Dual monitor on Mac Pro Xeon, monitors messed up after sleep

Only recently, I find that sometimes, after waking up my computer, open pallettes have either switched sides or else a set workspace in a particular program is gone and all the pallettes are jammed over to one side. The only changes I've made recently are upgrading to Adobe CS6, upgrading to FormZ7, upgrading to Parallels 7 and adding RAM. Interestingly, though I trust my Mac tech, the RAM is faster than the spec for this machine, but the tech (20 years experience) says that's not a problem.
Help would be appreciated.

When using two displays, you create a much larger Extended Desktop on which various windows are arranged.
When you remove a display, every window shown on the original (much larger) Extended Desktop  must be moved onto the desktop as it exists now, without the removed display. That sounds like what happens to you in the case where palettes are jumbled onto an edge of the screen.
If one display is slow to acknowledge that is is still there and willing to work, it could cause Mac OS X to mark it "not present" and move everything to the other display. That might also explain certain other kinds of swapping to the other display.

  • Can an old Mac Pro Xeon be updated to 10.9

Can anyone tell me if a Mac Pro Xeon dual core 2.66 processor can run Mountain Lion OS

    Mac Pro 1,1 (2006) and Mac Pro 2,1 (2007):
Sorry, No. 10.7 is the latest you can run, because those models do not have a reliable way to update their firmware to support 64-bit kernel, required for later Mac OS X.

  • No More drivers when i restart my MAC PRO XEON

    Good day !
So here is my problem :
I have two Pioneer Drivers 116 and 112. I initialized my hard disk and after install and restart, my drivers don't appear at all. When i do "about this mac" / more information and ATA,
No drivers on my MAC PRO XEON, all vanished !!!
And when i open the MAC, the power supply of my two drivers are working, i hear the sound of "the power supply" i don't know if it's correct... cause my english is approximate.
Did you heard somewhere the same problem ?
    I don't understand.
Thanks for your help cause i really need it.

I would suspect your jumpers settings are wrong. These are cable select...try that not slave/master

If you do not have the Mac Pro I would find a 2008 or later but preferably, a 2009 or later one.

  • Would I notice a difference between a dual 3.2 MAC PRO and a dual 3.0 Mac P

Would I notice a difference between a dual 3.2 MAC PRO and a dual 3.0 Mac Pro. Looking to add another MAC PRO to my studio just wondering if there would be a noticeable difference between my dual 3.0 quad core and the 3.2 dual quad core??
    Thanks
    John

Using mostly FCP and Illustrator CS 3. Really do not need anymore performance for what I am doing but I need to add another station and wonder if the 3.2 would be a better performer. My current system is a 3.0 dual with quad cores. If the 3.2 would be a better performer then I would install the new system in my main suite.
    Thanks

  • Newest 8-core Mac Pro won't always wake from sleep.

Recently I have been experiencing my Mac Pro not always waking up from sleep. It is a 2.4 Ghz 8-Core running Snow Leopard. I am using a USB keyboard and a Bluetooth mouse. I am noticing that it is becoming more frequent and it's starting to worry me with how expensive this computer is.  If I had to guess, I would guess that it happens more often after long sleep durations. The only way to get it to turn on is by holding down the power to turn it off and then doing a reset. Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Mac Pro wakes in the night after 10.5.7 update

Mac Pro has taken to waking from sleep spontaneously, and staying awake. This is generally some time after sleeping - an hour perhaps. 99% sure this started after the 10.5.7 update. I think (but I'm not yet sure) that if I put it to sleep a second time without doing anything it will then stay asleep.
"Wake for Ethernet administrator access" and "Restart automatically after power failure" are both unchecked. Nothing else on the network at this time except the ADSL router. Computer should sleep after 20 minutes, but it doesn't. Eveything else seems fine after the update.
    Thoughts anyone?

Thanks both. I do have wireless KB and mouse, and I've wondered if Bluetooth might be causing the problem. Normally I use the space bar to wake it up. Everything has been fine for 6 weeks from new, until the 10.5.7 update.
After posting the above message at 10:15 I put the Mac to sleep, but found it awake a few minutes later. I've found this in the System log:
    Jun 21 10:17:52 ... kernel[0]: System Sleep
    Jun 21 10:26:03 ... kernel[0]: Wake reason = UHC6
    Jun 21 10:26:03 ... kernel[0]: System Wake
    Jun 21 10:26:03 ... kernel[0]: Previous Sleep Cause: 5
    Jun 21 10:26:03 ... kernel[0]: USB (UHCI):Port 1 on bus 0x5a has remote wakeup from some device
I then put it to sleep again at 10:34 and it stayed asleep until I woke it with the keyboard:
    Jun 21 10:34:59 ... kernel[0]: System Sleep
    Jun 21 15:51:49 ... kernel[0]: Wake reason = UHC6
    Jun 21 15:51:49 ... kernel[0]: System Wake
    Jun 21 15:51:40 ... /System/Library/CoreServices/backupd[22160]: Starting standard backup
I don't know what UHC6 is, but it's the wake reason both times, so maybe this is keyboard related. It would be a pain to have to turn the KB off every time though.

  • My macbook pro doesn't wake up after sleep

my macbook pro doesn't wake up after sleep

I'm having the same issue. I've had my logic board replaced twice now, which I did last week and then Monday I had to take it to a Genius Bar again because my hard drive cable was malfunctioning. I don't know why it's happening but I'm really starting to get frustrated with my machine. I bought my MacBook Pro brand new last year in September and ever since I've dropped it in November, it's been really glitchy. After I dropped it, I had to replace my Logic board, graphics card, and hard drive and they covered it.

  • Dual Display Problem - Mac Pro / 23" Apple Cinema

Hey guys, I'm having a bit of a hard time right now. Here's my situation. I'm using my Mac Pro with a primary HD Apple Cinema Display 23". I just recently stumbled upon a Sony HS95P. I've used this monitor before as a second display a few years back. I bought a " DVI 24+1 male to VGA female adapter DVI-D DVI-I DVI-A " and plugged it into my computer, no problem. Display shows up in system preferences, when I check mirror displays it takes the resolution of the 2nd display and the Sony flashes. However no screen, Blacked on the Sony. When I set up the displays to run into eachother, I can venture my mouse over onto where the other monitor would be, however it's black on the Sony.
What could be the problem? I didn't buy the Apple adapter, but could this REALLY be that serious of an issue? I didn't use it in the past, atleast I don't think I did.. Also could it be the OS? I'm using 10.6.8. Any help or advice/things to try would be awesome...  I have two DVI slots in the back of my Mac Pro, gfx card is a NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT. Thanks guys.

I'm back. Got my Mac Pro back from repair today. Ahhh...25" screen. However, they (the Apple Repair People) have put a new GeForce 8800GT in, to replace the old one.
And the final bill was $380 CDN ($40 for work, the rest for the card, around $300.)
What's Apple's policy on graphics card replacement, even if the customer is paying for it? I thought I asked for a new ATI 5770 card, but maybe I was wrong. I don't think I can take her back in and ask 'em to put a better card in there, and only ask for a bit more to cover the difference in price. I've got a feeling it doesn't work like that.....
    thanks

  • Comparing the Power of i7 Processors in PC and Mac Pro Xeon

I am reviewing the pros and cons between purchasing the Mac Pro with 8 core (new neh. 2009) and purchasing a Dell system with the processor such as the Intel Core i7-940. The price of the Dell and Apple systems show a substantially higher total price for the Apple with similar memory and extras for both, but I am having trouble comparing the performance of the different Intel processors in each brand. I believe that the basic architecture is different, and it appears that the i7-940 processor is a quad processor but has 8 threads. Can anyone educate me on how to compare the two since I have not found any literature on point?

Both the i7 and the new Xeons have 4 physical cores and hyperthreading, which makes them able to run 8 threads.
They are both virtually the same, with the exception that the Xeon is able to be used in multiple CPU systems and has extra pathways to 'talk' to a second Xeon, The i7 does not and cannot work in a multiple CPU system.
Other than PRICE, and being marketed as a 'server/workstation' chip there is little other difference between the two, actually.

  • 1st Gen Mac Pro Xeon vs Nephalem-Advise,Opinions,Votes

I know a guy willing to sell me his Mac Pro for 1500. Its about two years old, 1st gen Xeon Processor, quad core,750gig hd,plus 3-10k 160gig hard drives, don't know how much ram, 4 gigs I think, and upgraded video card. I was just about to buy a new Mac Pro Quad Core with the Nephalem processor for 2300(student discount), when the deal came my way. What should I do? Planning to run Final Cut Pro and Protools on it mostly. Will I wish I had gotten the newer version in a year or two? Will it be a significant difference in performance of the newer computer vs the older version? Can the processor be upgraded at a later date? Tell me what you can, cast your vote, throw me some advise and opinions and help me make a decision. For the record, I am leaning towards the computer with the regular xeon(older) over the nephalem(newer) processor. 800 hundred dollar difference...hard to beat, unless you know something that I need to know. Talk to me folks

I said 2008 model, last year, "Penryn."
    Read Barefeats for starters.
    More choices for graphics.
There was an 8-core 3GHz 1st generation but I doubt that is what they are offering. But again, if you don't say 'what' then everyone will assume stock 2.66GHz / 4-core 1st gen.
Snow Leopard and Windows 7 64-bit will work better.
This gets asked a lot and no I am probably not the one to give the surface or simple answer. As I said, the $2399/2.8GHz makes for best bang-4-buck.
Everyone things there is a magic bullet and that 8 cores/ 16 threaded processes, will be unleashed and programs will what? run better? only as code is written, compiled, and that it can benefit.
The cost of anything above base 4-/8-core Nehalem is premium. And the 4-core is proving to be hard to upgrade RAM and maxes out at 4 DIMMs.
You can take what you save and put it into RAM, SSDs or other drives will be more important.

  • Dual Display on Mac Pro (2011) not recognized after Yosemite Upgrade

I have  Mini Displayport-to-HDMI adapter that used to work fine until I upgraded to Yosemite (now running 10.10.2).  Now during boot up the main display flashes looking like it 'notices' the 1080 display resolution then quickly ignores it and the HDMI output is not recognized in the System Preferences Display window.  This Mac Pro has two Mini Displayport ports and both behave similarly.
The main display powered through the DVI port works fine
    Any suggestions to resolve ?

Not sure how critical your dual display is to your work life, but if it is you may want to consider using a Matrox product. Google it and search their site for "DualHead2Go" adaptor. I've used their stuff since 2008 when I bought my MacBook Pro. Their software is always kept up to date with the latest Mac OS. I have been VERY pleased over the years. Food for thought if you can't get your current system to function properly.

  • Dual G5 to Mac Pro - Need Old Email

I had my Dual G5 replaced with a Mac Pro because the G5 died on me. Before it died, I dragged my library and user folders and system folder to an external drive.
What do I need to do to restore my old email to my new machine?

The procedure might be slightly different, depending upon whether you running 10.4 and Mail 2.x on the G5, or an earlier version of OSX and Mail?
If you were running Mail 2.x, then you would only need to transplant the com.apple.mail.plist from the Preferences folder in the Library folder, and replace any new Mail folder, with the former.
