Dual monitor set up and problems/solutions?

I have just started to do event photography using 17" MBP running Aperture 2.1.3, a 23" ACD and Nikon D3 with Elinchrom DLite4s and printing to a Mitsubishi CP9800.
First event when very well, but as anticipated it threw up some problems. Some I'm probably just being dim about but I thought I would pose the questions anyhow and see how we go?
I tethered the D3 to the MBP which was displaying through the ACD so the punters could see nice big images… but this meant my colleague (who was shooting) got no preview of what he had shot. We overcame it by him quickly spinning the monitor to look see for positioning purposes.
I messed around a bit with some of the tethered options and found it easier to have the Auto-select uncrossed so that when punters were viewing I didn't keep losing their selection to each new picture taken (obvious I know, but it took me a short while to work that out).
So what I want to know is… is there anyway to have the preview only on the second monitor and maintain ALL the functionality on the first display?
In other words, so that we can cross Auto Select on the Tether HUD, he then sees every new image as he shoots it on his monitor (the second monitor that is, turned to face him 24/7), whilst I can use the MBP display (or maybe an additional ACD) to select images, edit and most importantly print (as that is where the dough comes from) without affecting his display.
I've managed to get it functioning so that I have the Main Viewer set to Browser Only whilst the Second Viewer is set to Alternate. This gives me exactly the look and layout I need, except when I click on an image to either edit or pint, it comes up in his display also?
Sorry for the really long winded explanation there.
Or is it something I'm doing wrong with the D3 and the USB set-up - I thought there was only one way that could be configured???
Would appreciate any help you can as next gig is on Thursday - lots of 16 y o girls in posh frocks
Regards
Andy

You have a choice to make.
You can use two video outputs on the video card or the single video output on the motherboard. You cannot use both.
I suggest using the DVD output on the video card and an adapter in the HDMI output on the card. The only problem is that using an old school VGA monitor won't work on the video card outputs since it needs to output to digital display devices. If you want two displays from the video card ,then you will probably need to purchase another LCD display to connect to the video card.
It is probably time to consider putting the old VGA monitor out to pasture. Its time has come and gone.

  • Dual Monitor Set-ups (opinions please)

So I'm finally ready to jump into the dual monitor set-up. Right now I'm using a single 19" widescreen monitor. I recently started doing more work with movies and it would be absolutely wonderful to have the movie on a separate monitor.
Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations for moving to this type of set-up? I want to make sure I buy something that will do the job for a long time.
    Thanks in advance!

Hello Pal, Sorry for the late response... but this is what I use (Note: I have a laptop)
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/M9321G/B?fnode=MTY1NDA5OQ&mco=MjE0NTg3Nw
I believe this is exactly what you'd need (there is no additional software needed)
You just plug it in, both screens flash a light color blue for about 3 seconds and you're off.
The only downside is if you are used to using your hot corners, when the screens are split you have to move your move a whole other screen length.

  • Dual Monitors with GPU and Motherboard not working

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone else could help me out.
So, I decided to hook up an old monitor of mine to my rig today and, lo and behold, the monitor isn't being detected by my computer.
I've already got a monitor running through my GPU (NVidia GTX 960) via DVI.
Currently tried connecting my second (old) monitor to my motherboard with DVI as well, but it isn't being detected.
I went into my bios and forced my integrated graphics on, but when I checked in the device manager, it said my VGA graphics adapter "Cannot start (Error Code 10)"
Also tried updating VGA graphics adapter drivers, but I had the latest drivers already.
I'm not sure if that's related to the issue, but I thought it'd be worth mentioning.
(What's also worth mentioning is that I'm a complete casual when it comes to computer building and such, lol)
Motherboard is a Gigabyte F2A88XM-HD3, supports VGA, DVI and HDMI.
Monitor that I'm trying to connect supports both DVI and VGA.

A lot of the 960's don't have 2 DVI's. However most have an additional HDMI and DisplayPort. I recommend you get an adapter from amazon or something. Just make sure that it will convert HDMI or DP to DVI. Usually amazon products have a good amount
of questions already answered by buyers.
Interesting that they'd go that route, I guess I just assumed since my 760 has two.
I've set up dual monitors using one DVI and one HDMI before, but I ran into issues with screen sizing. Despite having two identical monitors set at the same resolution the mouse would not transmit over to the second monitor at the same height as it was on
the first, so I had to buy an adapter like Joshua suggested.

  • Dual Monitor Set up Stuck at Low-Resolution?

I have just bought a refurbished Power Mac 2.66 dual core and it came with Leopard. I have a 1 LCD and 1 CRT, and have a problem where the CRT will only run at 736x552 if I have both monitors connected. HOWEVER, if disconnect the LCD and just run the CRT, the CRT will give me the option to run in higher resolutions (up to 1280x960). This on an Nvidia 7300 (I think, 7 something) with 256 meg of video ram...
Why is this? I have been running both monitors just fine on my older G5 (which has a lower-end video card).
This was a problem before the 10.5.2 combo update, also before the Video Up date, and still is a problem after installing all updates.
Anyone have this problem? Is it a problem with the video card? I think it's Leopard...
    Leopard... I hate you.

    hi levononick,
Thanks for posting and welcome to the community,
After reading your post I was trying to get a visual on how the back of the desktop looks like. I don't one here to check on so after googling round I'm assuming that your Desktop Back panel looks like the visual below.
Base from what I seen here it appear that your machine do not have the support for having dual monitor. If you see the top (Blue connector) is for the output of a single monitor that is powered by the Onboard graphics. Now the out put below (Also with Blue connector and HDMI) indicates that you are able to have 2 monitors but not extended. One is for the Montor which supports VGA and the other is for connection for HDMI out, to connect to newer TV screens such as LCD or LED tv nowadays, and use them as a monitor.
By looking at this it does appear that you do have extra slot to possibly insert another Graphics card which does support 2 montior displays. You might need to purchase another type of GPU which does this in order to have the Dual support to fuction. Indidcation of the cards with the dual support can be shown below.
This type of can definitely support 2 montior functions and should be the type you are targeting to get fitted into the machine for the support.
    Hope this helps.
Please do let me know should you require further clariffication.
    regards

  • My mouse pointer is stuck on one screen of a dual monitor set up.

I recently did a fresh install of lion on my mac, the dual monitors were working on Snow Leopard, but no longer.
Whilst I can see both screens, I cannot move my mouse from one to the other.  Nor can I drag windows across the screens.
    Help!

have you tried all the edges? you may need to reconfigure your monitors arrangement. to do so go to system preferences displays and then choose arrangement. Then you'll be able to see how the computer thinks you have them and adjust it to the way you want them. Make sure you dont have mirroring on as well (being thorough).
    Hope this helps you.

  • Dual monitor setting on PXI 8108

there is only one DVI port in PXI8108, how can I set up dual monitors?
    Best,
    Sam

    Hi samybae,
You should be able to use dual monitors because the controller uses DVI-I (single link) connectors. This allows you to break the signal out to a DVI as well as VGA connector using a splitter.

  • How can I change the resolution of one monitor in a dual monitor set up?

I'm trying to help someone set up an extended desktop using two monitors connected to a mac mini. One monitor is at the maximum resolution, but the other is not, and thus feels enlarged or zoomed in. I know a higher resolution is possible because the monitor has a button menu that shows a higher resolution, but it seems to be disabled - as I cannot select the maximum.
Also can't seem to change it under the mac mini's display preferences.
Any suggestions? We would really appreciate it.

This model simultaneously supports 1920x1200 on an HDMI or a DVI display (using the included HDMI-to-DVI adapter) and2560x1600 on a Thunderbolt or Mini DisplayPort display
The HDMI connection does not support higher than 1920X1200
What resolutions are running now and on what connection and what is the grayed-out resolution?

you can use both ports, you have to test if a dvi-d to hdmi connection will work.
Sometimes a dvi-d source can't support hdmi -if you have already one monitor, just test it.

  • Hyperlinks not working w/ dual monitor set up

I've found what appears to be a pretty bad bug in Keynote 09 that I'm hoping someone else can confirm.
If I connect my MacBook to an external monitor and turn off monitor mirroring so I can see my presenter screen on the MacBook and the main presentation screen on the external monitor, I lose control of all hyperlinks that I have in the presentation. Thus far, I have tested this with simple hyperlinks that link to another slide in the presentation.
Using either the trackpad or a connected usb mouse, I can place the cursor over the link area and the cursor icon changes as expected, but tapping on the link with either source does nothing. If I turn monitor mirroring on, I gain all control and am able to select the hyperlinks in the running presentation.
So, if I want to run a two monitor presentation so I can have my presenter notes in front of me, I cannot use hyperlinks.

Have you treid moving the mouse over to the second screen?
    This worked for me.

  • I have 12 core with Quatro 4000 and 5770, I want to use dual monitor setup, monitors are NEC with Spectraview-II.  How do I connect?  4000 only has 1 Display Port and 1 DVI.  5770 has 2 of each, if I use both 5770 Display Ports, does the 4000 contribute?

I just bought a 12 core with Quatro 4000 and 5770, I want to use dual monitor setup, monitors are NEC with Spectraview-II.  How do I connect?  4000 only has 1 Display Port and 1 DVI.  5770 has 2 of each, if I use both 5770 Display Ports, does the 4000 contribute any work at all?  I read where on a PC they would work together, but on a MAC they do not.
I read that Display Port has higher band width than DVI, NEC monitors for best performance they recommend using DIsplay Port.
When I was setting this up I looked at a Nvidia Quadro 4000, unfortunately it was for PC, it had 2 Display Ports, in the Mac version they reduce it to one.  I did not think there could be a difference.
Mainly want to use it for CS6 and LR4.
    How to proceed???
I do not want to use the Quadro 4000 for both, that would not optimize both monitors, one DP and 1 DVI.  Using just the 5770 would work but I do not think the 4000 would be doing anything, and the 5770 has been replaced by the 5870.more bandwidth.
Any ideas, I am a Mac newbie, have not ever tried a Mac Pro, just bought off ebay and now I have these problems.
As a last resort I could sell both and get a 5870.  That would work, I'm sure of that, it's just that I wanted the better graphics card.
    Thanks,
    Bill

    The Hatter,
I am a novice at Mac so I read all I can.  From what I understand the NEC monitors I bought require Display Port for their maximum performance.  The GTX 680 only has DVI outputs.  Difference from what I understand is larger bandwidth with the DP.
You said I have the 4000 for CUDA.  I am not all that familiar with CUDA and when I do read about it I do not understand it.
A concern I have is, that if I connect the 2 high end NEC monitors via the 5770, using it's 2 Display Ports I would have nothing connected to the 4000.  Is the 4000 doing anything with nothing connected?  I read where in a PC system the 2 cards would interact but in a Mac system they do not.
Bottom line, as I see it, the 4000 will not be useful at all to me, since I want a dual monitor set-up.
So far the 5870 seems the best choice, higher band width than the 5770, and it has 2 Display Ports to optimize the NEC monitors.
I'm not sure how fine I am splitting hairs, nor do I know how important those hairs are.  I am just trying to set up a really fast reliable system that will mainly be used for CS6 and LR4.  Those NEC monitors are supposed to be top notch.

  • OpenGL freezes computer with dual monitors and fglrx

I am trying to use the fglrx driver, and with a single monitor I seem to have gotten everything working.
However I am running into issues with two monitors. Basically, when I have two monitors any opengl program doesn't run properly.
There are two cases. If I use the xorg.conf generated by "aticonfig --initial", it still seems to detect the other monitor (although there is a black region on my gnome desktop). If an opengl program is run, the screen goes crazy where random pixels are changing different colors. I can end the program, and everything goes back to normal.
Using the program "amdcccle" I generated xorg.conf for dual monitors (I pasted it below). When I use this configuration, any opengl program completely freezes the computer instantly.
I have been looking for a while, but have not found any information that might lead to a solution. Does anyone here have any advice?

    Hello.
I put my second monitor of a dual monitor set-up to the left of the main monitor - the one with the FC application, keyboard and mouse, etc. Trouble is the mouse kept hitting the left hand wall of my main monitor when I tried to send it to the second monitor. After a while I realized the mouse/computer thinks the second monitor is to its right, so I have to exit the right hand side of the main monitor to get to the one on the left.
Is there any way to instruct FC and the mouse that the second monitor is on the left? Can the mouse be instructed to "pass" through the left hand wall of the main monitor rather than the right? Or must the second monitor always go the right of the main monitor?
    Thanks.

  • Weird dual monitor problem with changing image colors

I have dual monitors, same brand and type, same color settings and adjustments, and so far image was the same on both of them. Nothing regarding monitors or color preferences I have changed, but suddenly I started having this weird problem. Example:
    1. Here is the screenshot. I have pure red image, palettes and layers panel are on the second monitor.
    2. I start dragging image window to the other monitor and STILL HOLDING the mouse button (like I said, dragging)
    3. And when I release the mouse color suddenly changes.
If I pick window and drag again color returns to normal. As soon as I release the mouse color changes.
This is only happening on second monitor.
I re-installed graphic drivers, and also re-installed Photoshop CC 2014.
I also changed settings so the image both monitors show is the same (duplicate screen in windows) and there is no problem then. If I return to extended display problems FIXES. But as soon as I lock the computer, and login again the problem shows up again.
Any ideas what should I do or how to fix it?

I see your using Window have two displays.  I not sure how windows handle profiles for both displays.  Your displays are the the same models.  My Displays are physically about the same size  bothe 16:9. One displays 1920x1080 pixels the other 1360 x 768 so the resolution are quite different requires me to create special wallpaper. to make sean looks seamless or image on have the same composition.
I notice that when I drag a window between displays a size difference but the color consistent. When I release the mouse button I see a color shift and a screen capture  shows this. And if I drag the split  window the cole os once again consistent.   I think what we are seeing is more a Windows thing not a Photoshop thing.
I'm using Windows 7 and CC 2014.  I do notice my window drags over the toolbar and under the pallets on the second display. Your window drags under your toolbar.

There are Two monitors hooked to it, one LCD (main DVI) & the other CRT (to the right of the LCD).  I want the LCD one to be the primary one.
