Dual Monitors Plus TV

Hi, newbie here... hope you can help. I did a search on the forum but couldn't find an answer to the following...
I am running a GTX 760 (driver 331.82 and enabled for mercury playback) with 2 computer monitors and a third monitor which is a decent FUll HD TV. The idea is to use the screen real estate of the 2 computer monitors for the Ppro user interface and the TV as a replacement for a broadcast monitor. Both the card and Ppro recognise all three monitors. I have tried all possible combinations of enabling the 3 monitors under 'Playback' in 'Preferences' but I can only seem to get the playback image on both the second computer monitor and the TV at the same time. This means that I cannot use the second computer monitor as planned ie. as extra space for the GUI.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Sure thing, Tony...
I use this one:
http://www.matrox.com/video/en/products/mxo2_mini/
You have a card in your PC connected to the box and then there is HDMI out for a TV / monitor. You can choose to have the audio out via the HDMI or through the PC. I use it through the PC, because I have it connedted to a mixer etc.
If you du a search on the forum for Matrox you can find more about it. I think you should be able to capture with it too, but I have not explored that yet.

  • How to set up dual monitors with a Mac Mini

The Mac Mini has only one video output port. I very nearly didn't buy a Mac Mini system because I need to work with two monitors. I use the second monitor to display information in Web pages, PDFs, and Word documents while I am working in the main window.
However, I discovered after quite a bit of Googling that it is possible to set up dual monitors using an inexpensive USB video adapter (about $70).
So I bought my Mini (1.83Ghz, 2GB RAM, 200GB 7200rpm Seagate Momentus), and I also bought a USB video adapter called the EVGA Plus.
I've installed this system and used it now for a week, and I am quite pleased with it. So I thought I'd pass this information along to anyone who's interested. Please note that, although this is my first post to this forum, this isn't spam -- I have no financial relationship with any of the companies mentioned here, other than as a customer.

    EVGA Plus:

Their literature does not mention Mac OS X compatibility. However, the underlying technology is made by Display Link. You can download beta Mac OS X drivers from their site:
Go to Display Link to download the beta Mac OS support -- see
    http://www.displaylink.com/macbetadrivers.html
The disk image includes a very well written PDF document that explains the driver's status and limitations.

    NOTES
    * The DisplayLink driver is beta. It doesn't support 2D or 3D accelerated graphics. You can't use it to display iPhoto slide shows, for example. However, I need to be able to display a Web page, document, or PDF in the second monitor while I am working in the first. I've found this solution to be quite acceptable for this purpose.
    * Several other companies make USB video units that use the same DisplayLink support, so they should work, too. However, they are more expensive -- largely because they're set up to function as port expanders, I believe. The EVGA Plus was the only unit priced under $100 when I did my search.
    * USB does not have very much bandwidth, so you might be surprised that to hear that it's possible to use USB to drive a monitor! You'll find that the display isn't as fast as DVI, but for my purposes, I've found it quite acceptable.
    * The EVGA Plus comes with a terrible USB to mini USB cable that will cause all sorts of display problems. Replace it with the type of cable that is used to hook up digital cameras to a USB port.
    * Once everything is installed, you can use the Displays in System Preferences (or just click the icon on the menu bar) to adjust the second monitor. You can choose display resolutions (depending on your monitor's ability, of course). Rotation works. You can also right-click the second monitor and choose a different background color or graphic.
Don't expect miracles. Don't go this route if you want to run videos or games in the second monitor. And if you get an EVGA Plus, replace that horrible cable!
I hope this information is helpful.
    Bryan

There has been quite a lot of discussion here about driving twin displays with the mini, and more recently about the potential for USB video adapters to facilitate this, particularly in the light of several vendors claiming they have suitable MacOS devices and drivers 'almost ready'.
The DisplayLink solution seems to be the one most suggested as viable, though it's a pity they have not yet been able to move their drivers from beta - I suspect that puts a few people off. It's therefore good to hear of a real-world experience that should help others decide whether or not to go this route!

The graphics card has two connectors on the panel one is the standard VGA and I thought that the other was a DVI interface, but it looks like It has 10 rows of 3 pins plus the ground bar for the DVI. I can't find a cable or adapter to fit this connector.

    Hi
I suspect it's an ADC connector. If it's the stock graphics card that shipped with the 800MHz Quicksilver that's almost certainly the case. You can buy an ADC to DVI connector cable for around $30 (although don't confuse it with the more expensive DVI to ADC adapter). ADC combines a DVI video signal, power to drive a monitor and a USB signal for a hub in the monitor into one cable/connector. It's specific to Apple, although even Apple now use the more industry standard DVI.

  • HP paviliion p7-1423W Dual Monitor

I have this HP pavilion product and wish to run dual monitor on it.  It has two display ports DVI-I and DVI-D, it came out of the box with a DVI-I to VGA adapter, which I am using for my main screen, I recently bought a DVI-D to Analog VGA(i have a HP v17 which is analog) I've changed the only possible setting in my BIOS that I can find that deals with display was labeled something about VGA i enabled it and still my screen displays "No Input Signal", I've tried this DVI-D port with my main monitor and it does the same thing.  I've looked in the Intel HD Graphics GUI the only screen showing up is my Dell(main) the only other option for display is "Intel WiDi" which i dont have a wifi display.  Anyone have any insight on how I can get dual monitors working.  According to the user manual and the reviews I've read about this product it's able to handle two monitors so I dont see why I cant get it working.

    3 - DVI-D (digital only)          4 - DVI-I (digital and analog)
    ==========================================================
    Looking at ports #3 and #4, notice that port #4 (DVI-I) has "cross" with four pins surrounding it while port #3 (DVI-D) doesn't have those four pins. Please see Wikipedia article entitled "Digital Visual Interface (DVI)" for more information on this subject. From the previously mentioned article;
"This is a passive DVI-to-VGA adapter. This adapter will NOT work with a DVI-D output. It requires a DVI-I or DVI-A output to get the analog signal to a VGA input (even if the adapter looks like a DVI-D). An expensive active converter would be required for a DVI-D output to VGA input."
    Note that an expensive active converter may have video image quality issues, which could impair the value of this device versus the cost. Based on the specs, both of your monitors support VGA only. You have several options to resolve your issue;
    1)  Buy an active DVI-D to VGA converter (costly with possible poor image quality)
    2)  Buy a USB-to-video adapter such as an eVGA UV Plus+ UV39 (not good for gaming or high-bandwidth content video)
    3)  Purchase a new video card that supports your desired configure (may require replacing the power supply)
    4)  Purchase a new monitor that supports at least one DVI-D digital input (depending on size, may be expensive)

  • Thinkpad W520 with Minidock+ Series 3 - Dual monitors and USB fail sporadically

    Hello there,
I wonder if anyone has experienced problems ThinkPad W520 and Mini Dock Plus Series 3 (Part number: 433830U)? I run into problems with dual monitor and USB devices.
For dual monitor setup, sometimes only a single monitor is detected, sometimes no monitors are available in the NVidia control panel. Rigorous display detection doesn't help. Disabling Optimus in BIOS doesn't seem to affect it. After I dock and undock couple of times, reboot, unplug the power cord, it seems to resolve and both monitors work fine.
Also, I run into troubles with USB devices (keyboard/mouse). Sometimes they are not detected at all, but if I plug them into different USB ports on the mini dock, they are detected and work fine.
For me this problem happens about 50% of the time when I dock... Any ideas, insights or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Could it be a faulty Thinkpad, docking station or may be both? I really to upgrade next time to W530, but I've been through so many problems with W520, so I don't know if it's a good idea...
    Thanks so much.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If system update isn't finding anything, and the system works just fine on its own, it could potentially be a faulty Dock.
It could be overloaded.  Could you try testing the dock using just one monitor, and no keyboard or mouse, to see if you run into the same issue.  It would still be a faulty dock, but it may be a potential workaround for the time being.

  • TV@nywhere Dual Monitor Problem

I have the regular TV@nywhere card.. Has anyone else had this problem?
I have a dual monitor setup (extended desktop) on an ATI 9000 pro.. At some point over the last few months I began having problems dragging the WinDVR (player) window from one monitor to the other, resulting in the WinDVR process hanging, or an insta-crash of my system. It used to work fine...
I am assuming it might have something to do with one of 30 or so ATI patches that I installed since the last driver update from MSI. On a positive note, with the newest ati patch, the computer doesn't crash anymore, but the app still hangs (except for the audio which will NOT stop, lol)
    MSI KT4V-L
    Athon XP 2100+
    512 MB pc2100
    ATI 9000 Pro
    MSI TV@nywhere
    WinXP Sp1a

Lets start from the bottom and work up. Have you eliminated the cable & splitter hookup as the source of the problem by connecting to a TV? I had a problem similar to that when I first installed my TV@Plus and I had to remove/re-install the software and get a new cable & splitter before I could get it work.. No you don't need to use RG6. It does not hurt to have better but it's not a requirement.

  • Docked X60 - Dual Monitor question

    Hi All !
I have an X60 docked on an X6 Ultrabase...I'd like to run a couple of HP 1740 TFT monitors off the laptop (without the integrated screen operational) in the usual FN + F7 fashion.
I thought I might be able to use one of these to split the output and run up both monitors in parallel ? Will this work and detect the dual monitor real estate or do i have no choice but to go with one of these
Hope you have some advice ?
    Cheers

  • Video resolution and dual monitor assistance

Trying to set up a show running on a windows XP Pro PC with dual monitor (ATI HD3870 card) so that videos run using Windows Media Player (or maybe something else if needed?) on the second monitor (actually a large projector).
The videos are synchronised to DMX lighting using software so can't just be run from a DVD.
All the videos have been developed using HDV anamorphic PAL 25fps footage but are rendered out using Premiere CS3 at 1280 x 720 (to keep 16:9 ratio at the highest resolution the projector/card (plus VGA extender cable) can handle.
The videos can be launched quite happily on a single monitor system at this resolution and in any format (WMV, AVI, etc). The videos are launched via software using DirectShow (this is 3rd party software). BUT, when outputting to the second monitor the video playback doesn't work at any resolution above 720 x 576. It works fine at 720 x 576, but obviously when projected the image is way smaller than we need.
Note that Windows Media Player will play higher resolution files on the dual monitor but not in full screen mode.
So, the question is where does the problem lie and how can we fix it? Can Windows Media Player not run higher resolutions in dual monitor mode? Do we need a specific graphics card to handle this? Is Windows XP an issue? (PS we had the PC running Vista previously but found that the TMM module in Vista was affecting the screen resolution settings). Do we need to render out of Premiere in some specific way? Has anyone got any experience of something similar?
    Thanks!

Thanks guys. There's no issue with playing the video when launching it direct in Windows Media Player. Its just when launched from the DirectShow API. We've now got a 3rd party looking at that API and have a temporary fix.
So for future reference there are no specific problems with the rendering, codecs or resolutions, but there may be an issue with applications that launch high res media on to a 2nd monitor with the DirectShow API.
    thanks

  • [HELP] MSI 6870 dual monitor problem

    mobo: asrock 970 extreme 4.
    procesor: phenom x4 965.
    PSU: Seasonic 500W SS-500ES 80 Plus Bronze.
    ram: Corsair CML4GX3M2A1600C9B (2x2Gb) DDR3 .
    monitors: benq GL950A.
    VGA: MSI R6870 HAWK Twin-Frozr-II-OC 1gb.
    OS: WINDOWS 7 64bit.
i want to ask, how to dual monitor with this card? the second DVI is not work.. i have the benq GL950 with VGA connector and i use VGA to DVI-I(single link) - ( this is main the display), and the second one is acer x173w, and it has VGA connector too.. then i bought DVI-I(dual link) connector for the acer x173w, so i place benq GL950 with on the top slot, and the acer x173w on the second DVI slot. But the second monitor is no signal, and i tried to detect the monitors on windows 7 64bit, but windows cant detect it.. and the problem is still same.. no signal, and the screen goes blank after it. i have tried reinstall driver but the problm is still same.. help me please.. im so stressed with this..

If you could find a real ADC to DVI-I adapter, it would work, but the Dr. Botts ADC to DVI adapter
    <http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Dr%2E%20Bott/ADCDVII/>
will not work with a DVI to VGA adapter. It does have a dual-link DVI-I connector, but the pins for analog video (and dual link) do not connect to anything. They use this connector because some non-Apple digital displays come with DVI-I and/or dual-link DVI plugs, when they only need DVI-D signals. The Dr; Botts adapter and (all others that I have seen) are only ADC to DVI-D. Even if they connect the dual-link pins from the ADC to the DVI connector, the result will be single-link DVI-D, since no ADC cards provide dual-link signals. There is no reason (other than cost) why an adapter couldn't connect the analog video signals from ADC to a DVI-I connector, but I don't know of any that do.
    From their web-page:
"DVI Extractor II makes an ADC-compatible display out of virtually any third-party flat panel display"
    Note they say "flat panel".
You need an ADC to VGA adapter. They are listed from $40 to $150. Still less than a compatible replacement graphics card, although you can get a card faster than you current one, if you pay enough.

  • Can I use dual monitors on a HP 8425f

Is it possible to connect dual monitors to an HP 8425F ?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Kaymac2, welcome to the forum.
You would have to add a discrete "PCI Express x16, video card" that has two connectors; DVI-D, DVI-I, HDMI, etc.  The Integrated Video is not available when a video card is installed.
Adding a video card may require a power supply unit (PSU) upgrade, as well.  Most mid-level video cards require a minimum of 400W to operate properly.  The PSU in the computer is 350W.

  • Dual Monitor Capability

I was wondering if there was a way to have dual monitors hooked up to a TSeries ThinkPad? I currently have dual monitors and a Lenovo tower and was going to switch to a TSeries Thinkpad w/docking station but I don't want to lose the dual monitors when I am at my desk. Can anyone advise?

Yes it is possible if you use the Advanced Mini-Dock, there are several posts on how to do this.
The easiest way to set it up is to attach one monitor to the
dock's VGA and one to the dock's DVI and create a profile in
    ThinkVantage Presentation Director, (shortcut Fn+F7).
    When
creating your profile and selecting screens there is the option to
select output to DVI and VGA, this is only available if you first
de-select the internal screen. It will also allow you to clone the
    screens or select extended desktop.
When docked the VGA port on the TP is disabled.
Another method would be to use the DualHead2Go solutions from Matrox.
    Hope this helps

  • Cheapest video card for dual monitors on a G4 Sawtooth

    Hi guys,
What would be my cheapest alternative to get a dual monitor (extended desktop) environnement with my G4 Sawtooth. This is an AGP G4.
Can I get a cheap video card with one outlet and then plus each monitor in one card (ie: 1 in the new card and 1 in the old one) ?
Or do I need to buy a card that supports 2 monitors?
I would like to spend as little as possible. I currently have the ATI 16 mb card that came with the system and I run both OS 9.2.2 and OS 10.3.9
    Thans for your advice,
    xenakis

Yesterday I installed a nVidia GeForce4 MX AGP out of a 2002 Quicksilver tower into my own AGP Sawtooth.
It has VGA and ADC connections and can apparently support two monitors at the same time.
My second vidio card is a MPDD card, but I may pull that now that I have a dual-monitor card. Sonnet sells something similar. They have blue & yellow connectors. These things are not high performance but they are OK to use with just about every monitor on the planet and any MacOS from 7.1 to 10.5 and beyond.
Cheap on eBay. Probably you could be even cheaper and pick up a 16-meg PCI card out of a B&W G3 tower.
