the DVD format like BNL "Are Me Deluxe Edition" there is no way to get it into iTunes and eventually my iPod. iTunes even sells the album in a standard format. Are you saying that I need to buy it a second time for the iPod/iTunes?

  • Can iTunes import 5.1 Audio CDs (basically a DVD)

I have picked up some new albums recently and they are not being imported by iTunes. Some are the DualDisc format. CD on one side and DVD on the other with 5.1 audio. The CD side will import but the other side will not. e.g. Weird Al, Straight Outta Lynwood. Some albums just have the 5.1 Audio format. e.g. Barenaked Ladies, Are Me Deluxe Edition 5.1
I would like to import it for the enhanced audio along with the various videos or extra footage that may exist. At this point I would just be happy if I could just get the audio imported. Is there any way for iTunes to import these formats or will I need a 3rd party application?

  • Trouble loading new Bruce dvd to ipod

The new Springsteen dual disk cd side doesn't play on new apple notebook, and there is a note about dual disk that says the cd won't play on some players. I want to transfer the music to my ipod, so used the dvd side as directed. When it inserts, the DVD player opens and I can't find a way to import anything then to my ipod. HELP??

  • Ripped music on iPod stops half way through

I ripped an audio CD (which is a dual disc) onto my computer and synced to my iPod. When I listen on my iPod, the songs are stopped at the half way point. The time on the song is correct (~3:00mins). I played the files in iTunes and they work as normal.
Is it something to do with my iPod? I will try to do other CDs to see if it does it on those.

I would try moving the existing backup to a safe place since there may be some corruption that is causing the problem.  The backup file is located hre:
The folder where your backup data is stored changes depending on the computer's operating system. Since iTunes only keeps one backup per device, you should ensure the backup folder is included in your periodic data backup routine.
iTunes places the backup files in the following places:
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
    Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: If you do not see the AppData or Application Data folders, you may need to show hidden files (Windows XP,  Windows Vista and Windows 7).
