  • Remote/Dual Monitor for Mac Mini

Bottom Line Up Front:  I want my Mini to remain connected to my stereo receiver/HDTV and have a second monitor, keyboard and mouse in another room.
I have a late 2009 Mini in my entertainment center used for photos, music and streaming.  During my remodel, I had two ethernet cables run from behind the entertainment center to my office downstairs (I was trying to future proof..) I have now decided how I would like to use the cables, if possible.
The Mini is an underutilized computer (as is the circa 2006 iMac in my office but that is another story).  In an effort to reduce the number of computers I own, I would like to have a monitor, keyboard, and mouse in the office connected to the Mini in the entertainment center while keeping the stereo receiver/HDTV upstairs connected, enabling me to get rid of the old iMac in the office.  I want the displays to be mirrored (showing the same image).
My late 2009 Mini is suitable for my needs, but woud consider upgrading to a new Mini if that is what it takes to get what I want.   If there is a way to do what I want with my current setup, would like to hear it.
If I do upgrade, what would be the best way to connect the monitor in the office?  I would keep the HDMI output connected to the stereo receiver/HDTV.
One way I think would work is use airplay and an Apple TV (would need to purchase) to mirror to the monitor in the office and use one of the ethernet cables to carry the keyboard/mouse inputs (Bluetooth won't reach).
Would a Thundrbolt to ethernet adapter carry the audio/video signal to the office?  I couldn't find anything definiteve saying this possible. This would entail buying two TB adapters which is quickly approaching the price of an Apple TV.
Any thoughts, recommendations or suggestions are welcome.
    Thanks!

  • Best LED TV  to be used as monitor for Mac Mini (Late 2012 model)

    Hi All,
I am having a mac mini (late 2012 model). Now, I am planning to buy a HD LED Tv from my home. So I would like to know which one will be best suited to be used as a monitor for mac mini so that I can buy a TV which will be used as both TV and Monitor

You'll want something that's 1080p. Best to have one with HDMI input, too. Other than that, let price and warranty be your guide.

  • Dual Monitors on Mac Mini Late 2014 not working on Dell S2340Lc

    Hey guys,
Got a mac mini and using it mainly for work. Working for an ISP and no one has used macs and I've opted to be the poor sucker that gets to deal with old people that don't know how to mac very goodly.
I have two Dell S2340Lc monitors. I have one connected up via HDMI and that works perfectly fine. I turned off the mac, I plugged in Monitor 2 with a MiniDP/Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter, powered on the mac and whilst it was booting, it had the Apple logo and the loading bar on the Dell display plugged in to the thunderbolt to hdmi adapter and then once it loaded up the log in screen, it went to the HDMI display. I logged in and in the displays section, the monitor plugged in to the thunderbolt to hdmi adapter isn't being detected, however I can plug it in to a Samsung 55 Inch Smart TV and it works just fine. I can set up dual monitors between the TV and the monitor in HDMI, but the Dell S2340Lc will only work with a HDMI cable into the HDMI port on the mac mini and will not work through the thunderbolt to hdmi adapter. On the display it just says that there is no signal coming from the computer.
Just wondering if any of you apple gurus had any ideas as to why this isn't working?
    Thanks!

    What if you switch monitors?
What happens if yo only have the Thunderbolt>HDMI>Dell monitor connected?

  • Using Acer LCD TV as monitor for mac mini

    Hi
I'm trying to use an Acer LCD TV (AL2671W) as a monitor for my mac mini.
The only way I can get it to work is booting the mini when connected to a different monitor then plugging in the AL2671W - this then works fine. If I boot when connected to the AL2671W I receive a No Signal message.
Any help would be much appreciated!

If you have a second computer at your disposal that can be networked to your mini, consider establishing a VNC connection between the two. You can then remotely make a resolution selection on the mini while the Acer TV is attached to the mini, even in the absence of a useable screen being displayed on the Acer. Once you have remotely made the selection of your choosing that gives a satisfactory display on the Acer, it should stay that way permenantly.

  • Can i use pc laptop monitor for mac mini?

I am going to be out of the country for a year - maybe in Africa, most likely in area not well served by technology.  I have to use PC for work so have a think pad.  I also have an ipad and a mac mini.  I really want to take my mac mini (mm) - it bridges a gap between these two.  It's small enough and I can use my bluetooth keyboard for both ipad and mm.  I can only take a suitcase plus backpack...so I am really not gonna haul a monitor.  Is there a way to use PC laptop as display for mm?  Weird, I know but I can only take so much...
thanks for any help you can give.  cheers

do you think one of these new USB powered mobile monitors (LED/LCD) might work - toshiba and lenovo both have them.  they say they are compatible with any windows computer - but why not mac?

  • Dual monitor on Mac Mini

Which model can I have dual monitors set up?
    Thanks

The mac mini does not support dual monitors at all. The iMac Duo Core supports dual monitors with mirroring or extended desktop. Any of the other iMacs that support dual monitors only supports mirror mode. The Macbook Pro supports dual monitors in mirror or extended mode also.

  • Dual monitors on mac mini

I'm trying to decide on a mac mini or whether I need a mac pro.  How would I hook up two monitors to a mini ?  I have an NEC PA241W with a Display Port, DVI and VGA array of graphic ports and a Samsung with a DVI and VGA port.  I use them quite a bit for photo imaging editing.
Apple is telling me I need to go from the Thunderbolt mini output to the NEC and then go from the NEC to the Samsung for daisy chaining.  I don't know if I could go into the monitor via Display Port and out to the Samsung via the NEC DVI port ?  Or do I need to find a 3rd party "box" that will manage the connections and/or daisy chaining ??  Anybody know or have ideas ?
    Thanks
    Tony M

Mac mini comes with a HDMI to DVI Adapter. Then you can connect the NEC PA241W with the Display Port and the Samsung with DVI Port.
The Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort adapter is like this:

  • 50-inch monitor for Mac Mini

Greetings, I am thinking about setting up a mac mini as a iphoto library kiosk in a showroom. The space commands a large monitor and I'm think about a 50" set. Does anyone have advice on a monitor that will work well at this size with the limited video capability of the mini?

You know, I was very close to purchasing a 40" Sony XBR when the Vizio went on sale at the local warehouse store for $999. After comparing the features and the picture (store only never took an XBR home) we've been very happy with the Vizio. General concensus over at the High Def Forum is the Vizio is great bang for the buck - several who own both say the Sony isn't worth the difference. Anyway, my new Mac Mini looks terrific on it and even my wife is sold on the idea of having the computer as part of the entertainment system. Movies, internet, iTunes, podcasts and other downloaded content now supplement our TV time. Google Earth is amazing at 42".

  • Battery powered monitor for mac mini..

I'm wondering if there is any battery powered small monitor that i can buy as mac mini monitor..the idea is i can use mac mini while on the go..

How are you going to power the mini, when you're on the go?
(You can see where this is going..... for whatever you say to that question, I'm going to say: "use the same power source to power the monitor".)

  • Great CRT Monitor for Mac Mini

Having purchased a Mac Mini a few weeks ago I was horrified to read all the posts on this site reporting problems with monitors. In need of a new CRT monitor I asked the folks at Mac Zone for a recomendation and then placed an order for the 17" Viewsonic Ultra Brite E70F+ ($130 something).
When the monitor arrived a few days later I took it out of the box, plugged it into the Mini using the adaptor supplied by Apple and turned it on.
The rest, as the saying goes, is history! A great monitor and it works with the Mini (or at least My Mini) without a hitch.

Here's one that may be worth a look:

Whatever you buy under these many criteria, I strongly suggest you try before you buy.  If that is not possible, get written commitment that all features you must have are compatible with your Mac.

  • Second monitor for Mac Mini

    Hi - some help please.
My mac mini is connected to a 27" thunderbolt display screen and runs logic pro 9.  I am trying to connect my macbook pro as a second monitor for the mixer/piano roll to be open alongside the arrange window on the thunderbolt display.   I can't get it to work.  Some help please would be appreciated

It looks like a program called Air Display can also do that:

  • IPad 2 as only monitor for Mac Mini

hello. I own a Mac Mini (2010) and will be traveling overseas. I do not own a laptop, but I do own a WIFI iPad 2. Is there a way to use the iPad 2 as a monitor for my Mac Mini? I would not need to access any of the touch screen features on the iPad, just simply use it as a small monitor. If someone could provide me with a link or a step by step solution it would be very appreciated.
    thanks.
    Gus.

There are apps that allow using an iPod as a secondary monitor for a computer. I do not think it can be the only monitor but maybe after you first use a regular monitor to setup the iPad monitor. You will have to look at the description of the apps/go to theri support site
