Dual intalled SSD recognition problem

hello,
i have upgraded my 2011 macbook pro 13" hard drive to ssd M500 and it recognized but couldnt write and did not show up finder but Disk Utility, so i googling it a lot and most of problems could fix by changing cable. so i found one cable from ebay ( ifixit doest have stock), but the seller said that is original cable, NEW HDD Hard Drive Cable 821-1226-A 922-9771 fits MacBook Pro 13" A1278 2011. my macbook works fine with my original HDD(little lagging after updating mavericks) only has problem with ssd and firmware is up to date, and ssd works fine with PC and ssd enclosure through usb. so the question is what cable should i buy, original?? or there is a cable specifically for sata 3 supporting 6G speed??
here is some info
ssd crucial M 500 240G
macbook pro early 2011 13" 2.7Ghz i7
mavericks 10.9.3
1 HDD works fine in main drive bay and optical bay
2 SSD works fine PC and usb enclosure
3 Inicialized through usb and using CCC, booting fine through usb but main drive bay
4 clean install and boot camp cloning was also fine through usb
5 while booting the computer (hdd optical bay, ssd main bay with both macericks intalled), MBP didnt recognize ssd
6 after booting, os recognize ssd and then cilcked "initialize"button then ssd was readable on Disk Utility
7 still didnt show up finder only disk utility
8 partition failed when ssd in main bay
9 it was grey out verification repair etc..
10 every time turning on MBP, Initialize pop up showed
i am so afraid of that the cable would be the exactly same one i have now

oh not boot camp time machine

  • Zen Vision:M 30GB recognition problems...Big t

Hi, 2 days ago i ran into a problem with my Zen. I had to charge it, as the battery was low and had to put some new music on it.. I plugged it into the USB port on my Laptop, where all of it's software is installed. The Zen wasn't recognized. Instead of the charging screen it normally started up with, it started up with the play screen(the screen it shows when a song is playing). I looked at the battery icon in the top right corner, and it wasn't doing anything. I turned the Zen off and started it up again. Nothing changed. I restarted my computer. Nothing changed. I shut down my computer and started it back up again. Nothing changed.
I took it to my desktop computer, a Compaq, and tried it there. It worked, but not how i was expecting it to work. The battery icon started flashing with the little lightning bolt, acknowledging that it was charging. But the play screen was still there. The odd thing with this is, i left the player to charge for several hours. When i came back, the Zen was in some form of idle shut-down. The screen was black, except for the battery icon with the lightning bolt. Oddly enough, he battery bar hadn't filled up anymore than when i left it. Upon unplugging the player though, the Zen turned off. When i turned it back on, the bar had filled up more. It wasn't fully charged though.
I plugged the cable back into it, and this time, the battery icon WASN'T charging. It just had the play screen on. It wasn't doing ANYTHING this time. Frustrated, i went out and bought the wall charger, and now i have a full battery. But it doesn't solve why my computer won't recognize my player.
Today, i un-installed the software that came with the player and re-installed it. It didn't do anything. I installed the software on my desktop computer, and THAT didn't work either. So i came to the website here and used the trouble-shoot guide. That didn't help, and this is where my problem differs from the other posters here who have recognition problems:
Back to my laptop: I have Windows Service Pack 2. I installed Windows Media Player . I went to the Device Manger, like the trouble-shoot guide said to. The kicker: Windows Portable Devices is NOT, i repeat NOT in my Device Manager. Neither does the Creative player either. I clicked on "The player does not appear in Device manager". That link showed me a diagram of a desktop computer, so went back to my desktop computer. I did everything above mentioned, and Windows Portable Devices is not in the device manager of my desktop computer either. Further reading the trouble-shoot guide, i could NOT locate "Other Devices" or "Unknown Devices" in my Device Manger on either desktop or laptop. There's nothing "Creative" related or "Zen" related at all in any of the Device programs.
I don't know what to do. All of the trouble-shoot guides don't discuss my issue at all. Everything is "If an MP3 player is reported working properly in Device Manager, but it is not detected or listed in Windows Media Player or Creative Media Explorer..."
Mine isn't even detected in Device Manager. My Device Manager has nothing regarding my Zen or Windows Portable Devices.
I'm thinking about messing with it in Recovery mode, but i don't want to erase everything i have on here, just to have my player still not work. I'm going to try messing with this at my friend's house to check the cable and the player there too.
But any help regarding my situation would be greatly appreciated. This is driving me crazy.

I tried my uncle's Zen Vision: M 30GB on my laptop and strange things happened. My laptop recognized the player as an unknown device and said i needed to install the MTP driver. I did that, and upon doing so, my laptop recognized my Uncle's player as a Portable device, allowing me to transfer songs to his player. But it STILL doesn't recognize MY player. Email support says i have to send it in for repairs, but i don't know...
    Any luck with you?

  • Debian Linux character recognition problem

Maybe this shouldn't be on this forum, but perhaps someone can help me...
I have Jrun 3.1, java 2 1.4 and Debian Linux.
On our test server everything was hunky dory, running perfectly.
But once everything was on the real server, we've had a character recognition problem. All of the higher characters are just replaced by a y or a ?.
I'm pretty sure that we can exclude java from the problem, the i18n.jar, which I believe holds all the international stuff is there and in the classpath (exactly as on the test server) and jrun is exactly as on the test server because we copied every folder as it was.
Therefore I think we can bring it down to Linux (Debian).
I cannot find where to look in Debian for any kind of keyboard or locale problem. Anyone know what to do?
kbdconfig command doesn't exist on our system.
    Any help greatly appreciated.
We are in Italy, by the way.
    Thanks.

If you check out the default file encoding you'll find that it's 7-bit ASCII; no characters > '\u007F' come out as they should. This applies as well to compiling as to running.
You can compile with another character encoding using the command line options, like: "javac -encoding ISO-8859-1 package/YourClass.java" (available at least in 1.4) and "java -Dfile.encoding=iso-8859-1 package.YourClass".

  • AirPort Extreme (802.11n) dual band is reporting problems?

    Hi.
I can not find an answer for my error-problem:
AirPort Extreme (802.11n) dual band is reporting problems!
I have an optimum on line cable modem connected to my AirPort Extreme (802.11n) dual band.
Ethernet cables connect it 1. into my new Nehalem Mac Pro, 2. into my back-up Quicksilver PowerMac. I also have 2nd gen. iPod touch works on WiFi.
This set-up has been working well but now I daily get the above error. Sometimes it says also: You have different locations set-up and it asks me to go through the set-up procedure. May be I did the initial set-up incorrect. I don't quite understand "locations" and it's purpose.
Also the Airport runs very hot so I put a small fan in front of it. A few times I had to disconnect the cable mains to reset and get back my service. Please help.

Can you tell what's telling you about those locations? An Apple AirPort unit can maintain different "configurations" so that it could be used in different locations without a complete reconfiguration. However, I don't believe they're ever referred to as "locations". On the other hand, a Mac can have multiple "locations" defined in the Network panel of System Preferences. Those can be useful if the Mac is used in different places with different arrangements.
If your AirPort Extreme is having problems the status light on the front will probably be amber. If you launch AirPort Utility and double-click on the AirPort Extreme item on the left, you should be able to see more details about the problem.

  • Touch ID recognition problems

I've been using Touch ID for over a week. I'm trying to figure out why it isn't working.
The problem is that after I "enroll" my fingers (thumbs and index fingers), it works for maybe 5 or 10 minutes. After that, the sensor becomes extremely flaky and starts to fail to recognize any of the enrolled fingers.
According to my best estimates, the phone only unlocks about 5% of the time. The rest of the time, it just says "try again" and forces me to eventually enter a passcode. I wipe off the sensor, dry my fingers, wash my hands to remove oils, etc. to no avail. A few times, it worked consistently (1 or 2 touches to unlock) for about an hour at a time before it became inaccurate again.
I've tried removing and re-enrolling my fingers, but the same thing happens. I've heard a lot of stories about people using it and finding that it works relatively well, so I'm stumped on why it isn't working for my fingers. I called Apple and they didn't know enough to figure out why the sensor isn't working properly. My best guess had to do with temperature variations, but recent testing has ruled that out (I enrolled after washing and drying my hands, waited a half an hour, washed and dried my hands again, and it failed to unlock, all while being in a temperature-controlled room).
If anyone else has had this poor performance and been able to determine the cause, I'd like to know. Please don't just post that "it works for you" unless you have some useful information.
    Thanks.

I also had the touch ID recognition problem come up after the last update.  I did find that scrubbing the screen with the same finger used to access your phone may help motivate the sensor and actually works more often for me then not.  Try scrubbing the screen before placing the recognized finger on the sensor.  See if that works for you...

  • 5th Gen Recognition Problems

I'm one in a list of many on these pages who appear to be having the same problem. I have tried all the fixes suggested vy Apple without success and I'm about to return the useless piece of crap to Apple in the hope that a new one will be more useful than the £300 doorstop I have at present.
For anyone that has sent their iPod back to Apple and had a replacement sent, has this solved the problem? If not, has anyone been successful in having their money refunded?
I'm concerned that returning the iPod will serve only to replace one with 8000 songs on it which is no longer recognised by my PC, with one with no songs on it which is not recognised by my PC. I've already spent 30 hours or so trying every conceivable fix with the gadget, and I'm concerned that there appears to be a very real - but unidentifiable - flaw with the product which seems to sporadically appear and make it impossible to update.
Anyone had any good news when dealing with Apple on this front?

Well, I now am back to 9000 songs and a couple of movies! How did I manage this given the recognition problems I've been having with iPod and Windows?
Easy. Explained the problems to those nice people at PC World in Edinburgh and they gave me a Creative Zen Vision M as a replacement plus the £60 so of difference in price.
So, back up to speed with my portable music and movies, and an FM Radio on it too. I seriously thought I had thrown my money down the toilet with the iPod and I'm delighted that PC World showed the sort of customer service they are not generally renowned for.
Interestingly, they were saying that they have had a lot of problems with the iPod - particularly in recent weeks. I hope Creative don't go the same way!

  • MTP and recognition problems with Zen Mi

Ok here I go, I have a 5 gig Zen micro.and here are my issues. I updated my players firmware a few months ago because it was running oddly. This worked beautifully and fixed the running oddly part. This was great until I got a new computer. I went to plug my player in and realized I did not have the proper software/drivers so i go to creative's site and download the ones I need. I finish all instillation stuff. I have media player . And when i plug the player in suddenly i get infinite recognition messages for an MTP device from windows. It keeps popping up until i disconnect the player at which time it says device installed but may not perform correctly. Ok so I realize something is wrong and I go forum trolling. I find people that say you need to downgrade media player from try that is still no go. I try to install different drivers. I try to install different software none of these fix the issue. On other computers i can get it to recongnize the player as a MTP device and load up. But as one of the fixes I went to the recovery mode and did a firmware reload. This went fine and the player still comes up and I can get it recognized but when I try to use the firmware installer (this is on other computers mine still does not fully recognize my Zen Mirco) It says device not found yet i can see it in my computer and it shows up as connected media device. I would first like to get the firmware reinstalled on my player. I can still goto the recovery mode screen. Then I would like help trouble shooting my MTP recognition problem.

Ok well my I can load my player up with music with the old firmware. But for some reason I cannot use WMP because as soon as I update my current one I get the same error as before. So this is still an issue as I would like to be able to use WMP and I would also like to be able to use the new firmware but I think that will mess things up again also.

  • Western Digitial external USB drive recognition problem

    Hi
I recently bought a Western Digital USB 250gb external drive. I connected it to my G4 Powerbook running OSX10.2.8 and it had no problem recognising it. I then dumped across a load of data successfully.
A few days later I upgraded to Tiger and now the G4 won't recognise the external drive at all. I have scoured the forums for an answer but have found nothing to fix a drive problem where the drive just doesn't appear at all in disk utility (or on the desktop)!
I didn't partition the drive when it was first recognised in 10.2.8 (which i now realise was a mistake). The data on the external drive is unimportant to me - I just want to be able to use the drive - maybe there's a way or reformatting and starting again? (The Western Digital site doesn't provide any drivers for Tiger - cos it's just meant to recognise it automatically..)
    Any information appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Mark

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Do you have any other USB devices connected to your Powerbook?
Is this a recognition problem right after the computer boots up? Or had the computer fallen to sleep prior to your connecting it? Sometimes I've seen USB ports fall into a low power mode causing problems recognizing USB devices until the machine is next rebooted.
If you have critical data on that drive, you may want to try Prosoft Data Rescue to see if it can see what is on that drive. You can also buy an external Firewire enclosure and try to move the drive to that, or find someone with a PowerMac G4 or G3 tower to see if it can be taken out of the case and put in the tower for recognition. If you do the latter, be sure that the jumper is set for the master/slave setting that matches the cable you are connecting in the drive.

  • W8.1/W7-64 dual boot, dual drive (SSD & SATA) GPT/MBR problems

I'm posting in both the W8 and W7 forums because I'm not sure which is more appropriate.
    Setup:
New Dell XPS8700 with Windows 8.1 installed on a 256GB SSD drive.  I upgraded to W8.1 Pro.
    2nd drive is a 2TB SATA.
    Goal:
    Keep W8.1 Pro on SSD.
Install W7 Ultimate 64 (legal copy, installation disk) on SATA Drive.
Select which one I want at boot.
    Main Issue
Cannot easily choose which OS to log into.  See  Dual Boot Problems and Current State for details.
    Background: W7 Installation Probems
    1. I disabled Secure Boot in the BIOS and Fast Startup in Windows 8.1
    2. I created 3 partitions (D, E, F) on the SATA drive (a GPT drive)
    3. Used the Advanced Option in W8 to boot from the DVD (absurd),
    4. Windows 7 started setup from the DVD but at the initial screen (Language, Country), it hung. Hard. No keyboard, no mouse.  Had to turn off computer.
    5. Using F12, selected legacy boot from DVD.  Now the installation got beyond the first screen. I selected Custom Install.  When I tried to install to the E: partition, I got the message that W7 could not be installed on a GPT drive.  From
a lot of research and reading, I'm guessing this is because I chose a legacy boot. But, please, note:  the only reason I did a legacy boot was because I could not get past the first screen with a "normal" CD/DVD boot,
    6. So, I went back into W8, deleted the volumes on the SATA drive, changed it to MBR, recreated the volumes.
    7. Using F12, again selected legacy boot from DVD and was able to install W7 on the E: partition, except that every reboot during the installation process got me back into W8, so I had to restart with the F12 option/legacy boot to finish W7 installation.
    8. Finally got W7 installed. Logged in. OK so far.
    Dual Boot Problems
    1. No boot menu.  Computer booted directly into W8.1. And, yes, Fast Startup in W8.1 still disabled.
    2. Downloaded and installed EasyBCD.  Created boot menu for W8.1 and W7 with W8.1 the default.
    3. Reboot, select W8.  Fine, I'm into W8.1
    4. Reboot, select W7. All I get is one bar of hieroglyphics across top of screen.  Hard freeze.  Had to unplug computer.
    5. Do an F12 reboot and select legacy boot from the SATA drive.  Get a different boot menu  with Windows 7 on top and W8 Media version below.  Select W7.  It loads and I log in.
    6. Do an F12 reboot and select legacy boot from the SATA drive. This time, select W8.  Get an error that it can't find W8.
    Current State
    1. The default boot into W8 works fine.
    2. Can't get into W7 unless I do an F12 legacy boot from SATA at startup.
    3. If I do an F12 legacy boot from SATA, I can't get into W8.
I do not want to rely on F12 for 2 reasons: first, I want W7 to be my default working enviroment. Please do not try to convince me that there is no good reason for that.  I want to do this, have legal, paid for copies of W7 (actually, I now have four.)
Second, it will make installing W7 updates nightmarish since I'll have go go through the whole F12 thing for every reboot.
I am assuming that the problem stems from the original GPT/MBR  split (with the SSD being GPT and the SATA being MBR) - although I could be wrong.  And, remember, the only reason I changed the SATA from GPT to MBR was because the W7 setup froze
at the initial screen when I first tried to install W7 with a normal boot from DVD.
    Things I've tried:
    1. Via W8, got to a command prompt where I ran bootsect.exe /scanos.  The result was that it found NO Windows Installations. Obviously incorrect.
    2. Uninstalled EasyBCD from W8.
    3. Rebooted.  Same boot menu as before: W8.1 on top, Windows 7 below (as I had set things up in EasyBCD).
    2. Via W8 Command Prompt did a bcdboot c:\windows to try to get GUI boot menu.  Got the error message: failure when attemptng to copy boot files.
What I want to do seems to me to be quite simple: run W8 from the SSD, run W7 from the SATA.  It's my understanding that I should be able to install W7 on a GPT drive and that would, I am hoping,
solve the boot menu problem.  But see Installation Problems above: I couldn't do the default boot from the DVD and install W7 because it froze at the first screen.  Is there some other way to get past the freeze and install W7 to a GPT?
I've been working on this for two weeks now, have read more articles, watched more YouTube videos than I care to list. Need Help Desperately.

    SOLUTION:
The problem I described above stemmed from the fact that I had been unable to install W7 without using the legacy option. (The W7 installation would freeze at the first screen.)  That created the boot incompatibilities between W8.1 and W7because I had
to use legacy for the latter but not for the former.
It turned out that the USB ports were the basic problem.  The Windows 7 installation program doesn't recognize USB 3.0 ports. Unfortunately, the A08 BIOS in the XPS 8700 -Special Edition (as of late Dec. 2014) has only 3 options for enabling/disabling
the USB ports: Front, Top, Back.  The back panel has a mix of USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports and I needed a 2.0 port for the mouse and keyboard to work.  However, disabling the Front and Top USB ports was sufficient. The W7 install no longer froze.
So, from my W8 installation, I wiped out the SATA drive, changed it back to GPT, partitioned it, disabled the Front and Top USB ports in the BIOS and booted from the W7 DVD.  The installation went fine.  After installing the network driver, downloaded
previously, and updating W7, I installed the USB 3.0 drivers and then re-enabled the Top and Front in the BIOS.
So, now the EasyBCD boot options work just fine.  Both drives are GPT. No legacy options.

  • Dual Drive (SSD) Macbook pro, Data Transfer from SSD to SSD Slow

    hello,
I have in my Macbook (early 2011 / 2.3 I5, 8gb ram) a new SSD (Samsung 1TB Evo 840) installed. The old still-functioning SSD (Crucial m4 512GB)  i built with an iFixit kit (Dual Drive)  in the Optical drive Bay.  The two SSD are working.
My problem is this: the data transfer between the plates (a copy Iphoto Library approx 252Gb) is very slow (252 gb approx 5hours).
Does anyone have any idea what could be the problem?

One of the bigger problems with migrating from PowerPC to Intel is not the operating system, but the chip. Migration Assistant has been known to fail for unknown reasons when moving between the Mac platforms. Instead, this user tip has been recommended to avoid such issues:

  • X230 upgrade SSD hit problem

i have just buy a new Lenovo X230. i also change the new OCZ vertex4 SSD 128Gb for Hitachi 500Gb 7200 rpm. when i turn on the laptop, the X230 can not detect my SSD, but i click Ctrl+Alt+Del and restart is OK. i install Win8 which follow Lenovo X230. Could you help us to fix this error when i Turn on my laptop?

I don't know if you ever got an answer to this, but I had that exact problem.  In addition to your woes, I could not recover from sleeping my laptop.
The solution was to upgrade the firmware on the SSD; the old firmware took too long to "spin up", and the laptop would time out and look to boot from somewhere else.  When waking from sleep, well, the laptop would just lose its **bleep**.
Anyway, note that upgrading the firmware on your Vertex4 will probaby require a low-level wipe of the drive, losing all your data.  You will need to reinstall from scratch, or use a program like MiniTool Parition Wizard (as I did) to copy your drive contents to another drive using another system, then back again.
Incidentally, I guess you also stuffed the 9mm Vertex4 into your x230's 7mm drive bay, like I did.  Getting it back out again was quite an adventure.  I ended up using oiled automotive feeler guages to create ramps for the drive to hop over the edges of the case, and using a screwdriver to push the drive out from inside the bay (with the keyboard removed).  Fun!

  • Mid 2011 mbp i7 with a SSD has problems, including grey screen/blue screen/beeping/freezing when I stream live video (i.e. watch espn or time warner cable) Help? Ideas?

Recently my Macbook Pro (June 2011, i7, 8gb RAM, 512gb SSD, AMD Radeon 6750, Mountain Lion - since July - currently 10.8.2) has been presenting me with an array of problems, usually initiated when I am streaming live video. I was streaming Time Warner Cable on 12/9 and it gave me what looked like the blue screen of death.  It started up after about five attempts that time. The other day, after about a week of not using the computer, it wouldn't boot past the grey screen. I (option) started it and it gave me two boot choices, the regular HD and a "10.8 restore" option.  The HD gave me the grey screen and the restore option gave me the dark blue screen. I reset PRAM and that didn't work.  After a force (x) start it worked.  Today, I was using "Watch ESPN" and the screen froze and the computer did some kind of repeating RAM beep or something.  I rebooted and it started up fine.  I'm not watching any videos anymore, but this is a problem since the primary purpose for my mbp is video editing. I'm still under AppleCare but I find more solid answers in the forums or at least better questions for the AppleCare people.
Anybody have similar experiences, or a solid idea of what the heck has happened to my machine?

I'm not really sure what method that person was talking about. I just read he had a successful install so I posted it.
    But I'll hazard a guess
    1. copy your entire drive to a backup drive
    2. boot into that drive and test it out - make sure its a flawless backup, it works, and the hard drive has no problems
    3. eject that drive, disconnect it and reboot into the leopard install dvd
    4. erase your main hard drive using disc utilities on the leopard install dvd -- you've made a backup, made sure that backup was good, and disconnected it so it's currently safely disconnected from the leopard install you're about to do. Also, on the hard drive you're erasing and installing leopard on to, many people recommend "Zeroing" it as well as erasing it. That option is part of the erase function in disc utilities on the leopard install disc.
    5. do a clean install of leopard
    6. follow step 4 from that original post exactly as that person described to do.
    7. read the rest of what they said
That's pretty much it. With the backup/erase/clean install/import/ you pretty much get everything you need exactly the way you want it with very few things missing -- and you've done this over a clean install. Plus that poster did mention that you can select what you want to import from your backup hard drive.
It sounds like its a "clean install" method that gives you control via "import from machine" option in the installer. Control over what parts of your "old mac" you want to import into your "new leopard mac".
Hopefully that helps. It sounds more involved, but its actually pretty quick and provides you with a perfectly save backup in case anything goes wrong with the leopard install.

  • Dual Monitor Causing System Problems?

Hi, I'm new to this site, so I hope this is where I ask this question! My design group switched to G5/Cinema Display screen from old g4 setups mid 2005. I retained my Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 2020u monitor to use as a secondary display for pallettes, extra files, etc. It's hooked up using a dvi-vga adapter.
My new G5 had hiccups from the start, but around March 2006 I started getting Kernel Panics almost every week, serious slow-downs, Adobe app crashes, etc. It got to the point that I was troubleshooting every week, but could never put a finger on exactly what was happening. IT archive-installed 10.4.4 after we discovered the system had been updated to 10.4.6 and we thought that would solve the problem. While that solved the issues that were relevant to 10.4.6 glitches, it didn't fix everything and little, persistent problems remained, including stalls, crashes and kernel panics. After removing suspect fonts, wallpaper, icons, updating software, repairing permissions, tossing preferences, and other troubleshooting over and over, we (I.T.) finally switched my cpu to another one in the department using data migration (just my user information, not software or other files). Still the same hiccups and even new glitches appeared (InDesign crashing on spellcheck, Photoshop not granting me access to save changes to files, etc.), including two more Kernel panics (within 5 minutes of each other) in the two weeks since we switched hardware. More troubleshooting fixed the app-specific problems, but there are still the persistent annoyances occurring.
I again did all the troubleshooting mentioned above and finally someone mentioned that I'm the only designer in our group using a dual display set-up. Could there be validity to the non-cinema display monitor causing these problems and if so, what is the solution? I've disconnected the second monitor for now, but would love to have it back. Also, we work with a server (for instance, the kernel panics only happen when I try to place a file from the server into InDesign CS2 using the place command, so there's another avenue to go down if the monitor isn't the issue.)Thanks!

I only just disconnected the monitor, so it will take time to tell if that's a factor. As for the kernel panics, although it's always the same scenario (placing images from server through InDesign) they happen very randomly; it's not happening every single time I place a file. In fact, I just placed an image on the server into an ID doc I have on my desktop, no problem. So I can't say for sure that it has happened when working from my desktop or only when working on the server.

  • G4 Dual 1Gb with restart problem

I have the weirdest problem. I have a G4 Dual 1GB powermac which has a problem with restart. It will start up and close down normally but I cannot restart it. If for any reason it crashes, or I need to do a restart, it seems to go into a sulk and refuses to do anything for a week.
If it is shut down normally there is no problem about starting. If however it has been restarted, when you turn on the front power switch it lights up and the fan roars a bit and then nothing ...
I've tried resetting the PRAM and changing the battery. I have also tried reseating the memory and the processors but to no avail - so - any ideas anyone???
Mac Mini (Intel)   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   Also G4 Dual 500, + various portables

Sounds like you need to reset the PMU switch on the motherboard - don't ask me how you do this, I can't find the appropriate Apple Tech Doc which explains this.
Or, the battery may need replacing, but only do this if the PMU doesn't solve it.
