Dual display with MacPro?

I've seen lots of posts about this subject but haven't yet found a definitive solution to my problem... Recently got a MacPro (2 x 2.26GHz Quad Core Intel Xeon/6GB 1066 MHZ DDR3/NVIDIA GeForce GT120 if that helps) I still have the 2 Apple Studio Display monitors which I used with my old G5, connected to it via DVI-ADC adapter. As the new MacPro only has a single DVI input which I need the adapter for (the monitors have ADC connectors) Is it possible to connect the second monitor? I've yet to find a mini display port - ADC adapter and budget wise, new displays are pretty much out of the question. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

There are good displays in the $250 range while some MiniDisplay adapters run $99. Probably worth checking Dr Bott and MacSales for ADC adapter or monitor.
Best to put your hardware config in your sig profile at bottom.
Mac Pro 8-core (Xeon goes without saying, as does DDR3, but helps to know video card!)
Maybe leave one ADC display with whatever you do with G5.
Tip: migrating applications from G5 is not a wise idea, reinstall clean.

I have an early 2008 Mac mini (Intel) - with the standard DVI connector; using the supplied DVI/VGA adapter to connect to an LCD monitor.

Be sure to examine the limitations of each method.
(I'd also consider that your 2008 Mini likely has substantial resale value and that you might prefer getting a 2009 Mini which natively supports dual displays.)

Dual display with Lenovo USB Port Replicator 43R8770

Hi,
I have installed the Lenovo USB port replicator using the 1.0.0.1 drivers. I am running Windows XP on a Thinkpad X300.
I can successfully get into dual display mode but when I try to make the external monitor my primary display it will not work. It just switches my primary monitor back the notebook LCD without displaying any errors.
If I disable the notebook display I can set the external as the primary but as long as the notebook is enable the external cannot be set as the primary.
Has anyone ever seen this before?

I know it's an old discussion, but I wanted to post instructions on getting the dual-monitor setup working, as it took me a while to get it right.  This is using a Lenovo x301 with Windows XP SP3,
Lenovo Enhanced USB Port Replicator and 2 Dell 19" 1280x1024 analog flat panel monitors (I know..I know...)  My
boss didn't want to use the Laptop display.  Just the two external monitors.  Note: before proceding, please make
sure you've installed the Port Replicator drivers.
Connect left monitor (primary display) to x301 VGA port.
Connect right monitor (extended display) to Port Replicator VGA port.
Click on the Intel(r) Graphics Media Accelerator Driver for Mobile icon in the system tray and select GRAPHICS OPTIONS --> OUTPUT TO --> MONITOR
Click on the Lenovo Display Adapter icon in the system tray and select EXTEND TO --> RIGHT
Hope someone finds this helpful down the road.

How to Dual Display with Dell U2711

Hi,
I am looking to connect my iMac (late 2013) to a Dell U2711 in a dual display configuration. I'd like to be able to use all 2560x1440 pixels of the Dell.
the Dell has DVI-D (dual channel), Displayport (not mini displayport), HDMI and VGA.
which port will give me the cleanest picture and best performance and what cable do I need to buy ? (obviously thunderbolt to something...)

Your disk is already partitionned so you don’t have to choose between GPT or MBR, the choice is already made.
You don’t partition “C:”, that is the name of a Windows partition. You partition a drive.
Grub or syslinux, use whatever the beginners guide tells you to. Personally I think syslinux is simpler which is why I’m using it (but I’m not dual-booting, if that matters).
You’re not saying what your problem is with partitionning, so it’s hard to help.
Thanks for getting back to me, I'm not sure if I just create one large partition for Archlinux or if I have to create multiple? Where I'm also confused is with the Creating Filesystems part of the guide. I don't understand how I'd do this in Windows, or what /dev/sda1 is referring to.
As for the bootloader part, the Beginner's Guide gives you a choice between syslinux and grub, what I'm not sure about is which to use considering I'm dualbooting. How it will affect my windows bootloader, do I disregard that and use GRUB now? I'm unclear on how that works.
I'm also aware I need to disable Secure Boot, I just searched my BIOS options and couldn't find anything remotely relating to that, so I'm assuming it's not an issue since this computer was originally on Windows 7 anyway?

Dual Display with MSI Nfroce 420D ?

I once read a message that Nview is now funktioning with the MSI board. Now my question would be if you are able to use the integrated graphics core and it's vga out together with an AGP card. Or are you only able to use Nview with the AGP raiser card ? (TV out on on screen and VGA on the other ?)

well you can use dual display. but more on that l8r.
you CANT use onboard and AGP at the same time.
you can use onboard and its AGP riser card to get TV out.. but the TV out is the same image that would be displayed on your main montor... not exented. and at defalt you cant have both on at the same time.. but with" TVtool" that is fixed
now you can get dual diplay from some of the newer AGP cards like gefroce 4 or new ATI cards.
or you get a PCI video card and it will exent your montor.

Dual Displays with Mac Mini

Hi,
I have 2 identical BENQ G2420HDB (24") displays, and am looking at getting a new desktop computer. My thought was to go with the Mac Mini but I need to ensure compatibility.
Currently one is plugged into my Mac Book Pro 2.33 (one of the first Duo Core 2) and it reports a natural resolution of 1920x1080 (Normal HD), and wish to use both displays with the new computer. Will a Mac Mini support both monitors as extended desktop in this resolution? If so what adapters (if any) do I need to buy with the Mac Mini? The inputs on the monitors are: DVI, VGA. Is there an minimum model of Mac Mini that I would need to get?

The Mac mini has two video ports; mini-DVI and mini-DisplayPort. The mini ships with an Apple mini-DVI to DVI-D adapter. You could also purchase a mini-DisplayPort to DVI-D adapter and then use DVI-D cables to connect the adapters to your displays' DVI-D ports. This setup can support up to 1920 x 1200 pixels, and can be configured in extended desktop mode.

How do i set up a dual display with touchsmart520pcs.

I would like to use a dual display on my PC. Tried to connet the USB HDMI display adapter (j5create, JUA250) but my 2nd monitor was not display any after installing the driver and setting up the screen resolutions. would apprciate if any advices how to set up my PC fon this

Using dual display with DVD Player

I like to use the dual screen mode in my lectures using Keynote. Occasionally, I like to include a short DVD in my lectures. Is there a way to set DVD Player so that it plays in the dual screen mode so that I don't have to switch to the mirror screen mode?

Hi....I have a similar question regarding using DVD Player with an external monitor. I have my MPB connected to a Samsung monitor and everything seems to work well. I like to use my external monitor to watch DVDs in full screen mode, but I would like to be able to use my laptop's screen to browse the internet and type documents while keeping the DVD Player program in full screen mode on my Samsung monitor; however, whenever I click on my laptop screen while DVD Player is operating in full screen mode it exits full screen mode. Is there any way to keep DVD Player in full screen mode on my Samsung monitor while using my laptop's display for internet browsing, typing documents, etc...? Thanks for any help.

HT5918 ASUS PA279Q display with MacPro 2014

Will MacPro 2014 interface to full 2560 x1440 resolution with an ASUS PA279Q true color monitor ? Connection will be via mini display port cable into Thunderbolt port, the other end is Display Port into the monitor.
I've read that MAC OS will not recognize this resolution and will treat the ASUS and also the DELL 2713H such that the high resolotion will not be achieved.

I may have not phrased my question properly. Perhaps the issue is more about unsuring thet RGB mode is output from a new Mac Pro, OS X. Seems people are running a script on other MAC models to achieve this.

Can I use Dual Displays with New Mac Mini (HDMI Thunderbolt)

Hello Everyone,
This question may have been asked before... but I just purchased a beautiful new Mac mini and it has an HDMI port in the back and a Thunderbolt port. I am using a new DELL 23" HDMI monitor that also accepts DVI. I think I could run another monitor on the Mac Mini, but I don't know which is the best way to go... I purchased a mini-display port to DVI adapter because I heard thunderbolt could accept the mini-display cable.
1. Should I purchase the other identical Dell monitor and then run it on Thunderbolt 2 DVI and run it DVI
2. Or is there a HDMI splitter that splits the signal into two cables and go that way?

I just got the mini server and run a 24" LCD off the HDMI port and a 19" off the displayport (adapter to DVI) and it works a treat there's no need for any splitter.

Not directly, because the port on the iMac is for video-out only (ie, adding a second monitor to the iMac), it's not for sharing the iMac's screen out to another computer.
However, there is a nice software solution available with ScreenRecycler.

Dual display with one display turned off

I'm having a problem that I cannot figure out...
I run my 21" computer monitor as my primary display. I have my 42" TV as a second display when I play WoW. I'm not running in mirrored mode. The problem I'm trying to resolve is if I decide NOT to play WoW on my TV (leaving the TV off), but rather run it on my 21" primary monitor, the WoW application (when started) is being display on the TV as a extended monitor. How can I bring (drag or otherwise) that application over to my 21" primary monitor without turning on the TV to drag it over?

Just to let you know...When you have two displays hooked up to your computer. The video ram is split between the two monitors, even if you have the second monitor off. When not using the second monitor you might want to disconnect it from the computer so the main monitor uses the full video ram.

There has been quite a lot of discussion here about driving twin displays with the mini, and more recently about the potential for USB video adapters to facilitate this, particularly in the light of several vendors claiming they have suitable MacOS devices and drivers 'almost ready'.
The DisplayLink solution seems to be the one most suggested as viable, though it's a pity they have not yet been able to move their drivers from beta - I suspect that puts a few people off. It's therefore good to hear of a real-world experience that should help others decide whether or not to go this route!

Alittle help with dual-setup with ati radeon 5770

Hello everyone, I have been trying to setup a dual display with 2 flat panel monitors.
1. A WestingHouse Digital Electronics "17"
2. A Goldstar Company Ltd "23" (Main Display)
Im currently running the gnome desktop, what im trying to setup, is have both the gnome desktop show up on both monitors. For example if I wanted to move something from my main monitor to the smaller one to the left of me, I want to NOT be able to do that, and only have the mouse be able to move accross the 2. 2 Seperate desktops one 2 seperate screens. Im not quite sure what its called, Im thinking maybe its a clone Desktop? Anways, The graphics card Im using is an
Ati Radeon 5770, has 2 vga ports. I currently have the "video-ati" driver installed and works well with my main screen, but im unable to get my secondary screen (to the left of me) working. I tried going into System>>Preferences>>Monitors, and tried tinkering with the display, and tried enabling the 2 monitors and moving them from left to right, to see if that would possibly let it show up or start to function, but only the main screen works. I generated a new xorg.conf, since I didnt have one prior to installing Arch, I was following these to guides

An xorg.conf may not be necessary, but I still find it nice to have the control that the file provides.
In looking over yours, I see several things that could be causing your problems.
First off, I notice that you have Screen0 that is using Card0 and Monitor0. This part looks ok.
When I look at Screen1, I notice that you are using ATI Graphics Adapter1 and Monitor1. I don't see entries for either of those, although you have an ATI Graphics Atapter2, but there is no entry for your second monitor.
I also notice that you are trying to use both radeon and fglrx as drivers. As far as I know (and I don't have an ATI video card at the moment), you can use one driver or the other, but not both.
After you have these things fixed, then you can put in the Screen section in your server layout to describe the positioning of your second monitor.
All in all, the issues that you have to fix are minor, but frusterating if you are too close to the situation.
