Dual PSU w/Slave cable quesiton.

I am planning on running Tri-Sli w 3x470's.
I have 2 psu's that are not upto the task of doing that and running my system.
1st PSU
Corsair TX950
2nd PSU
Muskin Joule 1000
So I want to run my system from the 950 and gpu's from the 1000.
I know how to pin a PSU to make it turn on, I use 2 on my test bench.
I found an article about making a slave cable, and I found 1 for sale.
http://www.burningissues.net/how_to/power/adaptor.htm   <-How-to
http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=34_186&products_id=21193  -forsale
Now the one forsale isn't that much, but I noticed that the how-to has added pins jumped.
Is that needed? What are they for?
Dont want to end up with a dead system, so any feed back on this would be great.
Thanks,
Symp

yes,
it would be for everything listed in my signature,
plus an additional gtx470

My RIG is as my Sig below.
Currently using Enermax FMA II 460W PSU. Im planning to used 2nd GPU (ATI 3870) but im pretty sure that my current PSU can't support it.
Im thinking to use my 2nd "made in China 500W" PSU to power up all my HDD and ODD (3 SATA HDD, 1 IDE DVDRW).
Do you guys think this setup provide adequate power to my Crossfire card?
    My current PSU details:- http://www.enermax.com.tw/english/product_Display1.asp?PrID=53

I think it will be able to do it.
Which one bro? Let the FMA II handle it all OR continue with my 2nd PSU?
Which one consume more power? 7950GX2 or 2 x ATI HD 3870? that make me worrying my beloved Enermax..

  • Dual PSU in 4507+E: basic operation in redundant mode

I'm looking for a little bit of explanation about dual PSUs in Cisco switches.
We have a 4507+E switch, with two 4200W PSUs. I've been digging through the specs, and I think I know how much power the electrical contractor needs to provide, but I want to understand its operation in redundant mode.
Does one PSU carry the load, while the other sits, essentially idle? Then if the first one lets its smoke escape (fails), the second one takes the entire load.
More specifically, the max power for the entire switch is roughly 4200W, even though I have two 4200W PSUs.
    -John

    John,
    You have  2 choices
    1) Th DEFAULT - Redundant mode - One PSU supplies all power
with the 2nd one in hot standby
    2) Combined - Both PSUs share the the load but some cards may loose their poer if
a PSU fails and the remaining PSU can supply any more power

  • Mini DisplayPort to DVI-D Dual Cable/Adapter for mid-2010 iMac?

    Hi . . .
Sorry to pester with a question that's been covered from various angles before, but I'm new to the Mac world. Am a musician in BC, Canada doing a project remotely with people in Ontario. Decided to ditch my PC-based recording rig and went with a 2010 iMac and Logic Pro X (hallelujah!) because the other people are using Logic Pro X. So . . . I'm just learning the ropes.
Anyway . . . I have a spare monitor I want to run in dual setup extended desktop, and I'm not 100% certain of the cable and/or adapter I'll need. I'm also not sure why the adapters are bigger and seem to contain more internal components, whereas the cables just look like a simple "Plug 1" connected to "Plug 2" cable in a variety of lengths (in the same way you'd have a XLR to 1/4" phono cable).
Here's the info on my system, and any help would be greatly appreciated (will a cable suffice or do I need an separate adapter, DVI type, etc).
My iMac (mid-2010 21" Core i3 with Firewire running Moutain Lion 10.8.5):
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/imac/specs/imac-core-i3-3.06-21-inch-alumi num-mid-2010-specs.html
My monitor I want use as an extended desktop (Acer 22" X223W LCD):
    http://reviews.cnet.com/lcd-monitors/acer-x223w-lcd-monitor/4507-3174_7-32627876 .html
So, it appears I'll need a male Mini DisplayPort to a male DVI-D Dual adapter and/or cable. Do I need to specifically buy a DVI-D Dual cable? Will a simple cable function properly or do I also need an adapter? I'm pretty sure a DVI-I cable won't work because it would have extra pins that aren't present in the DVI-D.
Thanks again . . . the assistance is appreciated.
    Suds . . .

    You are overthinking this.
"DVI dual link support" is concerned about the resolution of the display, not the number of displays.   A dual-link adapter or cable basically has double the number of wires to carry extra data to support higher resolutions than a single-link cable.  Of course, both the computer and the external display must also support the higher resolutions in order to take advantage of the capabilities of dual-link.
You want to use two displays ... your iMac's buit-in display + your Acer display as a second monitor (what you called "dual monitors").  You can do this, as I explained earlier.
Your Acer monitor's maxiumum resolution of 1680 x 1050 is not high enough to require a dual-link connection.
"In single-link mode, the maximum pixel clock frequency is 165 MHz that supports a maximum resolution of 2.75 megapixels (including blanking interval) at 60 Hz refresh. For practical purposes, this allows a maximum 16:9 screen resolution of 1920 × 1080 at 60 Hz (1915 × 1436 at a 4:3 ratio).
To support higher-resolution display devices, the DVI specification contains a provision for dual link. Dual-link DVI doubles the number of TMDS pairs, effectively doubling the video bandwidth. As a result, higher resolutions up to 2560 × 1600 are supported at 60 Hz [via dual-link DVI]."   (See Digital Visual Interface, Wikipedia)
You can connect almost any VGA, DVI or HDMI display to your iMac, using the appropriate cable and/or adapter.  Of course, you always have to make sure that your cable has the correct gender plug on each end.   The Apple adapter I recommended has a female connector, so you will need a cable with a male DVI-D plug on one end.  As for the other end of the cable, check the input on your Acer display to see what it has and select a cable that has an appropriate gender connector on the end that will plug into your Acer monitor.
In extended desktop mode, you can set separate (independent) resolutions for your iMac display and your external Acer display, taking advantage of the maximum resolution of each.   (For example, that's why the MacBookPro example you cited works, it's because that model MacBook Pro can support higher resolutions on an external display than it's built-in LCD panel can.)

  • Monitor does not come out of sleep Mac-Mini Mini-DVI to Dual  DVI-D cable

I have an August 2009 Mac-Mini that I'm using with an Apple supplied Mini-DVI to DVI adapter along with a DVI-D Dual Link Cable connect to a Sceptre X7XV-Naga+ LCD monitor.
The monitor is going into sleep mode on its own with no way to disable this feature on the monitor itself. I've disabled sleep mode on the Mac-Mini in the power setting in System Preferences.
When in sleep mode and I move the mouse or press a key, the monitor will not come out of sleep mode. From other posts, I read that the issue might be that I wasn't using a Dual-Link DVI-D cable, so I bought one and installed such a cable. That has not resolved the problem. The monitor will not come out of sleep mode. When I have the monitor connected with a mini-display port to VGA adapter instead of a DVI-D cable, it will come out of sleep mode every time.

I know it's a year later, but I'm not finding much through search.
I have the same exact problem.  Difference being I'm using an iMac with 10.7.5.
Same video board and monitor - ATI Radeon HD 6750M video card connected via DisplayPort to Samsing S24A850DW.
I've tried two different mini-DisplayPort to DisplayPort cables and no change.
I think I read that 10.8.3 might fix the issue.  Anyone that can confirm that, or has another solution?

  • Is there a way to run dual monitors using a mini display port cable?

I want to connect my 21.5-inch, Mid 2010 iMac to my 13-inch, Mid 2010 MacBook Pro and run dual monitors with the cable because they don't have thunderbolt plugs. I wan't to use two displays for Logic Pro to expand my real estate. I'm not looking to spend over $50 on crazy adapters so cheaper options would be great.
    Thanks

  • Z87M-G43 & PSU Connector Question

    MoBo: MSI Z87M-G43
    PSU: EVGA Supernova NEX650G
MoBo's owner's manual says to connect PSU to MoBo using 24-pin ATX cable from PSU to connector labeled "JPWR1". And, from PSU to connector labeled "JPWR2". The 24-pin cable connect to JPWR1 fits just fine. However, the 24-pin cable is a single cable. It does not split into two connectors. The youtube video (linked from the owner's manual) shows a cable coming from the PSU that splits into a 24-pin connector and a 8-pin connector. (It looks like it's a split cable.)
The PSU comes with a 12-Volt ATX 4-pin ATX cable.
There is no connector on the PSU that accepts the 4-pin cable.
The MoBo connector labelled "JPWR2" is a four pin connector arranged in a square configuration. The PSU's cable is a 4-pin arranged in a straight line.
How do I connect my PSU to the JPWR2 connection?

the JPWR2 is a 8PIN EPS connector and the cable for that should be among the modular cables in your PSU's additional cables! its either a Dual 4 pin connector or a 4x2 (8 pin block that connects to one of the points next to the PCI-E connections marked CPU1 or CPU2)

  • Single Link DVI-I to Dual Link DVI-D?!!

I have a (G1)Power Mac G5 with a ATI Radeon 9800 Pro with a Single Link DVI-I connecter, and my LG 19'' LCD has a Dual Link DVI-D connecter. What DVI cable do I need? I heard the newer Dual Link DVI-D cable will work with the older Single Link DVI-I. if it does, how does this work? DVI-I and DVI-D has differant pin slots. Please help!

The display is probably single-link DVD unless it is more than 1920 X 1200. The DVI plug may have all the pins, but the dual-link pins are probably not connected to any wires. The Graphics board uses DVI-I which include digital and analog. It can be used with DVI-D cables which don't use the analog signals.

  • Display port Dual link DVI to Gateway XHD3000

The *displayport to dual-link dvi adapter* I bought doesn't seem to work with resolutions > 1920x1200. My Gateway XHD3000 monitor supports upto 2560x1600 but I can't set this resolution in the system preferences. I have set my power setting to "+Better Performance+" hoping the other GPU would be used but still the same lower resolution.
I'm using the Dual-link cable that came with my monitor.
I actually have 2 systems exactly the same with this problem.

Here is what the Gateway Tech support had to say. *Very helpful*....punt!

    Dear Emmett Bearden,
Thank you for contacting Gateway. I apologize for the inconvenience that you have experienced. If you cannot set the monitor resolution greater than 1920 x 1200 or up to 2560 x 1600, this may occur if your MacBook Pro does not support dual-DVI output, does not support this kind of ultra-high resolution, or does not have the latest video driver. I suggest you please first contact Apple's technical support, to inquire if the MacBook Pro supports this resolution, or if they have a workaround for this problem.
    Respectfully,

Using my Apple MacBook Pro I'm unable to display a resolution greater that 1920x1200. I bought this monitor for the 2560x1600 resolution. My connection is a dual dvi using the cable that came with the monitor.

  • AirPort Extreme (802.11n) dual band is reporting problems?

    Hi.
I can not find an answer for my error-problem:
AirPort Extreme (802.11n) dual band is reporting problems!
I have an optimum on line cable modem connected to my AirPort Extreme (802.11n) dual band.
Ethernet cables connect it 1. into my new Nehalem Mac Pro, 2. into my back-up Quicksilver PowerMac. I also have 2nd gen. iPod touch works on WiFi.
This set-up has been working well but now I daily get the above error. Sometimes it says also: You have different locations set-up and it asks me to go through the set-up procedure. May be I did the initial set-up incorrect. I don't quite understand "locations" and it's purpose.
Also the Airport runs very hot so I put a small fan in front of it. A few times I had to disconnect the cable mains to reset and get back my service. Please help.

Can you tell what's telling you about those locations? An Apple AirPort unit can maintain different "configurations" so that it could be used in different locations without a complete reconfiguration. However, I don't believe they're ever referred to as "locations". On the other hand, a Mac can have multiple "locations" defined in the Network panel of System Preferences. Those can be useful if the Mac is used in different places with different arrangements.
If your AirPort Extreme is having problems the status light on the front will probably be amber. If you launch AirPort Utility and double-click on the AirPort Extreme item on the left, you should be able to see more details about the problem.

  • Slave does not automatically authenticate when master is down

We are running MFA in a dual server master-slave configuration. When the master MFA server is down the slave does not automatically take over. You have to open the GUI and promote the slave server to master to get it working again. I expected the slave to
authenticate without administrator intervention. Is this by design? We are running latest version 6.3.1.1.
    In this thread
    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/86efa99d-361c-4f83-bfba-fd75b4505590/azure-mfa-server-replication-and-failover?forum=windowsazureactiveauthentication
someone mentions the same problem. The reply goes as follows:
"Regardless of the UI, if an authentication request is sent to the slave, it will process it"
If the master server is offline, it does not.
    it is also mentioned that
"One option for HA is to point at one MFA Server as a primary authentication target and another as
    a backup authentication target"
Where? I cannot find this option anywhere in the MFA interface. Thanks in advance.

    Hi Sadiqh,
thanks for your reply! I had already dug through the link you gave me. For your information: we are using MFA to secure a sharepoint site via IIS. I understand about the 'no updates without the master' thing but in the link it is also said:
"A slave can process authentication whether the master is up or not"
It can, but you have to promote it to master manually. It does not process authentication requests from remote users on its own.
"The slave will only do work when the master is offline"
What work? It appears to not include authentication request from remote users. At least, not automatically. You have to promote it to master first.
    Finally, it is being said:
"The on-premises Azure MFA Servers don’t do any kind of failover on its own"
So, if I am understanding this right you WILL HAVE to promote the slave server to master manually when the master is offline. I am wondering if I can use the MFA API to write a custom script which checks if the master server is offline or not and promote
to master if needed. If so, I would expect this functionality to be already there with MFA itself. What's the purpose of an MFA cluster if it requires manual user intervention for failover?
Edit: I am now looking into the powershell module obtainable at http://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/downloads/ but
none of the commandlets seem to support managing the multi factor auth providers via powershell.
Also, the Azure AD module obtainable at https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/azure/jj151815.aspx seems to be focused at user administration and no support
    for Multi-Factor Auth providers.
Also, the command line tool obtainable athttp://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/xplat-cli/ also does not seem to have support for managing multi factor auth providers.
    Any ideas/suggestions?

Where is the physicalInterfaces stuff? I have two things plugged in on the LAN ports, a NetGear GS108 switch and the mac mini (statically assigned IP) so I think I should see them via SNMP much like it's mentioned here:

    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks,

  • ABS Dual Ethernet -- Error writing configuration during hard reset mode

This has been a full day of troubleshooting this one. After downloading the Airport Admin Utility 4.2.5, I was finally able to see the old ABS Dual Ethernet via ethernet cable plugged into the LAN port from a Macbook running 10.5.2. We don't know the password to login into the base station and a soft reset hasn't stripped the password from the base station.
So.. I got ABS into hard reset mode with the middle LED blinking once every second as described in the Apple documentation, and was able to seethe ABS from the Airport Admin Utility. HOWEVER, when I try to configure the ABS, I enter my Admin username and password, am prompted to temporarily change TCP/IP settings for this computer and then "Writing configuration..." comes up.. but a few seconds later I get an error message "An error occurred while writing the configuration."
    That's it. No other explanation.
No idea where to go from here.
My network settings are set in Manual mode to the following:
    IP: 192.42.249.15
    Subnet: 255.255.255.0
    Router: 192.42.249.13
    Any ideas with this one?

If I understand your post correctly, "when I try to configure the ABS" in the second paragraph refers to clicking the Configure button while trying to reload base station software (i.e., step 16 in Apple's document titled AirPort Base Station (Dual Ethernet) : How to reload software from Mac OS X).
I suggest that in order to reload the base station software, you make sure that AirPort is inactive on your computer and that the manual network settings you described are in the "Show: Built-in Ethernet" part of Network preferences.
Beyond that, I'd recommend re-doing the hard reset, possibly multiple times if it doesn't succeed the first time.
On the other hand, if you successfully reloaded the base station software and are indeed trying to configure the base station's settings, then quit AirPort Admin Utility, restore the computer's Network Ethernet settings to Using DHCP, and reopen AirPort Admin Utility (steps 18-20 of Apple's document).

Previously Garageband allowed you to export to mp3 by clicking Share>Export to Disk> MP3 encoder, this seems to be missing in the new version. Anyone know how to get it back?
