Dual Monitor Capability

I was wondering if there was a way to have dual monitors hooked up to a TSeries ThinkPad? I currently have dual monitors and a Lenovo tower and was going to switch to a TSeries Thinkpad w/docking station but I don't want to lose the dual monitors when I am at my desk. Can anyone advise?

Yes it is possible if you use the Advanced Mini-Dock, there are several posts on how to do this.
The easiest way to set it up is to attach one monitor to the
dock's VGA and one to the dock's DVI and create a profile in
ThinkVantage Presentation Director, (shortcut Fn+F7).
When
creating your profile and selecting screens there is the option to
select output to DVI and VGA, this is only available if you first
de-select the internal screen. It will also allow you to clone the
screens or select extended desktop.
When docked the VGA port on the TP is disabled.
Another method would be to use the DualHead2Go solutions from Matrox.
Hope this helps

  • Dual Monitor capable H530s

Simple question, is the H530s  capable of dual monitor/extended desktop support?
I have an HDMI plug and an analog plug. There is NO DVI plug.

Hi campcuser!: Indeed you are missing something that other port is either a HDMI or a Display port that's how you get 2 monitors on one video adapter!
just make sure you get the proper cable to accomplish it
hope this enlightens, clarifies as well as helps you
    good luck

  • HELP! I have a dual monitor setup and can't use any of them for video??

    1)I have a GeForce4 MX 64MB VRAM card installed.
    2) the back is dual monitor capable, meaning it has 2 vga (CRT) ports, one on the right and an another adapted plug with a vga port on the end. ( i have no idea which type it was originaly.)
    3) I have a big dell LCD
    THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED:
the adapter plug ripped off, reveal copper thread things and is now unusable. Although saddened, I was not worried because I don't use a dual monitor anyway and I switched to the other port. BUT THE VIDEO DOESNT WORK ON THAT PORT. I can't figure it out it just doesnt load any video?
the truth is i would rather have a dvi cable set up because i assume its better.
    thank you for the help,
    I need it

oops! whatever it was I reinstalled OS and it left

  • Lost Dual Monitor capabilites after recent update

After a recent update, our terminal server users no longer have the ability to have actual dual monitor capability without it just spanning over two screens. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a fix for this?

  • M91p dual monitor graphics card issue

    Hello,
My work recently purchased a Thinkcentre m91p - model number 7052C9U without realizing that it was not dual monitor capable.  We're a small business and have no IT division so it is up to me to solve this problem for myself.
Ive been doing some research via google but have not come to any real conclusion about which graphics card I should get that is compatible and will allow me to use 2 monitors.
Can anyone here direct me in this regard? Im looking for a quality yet inexpensive graphics card, compatible with my model of Thinkcentre, that will allow me to go dual monitor.
    Thank you in advance,
    Brian

I'm confused, it has 2 monitor ports, a VGA port and a DisplayPort.
If you are not using a DisplayPort capable monitor, which many are not, you do need an adapter for that port, ie. DisplayPort to DVI.

  • Dual monitor setup without using the ADC?

Would it be possible to run a dual monitor setup using a DVI splitter cable from my (2009)Mac Pro?
I've seen some old forums referring to the 2006 models saying that this wouldn't work and instead you'd get the same image on both screens but the newer Mac Pros state they have "Dual-Link DVI ports".
Just wondering whether this means what I think it means and you can connect two monitors via a dual link cable and get essentially, two monitors running independently as opposed to the same thing on both??
Hope it's staightforward and me just being slow.

The GT120 features one Dual Link DVI-I port and one Mini DisplayPort .
The DVI-I is Dual Link capable, and also can be directly adapted to VGA.
Single-Link DVI is a serial interface that carries three data bits in each signaling interval, as well as control signals. In general, Single-Link supports displays up to 1920 wide. Dual Link DVI is the same except that it carries six data bits in each signaling interval, supporting displays over 1920 wide.
DVI screen drawing is very similar to VGA screen drawing, and the data sent are digital "scan lines" left-to-right row data, top-to-bottom with entire screen data sent about every 60 Hertz. Analog VGA signals are sent at the same time on a separate set of pins.
DisplayPort and its Mini variant are inherently a packet interface, but can be coerced to produce a "Dual Mode" signal that approximates Single-Link DVI. Getting Dual-Link DVI or VGA from DisplayPort interface requires a non-trivial converter than contains chips and requires power.
    Executive Summary:
If you have one display that is wider than 1920 or VGA, attach to the DVI-I connector with an appropriate cable.
Running a Mini DisplayPort display from the Mini DisplayPort requires only a cable.
Single-Link DVI can be had from the Mini DisplayPort with a cheap adapter.
Dual-Link DVI or VGA requires an expensive Active Powered converter which can cost US$100.

  • Thinkpad T420, Integrated Graphics, Dual Monitors

Warning: this isn't really a problem thread. I've looked and looked but can't find a definitive answer for my question.
I'm seriously considering a Thinkpad T420 for a new work laptop. I've heard great things from many people, but the most important question has yet to be answered: if I get one with integrated graphics (Intel HD 3000), will dual monitors work with VGA and DisplayPort with a DVI adapter? It's crucial that I'm able to use two external monitors simultaneously and I'm sick of using TwinView because I can't rotate a monitor. Can anyone confirm that this works?

    according to tabook.pdf
Intel HD Graphics 3000 in processor,
external analog monitor support via VGA DB-15 connector and
    digital monitor support via DisplayPort (supports single-link DVI-D via cable 45J7915);
    supports dual independent display;
    Maximum external resolution: 2560x1600 (DisplayPort)@60Hz;
    2048x1536 (VGA)@75Hz; 1920x1200@60Hz (single-link DVI-D via cable 45J7915)
So, it looks like the hardware is certainly capable of it.

  • Can I connect my A1225 IMAC'S as a Dual Monitors?

Can I connect my A1225 IMAC'S as a Dual Monitors?

I have two A1225 IMAC monitors that I want to run as dual monitors to give me the capability to use one screen for editing and the other as a home computer.  I have a mini display port to mini display port cable and wanted to see if I could possibly perform this action.  Is this the correct cable or not?

  • Dual Monitor, Mac Mini

    Hi
I have looked around and most places say buy this dual head 2 go thing but i dont want to spend loads, anyway.
I have an old mac mini G4 with Raedon 9200 graphics card, and so can i get dual monitors working with my mac? I dont care how, anyway possible, i would like to know thanks.
Also im looking into getting a new intel mac mini would that support dual monitors?
I did order some bits off amazon, and now i want to get my vga TV and vga monitor going together, i bought a DVI splitter, 1 male and 2 female connectors. From them i have an adaptor on each going from dvi to vga and having vga cables going to each my TV and monitor.
Anyway even better if you can help me get it working with those cables, no matter if you cant but please let me know if there are other ways. Thanks. Any help much appreciated.

    The simple answers are:
I have an old mac mini G4 with Raedon 9200 graphics card, and so can i get dual monitors working with my mac? I dont care how, anyway possible, i would like to know thanks.
There is no native support for dual display output from the mini. It cab potentially support mirroring with a splitter, but both displays would have to be capable of the same resolution(s) in order for that to work, and even then if they are not identical the mini could be readily confused by receiving two conflicting display IDs.
An external device - namely the Matrox product - would be needed.
Also im looking into getting a new intel mac mini would that support dual monitors?
No. While it has different video controllers, the display output is the same single video DVI-I as the G4 mini. It can thus be split with the same degree of success (or otherwise) for mirroring, but without such as the Matrox unit, not spanned across displays.

  • HP Pavilion dv7-2250ed and dual monitor setup

    Good evening,
Currently I own a HP Pavilion dv7-2250ed notebook using a dual monitor setup (notebook display + extra monitor)
I wondered if it would be possible to hook 2 monitors to this laptop? (notebook display + extra monitor + extra monitor)
If this causes the problem, the notebook display isn't requered.
Also, if not, is there a dockingstation for this brand which supports the above?
    Kind Regards,
    Cor van Noorloos

I have attempted to connect one monitor via HDMI and the other one via the VGA interface.
Using Windows 7 OS and "default configurations" (Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display\Screen Resolution) it is possible to use both external monitors as desktop. However the laptop screen will go blank. So at any time it appears to be possible to have an extended desktop with only two screens.
    - Does HP have any drivers/solutions that make it possible to extend the desktop from "Mobile PC" display to two additional desktops?
    - Has anyone tried third party software  (e.g.. UltraMon)?
    - Is there a technical restriction (e.g.. Videocard capability)?
    - How about using a Linux OS (e.g.. Ubuntu)?
    - What external Hardware exists that would enable me to extend my desktop to three or more monitors simultaneously?
    Many thanks in advance.
It's the graphics card and the number of physical connections available.  You might have 3 connections (notebook display being one) but the graphics card likely does not support more than 2 monitors.  Intel graphics only support 2, however you may be able to find some AMD chips that will support more however that would be a major upgrade.

  • [SOLVED] openbox margins with dual monitors

    Hi community,
I have stumbled to a nasty problem on my first incursion to dual monitors in openbox.
I'm using xrandr with this command (which works just fine BTW):
xrandr --output LVDS --mode 1280x800 --primary --output VGA-0 --mode 1280x1024_60.00 --gamma 1.0:1.4:0.85 --right-of LVDS
and have set a Virtual screen in xorg.conf of 2560 x 1024 pixels.
But, my laptop monitor only handles 1280x800, while my external LCD monitor has 1280x1024, so there is a virtual area under my laptop screen which i'm not using, but i dont really care about that.
The problem is that when I'm setting screen margins, so that maximized windows will respect the panels in the bottom (tint2), in rc.xml (or by obconf) the margins are applied to the virtual screen and only are practical on the external monitor wich has more pixel height.
I'm really missing some kind of per monitor margin settings in openbox, maybe there is and i haven't found it? It makes me wonder because openbox can maximize windows to a single monitor, even if the whole layout it's treated like a virtual screen, so it has some way of distinguishing between them.
I would appreciate any suggestions, thanks.

TL;DR - I'm not aware of any acceptable solution at the moment.
Basically, what you're having problems with, is the "dead area." It can really be quite a pain in the butt if window managers or other screen aware applications don't anticipate it properly. To my knowledge, Openbox doesn't support margins on a monitor-by-monitor basis. In reality, you shouldn't need to be setting margins anyway. Tint2 should be reporting itself as a taskbar, and Openbox should be respecting that.
I have dead area too, with multiple monitors, and Openbox respects both of the KDE taskbars I have running (one on each monitor). (I use KDE and simply replaced Kwin with Openbox.) This tells me that tint2 should be able to cooperate with Openbox. I remember trying tint2 a while ago, and didn't fine it adequate in a dual monitor environment (it was probably a year ago or so). tint2 would need to be setting the _NET_WM_STRUT_PARTIAL hint, and I'm not sure if it is (or if it's doing it properly). See http://standards.freedesktop.org/wm-spe … #id2507618
Also, I do know that the developer for Openbox recently got a dual monitor setup, and she's been adding additional support for dual monitors a little at a time. Hopefully with 3.5, there will be a lot more support. (Margin support for multiple monitors would be great, because it could be a good utility knife for applications that don't care about multi-monitors setups and don't set the proper hints.)
If you're capable of modifying tint2, my course of action would be to try something that works (like the KDE taskbars) and record the hints being set there. Then compare them with tint2 and try to mirror KDE's setup. (If you're a programming lacking experience with X and related nonsense, I'd be more than willing to offer what guidance I have.)
Also, I developed a panel myself (and got pretty far along) using the PyGTK toolkit... But I can't remember if I solved this problem or not. I'll try to check it out and get back to you. (I got as far as implementing a widget system that includes a task list, system tray, clock, menus... It just isn't polished very well. My original intention was for it to be a more robust PyPanel with dual monitor support.)

  • T420s dock - dual monitors?

looking to do dual monitors (laptop lcd not included) with my t420s and was wondering if the dock will give me the ability to do that? thanks!

    Hi, kaitanium
I browsed the Lenovo website and found these docking stations compatible with your system. The Mini Dock and the Mini Dock plus should both allow two video ports to be used simultaneously to create seperate displays. The Mini Dock plus has the capability to show three displays if the hardware in the computer meets the specs. So, yes, two seperate displays is possible with the correct dock.
    Best,

  • Pavilion P6610f dual monitors

A previous post on this topic left the user's question unanswered.    I have a Pavilion p6610f Product #BM417AA#ABA.  Since this machine has both a VGA output AND a DVI output, it is possible to have DUAL monitors (working simultaneously) provided that one monitor is analog (VGA) and the other monitor is digital (DVI)?  I dont' want to go to the expense of the hardware if only one of the two monitors can be used at a time.  Thank you.

The chipset on that motherboard is capable to handle dual monitors. And I found this onthe motherboard page: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02560084&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&cc=us&dlc=en...
Integrated graphics: concurrent use of the DVI and VGA ports is supported.
So, yes it appears to support both ports.

  • Veriton X4630G Dual Monitor Support

Hi,  I have an Acer Veriton X4630G (Windows 7 64 bit) with a single monitor in the DVI port.  Acer Chat Support told me I cannot run multiple monitors simultaneously in the VGA or 2 DisplayPort ports.   Anyone running at least two panels on this PC?  If yes, will it work on any two ports?

I am sorry that you received the response you did. From everything that I am looking at, this desktop should be capable of supporting a dual monitor setup.
