Dual NIC Issues

I am trying to run my Arch computer as a router to allow another computer on my home network to use the internet (probably using IP Masq.) The issue is that when I plug in two nics into my computer my ADSL connection will connect but I will not be able to go anywhere on the Internet and when I plug my cat5 cable going to the other computer no lights come on the nic. Yet when I plug in the DSL cat5 cable (into the alternate nic) the lights come on solid and I  can longer even dial after running adsl-setup again.
Taking a quick look at ifconfig it seemed that both cards were working and so was my ADSL connection. So I turned of the nic I wasn't using, disconnected my ADSL connection and tried again. Again it connected but I couldn't go anywhere. I then ran hwd -s and found that though it saw my two cards their aliases at the end were both eth but I when then ran ifconfig it was clear that both an eth0 and 1 existed.
Please help anyone I am so confused.

Thanks everyone,
I have the two nics coexisting now and I am trying my best now to figure out how to get the computer my client computer on the net. SO far I have my eth1 and eth0 cards routed and I have setup a  gateway for the client and assigned it an IP address (keep in mind the client is an ugly WIN 2000 NT MAchine  :x ). I have my Masq firewall setup but I am stuck until I can figure out more.

  • GLBP and dual NIC server

Hi, I'm testing GLBP across a VLAN on a pair of layer 3 6500 server farm collapsed access/distribution switches. ie the VLAN is routed locally and via dual L3 uplinks to the core. The server is a dual NIC compaq server in active/active mode. Seems to work fine, can anyone see any potential issues? rgds

GLBP is a stable feature and you should not have any problems inplementing it. As long as the configuration is correct and the design has been properly understood the GLBP implementation will work fine.

  • Redundancy with dual nic servers

Hi I have 2 11500's configured with box-to-box redundancy. I have a number of app servers each with dual nic's (which are Teamed) and which are connected directly to the CSS's. Nic 1 in each goes to the master CSS1 and is therefore live. Nic2 goes to standby CSS2.The CSS's are connected two 4500 switches to the public.I am monitoring the links to the 4500's,if i switch off the master CCS1,we fail over and the servers all connect via nic2 to the new master CCS2. But when the link to the 4500 from the CSS1 Master goes down the CSS'S failover but the nic2's do not connect to the CCS2 because Nic 1 in each server has not failed ie they still see CSS1 as up. Is there a workaround to this problem ?
    Thanks
    J

I know of no way to link CSS interfaces so that if the uplink goes down, the the other ports are shutdown. There may be another way to configure the adapter teaming or failover on the server side. I know some OS's send out test frames from one adapter to the other to verify network integrity.
What I'd recommend is that you setup a VLAN on your 4500's for the server's physical connections, and uplink that to a "backend" interface on the CSS. This can be done with the CSS in either a router or bridge configuration, but I'd recommend router mode.

  • Setting Up Dual NIC Cards? Benefit?

    Hello Everyone,
I know that the Mac Pro line comes with Dual NICs and I was wondering how do I set these up to be useful with my Cable Modem and Router? Can they be used to get more speed or are they used together in some other capacity.
I really appreciate anyones help and expertise.
    Many Thanks,
    Chris

The normal use of dual nic interfaces would be to run double instances of a given server on disparate IP numbers. Dual NIC's are generally employed in order to attach multiple IP addresses to a single machine.
Another potential use for dual NIC's is internet connection sharing, where your Mac Pro acts as a kind of router; again also this could be used for attaching one NIC to print services and the other NIC for LAN/WAN access.
OK, actually there are a whole bunch of good reasons for dual NIC cards, but 'doubling your bandwidth' is really not one of them. Believe me, unless you are on a direct fiber OC-10 20 foot from your ISP's NOC, then your existing single NIC has 1000 times the bandwidth of your incoming WAN connection.
It is likely possible to interleave dual NIC cards between two machines for bandwith purposes; but if that were going to be the canse, just identify one as "in" and the other as "out" (both machines would have to have dual NIC's to make this mean anything) but again, I honestly do not see a real world use for this...

  • Proliant DL380 G5 - Dual nic drops gateway after windows update.

On yesterday Microsoft windows update updated my DL 380 G5 sever. Part of the update was a nic driver. Needless to say the server didn’t like the update. After the update, the dual nic card will not keep the gateway. I've rolled back the driver but still no luck. Any ideas on how to fix this? My first thought was roll back the driver. Second thought download the drivers from the manufacture but I cannot determine which nic it is. How can I go about finding the exact nic type and name?

  • VCSE with dual NIC / SIP H323 encrypted call / traversal and non-traversal call license questions

    Dear All,
I have a few questions and I would appereciate if someone will answer my questions?
    1) May I know pros and cons of using Dual NIC and single NIC with VCSE in DMZ?
    2) In order to make H323 and SIP encrypted call, what configuration need to be done on Cisco endpoint, non-cisco endpoint, VCSC and VCSE (both signalling and Media need to be encrypted).
3)let say my VCSE is in DMZ- endpoint A (cisco) and endpoint  B (non-cisco) are registered on VCSE. I would like VCSE to use non-traversal call license when A call to B or B call to A regardless of whether H323 or SIP call. How can I force VCSE and endpoints to use non-traversal call. I only want VCSE to handle signalling and media is EP to EP direct. As traversal license is quite expensive.
I found following information from Cisco document.
all Cisco TelePresence endpoints are traversal enabled and so a traversal license will always be needed when at least one of the endpoints involved in the call is a Cisco TelePresence endpoint.
Is it possible to disable traversal client feature of Cisco endpoint?

Hello everyone. I'm in the process of certifying a system with four dual-port gigabit ethernet ports. I can pass all tests with only one of those dual-port cards enabled, but when I have any more I fail the test.

Kevin, will this fix the problems with trying to do installations with

  • HP Elitebook 840 NIC issue

Strange issue.  I have an Elitebook 840 with Windows 7 Enterprise 64 Bit.   Once installed, I copied the driver disk to an external drive and installed the drivers.  All the drivers have installed with one exception.  When the NIC driver installs, the system freezes.  No mouse movement, nothing.  I do a hard shut down and reboot and it freezes on the Welcome screen. If I reboot and go into Safe Mode (No Network) it loads up.  I remove the driver and reboot and it boots up fine. I have searched far and wide for updated drivers and cannot find any.  Even the driver on the HP site does the same.   Anyone have a suggestion?

  • 975x Platinum PowerUp Dual Boot Issue

    Hello -
I have a 975x Plat. PowerUp and dual boot Linux and Windows XP. This process works fine on BIOS 7.1, but fails to boot the Windows disk on BIOS 7.4 and newer. The disk still works, it just can't be started by the Linux bootloader (grub).
I spent a lot of time working on this as a grub issue, but in the end the only thing that affects the problem is revision of the BIOS I am using. (e.g., flash 7.4, Windows does not boot, reboot and flash 7.1, Windows boots).
I also get an issue where I cannot eject the CD drive on warm boot under the same conditions (like a BIOS boot disc, or a Windows boot disc). Works fine on 7.1 not on 7.4 or newer.
I have all 4 ports on the ICH7 controller used for hard drives, and the JMicron controller used for a SATA DVD drive. The issue occurs in IDE or AHCI mode (currently using AHCI mode).
Are these known problems? Are there known fixes? I would like to use a newer BIOS because I have an MS USB keyboard that does not work in DOS mode with BIOS < 7.4 (need keyboard to select OS at boot time).
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • Server 2012 Dual Monitor Issue - Can't Get it to work properly.

I have a HP Proliant ML310e that runs Server 2012 R2. It came with an on-board VGA graphics adapter, that was using a Microsoft Basic Display Adapter driver and working fine.
Needing to run dual monitors, I contacted HP and purchased a Nvida K2000 PCIE graphics card. I installed it using their latest drivers and rebooted, making sure that the new PCIE card was enabled in the BIOS.
While booting, the server actually now displayed on the new 'second' monitor connected to the newly installed Nvida card. When I actually logged in and went into the display properties, it was only detecting the new display - I couldn't even force detect
    the original display.
Also, when I go into device Manger, it now only shows the Nvidia graphics adapter - no longer shows that the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter is present.
Any advice on how to get dual monitors to work on Server 2012. I did try the Windows/P Projector display, but that did nothing.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
You should check your BIOS settings - some motherboard will disable onboard display card once a PCI(E) card is plugged in. This is a hardware settings issue. If  HP support is available, ask them for detailed configuration steps.

  • Dual Nic Load Balancing Solution

    Hi,
I have a very peculiar situation. I'm currently a college student with access to an almost unlimited network. But the problem is that the network limits each IP to 30 Mb/s. I have 2 nics at my disposal and have tried two options so far:
    bonding
two independent nic, let network manager take care of it
I set-up bonding and got it working, but it seems limited to roughly the same speeds as a single nic, but I can see the network being slit between the two nics evenly. This is what lead me to conclude that since I have a single ip address it's limiting it by IP not mac addresses. Here I might occasionally spike above the limits but not consistently.
With the network manager solution, Im basically thrown at random and can occasionally get higher than limited speeds. Specially with torrenting clients.
Are there any other useful options that I could explore, my next stop was a load balancing routing table but I want to see what you guys know before I keep trying weirder solutions.
    Thanks in advance

falconindy wrote:There's no problem here. Please don't try to circumvent the policies your network admins are defining.
Oh come on, we'd all do the same thing if we could double our available bandwidth!
I really can't provide much of a solution.  I did this back with my dialup days, many many eons ago.  I used 2 phone lines bonded to get my 56k speeds doubled.  It was a gigantic pain in the rear to set up back then, as well.  However, I'm lucky to remember what I had for breakfast, so remembering how I did something 15+ years ago is pretty much out of the question.
I'm sure linux can do this, but I'm guessing one of the BSDs would have information about how to do this written up somewhere.  This is right up BSD's alley.  They have all kinds of load-balancing code built into their network stack (Amazon actually had a lot of trouble keeping up with demand when they were getting big, so they wrote up their own networking stack, which has since been returned to the FreeBSD project, iirc).  So it might be worth your time to check that out and possibly run a mini BSD setup on an old computer or something to route the bandwidth to an internal network (of course this would likely require three NICs in a single computer...so more complexity there too).  Some of the problem you are running into may be due to the network just being congested, which could explain the differing speeds.  Then there may be an issue with certain servers not being able to push out 60 MB/s worth of data to you, for whatever reason.
Either way, please keep us posted about what you do and how you do it, I'm anxious to find out the final solution here.
    Best of luck to you.

  • Nokia 301 Dual SIM - Issues opening message folder...

Nokia as a company should be ashamed of manufacturing a phone like this(irrespective of if this is a issue with software or handset or both). I bought this assuming Nokia is a robust stable phone (Already have S3, but need a dual sim compact phone).
But lately i have been getting "Message storage memory not ready" when i try to open inbox or conversation folder (under 'Messages' menu).
Tried Hard Reset / Soft Reset and nothing worked. Restared the mobile and this did not work too (SIM Out, IN and Restart did work either) Couple of times after reset it worked fine. But after few minutes, it again showed up the same error message.
This is no abuse, but for Rs. 5700 that i paid this problem is bull **bleep**ting. And i would not expect this kind of useless product from Nokia.
And the hand set (Hands Free) that came with this phone does not stay in my ears even for a minute, it keeps falling.
    Be ashamed Nokia.
Phone is still in warranty, not sure what i can do with the warranty as iam out of the country now.
IAM NEVER EVER BUYING A NOKIA AGAIN.
Any solution to this issue will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks guys

    TrueLies1,
Warranty covers both parts and labour services that will be rendered to the phone. The device might get repaired or replaced with a new one depending on the evaluation made by the Care Point specialist.
You may try to send the the phone along with its box to the Care Point for warranty validation purposes. You may also locate the nearest Nokia Care Point by accessing this page at nokia.ly/1oj1joQ.
    Good luck

  • Dual screen issue

    Hi Team,
    I have dual screens. A Dell P190S (1280x1024) and a HP ZR22w (1920x1080). I have also an Intel® Q45 and Q43 Express Chipsets in my desktop PC.
When I use PS, sometimes the circle which indicates the size of the draw tool or the earse tool is freezing on my screens. Even if I close PS, it is still there or even when I lock my computer is still there.
Unfortunately I haven't found any solution for this issue.
Is it because of the different screen resolution?

OK, so we are talking about the same ball park circumstances from the historical problems with brush cursors.  I think Compaq computers are rather arbitary regards hardware and drivers, and don't usually allow much in the way of upgrading, so you could be stuck with what you have got.  All I can suggest it homing in on those paramiters with Google
Photoshop CS4 cursor issue or problem
    sort of thing.
This is the sort of hit you'll find
    http://www.earthboundlight.com/phototips/photoshop-cursor-problems.html
You'll hopefully find something that rings a bell or matches your circumstances closely.  Good luck.
[EDIT]  I wonder if your hardware will support Windows 7?  It has excellent dual screen support.  That irrifutable law of presentations, that 'when a Powerpoint and projector were involved, there will _always_ be a problem' has finally been broken.  If your employer was daft enough to invest in Compaq hardware, I doubt you'll get any help from them.
