Dual Radio WGB and LWAPP Controller

Hallo everyone,
I have a wireless network managed by a 4402 controller with this sw version : 5.2.178.0
The client wants to add a stand alone wgb (cisco 1242 with an ios 12.4(21) ). The standalone ap associate to an LWAPP AP using the 5Ghz interface and propagate the same ssid at 2.4Ghz (I've also tried using a different ssid ). Actually the WGB is the only AP using that SSID at 2.4Ghz. As for the wired clients of the WGB I have no problems but if the client associate to the 2.4 Ghz SSID, I see it associated on the controller but no traffic from or to the client is allowed.
If for any case, the 5Ghz interface is resetted and the association betweeen the WGB and the controller is reformed, the 2.4Ghz client starts receiving and receiving traffic.
Any idea how to set things up from the the first association?
The wgb ssid is not set as infrastructure-client and the controller correclty identify it as a WGB client. In the same way the controller correclty see the 2.Ghz client like a wired client of the WGB but unless the association b.t.w the WGB and the controller is reset, no traffic reach the client.
I think that may be a problem related to how the IAPP protocol notify the presence of a client to WGB but I don't know how to work things out.. any idea?
Thank you in advance!

The 3600 series Access Points can have either internal or external antennae.  You can tell by looking at the top of the AP.  If there are 4 antenna connections (one in each corner) then they are external antennae.
If you cannot get to the AP to check them physically, the antenna type is also denoted by the part number.
AIR-CAP3602I-x-K9 has internal antennae
AIR-CAP3602E-x-K9 has external antennae
The 3600 does have dual radios built in, operating in the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequency ranges.  However, for them to show up as such, you have to enable both radios on the AP.  You can do this either through the WebUI or the CLI.
The 802.11ac option is an external module that is attached to the underside of the 3600 AP.  Please find the datasheet for the module here:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/modules/ps12859/ps13128/data_sheet_c78-727794.html
The 1552c Series access points are also dual-radio systems and should also have both radios turned on through the WebUI or CLI.  Note the quote " The Cisco Aironet 1552C/1552CU Outdoor Mesh Access Points are dual-radio systems with DOCSIS 3.0/EuroDOCSIS 3.0 (8x4 HFC) compliant cable modem for power and backhaul." taken from the datasheet for these APs found here:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/wireless/ps5679/ps11451/data_sheet_c78-641373.html
Cisco ships the APs with one Radio enabled and if you want the dual-radio functionality, you have to turn that on.  Once that is done, you should see the APs show up correctly in the WLC 5508.

  • AP1252 in dual radio mode with in-line power.

    Hi,
Has anyone actually managed to deploy the AP1252s in dual radio mode and been able to power via a POE device?
The information regarding max power supplied is misleading.
For example, the 6500 802.3af POE line cards appear to only provide a max of 16.8W (from the 12.2.33SXH2 release notes).
The 4500E with the new enhanced POE line cards can apparently provide 20W with 12.2.44SG release.
The 3560E/3750E documentation is contradictory - early bulletins state support for Enh POE and then the more recent notes state that it is not supported.
Any real world experience of this issue would be greatly received.
    Thanks

What you have here is correct. 6500 with a sup720 and 12.2.33shx2 will only provide max of 16.8W. The E-Series can provide the 20W max as long as you have the correct code.

  • Bridge and Client Mode for dual radio 3502

I want to use my dual radio 3502e AP to service clients on the 2.4 MHz and do a point to point bridge on the 5 GHz.  Is that possible?

    Hi,
3500 series AP's are technically only supported in lightweight (controller based) mode.
7.0.116.0 allows 3500's (as well as most other models) to operate in mesh mode.  This would be a better alternative.

    Hi Andrew,
LAP always download the image run on a WLC (in this case 3850). So no point upgrade LAP independantly as it will always sync with image run on the controller it joins.
In this case you can upgrade 3850 to 3.3.2 (which is the latest image as of today) if you are not already running that code

  • Using 3560 8 port PoE to power up 1252 dual radio AP for b\g clients

    Hi,
We have a couple of 3560 8 port PoE switches that we plan to use to power up 1252 APs (not ordered yet). Now since the 3560 switch will only support one radio, is it possible to order a pre installed dual radio 1252 AP, disable the 5 Ghz one and enable the 2.4 Ghz, so that b/g clients can access the network, until a PoE+ switch is purchased?
    All help is appreciated
    Thanks

Slight misconception here.  The 3560 will power the AP and both radios, so long as you are running 4.2.112.0 or higher on the WLC, or 12.4(10b)JDC or higher for an autonomous AP.  The caveat here, is you will run in a degraded state for N rates.
The below link describes the power to N rate relationship:

  • Communication between : AP and WLAN controller

    Hi,
The communication between AP and WLAN Controller is ( Data and Control ) UDP.
Source port 1024 and destination port 12222 and 12223. Actually which device listen to which port or both should listen as control and data can be generated from both the devices.
How does the user ( wireless client) traffic is switched - if user traffic is a TCP traffic. It will be sent to WLANC and then WLANC forwards it to respective VLAN or default gateway ( depending upon the destination in the packet ).
Please explain / share the experience.
    any link on cisco.com
    Thanka in advance
    Subodh

"the LWAPP Control and Data messages are encapsulated in UDP packets that are carried over the IP network. The only requirement is established IP connectivity between the access points and the WLC. The LWAPP tunnel uses the access point's IP address and the WLC's AP Manager interface IP address as endpoints. The AP Manager interface is explained in further detail in the
implementation section. On the access point side, both LWAPP Control and Data messages use an ephemeral port that is derived from a hash of the access point MAC address as the UDP port. On the WLC side, LWAPP Data messages always use UDP port 12222. On the WLC side, LWAPP Control messages always use UDP port 12223.
The mechanics and sequencing of Layer 3 LWAPP are similar to Layer 2 LWAPP except that the packets are carried in UDP packets instead of being encapsulated in Ethernet frames."

  • Dual radio's

I currently have a wireless network setup with 2 1230AG access points. I have started to recieve complaints about speed issues. I have done a little research and cannot determine if it is better for me to add more access points or get antenna's for, and turn on the 802.11a radio on my exisiting access points. any suggestions? I also have 2 follow questions. If I add 802.11a radio's and set it up with the same setup (SSID and Key) as the 802.11g radio's, will everyone who has a/b/g card wireles cards connect to the A or do wireless cards know to connect to the best quality (speed/signal) network? on the other hand, if I add more access points and set them up with the same setup (SSID adn Key) is there a possibility that a majority of the users will connect to the same access point? what i am trying to get at is do wireless network cards have the ability to chose the best access point if they are in range of 2 that are configured identically?
any help or if anyone has a good article about this it would be appreciated.

How many users do you have associated to the Access Points, and what are they using it for? First thing to do is to set an expectation that wireless is slower than a wire - much slower. On a very good day, you'll get no more than 19Mbps of real throughput via a 54Mbps radio. Don't forget that 19Mbps is contended by every associated client.
    There are a number of ways to increase the speed of your wireless network;
1 - Reduce (IP) broadcast traffic. Broadcast traffic is transmitted at the lowest available data-rate, which is typically 1Mbit. By reducing the amount of broadcast traffic (smaller VLANs typically, or perhaps some ACLs? or adjusting client configs), you will improve overall throughput.
2 - Adjust minimum supported data-rate. Broadcast and multicast traffic happens at the lowest support data-rate, typically 1Mbit. By increasing this data rate (to say, 11Mbps), you will improve network throughput.
    BUT
If you do this, clients at the edge of your WiFi cell may not be able to connect to the WLAN. You need to establish what the lowest data-rate is, and adjust accordingly. If a clients link quality is too low to support 11Mbps (for exmaple), then it won't be able to connect to the WLAN.
3 - Increase AP density. Depending upon what part of the world you're in, APs can have rather large coverage areas, but typically only have three none-overlapping channels. If you increase AP density, you must be careful to reduce your cell sizes (ie, lower the tx power) and set the channels accordingly. 1, 6 & 11 are fine in most parts of the world.
4 - Adding 5GHz radios. This will effectively double the max throughput of your network from 108 Mbps (2x 54Mbps) to 216 Mbps (4x 54Mbps), providing the clients distribute themselves evenly. You will find that 2.4GHz travels 'better' than 5GHz, which by its nature has less penetrating power. Clients closer to your AP will probably use A, while clients at distance will probably use B/G. "Yes, The A/B/G cards will roam between the APs / Radios as necessary."
5 - Controlling Client Associations. This is largely a client-side thing, but the good folks at Cisco have invented something called CCX, which depending upon the version in use on both the AP and the Client, can influence roaming decisions, which effectively helps with load balancing. AP CCX is controller through IOS releases. Client CCX is controller through client-side driver releases.
    Hope this helps.
    Richard.

the user to type into freely what product, category, or store name
    they are seeking.
I have tried to attach dynamic radio feature to the buttons
and I've also tried quite a few different ideas with the recordset,
but nothing has worked. When I search for a product, I am given
results of the product for both buy and share so obviously the
radio group isn't separating the results to either buy or share.
The trouble is that I don't know what I'm doing wrong, is it
something with the radio group? the recordset? the dynamic form
elements? my php code, should I have a conditional statement
surrounding the buttons so that if 'buy' is true then retrieve the
database for 'buy' else 'share' true then get that information,
else neither are true display 'no results'?... Thank you for the
    help!
I have attached the relevant code...
    Brad

    Hi,
One way to achieve this would be to
Create an Item 'Radiogroup (with Submit)' called PXX_RADIO and enter 'STATIC:SQL 1;1,SQL 2;2,SQL 3;3' in the List of values definition
Create a region of type 'SQL Query (PL/SQL function body returning SQL query) and enter
    begin
    IF :PXX_RADIO = 1
    THEN
    return 'Select 1 from dual;';
    ELSIF :PXX_RADIO = 2
    THEN
    return 'Select 2,2 from dual;';
    ELSIF :PXX_RADIO = 3
    THEN
    return 'Select 3,3,3 from dual;';
    end if;
    end;
Set the region to use 'Use Generic Column Names (parse query at runtime only)
In the regions conditional display set condition type to 'Value of Item in Expression 1 is NOT NULL' and enter PXX_RADIO in Expression 1
So depending on the value of the radiogroup the relevant SQL is executed.
    Hope this helps

  • Multicast for Aironet 1310 WGB and 1242 AP

I have configured a Aironet 1310 bridge as a WGB and is connected to a Aironet 1242AG AP wirelessly!
A sensor(IP device) is wired into the 1310WGB. The sensor needs MULTICAST to operate!
I checked the DETAILED STATUS of the RADIO and both the 1310 and 1242 are blocking multicast!
The RELIABLE MULTICAST TO WGB option is enabled on the 1242AP already! No luck as yet!
    Any thoughts??

You configuration is not correct. You can remove the line ‘domain-name CISCO-LWAPP-CONTROLLER.mydomain.com’ or replace it with ‘domain-name mydomain.com’ and configure the DNS server with both "CISCO-LWAPP-CONTROLLER.mydomain.com" and "CISCO-CAPWAP-CONTROLLER.mydomain.com" pointing to 172.16.00.25.
I suggest that you remove this line and forget about DNS and go for DHCP option 60 and 43 as you already have configured. You do not need both the DNS configuration and DHCP option 43.
Since you have configured ‘option 60 ascii "Cisco AP c1250"’ and ‘option 43 hex f104ac100019’ then your 1250s should try to associate with the controller 172.16.00.25.
Please post more of the syslog and look for events regarding DHCP option 43.
Is the address 172.16.00.25 for the WLC correct?

    André

  • CISCO-LWAPP-CONTROLLER

    Hello,
I am trying to get this officeextend working.
I connected the ap and checked the H-Reap box and then officeextend and gave it a public ip. This public ip is NAT'd to the dmz controller on the firewall. (The dmz controller is 5508 running code 6.0.199.4)
I have connected this officeextend 1132 ap to a broadband connection and this gets an ip of 192.168.1.23 on its fa0 interface. all good till now.
when i console onto the officeextend 1132 AP, i get an error msg could not resolve Cisco-LWAPP-Controller.abc.uk....domain server (192.168.1.254) and Cisco-CAPWAP-Controller.home.uk...think it needs DNS set to the public ip on the local asdl box, is it ?
if this is the case, I am not sure if i can do this as this is controlled by the ISP

I have added this now scott on the management interface but still cant get the AP to join the controller. This AP is connected to a broadband wireless router connected back to a ADSL router that has the DNS settings
(also i cant see any traffic hitting on ports 5246 and 5247 on the firewall. so think this AP is not trying to go out )
    it comes up with

  • Cisco 1142 WGB in a controller based network

    Hi,
I have trouble with Cisco AP1142 which is configured in WGB mode. I'm trying to get it work in a controller based network, where LAPs are configured in H-REAP. SSID where WGB should be associated drops it traffic to VLAN60. Security type is WPA2-PSK.
I've configured the WGB and it associates and gets IP from the correct network....but the problem is that laptop connected to WGB won't work. It gets no IP address and won't work with static IP.
At the moment I have no VLANs configured on the WGB - should I have?
AP IOS version is 12.4(25d)JA and WLC version is 7.0.98.0.
Please find config file attached and also a topology image. Hope these help.
    Br,
    Petri

    Hi Petri,
WGB mode with HREAP is not supported:
    http://tools.cisco.com/squish/dcAfC
    http://tools.cisco.com/squish/CcFE6
You may want to test this with uWGB mode and static IP config. However, there is a new bug filed for uWGB mode as well:
CSCtl21683    uWGB needs official testing and support with h-reap

  • Which WLC interface should be resolved from cisco-lwapp-controller.domain

    Hi,
we use several 4402 wlc and want the aps connect to connect to them via dns discovery.
It would be fine if somebody could tell me to which ip address (in our dns database) I have to add an alias for cisco-lwapp-controller.<domain>.
Is it the management interface, the ap manager interface or one/all dynamic interface(s)?
Is there any hint concerning this in the documentation?
    Best Regards,
    Thorsten

You use the management interface of the WLC.
Here is a good link also if you have issues:

  • Dual radio in the 4s

I hope someone can answer this question. Seeing as how the new 4s has dual radios and can run on both gsm and cdma does it allow for the ability to switch when verizon`s signal is weak to the possibly stronger signal provided by gsm? Essentially switch to at&t`s towers for improved reception and vice versa.

    Corato wrote:
I will be switching from 3GS on AT&T. The Verizon Sales rep told me that with Verizon world phones one can use local pre-paid minute SIM cards when traveling in some international locations. Not sure if that is REALLY the case but since I do not travel internationally that much no big deal for me.
Oh, that is certainly true, I use the Droid 2 Global that way when travelling in Europe.   You need to get the phone unlocked to use a SIM other than the one that comes with the global phones.
Now, we don't know if the 4S will have the same unlocking policies as the other world phones, if not you might be stuck with using the provided SIM and the rates are very expensive!  (How expensive? Just as an example, calls from UK to US, prepaid SIM about 6cents per min, Verizon charges 99c per min with the reduced rate plan.  Data in UK, verizon offers three plans, 50MB for $30/month, 150MB for $75MB per month, or 300MB for $125 per month.   The prepaid SIM I use, about 15cents per day for 25MB per day, so 750MB for $5 per month)   It's of course possible there maybe special plans for the iPhone 4S.

  • LWAPP cannot translate cisco-lwapp-controller

    Hi all:
I had add a hostname to DNS server as CISCO-LWAPP-CONTROLLER . and i use my controller as a internal DHCP server , it will assign ip to a lot of vlan. My lightweigh ap cannot translate the cisco-lwapp-controller and other a record at DNS server .

Can you translate that on the local lan? Verify that the manamgement and ap-manager is configured for vlan "0" untagged and that the trunk port is setup with the native vlan of the WLC management and ap-manager interface. If you console in the ap and power cycle the ap, what does the log show. Post the log so we can take a look at it.
