Dual monitor full screen woes

I generally use two screens (two separate monitors) while working on my macbook pro at home. the issue i face is that if I need to use an app in full screen, say i watch a movie on one of the screens, the other one is rendered useless and only shows a black screen. Is there someway to use both my screens as separate spaces, whereby I'm able to use full screen apps on both my monitors at the same time?

I haven't seen this occur on my Macbook pro with secondary or triple monitors.  Is this happening with all fullscreen content (eg. YouTube)?  What browser and Flash Player Version are you using?  Also, is this a retina macbook?

Hy to everyone, I have a G5 with dual monitor out set to 1024x768 each, for a total resolution of 2048x768, i created images graphics of that resolution(2048x768)like jpg tiff, flash, and I want to display these enterely on the two monitors not only in one, when i maximize the windows it fit the images only in one screen and not in two screen. What i have to setup? is there some software that manage the desktop and windows of the mac?
    Thanks a lot.

No, if i set Quicktime in full screen mode the movie fit only one monitor and not 2, even if my movie i set to 2048x768 pixel and my 2 monitors are 2 1024x768 in desktop mode!! I Can manually strech the quick time to reach the 2048x768 resulution, but i see the toolbar of quicktime and i dont wan't it.
    Thanks a lot.

  • PSE 6 - Dual Monitor Full Screen Problem

I've got a Thinkpad (with NVIDIA Quadro M140 integrated graphics) connected via DVI to a Samsung SyncMaster 206BW monitor using Vista Enterprise.
I've set up my workspace as Dual Monitor, DualView.   My Font DPI is set at 96 (Default).
When I click Maximize on the Thinkpad LCD, PSE 6 opens fully and correctly.
When I click Maximize on the Samsung external monitor, PSE 6 opens a window that is larger than the monitor AND there are no bars at the bottom to shift the display.  Therefore, I cannot see about 15% of the right side of the window when in Maximum/Full Screen mode.
PSE 6 appears to be the only program that has this problem.
I cannot adjust the monitor, since I'm connected via DVI.
    All video drivers are current.
Is there a fix for this problem?

  • Yosemite - dual monitor; full screen option

I have a Mac Mini running the latest version of Yosemite. I have two monitors. Because I want to use Spaces, I do not have separate desktops on each monitor. My problem comes in when I click on a window "expand" button. When I do this the window expands to fill its current monitor. What is new with Yosemite (at least in my experience) is that all content on the other monitor (doesn't matter if it primary or not) is blanked out. Presumably the purpose of this is to allow someone to focus better on the task at hand. However, focus is not the only reason why someone would want to fill their current monitor's screen with a single window. It could just be used as a short-cut way to enlarge the current window.
I'd appreciate any suggestion as to how to work around this besides dragging the corner of each window to fill the monitor screen. And I'd recommend that if this behavior is as planned, that users have an option to [ignore | leave as is] the other monitor's content.
Thanks in advance for any reply.

  • Monitoring full screen HDV over firewire from camcorder

    Hello,
I am a recent switcher from Windows to Mac. One thing I haven't figured out how to do yet on my Mac is to simply use my MacBook Pro screen to monitor (in full screen) the HDV video that comes off the Firewire cable of my Sony camcorder.
On Windows XP, I used to use VLC for this. I posted a message a few weeks ago asking for help with this on my camcorder's forum:
    http://www.sonyhdvinfo.com/showthread.php?t=13728
but haven't gotten any solution yet.
The thing is that the Mac version of VLC doesn't have the 'Open from Capture Device' feature that the Windows version does, and I haven't been able to figure out any other way with Final Cut or Quicktime on my new Mac to do this.
Again, I simply want to MONITOR full screen the HDV video that comes off my Sony camcorder's firewire. If I use the logging tool in Final Cut, I only get a small preview window (which I can't seem to get full screen). Same in Quicktime. Of course I can CAPTURE the tape to Final Cut and then playback full screen, but that is a step I'm hoping to avoid.
Do you Mac folks have any other tricks for doing this?
    Thanks for the help!

Thanks for all your replies, but I still haven't found a solution for this one:
    @Red Door:
It looks as you might be right! Thanks for confirming what I've found to be true: this may not be possible on a Mac!
    @Studio X:
Thanks for this idea. I already do this when I have a HDTV available. But the idea here is that I'd like to be able to use my laptop monitor for this when I'm on the road (and don't have an HDTV, or the HDMI cable, available). As I said, with my Windows laptop and VLC this was a great solution to monitor my HD camera when I'm on the road with just my laptop and camcorder. Its a shame I can't get my gorgeous new MacBook Pro with the beautiful almost-HD resolution monitor to do this!
    @Thomas & Andy:
Thanks for these recommendations .. they almost worked! I tried both and neither quite did the job. BTV looks like a really old program (last release 2002?). It looked promising, but alas couldn't get it to recognize my HDV camcorder.
Monitor Magic looked even more promising, as it is a new piece of software specifically made for this purpose. Indeed, it did recognize my HDV camcorder no problem, but alas it still couldn't do the job. First, you can't monitor full screen! (That's my whole point.) Additionally, I didn't get any sound and also the video quality was really poor in the preview window. No way to deinterlace and lots of dropped frames. I got a better preview window out of Final Cut and Quicktime.
Anyway, thanks for your recommendations but my search continues! (At least until a better version of VLC for Mac comes out!)
I remain really surprised how hard this is to accomplish on a Mac! Macs have such a good reputation for video/media editing. Regardless, this was pretty tough to get working on my Windows laptop until I discovered VLC.
    Thanks again!

  • Dual-monitor setup + screen rotation

Hello, I want to use my desktop computer with a dual-monitor setup. I have connected both monitors successfully, but problems arise after this point.
The first problem is that they both just display the same screen and that xrandr only detects one screen called "Screen 0". I can change the screen resolution with it, so at least it sees things correctly, but I don't know how to extend my screen area to a new desktop. Not sure if this is relevant, but they're both monitors of the same model.

The second problem is that I can't rotate my screen (I want this because it has pivot functionality). I'm using the xf86-video-ati driver.

  • RDWA - limit to one monitor full screen for IT support staff

In our shop, we use RDWA to access the Windows 7 virtual desktops, server is Windows Server 2012.
Since IT support staff have two monitors, when they login to user's virtual desktop for testing / support purpose, the display will be spanned across two monitors.  We want to keep the user's virtual desktop in one monitor and use the other monitor
to other purpose, e.g. searching internet for problem resolution, email, etc.
Is there a way to restrict the virtual desktop to show up full screen in just one monitor.
I have searched the forum but seems not getting the answer.
    Assistance appreciated.

    Hi TP,
    Thanks for your reply.
In your previous response, you mentioned there are other methods for IT support staff to connect to the user's virtual desktop.
    >>  "How exactly are they using it to connect to a Windows 7 VM?  Are they using the Connect to remote PC tab and entering the name of the VM, or do they have access to the same virtual desktop collection as the user, or are they
logging on to RDWeb using the end user's credentials, or ?"
May I know how the other connection methods can be achieved?
    Thanks for your advise.

  • CS6 monitor  - full screen weirdness....

    Win 7 , Quadro 3800FX ...CS6...
Has anyone else seen or experienced this little weirdness.
Minimise PPRO CS6...ande do something like go to Win Explorer, PhotoShop (or whatever)..close "whatever"   to discover that PPRO Program monitor is full screen on Primary Monitor.  As if  CTRL-Grave (ctrl-tilde) has been invoked.
Mouse to top right where Program Monitor is located ( default position usually) and the PPRo interface restores itself as ( timeline , project panel etc..)

Never seen that Behavior on my system, I use an Nvidia GT470

  • Forcing secondary monitor full screen

I have to flash projector files: one acts as a controller to
chose a flv(s). The other plays the selected video (through
    localconnect).
Th second projector (the "player" if you will) needs to load
full screen in-order to display on a TV properly. However, adding
fscommand("fullscreen","true"); forces the projector to load in the
    primary monitor.
Is there a way to assign what monitor it should load full
screen into? If not, can you think of a way around it? (3rd party)
    Thanks!
EDIT: Did some more research. Let me define my question
farther... Is there a way to do this with out jugglor?

Yes FlashJester Jugglor can do exactly this.
    http://www.jugglor.com
Download a FREE evaluation copy and go to
Setup Settings -> Windows Settings -> Multimonitor
    Support -> Show the
    window on monitor no 2
    and thats it !!
    No coding required.

  • GNOME 3.8, Dual Monitor - Lock Screen Problem

I don't know if this is the best place to post this, but here it goes.
If I use a dual monitor configuration in GNOME, when I lock the screen, X hangs.
I can still access a TTY and restart GDM.
I don't know where I can find any useful information about what is going on, but maybe someone can point me into the right direction.

Have you tried to enable sna ? A lot o problem with gnome and GDM 3.8 seems to be solved that way.
To do so, create this file: /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf
    and add in it:
    Section "Device"
    Identifier "Intel Graphics"
    Driver "intel"
    Option "AccelMethod" "sna"
    EndSection

  • Strange behaviour of 2nd monitor full screen image

    Hi,
Since last night, my LR5 is starting to behave very strangely with my 2nd monitor image. My 2nd monitor has been set to "Show, Full Screen and Loupe-Normal", and I have always been using this two monitor set up to show my image in full screen mode (since LR4) without problems. But since last night, the 2nd monitor image starts to minimize itself randomly. If I click the 2nd monitor icon (on the bottom left of main screen) it comes back. Then when I moven to the next photo, it may disappear (minimize) again. It is very frustrating. I never changed any of my settings. Is there anything that I missed? What makes the 2nd monitor image go away? Anybody experienced the same phenomenom?
    Thanks in advance.

  • FLVPlaybackCaptioning and full screen woes

    Hello,
I'm using FLVPlaybackCaptioning to display subtitles in my flash player. The only problem is when I toggle between full screen and the normal sized screen, alot of weird things happen.
First time I click - the subtitles resize correctly in full screen
Second time - subtitles resize correctly to the normal sized screen
Third time - subtitles do not resize in full screen
Fourth time - subtitles resize correctly to the normal sized screen
Fifth - subtitles do not resize in full screen
Sixth - subtitles resize correctly to the normal sized screen...
And so on until the subtitles only appear at a the normal-sized screen size when in full screen. And not at all in the normal-sized screen.
I've been trying to solve this for days - please help!!

  • [Solved] Setting up dual monitor + laptop screen on Alienware M17xR4

    Hi everyone,
My apologies in advance if this has been asked before, I was not able to find any relevant information for this anywhere. I have Alienware M17xR4 with nvidia GTX660M graphics card. I also two extra 24" Asus VS248 monitors besides my laptop screen. They are connected via HDMI and DisplayPort (DVI on the monitor) and I want to have all 3 displays working, if that is not possible, then two monitors working side-by-side.
The problem is that I have not been to able to work the two monitors so far, I did at one point managed to make one big screen out of these two monitors but I want a Windows-like behaviour wherein I can drag the two windows between two screens and maximise them on individual monitors. Right now I have completely messed up my display in such a manner that the TTY1 gets stuck on the boot while trying to start the login manager. I can however boot through TTY2 (ALT+F2) and change any configuration.
I have tried deleting xorg.conf and then regenerating it via nvidia-conf but that doesn't help either.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hello i think i may be able to help with your problem, i had a similar one
I have an alienware m14xr2 and i also tried to do the same but i noticed when using the nvidia card with the nvidia drivers i had a problem, i assume that the external display is connected to the intel card, as it worked perfectly with the intel only driver setup. To fix this issue I use bumblebee, the nvidia optimus alternative for Linux which uses the intel card as primary, allowing me to use both external and internal displays in extended mode, and run what i need on the nvidia card and pull it over with a virtualgl bridge, i even seam to get a performance increase with bumblebee over the regular nvidia drivers running all the time (only when using primus).
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/bumblebee
Here is a link to the bumblebee page i used, though i had problems setting up that i found many alienware users had that can be fixed in the troubleshooting area bellow "[ERROR]Cannot access secondary GPU: No devices detected"
I noted many alienware uses had this problem in my search.
Also the package arandr is an xrandr front end may help in the initial setup as i had problems using the display config built into cinnamon to do this.
    https://www.archlinux.org/packages/comm … ny/arandr/
Now hopefully this makes at least dual screen working, i use dual with hdmi, and the vga should work ok for your third screen, but im not sure about the display port, never tried it and i believe it is on the Nvidia card, but there are instructions on the wiki page above you may be able to use about multiple monitors when the output is on the other card that may help, again try the vga first works on mine.
As for fixing your current xorg issues, i also did a thing in my attempts to get a working situation and eventually gave up, in the end reinstalled arch and followed the wiki and it worked, but mabye try removing all of x org and your display environment and re-install as per the bumblebee wiki.
i hope this helps you get multiple monitors, i know how amassing they are to use

  • Problem on dual monitor system

    Hi;
I have dual monitors and put Eclipse on the right monitor full screen. When I move the mouse over a variable, the pop-up is displayed in the left monitor.
    ??? - thanks - dave

I've a similar problem. But actually my problem is very common; I've seen a lot of programs showing this.
My monitors are arranged as [2][1]. That means the primary monitor is on the right while the secondary is on the left. But most programs suppose that we have [1][2]. This is a very very bad assumption.
So when the application window is placed on the secondary monitor, ie on the left, popup, tooltips or other things would appear on the right ([1]) !
Nitrox is, unfortunately, one of these applications.
