Dual-Display Tools for Mac OS X ???

I think this question is more appropriate in some software section of the discussions but I couldn't find an appropriate place to put it.
Anyway, the questions is, in Windows XP and Windows Vista there are some tools, (either provided within the software in the graphics drivers, or available through external 3rd party software such as UltraMon) that facilitate working in a dual display environment.
I have Mac OS X now running on 2 x 20" displays and I am looking for some tool that offers similar quick tools and options like "Jump window to next screen" or "Maximize on second monitor", and a tool which might extend the dock to the second monitor. So that whatever is minimized in one monitor appears in the dock of that monitor rather than appearing in one dock.
Also something that remembers which monitor the application was running on when it was opened before, so that the next time it opens up, it opens in that one rather than opening up in the primary monitor.
This was all offered by a software called UltraMon in Windows XP, and I found it extremely handy when working on a dual display set up. Especially since I could assign keyboard shortcuts to all the tools and just by pressing some keys on the desktop I could jump windows to the next screen, or maximize, minimize on each screen.
Does anyone know of an equivalent in Mac OS X?

Unfortunately, there does not seem to be any Mac equivalent for UltraMon.
Fortunately, MacOS has always been much better at managing multiple display setups than windoze ever was. You might take a look at "Desktop Manager"
http://desktopmanager.berlios.de/
which provides a lot of the virtual desktop features UltraMon offers.
The biggest drawback in using multi display configurations in OSX has to do with the way applications are displayed. In windoze, every open app has its own "menu bar" that is part of the application window and, therefore, can "travel" with the window. On the Mac, the menu bar is always at the top of one display or the other and changes for the active application. Not nearly as convenient and one of the very few ways that windoze (IMMHO) is "better".
There is a good utility that will aid greatly in overcoming this limitation. It's called DejaMenu
http://homepage.mac.com/khsu/DejaMenu/DejaMenu.html
and it will give you a popup contextual menu for the active application by "right clicking" anywhere in any of the app's windows.

1x mini-dvi - HDMI to one screen.
1x HDMI - HDMI to the other screen.

According to the copy&paste from wikipedia, HDMI should support higher resolution than 1920x1200. So the question is, does it aupport that on the mid 2011 mac mini. It says in the specifications
"Mac mini is designed to work with HDMI devices that comply with versions 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 1.2a, 1.3, 1.3a, and 1.4 of the HDMI specification."
That should mean it should be able to support it, but I don't know : <

How do I adjust display resolution for Mac Mini? Text does not look crisp. Using Samsung 27 inch monitor with HDMI input

Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Displays. Depending on your version of Mac OS X, it may be set for "Best for Display" in which case it should already be set at the optimum for your monitor, or it may display resolution options in which case you should set it for the native resolution of your display.

• Air Display app for Mac Air???

Will Air Display app for Mac enable me to use my Mac Air display on a larger, Windows monitor? Thanks.

Yes, but not the Mac app, the Windows app. Just buy the Windows version of the Air Display app from the Avatron web site: http://getairdisplay.com, and download the free Air Display video drivers for your Mac.
You can try the Windows app for free for up to an hour of connection before deciding whether or not to buy.

I have a MacBook Pro 15 Retina running Yosemite 10.10.2 and MS Office for Mac 2011. I installed the latest version of WebEx Productivity Tools for Mac, the installation completed just fine, the WebEx icons hooked into Outlook OK. But every time I try to schedule a meeting, I get this error:
The operation couldn’t be completed.
(NSURLErrorDomain error -999.)
Does anyone here have a clue what the hell that means?

Hi William,
I suggest you call into WebEx Support. This community is for Cisco WebEx Meetings Server product (on premise solution) that doesn't support PT for Mac, so can't verify what such error might represent.
I hope this will help.

• Dual display help for a recently converted mac user

I have a 24" Intel IMac and I wanted to set up dual displays. I may have jumped the gun a little because I didn't do much homework but I found a big cheap monitor at Best Buy which is an HP w2338. I bought that and the mini-DVI to VGA adapter. I hooked everything up and both monitors work but I have a couple small issues that I can't seem to find how to fix. First, I have about a 1.5 inch strip along the left side of my hp monitor that isn't used at all. It is just a black strip that taunts me. When I drag things from my IMac to my HP it drags fine, but it just acts like the monitor is smaller than it is. The resolution on my IMac is set to 1680x1050 and on my HP it is 1920x1080. Second, I have very faint vertical stripes in my new HP monitor. They can be seen the best in the grey parts of my windows. Any help with either issue would be greatly appreciated.

On your 24-inch iMac's screen, the native resolution is 1920x1200. You can use a lower resolution, but the display will seem a bit fuzzy (the pixels are being approximated). So you should use 1920x1200 on the iMac's screen, unless you have a good reason to use something else.
On the HP display, it sounds like the native resolution is 1920x1080. That's the resolution of an HDTV, so it should work. However, when you connect an HDTV, it connects with a digital connection, HDMI. So I think it will work if you connect it HDMI. If that monitor happens to have DVI, use DVI.
If it only has VGA and HDMI, there was a recent topic that was very similar (same display I think). Is your iMac the older model (not the brand new 2009 model) with a Mini-DVI port? If so, take a read there to see if the information is applicable to your situation.
http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9247482
Now, if that display you have is different, and it has a DVI connector, please post back.

• Are there any CD/DVD recovery tools for Mac?

In the good old days (??) of windows I had a plethora of handy recovery tools for rescuing data of scratched or damaged CD/DVD.
Recovery utilities is one area where the Mac community seems to fall flat - I've spent an hour looking and can't find anything remotely like IsoBuster or the other tools I used to enjoy...
If I ran those Windows tools under Parallels, do you think they would be able to diagnose a CD in the iMac's superdrive?
Any thoughts?
Steve

Yes (I second that motion...)
Isobuster will work in windows on a virtual machine or in windows booted from a boot camp partition.

• Version control tool for Mac OS X?

Hi all
If using labview on Mac OS X,
do you have some version control tools to recommend?
Thanks a lot

As far as i know, LV for Mac does not integrate with source code control provider. LV for Windows has two requirements for this:
a) Professional Development Environment
b) A source code control provider compatible to the Microsoft Source Interface
There is still always (Mac, Linux and Windows alike) the possibility to control source files using the SCC providers client software.
Many open source project SCCs like CVS or Git integrate, at least in Windows, in the File Explorer.
I recommend you to research possible solutions like this for Mac.
The next question is if you want to use a distributed SCC or a local one. Depending on this, you will have to setup a network server with compatible provider (e.g. RhodeCode).
LV provides both a Diff and Merge tool as EXE (Professional). I am not sure if this is also true for the Mac version, so look for "LVCompare" and "LVMerge".
hope this helps,
Norbert

• PS-Tools For Mac?

Hmmm, not sure I'm clear on what you want to do, but with Chicken of the VNC on the 10.4 Mac & I forget which free APP on the PC at the moment...

You can Share the PC on your Mac's screen and control it.
You might use Terminal to make a connection & control it also.

• What is the best diagnostic tool for Mac 10.7

Having lots of weird problems....such as mail opens when I start an app,, have to reboot to open Mac, windows show on screen with desktop, etc. Have verified disc & repaired permissions. Shows all is ok... Installed Norton for Mac, no viruses.
What is the best diagnostic program that can find what is going on?

Norton Antivirus (made by Symantec) has a very long and illustrious reputation for mangling Mac OS X systems, sometimes to the point where a complete reinstall is necessary. Among other things, it installs kernel extensions which are known to cause kernel panics and system freezes; it contains known and documented bugs which can silently corrupt Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign files, destroy a user's ability to authenticate as an administrator, and (on PPC systems) can cause Classic to stop functioning; and Symantec has on at least two occasions now released flawed .dat file updates which erroneously report certain critical Mac OS X files as "viruses." (Deleting these "viruses" causes damage to the system that in some cases renders it unbootable.)
