Dual Monitors? (Original Mac Mini PPC)

I have a Vga splitter and have plugged two monitors in it has duplicated them is there anyway to extend the screens

Not with the splitter. Yo need two seperate VGA outputs from the Mac.
This may work as a second one:

What model Mini do you have? I suspect a G4, I do not think they natively have to video outputs.

  • Dual Monitors on Mac Mini Late 2014 not working on Dell S2340Lc

    Hey guys,
Got a mac mini and using it mainly for work. Working for an ISP and no one has used macs and I've opted to be the poor sucker that gets to deal with old people that don't know how to mac very goodly.
I have two Dell S2340Lc monitors. I have one connected up via HDMI and that works perfectly fine. I turned off the mac, I plugged in Monitor 2 with a MiniDP/Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter, powered on the mac and whilst it was booting, it had the Apple logo and the loading bar on the Dell display plugged in to the thunderbolt to hdmi adapter and then once it loaded up the log in screen, it went to the HDMI display. I logged in and in the displays section, the monitor plugged in to the thunderbolt to hdmi adapter isn't being detected, however I can plug it in to a Samsung 55 Inch Smart TV and it works just fine. I can set up dual monitors between the TV and the monitor in HDMI, but the Dell S2340Lc will only work with a HDMI cable into the HDMI port on the mac mini and will not work through the thunderbolt to hdmi adapter. On the display it just says that there is no signal coming from the computer.
Just wondering if any of you apple gurus had any ideas as to why this isn't working?
    Thanks!

    What if you switch monitors?
What happens if yo only have the Thunderbolt>HDMI>Dell monitor connected?

  • Dual monitor on Mac Mini

Which model can I have dual monitors set up?
    Thanks

The mac mini does not support dual monitors at all. The iMac Duo Core supports dual monitors with mirroring or extended desktop. Any of the other iMacs that support dual monitors only supports mirror mode. The Macbook Pro supports dual monitors in mirror or extended mode also.

  • Dual monitors on mac mini

I'm trying to decide on a mac mini or whether I need a mac pro.  How would I hook up two monitors to a mini ?  I have an NEC PA241W with a Display Port, DVI and VGA array of graphic ports and a Samsung with a DVI and VGA port.  I use them quite a bit for photo imaging editing.
Apple is telling me I need to go from the Thunderbolt mini output to the NEC and then go from the NEC to the Samsung for daisy chaining.  I don't know if I could go into the monitor via Display Port and out to the Samsung via the NEC DVI port ?  Or do I need to find a 3rd party "box" that will manage the connections and/or daisy chaining ??  Anybody know or have ideas ?
    Thanks
    Tony M

Mac mini comes with a HDMI to DVI Adapter. Then you can connect the NEC PA241W with the Display Port and the Samsung with DVI Port.
The Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort adapter is like this:

  • Remote/Dual Monitor for Mac Mini

Bottom Line Up Front:  I want my Mini to remain connected to my stereo receiver/HDTV and have a second monitor, keyboard and mouse in another room.
I have a late 2009 Mini in my entertainment center used for photos, music and streaming.  During my remodel, I had two ethernet cables run from behind the entertainment center to my office downstairs (I was trying to future proof..) I have now decided how I would like to use the cables, if possible.
The Mini is an underutilized computer (as is the circa 2006 iMac in my office but that is another story).  In an effort to reduce the number of computers I own, I would like to have a monitor, keyboard, and mouse in the office connected to the Mini in the entertainment center while keeping the stereo receiver/HDTV upstairs connected, enabling me to get rid of the old iMac in the office.  I want the displays to be mirrored (showing the same image).
My late 2009 Mini is suitable for my needs, but woud consider upgrading to a new Mini if that is what it takes to get what I want.   If there is a way to do what I want with my current setup, would like to hear it.
If I do upgrade, what would be the best way to connect the monitor in the office?  I would keep the HDMI output connected to the stereo receiver/HDTV.
One way I think would work is use airplay and an Apple TV (would need to purchase) to mirror to the monitor in the office and use one of the ethernet cables to carry the keyboard/mouse inputs (Bluetooth won't reach).
Would a Thundrbolt to ethernet adapter carry the audio/video signal to the office?  I couldn't find anything definiteve saying this possible. This would entail buying two TB adapters which is quickly approaching the price of an Apple TV.
Any thoughts, recommendations or suggestions are welcome.
    Thanks!

  • Advice: Mac Mini / Dual Monitors / PC Mac Configuration

Hey Guys, need some advice for a semi-switcher friend.
I have a business associate who has asked me the following questions and wanted some advice from the mac forum.
My friend's background is as professional web site developer. He is currently using Windows XP with dual monitors.
His boss is going to buy him a Mac Mini to work along side his PC. He wants to know what would work for dual monitor / PC / Mac Mini configuration.
    Here are his questions:
"One, what do I need to do to run dual monitors on a Mac Mini since it doesn’t have another graphics card like my PC?"
"And two, what is the best way to use my dual monitors with my Mac and PC? Should I trash the PC and use Bootcamp/Parallels or use something like a KVM switch since the Mac doesn’t come with a keyboard or mouse?"
"I still need to be able to do testing with IE7 and Firefox (which I believe is different on a Mac than a PC), so that’s why I considered using Bootcamp or Parallels. (I prefer Parallels due to the rebooting of Bootcamp, but am wondering if I might experience any troubles otherwise and am better off with Bootcamp since it’s a Mac product and not third-party software. I’m neutral on this.)"
Any help or suggestions would be welcomed.
    Thank you in advance.
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

There is one factor you might want to pass on to your semi-switcher friend in his consideration of a mac system.
There's a subtle difference between MacOS and Windows that can significantly impact on how well a Windows user adjusts to the Mac, particularly when used to dual head operation. Windows attaches a menu to each and every window (and application) whereas MacOS does not. While a Windows user only has to navigate to the menu bar at the top of each window, a MacOS user has to navigate to the single menu bar along the top of the screen (or primary screen if on a dual head system.
It's not a major issue, but for a pro used to simple and quick navigation off on the secondary display, having to navigate over to the top of the primary display to do something instead of quick flick up and done, there can be a small degree of frustration and a slight impact on workflow.
I hasten to add that with those I have seen make this very transition, the effects were short lived, but it leads to the thought that where the Mac is concerned, it might be marginally better to go for a single widescreen display than dual head.

  • Original Mac mini and 1680 x 1050 resolution

I have one of the original Mac mini's with the ATI Radeon 9200 graphics card. Can this be used with a 22" 1680 x 1050 DVI or VGA display?

My PPC 1.42 w/1g RAM works fine with my Dell 22" widescreen at 1680x1050 utilizing VGA input, BUT will not reliably display the same using DVI as connection method. It acts as if it is overwhelming the system using DVI.
Not the display...I had it replaced.

  • Is it possible to add a second monitor via mac mini with iMac

    Hi
is it possible to add a second monitor via mac mini with iMac
    or is there another solution?
all i want to know is if i can run a second monitor or link a mac mini for more speed like i heard you can with the G5 Towers.

The iMac will allow you to connect a second monitor but that monitor will show the same thing as the iMac's built-in screen.
You can network a Mac mini and iMac via Ethernet or Firewire.
Software load sharing like Xgrid can allow you to share work between the Macs.

  • Which is better, a G4-450 Dual or a Mac Mini 1.42?

which is better in terms of Sequencing and plug in performace, the G4-450 Dual or a Mac Mini 1.42?

    G4-450GHz Dual with 896MB RAM
Mac Mini 1.42GHz with 1 gig of Ram
G4-450GHz Dual gets more instances with plugs, more tracks and performance then the 1.4GHz 17" Powerbook, 12" powerbook and Mac Mini which all have the same G4 processor.,
Today, i took the same 34 track session,
-all 34 tracks have a Logic Comp, Eq, Gate
-and also 8 Buses with Comp, EQ, Gates, Delays, Flange, Phasors, Pitch Shifters, 2 Reverbs (1 long and 1 plated) as well as some other toys.
-Master with Waves Ren Comp, Logic EQ.
-6 esx24 Instruments with high loads ( Harps, Strings, Cellos, Drums and Perc)
-8 Long (16 Bar) drum tracks ( Bass, HH, Snare, Toms, Overheads, Fills, Percussion dubs)
-4 Vocal takes and Dubs (more then 16 Bars long)
    -Bass Track
    -2 Acoustic stereo tracks
-4 Guitar tracks, dubbs and fills
    -4 Slide Acoustic guitar tracks
    -4 dubbed effect vocal tracks
AT first, he G4-450GHz Dual choked with 2 errors, then it buffered into the session well and played everything back fine of the same FW drive.
The mac mini got major problems and only performed 28 tracks with the esx24 tracks frozen, and from time to time after heating up chokes again, i had to wait a few minutes before i bounced the session due to overload errors.
Over all, Both have G4 Processors and about 1GIG ram (450GHz Dual is under 1 GIG), but its a clear fact that double processors win, even the lowest 450GHz Dual is still hotter then any flashy fast Bused mac mini, powerbook or iMac.

  • I can't use my Philips monitor with Mac mini

I can't use my Philips monitor with Mac mini, I am using a HDMI to VGA cable to connect them. But no signal on my Philips monitor.
My Mac mini is in a good condition, it can connect with my HDTV, the BENQ monitor at my office, but I can't make it connect with my Philips monitor.
    I dun know what happen.
    Please help!
    Thanks!

The two are incompatible, HDMI is a digital signal and VGA is an analog signal. You need a monitor with a HDMI port or a DVI-I port, these are both digital signals. DVI-I gives the best output.

  • Running OS 10.5.x on Mac Mini (PPC-based, PowerMac10,2)

A friend of mine has a Late 2005 Mac Mini (PPC-based, PowerMac10,2). She currently runs OS 10.4.11 and the Mac is running fine.
    I have a few questions:
[1] Can this machine run OS 10.5.x?
[2] Even if it can, in terms of speed and running application, is it a realistic thing to do?
I want her to use a program called RapidWeaver on her Mac Mini. But, its system requirement is OS 10.5. That's one of the reasons why I am posting this question.

Oh, yes, thanks so much for mentioning that! My friend has a printer that came (I think) free with her Mac Mini back when she purchased the computer. I am now looking at the System Profiler file that I asked her to generate, and under Printers, I see Lexmark Z25-Z35 and Stylus CX4200. I believe that the Lexmark is the wireless printer that she prints to.
Thanks again for alerting me to this!!
