Dual Monitor and Full screen playback in Color 1.0

So, I was wondering if somebody could help me out.
I have 2 screens, one is a 23" ACD other is a 23" dell. I am going to be color correcting with my Matrox MXO setup on the 23"ACD. Whenever I do full screen playback the waveform monitor and vectroscope and all that jazz is not available anymore (obviously because of full screen)
So I was wondering what my options were:
1. Setup the waveform and vector scope to show on my primary display? (if possible, I'm not sure how to do it)
2. Do I have to get another graphics card and run three monitors?
3. If I Color grade with full screen playback disabled am I still utilizing the MXO for grading?
I am new to Color and how it works so I apologize if these questions seem "newbie-ish" of me.
Thanks

Isn't there a SINGLE MONITOR option in COLOR? Use that.
I don't think two graphics cards will work with Color, as Color relies on the card when it comes time to render. Might mess it up, or not work.

  • Full screen playback on second monitor results in having to force quit Premier if a window opens on the second monitor.

Run into this problem a few times now. If I have full screen playback going to my second monitor, and then I try to do something like link media and the link media window opens on that second monitor I can't figure out a way to get to it. I end up having to force quit. Because the link media window causes all other application buttons to disable while it is open I have not been able to find a solution other than force quitting, reopen and disable full screen playback, open link media window and move it to the other monitor and then again enable full screen playback.
Has anyone run into this? Am I missing an easy solution?

You need to set up your Graphics Card Application first eg A and B Monitors , side by side etc.
In my case..a  NVidea Display Application does this from the Control Panel
Then the second monitor will appear in display setting (Premiere).
My second monitor is entirely dedicated to full screen playback display.

  • Full screen playback jittery with Aero enabled

    Hello,
Currently running the CS5 trial on a new (built specifically for cs5) W7 64 based Dell 12-core Xeon box with three monitors attached via two Nvidia Quadro 3800 cards and am having issues with the full screen playback - namely, when my third monitor  is enabled for full screen playback (connected via DVI>HDMI, 1920x1080@50Hz - yes I'm in PAL land) and my sequence matches, e.g. 50Hz - the playback is jittery (vsync slowing frame rate)- disabling Aero causes most of this to go away but now desktop video has to be disabled and there is some horizontal tearing (e.g. the vsync is now working but slightly adrift).
Googling around seems to indicate others with similar problems so this might be a W7 problem - has anybody else seen this kind of issue, and if so got a decent resolution?
I'd rather not have to splash out on unneccesary HDSDI and then HDSDI>HDMI I/O's when on paper a monitor connected via HDMI should playback correctly (which Windows Media Center does) - it also doesn't seem too much to ask for full screen playback to work 'out of the box', does it? How else are we expected to do this otherwise?
I've filed a bug report on this but any other ideas or suggestions appreciated.
    Thanks
    Sacha Goodwin

    2. First thing I did was a clean install of W7 (Enterprise), I always start from vanilla install.
I'm a bit unsure about your tuning guide - can you document what improvements you get after changing said settings? I note the option "Adjust Visual Effects and check Adjust For Best Performance" is one way to turn off Aero (which I've tried anyway), which whilst sort of resolving the original problem, unfortunately now causes other display issues (and also caused CS5 to crash when using the source trimmer window) so have had to switch it back.
Turning off the services as you are suggesting seems a bit drastic just to get a plain DV clip without any FX to playback smoothly (e.g. CPU util is about 3% in these situations, network at about 5%, disk not doing anything).. it's the kind of thing I would have done about 10 years ago but modern machines are supposedly built around HD multimedia so it seems odd to still be expected to do this kind of thing now.
FYI, this was the thread that suggested turning off Aero to fix:

Out of interest, what do other people use to get full HD preview under CS5? Is it all OK out there in NTSC land @ 60fps?

  • Full screen playback as with 2nd screen blacked?

I've got two Apple displays hooked up to my G5, and unlike DVD Player, which automatically blacks the second screen when I enter full screen playback, Quicktime leaves the second screen unblacked- I'm hoping I can figure out a way to get Quicktime to black the second screen as with DVD Player? As opposed to simply dimming it (since the syst. prefs don't allow for complete dim-to-black) Any other users notice this as an issue? Obviously not a soul-crushing problem, but is kinda annoying...
Searched for previous posts on this topic, didn't see it posted already, which surprised me. But I don't see any settings in the Quicktime full screen playback settings that might address this.
    cheers,
    Jack

Holy blackout, Batman! That did the trick- my "Full Screen" options were set to "Fit to Screen" instead of "Fill Screen", and I checked the "Background Color- show on all displays" box. Nice. Thanks much!!!

  • Toggling for Full Screen playback

I am having no success toggling to full screen playback in Premier Pro CS6 using ctrl+` or anything else. The onmly way I can get to full screen during playback is by going to Edit/Prefernces/Playback and ticking one of the 2 monitors (or both) that I have connected. The only way of going back to small screen playback is by going into the same menu and deselecting.
Look forward to hearing from anyone,
    Dan

This isn't the answer you are looking for, but maybe I can help a little.
If you look in the keyboard shortcuts and search for "playback" the one under "edit" will at least allow you to call up the window faster than using menus. I assigned Ctrl-Shift-P because I don't care about setting poster frames and I can remember the "P" for "playback".
I don't see any way to select or deselect the monitor via the keyboard. At least not from within Premiere Pro. If you were a moderately talented programmer, there are ways to control Premiere Pro from outside of the program itself. I used to write programs to control other programs but I haven't done so since about 1994.

  • Can I run 2 monitor with one of the monitor having Full Screen for Elgato Eye TV?

My mac mini has Elgato 'Eye TV' software that runs in 'Full Screen'.  I want to keep this setting & also connect another monitor to the macmini & use other Appilications on the other monitor?  Can I run 2 monitor with one of the monitor having Full Screen for Elgato Eye TV?
    My early 2009 macmini can run Mac OS 10.5, 10.6, 10.7 & 10.8

Yes, run one from HDMI and the other from Thunderbolt/minidisplayport sockets. In EyeTV Preferences check the screen you want for full screen use and make sure your Dock is on the other one.

  • Full screen playback in PE9 garbled - anyone else see this?

I mentioned this in a general post but I'll make it a specific question now -
When I click on the "full screen" button near the top right of the interface, full screen playback has a corrupted area which corresponds with where the timescale is on the normal interface.  Sometimes the playback cursor "breaks through" as a black vertical line too.
    Does anyone else see this?
I have the latest Nvidia drivers installed.  Windows XP Pro SP3 Q9300 quad core PC 2GB memory.
    Thanks for any observations.

It's very obvious if you do have the problem - a wide strip of the video (horizontal, matching the timescale hidden beneath the full screen display) gets shifted sideways somewhat (flickering on and off), so that any vertical object in the footage gets displaced sideways at that point in an obvious juddering fashion.  I tried to do a screen grab but simply doing that makes the problem change - it is more evident when the footage is running than when frozen.
Anyway, adjusting the Windows Display Properties "hardware acceleration" slider, moving it to the left till it is set to the point where the message beneath reads "Disable all DirectDraw and Direct3D acceleraions.  Use this setting to correct severe problems with DirectX accelerated applications" seems to fix the problem.
Graphics card is a GeForce 8600 GT, in case that's relevant.
At least I know how to work around the problem.  Let's see if others come across the same problem in due course.  Maybe it's just a local issue.

  • No Full Screen Playback

I am trying to view full screen playback but I am not seeing any AV devices under the video playback menu. When I go to view/Video Playback the only option is "None".
I have ben able to get full screen playback with this setup as recently as today but something has changed.
I tried a complete reinstall and that did nothing.
I have tried refreshing A/V devices but it doesn't detect anything, not even the laptop screen.
    Any ideas?

    Using FCP 7.
I have gotten it to work a couple of times, but I am never sure what is fixing it. Restarting multiple times mixed with something else seems to do it, but then if I restart one more time after that I lose it again - the External A/V window comes up upon launching the program saying that it was unable to locate the Digital Cinema Desktop Preview.

  • MISSION CONTROL, LAUNCHPAD, and FULL SCREEN APPS (one month later)

I'm pretty good embracing a new thing when it comes along.  I downloaded LION the day it come out, which was over a month ago at this point. On that day, I immediately found MISSION CONTROL and LAUNCHPAD both uninituitve and pointless.  Unhandy iCandy.   And of FULL SCREEN APPS?  Not necessary on an iMac anyway.
So I quickly sought out quick solutions to 'fix' these new features.  Launchpad and full screen apps have the advantage that they can be simply ignored.  This is a good thing.  Mission Control, on the other hand, got in the way of a beloved feature for me:  what was once SPACES and EXPOSE.  That is, I couldn't simply ignore MC because I still needed the previous helpful features in Snow Leopard.
My solution was kind of surprising and eye-opening.  It's complicated to explain but I thought I'd share.  This conclusion is likely best suited for someone not using a small screened Mac.  It turns out that most users (with big enough screens) don't really need Mission Control, Launchpad, Spaces, or Full Screen apps.
    At all.
Let's go through that conclusion, one by one:
    FULL SCREEN APPS
If you have a relatively big screen (20 iMac for instance), why do you need Safari full screen?  Unless you intend to sit across the room from the computer, no reason.  And there's lots of bright empty space when you do this.  Do you need the Mail app full screen?  If you need reading glasses, maybe, but otherwise, nope.  I find it's easier just to stretch out an app pretty big and leave it at that.
Full screen apps DO offer a nice feature which is making your desktop, menubar, and dock go BYE BYE.  I can see where sometimes this is a useful feature, but typically -- NOPE.  Typically I want access to my dock (to switch between open apps without the added step of cancelling full screen first), and typically I want access to my menubar so that I can glance up and see what time it is or find an app menu quickly.
The only feature I find worthy of praise with full screen apps is that they hide the clutter on your desktop.  But there's an app in the Mac App Store which makes your desktop icons vanish with the touch of a button (CAMOUFLAGE).  I mean, what's the point of a wallpaper if you bury it with desktop clutter or eliminate it with full screen apps?  If it's a busy and distracting wallpaper, umm... you picked bad wallpaper.
    LAUNCH PAD
LAUNCH PAD offers an iOS experience inside OS X.  At first I thought it was completely silly.  After a month now, I kinda get why it's there.  Kinda.
You see, before LP, to duplicate it's functionality, you'd have to organize folders yourself.  Put folders of various apps together.  Place them somewhere in the finder heirarchy.  Then drag those folders into the part of the dock with the trashcan.  Then you could click them open and have access to similarly themed folders of apps.  The problem here, of course, is that unless you're a power user, you'll never do this.
So Apple thought, AH-HA, we'll just drag into OS X a paradigm that users already get from iOS.  Clumping apps together any way you like them.  The misfire, if you ask me, is not allowing users to drag the new iOS folders straight into the dock when finished.  That is to say:  copies of said organized folders.  It's as if Apple's software people have complete contempt for the dock -- and are desperate to have users abandon it.
My problem is that I like having folders in my dock of stuff I need.  It just works, as Steve says.  Going to the same EXACT place every time I need anything is more intuitive and graceful than ADDING an app called Launchpad that launches you into a different finder altogether.  Makes zero sense and THIS is why I say, like FULL SCREEN APPS, LP can basically be abandoned.
By the way:  need proof that Apple has complete contempt for the Dock?
    MISSION CONTROL/SPACES
A month has passed since MC was introduced and SPACES was eliminated.  I dare anyone to tell me why either is needed at all.  Before you get iMiffed, humor me for a moment and hear me out.
The notion of SPACES was that it's a neat way to keep like minded open apps together.  I totally bought into this, back in the day.  So much so that I was iMiffed when it was gone in Lion.  But let's look at this closer.
The REASON why we needed SPACES was that we could have WAY too many windows open at once on a Mac.  Right?  A big mess of windows covering each other up.  Suppose you're surfing in Safari but need iTunes?  But iTunes is hidden.  So what did you do?  You went to Spaces as step one, moused over to your iTunes space as move two, and then clicked it as move three.  Seems like a great solution until the day you discover that you could simply click on iTunes in the dock as move one and arrive at iTunes.  As one step.  Period.  Really simple, right?
Why have Spaces and apps dance around when you can just click the app you want and be done with it?  That's the critical observation to make in order to follow my entire line of reasoning.  Sure, it may look really cool and make Windows machines look like junk, but at the end of the day, why add two steps to something you might do 100 times a day -- switching between apps.
So why OH why did Apple add Spaces?  Simple:  because too many apps were visible at once in one 'desktop' window.  So if you can build many new desktops, there might only be one or two in each.  Great solution.  Right?
Wrong, as it turns out.  Because we still have the two extra steps.  It's a weak solution.  And it's in complete contempt of the Dock, which as it turns out, offers the strongest solution.
The strong solution would be that only one app is visible in your Mac's window at all times.  Say you're in Safari.  Despite having 12 other apps open, you only see Safari.  Your dock tells you that you have other apps open, but nothing else sits in your window BUT the app you're using.  So you want to go to iTunes?  So click on it in the dock and Safari vanishes and iTunes emerges by itself.  No other windows.  What could be simpler?  (This app is freeware known as ISOLATOR.)
If you download and try ISOLATOR, you'll say, umm, okay, but wait:  sometimes I do want more than one window in view.  Okay, fine, turn it off then.  From the handy menu bar menu.  I find that 98% of the time I need ISOLATOR on.  Mileage may vary.
So let's recap.  One third party software removes distracting desktop clutter, the other removes distracting app windows.  Both can be toggled on and off from the menu bar.  One is free, one costs $2.  These two solutions remove the only real feature of FULL SCREEN APPS and make SPACES and it's newfangled cousin MISSION CONTROL pointless.
Need that last one explained?  Well, what's Mission Control but a variant of spaces?  To invoke MC and switch to the needed window are those same two annoying steps Spaces added into the mix.  Nothing was fixed.  Plus, like spaces, you must invest time and energy organizing such spaces.
Why bother?  And so I ask again:  can somebody who's read and tried the above carefully explain to me why Mission Control, Launchpad, and Full Screen Apps are really needed at all?  (Outside of small screened Macs.)  Doesn't the dock and these two sharewares together solve most problems?
    Am I missing something?

I agree with everything you said about full screen apps, mission control and launchpad. For apps that made sense to run full screen, they already could under SL. Launchpad is totally unnecessary and Mission Control is a mere shadow of Expose and Spaces.
However, I feel you have not given due credit to Spaces. The point of Spaces is to let one organise logical desktops for different tasks, not just a way to reduce the number of windows on display. For example, I have a Space for software development where I run Xcode and the iPhone simulator, a Firefox window showing perhaps documentation or some other websites pertaining to software development, a Finder window that is opened in the folder with my design docs. I have another Space where I have the remote login sessions, yet another Space with another Firefox window where I do general surfing and emailing. I can switch between these spaces using a keyboard shortcut, which is much quicker than having to lift my hand off the keyboard, move it over to the mouse, move the mouse pointer over the Dock, find the app and click on it, only to find that it has switched to the wrong window of the app.
Without Spaces, organisation of my desktop is disrupted each time I want to switch task, whereas Spaces allows me to drop everything I am doing, go and do something completely different for a while and go back to my exact previous environment. I have a 27" iMac so am not short of screen space but I use Spaces extensively. BTW, switching Spaces using a keyboard shortcut is a lot faster on SL than the equivalent on Lion, thanks to the gratuitous screen animation of the latter.

  • Thinkpad W520 with Minidock+ Series 3 - Dual monitors and USB fail sporadically

    Hello there,
I wonder if anyone has experienced problems ThinkPad W520 and Mini Dock Plus Series 3 (Part number: 433830U)? I run into problems with dual monitor and USB devices.
For dual monitor setup, sometimes only a single monitor is detected, sometimes no monitors are available in the NVidia control panel. Rigorous display detection doesn't help. Disabling Optimus in BIOS doesn't seem to affect it. After I dock and undock couple of times, reboot, unplug the power cord, it seems to resolve and both monitors work fine.
Also, I run into troubles with USB devices (keyboard/mouse). Sometimes they are not detected at all, but if I plug them into different USB ports on the mini dock, they are detected and work fine.
For me this problem happens about 50% of the time when I dock... Any ideas, insights or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Could it be a faulty Thinkpad, docking station or may be both? I really to upgrade next time to W530, but I've been through so many problems with W520, so I don't know if it's a good idea...
    Thanks so much.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If system update isn't finding anything, and the system works just fine on its own, it could potentially be a faulty Dock.
It could be overloaded.  Could you try testing the dock using just one monitor, and no keyboard or mouse, to see if you run into the same issue.  It would still be a faulty dock, but it may be a potential workaround for the time being.

  • Need videocard that supports dual monitors and Rotation -for PowerMac G5

I'm looking for a videocard that supports dual monitors and Rotation for PowerMac G5. I've got two Dell 2407WFP monitors rotated to 90 -I've been running an ATI Radeon X1900 256 pcie16 but apparently it is over heating -not even exactly sure if that indeed is the case but all the symptoms I've looked up online point to this problem. Anyways -just looking for a card that will do the job -I don't run games -this is just for work machine doing photoshop and related programs. Thanks for any help anyone may have!

    Hi-
A flashed card is a WinPC card that has been modified to accept a Mac ROM to provide for Mac compatibility.
Occasionally, soldering and other physical modifications are required.
Without this modification, a WinPC graphics card cannot be used in a MAc.
Without this modification, Mac users are limited to only a handful of used, OEM options.
The Geforce 7800 GS is the only 7800 card that may be used in a G5 (or G4).
The card must have been or be converted to Mac compatibility.
For dual monitors (DVI) the best performance choices are the Geforce 6800 Ultra (flashed or OEM), a rare, but occasionally available Geforce 6800 GT (flashed), an OEM Radeon X800XT (use ADC/DVI adapter on ADC port) a rare and expensive Radeon FireGL X800 (flashed).
These are the only performance oriented cards to offer dual digital display support.
For less demanding graphics work, an OEM Radeon 9650 offers dual digital output.
Other OEM graphics cards will have either DVI/DVI or ADC/DVI.
All OEM graphics cards are only available as used.
All cards are easiest to obtain on eBay.
Prices vary, but deals can be found.
Expect to pay $150-$325 for any of the cards listed.
Any card considered MUST be stated as Mac compatible, unless you are willing to research and learn how to perform the necessary modifications.

  • Having screen rendering / memory problems with Microsoft Outlook 2013 and full screen mode with large 2560x1440 dual monitors

MS Outlook 2013 seems to work fine for a while until a) enough time passes or b) I have multiple MS Outlook windows open. Then I start to see all sorts of graphical issues ranging from certain parts of the outlook window not rendering to certain functions
locking etc.  Occassionally, when I decrease from full screen I get the screens to render correctly, making me think there's something unique with full screen mode that is causing the issue.   There seems to me to be quite a bit of memory issues
    with this version.
I have a beast of a graphics card, 32gb of RAM, and a fast SSD, so don't think its the machine.
    Thoughts?

    Hi,
Does this happen to other applications?
If it's specific to Outlook, consider to check the hardware acceleration option:
Go to FILE tab -> Options -> Advanced -> Display -> Disable hardware graphics acceleration, turn this option on or off to check the result.
If the issue persists, please also consider whether any 3rd-party add-ins are interfering with Outlook, we can start Outlook in Safe Mode:
Press Win + R, type "outlook.exe /safe" in the blank box, press Enter.
If there's no problem in Safe Mode, disable the suspicious add-ins to verify which caused the problem.
