Dual Ethernet Airport Not Broadcasting?

I have a dual ethernet Airport base station connected to a cable modem. I started having connectivity problems between the airport and my three Macs (G5, G4 Powerbook 17-inch and older G4 Powerbook 15-inch) a couple of days ago. Today none of the Macs can access the internet.
I've tried everything: using Airport Admin to reconfigure, resetting the base station, working with the cable internet ISP folks, etc. The Internet Connect interface tells me the Airport is indeed connected to the internet, but none of the Macs seem to be able to connect with the Airport. Also, hardwiring the ethernet cable to the G5 works just fine.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

I too am having the same problems with the dual ethernet airport. This happened around 3/29 as well. I have called the cable co. for dsl modem advice, the tech says its a apple problem. the apple tech says all is hooked up ok. but when the air port is connected to the dsl modem all the lights are green except the internet. will not talk to the modem. I have done a hard reset and followed all the steps.
When dsl modem is directly connected to g4 cube... all is ok.
My house has been wireless for a long time..... Please does anyone have any ideas to fix this?

  • Can I change my Dual Ethernet Airport from WEP to WPA?

I just read that WEP wireless networks aren't really secure, even when set up as "closed," but it appears that my Dual Ethernet Airport only allows WEP networks.
Can I change software or firmware to allow me to configure the Airport as a WPA network? My firmware is version 4.0.9 which appears to be the most current available.
Thanks for any help. I'm also having the problem with a dual core machine not automatically establishing with my closed airport network if anyone is keeping track, I've got an unanswered thread about it on the intel mac page.
Also, I apologize for posting this on the Airport for Windows page, I'm using a Mac, actually several.

  • WDS with Airport express and Dual ethernet Airport base

Can the airport express and dual ethernet airport base create a wds? I can't find the options on the airport base's software.

coloradoapple, Welcome to the discussion area!
The Dual Ethernet (snow) AirPort base station (ABS) does not support WDS.
Only the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) and AirPort Express (AX) support WDS.

  • Dual Ethernet will not connect if set to share Single IP address

The subject says it all. My trusty old Dual Ethernet will not connect if set to share Single IP address.
I cannot get anything but a self assigned IP address with it set to share a single IP address.
Before about Tuesday of last week I had connected to it a Mac mini, iMac, Dell Desktop, Dell Laptop, and PS3 all working fine. I think Comcast or Apple updated their system or Airport software and now the old dual Ethernet will not share a single IP address.

So far as I know, there has been no recent change in Apple's software affecting the Snow (a/k/a Dual Ethernet) base station. About 2-1/2 weeks ago, Apple distributed an update to AirPort software for Intel Macs running Tiger, but it would not have affected the base station.
Your topic implies that when the Snow is not set to share a single IP address (i.e., presumably, when "Distribute IP addresses" is unchecked in the Network pane of AirPort Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow), one of the computers is connecting to the Internet through the base station. I also imagine that the self assigned IP address you mention is the IP address of that computer, rather than of the base station, and that that computer obtains an IP address from Comcast when the Snow is not distributing IP addresses.
Assuming that that computer is connecting wirelessly, then whatever settings that computer is using for TCP/IP and PPPoE in the AirPort part of System Preferences, while the computer connects to the Internet, should be the ones used for the base station, in the Internet pane of AirPort Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow. (Most likely, it is simply "Using DHCP.") The IP address obtained from Comcast should be received by the base station, when it is set to distribute IP addresses in the Network pane, and the IP address should show up in the Internet pane. (When the Snow is distributing IP addresses, it has two IP addresses itself, a WAN IP address obtained from Comcast and a LAN IP address, 10.0.1.1, visible only to devices in your network.)
Even when the settings are correct, the Snow might not be able to obtain an IP address if your cable modem remembers the computer, which had been receiving the IP address previously. You'll probably need to shut down the computers and unplug power to the base station and cable modem. After waiting 5 minutes, restore power to the modem, then after another 5 minutes, restore power to the base station, then after another 5 minutes, start up a computer.

  • Dual Ethernet Airport

I have been able to configure the ABS dual ethernet using the LAN connection, but when I disconnect the ethernet cable the imac does not see the ABS. How do I get the imac to recognize the ABS or how do I connect to the ABS?
I am using airport admin utility for graphite and snow version 4.2.5. The admin utility does not show the ABS wirelessly, but will show it while connected using the ethernet cable.
I have tried doing a hard reset, but the original name remains and does not change and the soft reset does not do anything. the middle light blinks once every second and I have followed the manuals for hard and soft reset.
How do I get the computer to recognize the ABS?

If you're sure you've configured the airport to create a new network and its not showing up wirelessly, either the wireless functions of the airport or your computer are not working properly.
If you have several computers capable of wireless, check them all to see if the airport network shows up. If not, then the airport base station may be bad. (check out those new airport extremes, they're nice )
If your computer is unable to see any networks (at other locations or in your area), then the airport software/hardware on your computer could be bad. Try:
    - make sure airport is turned on in OSX
    - if you have an external antenna, make sure its plugged in properly
    - if you have a switch on your computer that turns on/off wireless, make sure it is turned on

  • Airport not broadcasting signal

I recently discovered that the wireless network I set up for my grandparents desktop Mac, does not work. It will broadcast sporadically and show as seccure. When I go to enter the password for the network it will not accept the previous password,or the new password and give a connection time out.
Airport and Ethernet are both enabled, Airport sharing is enabled.
Someone also decided to "fix" the problem of the wireless for them treating the Mac much like one would a Windows machine.
Any hints as to get this working correctly and still have the network secure for the house? (i.e. I don't want the neighbors to piggy back off the signal)

Did you try the default reset as follows:
Power down the Express for a few moments
Hold in the reset button and while you continue to hold the reset button in, plug the Express back in to power
Keep holding the reset button until you see the amber light begin to blink more quickly.
If you try this a few times without success, then I'm afraid that the Express has experienced an internal failure and it will need to be replaced.

This "open NAT" is a relatively new thing not supported by the dual Ethernet AirPort base station (ABS).
How have you tried to map/forward/open a port?

  • How Do I setup Dual Ethernet (Snow Saucer) base as "repeater" for Extreme

Just migrated from G4 iBook to an MBP. Currently still using my Snow Saucer (Dual Ethernet) airport base station (had to communicate with the Base using the iBook, and manually enter the MAC address of the MBP).
When I go to the trouble of setting up my Airport Extreme to become the base station to which my DSL line is connected, I also want to use the old Saucer as a "repeater" to get a better signal somewhere else.
Where are the instructions for doing this?
Also, I want to know if this may be a bad idea, because IIRC I read that if the Extreme detects a device using the "old" frequency, it will downgrade itself to that frequency, and I will lose the advantage of the Extreme for any devices which could make use of it.

However, extreme and express base stations can be configured to to act as relays and receivers for Graphite and Snow base stations.
With no setting or availability of WDS capability on the dual ethernet device, I fail to see how this would be possible.
Setting this up is fiddly because you have to configure the bridges to connect to an ABS via a MAC address.
And, the ABS must also be configured with the MAC address of the other devices in the WDS, but there are no provisions to do this.
If you want, I'll send you a link for MacTracker, which lists all models and specifications.
It might be possible to run ethernet from one of the other AirPorts, configure the dual ethernet version in "bridge mode" (if possible) and then have it create a wireless network. To be part of the "same" wireless network, it would need to be setup to use the same wireless network name, security and password as the "main" network.

  • Is Duel Ethernet Airport Base compatible with Airport Extreme Card?

I am about to upgrade to the new Macbook Pro 15" from my Titanium G4. I currenty have the original Airport card and the dual ethernet Airport Station.
Question - will the new Pro with the Airport Extreme card be compatible with the old base station?
If it will, what would be the advantages of upgrading to a new Extreme Basestation?

Question - will the new Pro with the Airport Extreme card be compatible with the old base station?
Yes, the MacBook Pro can connect to a 802.11b base station like the Dual Ethernet (aka snow) AirPort base station (ABS).
If it will, what would be the advantages of upgrading to a new Extreme Basestation?
The AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) offers a USB printer port for wireless printing.
The AEBS offers WPA and WPA2 wireless encryption.
Also if you have other computers on your local network, large file transfers between your computers will be faster.

  • Airport Dual Ethernet connecting to DSL.

My normal system is a Windows XP PC connected to 2wire dsl router from SBC. My wife has an iBook(the white one)that we are trying to get connected to the internet using an Airport Dual ethernet. THe iBook has a wireless card installed and before I moved all I did was plug the airport into the DSL router and all was well. Now what is happening is that as soon as I plug the airport into the router it I lose my PC internet connection, even more frustrating is that I still can't access the interent via the iBook.
I am totally unfamiliar with the Mac OS so this just adds to my frustration. Are there any resources/guidance/books that would help a new wireless Mac user on configuring the airport to connect to the same router as a windows PC without screwing it all up?
    Any help would be awesome.

PC   Windows XP Pro   Airport Dual Ethernet

Hello, I'm new to Mac's as well, but I hope I can help narrow down the source of the problem a little.
You said "and before I moved all I did was". I take that to mean you moved from one home to another. Does that mean that you also have a new DSL service provider (which means they provided you with the DSL router you are using. A couple things to try to semi isolate the problem, or at least try to narrow it down to one device having issues.
Try to connect to the internet with each computer individually using the DSL router, one at a time. Do they both work that way?
Try connecting the airport only, then connecting to the internet with each computer individually (the other should be powered down so it doesn't try to connect when wireless becomes available {hopefully}). Do they work this way?
If they work, or one does but not the other you have provided yourself wirh a wealth of information to offer the experts (no that's not me), I'm afraid I won't be much help beyond this. The reason for this method is that you may discover that something has happened to your system(s) (hopefully not) during your move(?), or your service provider (new) may have provided you with a faulty router (just a couple of possibilities).
Another thing, have you installed any new software, or updates recently, like just before the connection stopped working.
    Hope this helps.

  • Ethernet port not connected - airport working - not able to get online

Hi, new poster. Never had an issue with our beloved iMac 20 inch Intel Core 2 Duo 2.16 GHz - 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. It's old but it serves us, we hope it's not shot. Power goes out a lot here, system has surge protection but no battery backup. System just goes down without being shutdown properly. We used wired Ethernet. No the problem. Last time power just went out, the system would not boot up. I searched around and found out to use the DVD to verify/repair disk. It finally did and system now boots up. However, it says the Ethernet is not connected. It is. I tried three different cables that worked with our laptop and two different routers, all that happens is the light on the router flashed on and off. While on the network status in sys pref displays no cable detected vs. Cable connected but not connected to internet. Assumed the port was shot. OK, turned on the airport. Connects, gets DHCP assigned IP address and/or accepts static IP but when we launch Safari says it can't connect. Tried Opera browser, same thing. Sophos AV also can't connect for updates. All these network configurations had worked previously until this last power outage. Searched for help, as I don't want to waste peoples time. Found out about these things that follow: SMC RESET - PRAM RESET - Delete connection and recreate same - Network Diagnostics - Hardware Diagnostics - Verify & Repair disk ••• Nothing makes it connect to Internet. Network diagnostics gets to end but will not get connected. Hardware diagnostics regular and extended report no issues. We think the logic board is shot given everything we tried and symptoms with system. Can anyone suggest something we did not try of the things we did listed above? Please help us save this thing from the recycling center. Thanks in advance. Sorry for the long post, wanted to be thorough with what's going on and what we have already tried and done thanks to searching these forums for the last week.

    Yikes, sounds like big problems!
Have you blown the dust out lately?

  • Set the Airport Extreme to not broadcast the SSID

Set the Airport Extreme to not broadcast the SSID

"Hiding" the SSID will do nothing to protect you from hackers.....and anyone else who wants to see your network, since there a numerous free utilities on the Internet that will reveal your network in seconds.
On the other hand, it might keep a few honest neighbors from seeing the name of your wireless network.
iOS devices often have trouble connecting to a "hidden" network, so you may need to display the network if your iPhone, iPad, etc have trouble connecting to the network.
    Your call on this.
Assuming that you have Lion, Mountain Lion or Mavericks on your MacBook Pro.....
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the AirPort Extreme icon, then click Edit in the smaller window
Click the Wireless tab at the top of the next window
Click Wireless Options at the bottom of the window
Enter a check mark in the box next to Create Hidden Network
Click Save, then click Update and allow a full minute for the AirPort Extreme to restart

  • Airport express works with ethernet and not wifi HELP

ive just changed my router to a Dlink on aol, ive connected the airport express to the new wi-fi as well as my macbook and iphone. The light has gone solid green but wont connect to the mackbook or iphone to play music. If i connect with a ethernet lead it works. Then if i take the lead out it still works for a few minutes then cuts out. Without the ethernet my mac doesnt find find it wirelessly.
Ive reset it several times but it just doesnt seem to like it. Please help!!

After Grant pointed out the DNS thing, I started to check that part, and I noticed something funny. I called Apple Support regarding the problem, and now it's solved
    Here is my experience:
    1. My Airports worked fine when home, but not at work.
    2. Checking the LAN DNS addresses I received three addresses. 2 in the 158.xx... range and one in the 129.xxx... range.
    3. The Airport Extreme and Airport Express does only support two DNS addresses, and since the two 158.xx... DNS addresses came first in that range the 129.xxx... was left out.
    4. I manually changed one of the 158.xx... addresses to the 129.xxx... address I got on my MAC / PC when I connected directly to the wall and did a "ipconfig /all" on the PC. The three same addresses is listed under network - airport on the MAC.
    5. Now suddenly it all worked. This due to that the two 158.xx... addresses seamed to be internal addresses, and the 129.xxx... address was from outside delivered from our operator.
    Summarized:
When you receive 3 DNS addresses you MAC and PC can handle it fine, but your Airport not. Find all your DNS addresses and write them down. Enter Airport Admin Utility and do a manual setup. Change one of the two equal address to the third address. Most probably listed as the last DNS address when you are connected directly and type e.g. "ipconfig /all" on your PC or you enter the network settings.
    Best regards,
    Bouw

  • Power for dual ethernet/snow airport

I have an old AirPort dual ethernet which I would like to lend to a friend who just got a MacBook but is currently using dial-up internet. The problem is that in it getting down off the shelf, I found three different power bricks, one 5V and two 12V. One of the two 12V power bricks has a light grey wire, which would be a better color match than the others. That is the only hint as none say "Apple."
What are the power requirements of this old AirPort?
