Dual monitor Apple TV

I have just purchased Apple Tv 3rd gen. And I have a mid 2011 15'' MBP that supports Airplay. I was now wondering if it was possible to run e.g. my MBP Desktop as Desktop1 and the Apple tv as an extended desktop, lets call it desktop 2 so that I can drag random movie clips etc from DT1 to 2 and watch it in Full screen on DT2 (the apple tv) while using DT1. I can only see the option to mirror my desktops.

I don't believe that AirPlay natively supports desktop extension for any models. It supports mirroring on supported Macs running Mountain Lion. You can mirror one of two displays, but there has to be an attached display to mirror.
AirParrot does support desktop extension, in essence "mirroring" a non-existent physically-attached display. But I haven't tried AirParrot, so I can't vouch for its performance.

Mac Mini with dual monitors (Apple & Samsung)

I just read several conflicting and old posts on these boards in addition to an outright, "sorry it'll never work" from an Apple store genius so I'm going to pose the question again all fresh and new like.
I have a Mac mini late 2012, 2.5 Ghz. I also have a 20" DVI Apple Cinema display (1680x1050px). I would like to connect a Samsung Syncmaster 20" (1600x900px) and run it with desktop extended.
The Apple Cinema display works fine of course. The Samsung has both a DVI and a VGA port. I suspect there's a way to do it, and maybe even take a slight performance hit. I even saw some people say here that the Apple store has a cable for this or that. Sorry I'm just not figuring this out for myself.

How do Dual Monitor with my Mac Book Pro (Boot camped with Windows 8) through my mini display port VIA Thunderbolt to a iMac (Model Mid 2011)?

So I have a Mac Book Pro with a bootcamp Windows 8. I dual monitor on the Mac side with my Mid 2011 iMac through my mini display port via thunder bolt cable. In my perfect world, I would be able to switch to the Windows side and have the iMac mirror or extend my windows display for my gaming pleasure, etc. I'm not sure if it's just a simple driver or that it cannot be done. Dual ADC Apple Studio Displays (clear acrylic) with Mac Mini

I currently have the old school Apple Studio Display ADC monitor hooked up to my Mac Mini using the ADC to DVI adapter. I have a second Studio ADC Display and another ADC to DVI adapter to run Dual Displays. I just bought a SEE 2 XTREME DVI to USB which is used for adding multiple monitors. I have it all hooked up. Its just basic plug and play after installing the Mac driver. My second monitor power light just flashes and wont turn on...Any suggestions? I already made sure both monitors and both ADC to DVI adapters worked, and they do. Please Help!! Any info would be greatly appreciated.

yea, I checked that out about the light flashes. I have tried both monitors seperately and they both work fine...just not with this DVI to USB dual monitor adapter. Also, when I had them hooked up individually, I made sure the resolution was set the same in the system preferences > displays.

I have a mid-2009 MacBook Pro running (OS X 10.8.2) Mountain Lion, and recently I rearranged my home workspace so that I can view my TV from my desk while I work.
I would like to set-up my TV as a dual monitor for my MacBook Pro, so I can stream videos on my TV screen and have the whole screen to do work on my MacBook Pro at the same time.
Is this possible? I've seen people use TVs as a mirror display (where it works as their main and only monitor), but never as a fully operational dual display.
As an example, I would like to have my MacBook screen showing a desktop with the whole screen devoted to Photoshop, while I have another desktop running on my TV, which shows an internet browser or other application.
If this is possible, what cords/hardware would I need, and what are the settings that will enable me to do this?
- My TV is a modern flatscreen LCD, and it has two HDMI ports in the back.
- It's about 9-10 feet from my desk.

In your display options, you will just choose extended desktop vs mirrored display.

How can i use dual 23" apple cinema hd display on a new mac mini

i have the old apple displays and really dont want to let go of them yet. Model # M8537ZM/A.
I currently have them both hooked up to my G5 powerPC, thru the DVI to ADC adapter. Model # M8661LL/B
Im tired of not being able to update my plug ins and some sites have become unable to even view without being up to date.
So im looking to buy a new Mac, but i will NOT spend another $2000+ for apple to call it outdated in a few years.
The Mac Mini looks to be a good buy only if i can it up to be on my DUAL 23" Apple Cinema Displays, Model # M8537ZM/A.
Please let me know what i would need to buy to make this all work, or if it not possable.

Wow, I loved those monitors. Ten years ago. If they're still working for you, terrific; they are quite nice. Unfortunately, the ADC cable is going to make using them with modern Macs a bit of a Rube Goldberg experience.
The late-2012 Mini has a Thunderbolt port and an HDMI port. Both can be used to drive those displays.

1- Buy a Thunderbolt/Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter.

Note that each DVI to ADC adapter will need access to AC power to provide power to each monitor. You already know this if you have these adapters.
Just something to think about: There are some people still running old Macs with ADC output who are desperate to find good-condition, larger-size ADC monitors. You might be able to sell yours on eBay or through some other means for more than enough to finance your purchase of new, higher-resolution HDMI or DVI monitors and avoid all the adapters and extra electrical taps.

DUAL MONITOR BUG: One Picture – One Monitor – Different Colors!

There have been several threads discussing that Photoshop CS4 and OS 10.6. show wrong colors in dual monitor setups.
The first one to prove this with a screen capture was jb510-LJ0JJQ in August 2009: http://forums.adobe.com/message/2207312#2207312
Eight months and three OS updates later the problem is still there and makes professional work with more than one monitor a nuisance.
Here's another actual example: A picture and its 100% identical copy showing different colors on one screen!
Here's how to repeat it – try this at home ;-)
1) In the finder make a copy of a rgb picture.
2) Open one of the two identical pics in photoshop.
3) Drag it to the other monitor.
When releasing the mouse button you may see the bug already: the colors will "switch".
4) To verify this go to system presets - monitors - and change the primary monitor (by dragging the menu bar to the other)
5) Now open the identical copy you made in step 1) and see the difference!
Here's a synopsis of suggested workarounds:
1) disable open GL (which seem to makes no difference on my setup)
2) click "desaturate monitor colors" but set desaturation to 0 (which prevents visual switching in step 3) (only if openGL is ON) but also leads to a wrong display in step 4+5
3) make the hardware calibrated monitor your default monitor and strictly avoid changes or dragging pics to the other monitor (which seems to be the only reliable method)
4) some guys even force both monitors to use the profile of their hardware-calibrated monitor (using color sync) to make sure they see what they should see on at least that one monitor. What a stone-age workaround for the the world's leading imaging program!
Considering that reliable colors in professional (=multi monitor) settings should be the most basic function of photoshop this mayor malfunction should be solved with CS5! Otherwise we might have to live with it for some more years...
Have Adobe and Apple realized this bug and on their agenda? Will it be gone with OS 10.6.3? Can anyone explain the reasons for this bad bug? Is there a "officially" recommended workaround?

But man, this is no minor bug! Consistent colors are the by far most important basic function of photoshop. If you cannot rely on the colors in photoshop you can as well use "Preview" and "Word" for print production ;-)
Carson, how did Apple react to your complaint? What do you mean with "they don't get it". Do they not see it? Or can't they get it right?

Dual Monitor Startup Problem on MacPro - Solved

I have a model 53135LL/A = mid 2010 MacPro with 8 cores, DUAL monitor cards and monitors, 24GB memory, running Lion 10.7.3. It is important to note that I am also using the Apple bluetooth Magic Mouse and the smaller, bluetooth keyboard (no numeric keypad). This unit was supplied with Lion in December 2011 and has had a startup problem from the beginning as follows:
1 - when starting from a cold start the dual monitor positions are reversed from the correct position
2 - additionally the USB and firewire connected devices (e.g. Wacom tablet, 2 card readers) do not function properly.
The workaround for me has been to start the system, wait for the logon screen, then click restart. Upon restart everything comes up and functions correctly.
Specifics on my setup and starting problems:
1 - My main monitor (Monitor #2) is a large gamut monitor that is located to the right. This monitor is connected to card slot 1 as that is the faster card slot (pcx16). The second monitor (Monitor #1) is an ordinary unit and connected to card slot 2 (pcx4). The monitors are set up as an extended desktop.
2. The Wacom tablet (Intuous 3 wide) is connected to USB port on rear of machine. CF card reader by Delkin is connected to Firewire on rear of machine, and an SD card reader is connected to USB on the rear of the machine.
3. My dock is positioned on the left side of the left monitor. The menu bar is along the top of the left monitor, and all desktop icons are on the left monitor. The right monitor has no items on it.
On a typical cold start, as mentioned above, the apple logo appears on the right and then the logon screen appears on the right.
If I proceed to logon at that point, all the desktop items move to the right monitor and the computer thinks the positions are reversed. In other words, it behaves as though the right monitor (#2) is on the left of the desktop and left monitor (#1) is on the right.
Additionally, the Wacom tablet using either pen or mouse does not map over the full desktop range. If I use either card reader and then eject the card, no further card insertions will be recognized.
To fix this, I simply restart the machine thru the apple menu and everything comes up correctly.
I had discovered, that instead of completing the logon on a bad cold start, I could simply restart from the logon screen and all would work correctly.
On occasion, the logon screen would come up on the left monitor (as it should do) and in that case, if I log on all works correctly.
I have worked with Apple support on the phone, clearing setup ram etc. Have had the unit in to Apple store for hardware check, all OK. Next suggestion was reload OS and start over - no thanks.
SO - Here is the latest.
If I turn off my keyboard and mouse before starting the machine, then wait for the logon screen to appear - It starts correctly, with the logon screen on the left. I can then turn on my keyboard and mouse and all works as it should.
Bottom line - there appears to be a startup issue with Bluetooth devices from a cold start. Note that once the machine has been used for a bit, I can turn it off for short periods of time (e.g. 30 minutes) and it will start correctly even with the mouse and keyboard turned on.

The graphics card has two connectors on the panel one is the standard VGA and I thought that the other was a DVI interface, but it looks like It has 10 rows of 3 pins plus the ground bar for the DVI. I can't find a cable or adapter to fit this connector.

I suspect it's an ADC connector. If it's the stock graphics card that shipped with the 800MHz Quicksilver that's almost certainly the case. You can buy an ADC to DVI connector cable for around $30 (although don't confuse it with the more expensive DVI to ADC adapter). ADC combines a DVI video signal, power to drive a monitor and a USB signal for a hub in the monitor into one cable/connector. It's specific to Apple, although even Apple now use the more industry standard DVI.

Dual monitor possible on G3 Beige 300?

I would like to be able to use a dual monitor set up, one for all my menus, and the other for workspace in each program. I am running OS 9.2 now but will be upgrading to OS X shortly after the holidays. Is this possible? What kind of hardware/software would I need. I already have 2 monitors, both 15 pin traditional PC monitors, one already being used by the G3. Any help would be great.

The Mac has been able to support multiple monitors arranged into an "Extended desktop" since the Mac-II days. Every well-behaved Mac Application can be used with it, and the monitors can be completely different and it still works great. The left half of a window can be shown on the left screen in 32-bit color, the right half can be on the right screen in Black-and-White. When you scroll it, they move together. There is no additional software needed.
Each display needs a Video card for its screen buffer. There is one built into the Beige G3 motherboard. Its 2 MB VRAM standard can be expanded to 6 MB VRAM. The built-in had a "two-row" connector -- you need a VGA adapter or Multiple Scan adapter to change to three-row "VGA" connector AND provide the right code so that the right resolutions can be supported.
Additional display adapters can be plugged into an available PCI slot. Mac-specific ATI cards with 16 MB VRAM or more and VGA connector are popular, and well-supported into Mac OS X. Allan Jones recommended a list on a post nearby:

Dual Monitor Audio Setup?

Hi there!
Getting my new Mac Mini next week.
Question about setup - dual monitor and audio.
I will be connecting to my TV via DVI - HDMI and monitor via MDP - HDMI.
What are my best options for audio?
Monitor doesn't have speakers so I was thinking of using my current 2.1 system with a 3.5mm jack. I know I can use a splitter from the 3.5mm port on the Mini for analogue sound but is there any way of outputting digital audio to the TV and analogue to my speakers.
On my PC audio is carried to the TV via HDMI so auto switches audio when TV is detected, can the Mini do similar?

1. The mini's m-DVI and m-DP do not carry audio.
2. Switching from analog to digital audio is a mechanical process that occurs in the audio mini-port. The digital mini-plug is about 2 mm longer than the analog plug and effects the change.
3. You might consider using the audio port as the source of digital audio for your TV and get a USB adapter for analog audio for your speakers.

Dual Monitor Setup/Home Network/Sync--11" MBA & 21.5" iMac via Thuderbolt cable?

11" MBA & 21.5" iMac both purchased in August 2011 running Lion
Is it possible to setup my MBA & iMac where they will sync? I have them connected via thinderbolt and want to be able to connect when I get home and sync all my folders [notes, cases, papers, etc...]?
If this is not possible is there a way to transfer files between my two machines using the Thunderbolt cable? I ask because even though my MBA has a Thunderbolt port, there is not "Fire Wire" option under "System Preferences →Network" like there is on my iMac?
In a perfect world I want to be able to hook up my MBA & iMac via Thunderbolt cable, have them both controlled by my Magic Mouse & Keyboard I use with my iMac as dual monitors and be able to transfer files back and forth freely. I understand this may be a lot to ask but thought I should throw it out there just in case there was a way and I was not doing something right.
