Can I use my intel Imac as a dual monitor for my MBP?

Not directly, since there's no "video in" port. However, you could try using ScreenRecycler, which uses the VNC protocol to extend another Mac's desktop virtually (across the network).

  • Is there a way to run dual monitors using a mini display port cable?

I want to connect my 21.5-inch, Mid 2010 iMac to my 13-inch, Mid 2010 MacBook Pro and run dual monitors with the cable because they don't have thunderbolt plugs. I wan't to use two displays for Logic Pro to expand my real estate. I'm not looking to spend over $50 on crazy adapters so cheaper options would be great.
    Thanks

  • Considering buying a Mac Mini but I need to know about support for dual monitors using DVI connectors.

I have a couple of DVI monitors and I'm looking to replace my Windows desktop with a Mac Mini.  I found an article that says it supports dual monitors with Thunderbolt, but I can't find any discussion of using it with existing monitor, or running multiple DVI displays off a single Thunderbolt port.
Has anyone done this?  If so, what's the best way to achieve it?

Yes, the Mac Mini has both an HDMI and Thunderbolt/MiniDisplay Port and supports dual displays in either Mirroring or Extended Desktop Mode.
It ships with an HDMI to DVI adapter that you can use for one DVI Display.
For the second DVI display you will need to buy a > Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter and plug that into the Thunderbolt/MiniDisplay Port.
see the spec's > Mac mini - Buy Mac mini Desktop Computers

  • T420 and dual monitors using eGPC?

    Hello all,
I just purchased my first ThinkPad, a T420 (4180 62U).  So far I really love this machine.
Unfortunately for me, I didn't realize that this model does not support dual external displays with the built-in graphics processor.
I was wondering if anyone has had success with using a external graphics card along with the dock so that they can have the dual external monitors and the laptop screen running.
If so, what hardware should I be looking at? I would welcome any advice or recommendations.
    Thanks
    Zim

    Thanks for the quick reply!
I haven't actually tried the dock yet.  I was going to order one, then I read that you had to have the Nvida Optimus graphics card to actually do a dual monitor + laptop screen set-up which my ThinkPad does not have.
It's my understanding that the intel graphics HD 3000 allows another monitor, it just doesn't support tow external monitors.
    Am I mistaken about this?
If so, then I'll be real happy, because using 3 screens will be a great help when using Cisco Packet Tracer simulator, reading instructions and taking notes.

  • Dual Monitor using XP

Can the Imac intel run a dual monitor while running Windows XP? We are getting ready to start a new worship service at church and the software package they own is EasyWorship, which is a PC only program. I know the Imac rus dual monitor under OS X, but will it do so under XP?

    According to this thread, yes.

  • NF750 with Dual Monitors using Internal Video issue

I'm currently trying to get this motherboard to output using both the builtin DVI, and HDMI for a dual monitor setup.
Unfortunately what is happening is, first, while in windows with current output to DVI, connecting the HDMI, the monitor is not detected. When booting up with the HDMI it will be detected as long as the DVI is not plugged in. If both are plugged in, neither will show a screen.
Has anyone else had this issue and managed to fix it?
I have also updated to the latest nforce drivers, and bios.
    Thanks for the help

I don't believe its possible to use both digital outputs (DVI and HDMI) simultaneously.

  • UICM Script Editor and Dual Monitors use

Has the issue regarding UICM Script Editor use on dual monitors been resolved for UICM v7.5 thru current release?
There was UICM script corruption issue in v7.5(x) when UICM Script Editor was moved over to the second screen of a dual screen system.  If the edited script was saved, it was corrupted.  The TAC response, at that time, was use of workstation dual monitors was not supported for v7.5(x).

CSCsq18107 was filed to update the documentation for this requirement. Customers were asked to raise a PER ( product enhancement request ) ticket for it but it seems no ticket was raised & I dont see this requirement closed in any of the versions released so far. This means, the dual-monitor is still not supported. Not sure if 9.0 comes with good news.

  • Dual monitor use audio output for movie and other for MBP

is it possible im watching a movie on one and wated to answer factime call or watch youtube on my mbp and just screamed out my tv speakers.....i want fual monitoring but separate audio any help?

    Other alternatives include
I know on mackbooks I've seen firewire used as an input for a Weiss Dac if you're into two channel audio.  Do any reiceivers take firewire as an input for hometheater?  Has anyone tested Firewire outputs on their W series?  I'm told that firewire is sometimes preferable to USB, I'm not sure why this would be, can USB support passthrough of DTS encoded signals?
In the case that firewire works and you Do not have a firewire source, maybe something like this would be of value  It converts firewire to digital coaxial s/pdif and allows passthrough of DTS and AC3.

As I'm into audio the critical thing here (and what you're paying for when you purchase blue-ray, is maintaining the digital information from the disk in an unconverted form.  You want a direct bit pass through, and you want as little jitter introduced to the signal as possible.  You most certainly don't want the sound card getting in the way, Digtital to Analog converting and then reverse packaging it up and putting it out over the soundcard digital out.  My problem is I'm not familiar enough with computer audio to know how exactly the sounds is transmitted from your blue ray drive to the digital interface you've chosen.
Anyone know why USB digital out would not be a prefered method?

  • Dual monitor setup on imac G5 only works in mirror mode

Hi, I have an iMac G5, 2Ghz. I have added a second monitor but when I go to Displays, I don't get an option to setup the monitors like I do on my Intel iMac. The G5 goes into mirror mode and displays the same image on both monitors. I would like to setup the second monitor to extend my desktop.
    Thanks!

    Your iMac is perfectly normal.
For a long time, Apple's "pro-grade" Macs like the PowerMac towers and the PowerBooks allowed extended desktop settings; the "consumer-grade" machines like the iBook, eMac and iMac had only video mirroring.
The better handling of external displays on iMacs did not start until the Intel Macs appeared.
There may be third-party software solutions available but I don't know where to point you

  • Dual monitor use on MacBook with BootCamp

I have a Client using the new 24" LED Display with his MacBook.
He only want to use the External display and close the notebook when he is in the office.
This works OK in OS X, he closes the lid so the laptop sleeps, and then wakes it again from the external keyboard. (If there is a better way, let me know)
The problem we having is on Windows in BootCamp this does not work, the laptop display starts up and he claims the machine heats up quickly in this mode... not to mention the pointer jumping to the extended monitor.
    Any Ideas?
    thanks

You might want to post this issue over on the Boot Camp thread since it relates to using Boot Camp and MS Windows.

  • Dual monitor on 2013 imac

I just got a new 21" iMac and was hoping to add a second monitor.  All instructions I've come across so far tell how to do it with with the older iMacs that have the mini display output on the back.  Can anyone explain to me how to do it with the usb/firewire/other available ports?
    Thanks!

It works exactly the way it did on the iMacs with the Mini DisplayPorts; Thunderbolt is backwards compatible without any additional hardware.

  • Dual-monitor use on Pavilions with MS-7778 (JasmineR) motherboard

I note that all models of Pavilion with the MS-7778 (Jasmine) motherboard (for AMD) indicate on the spec sheet "
DVI and VGA ports (Can be used at the same time)"  with integrated graphics.  But NONE of the models that use the R revision (MS-7778 (JasmineR) motherboard specify on their spec sheet the possible use of DVI and VGA at the same time with integrated graphics.
I require the simultaneous use of both ports for a two-monitor setup.  I ordered a Pavillion 500-056  (with the JasmineR motherboard) that is on the way here (a factory refurb) and if I open the box it will not be returnable.  Now I am afraid that the JasmineR systems do not support both ports being used together.  Can anyone offer a definitive answer to this question?
    Thanks,
    Stan

    Hi,
I have not seen many if any of the newer HP PCs except maybe for the very low end that don't support two monitors.  I have no reason to believe that two monitors are not supported.  The integrated HD8570D GPU in the AMD A8-6500 does support multiple monitors by design.
Contact HP Support and see what they say about HP Pavilion 500-056 with the MS-7778 (JasmineR) motherboard.  If you don't like the answer then you have a decision to make.
HP's support number is 800-474-6836 or 800-HPINVENT or online here.
I'll ask internally if anyone in HP knows a definitive answer for your question.  Look for a personal message (PM) but it might take a day or two to get an answer.
Office Depot stocks this model so if a store is close then you might wonder in and ask to see this unit working with two monitors.  Seeing is believing.
