Dual Ram in slots 1+2 or 1+3

so is it determined which two slots are optimal for dual ram placement?

With the K8T, MSI stated DIMM slots 1 and 2 for optimum performance. The K8N is not as simple, performance is assured by occupying the DIMM slots per RAM type, and whether it is single or double banked...DIMM slots 1 and 2 or DIMM slots 1 and 3 are the only approved configurations for 2 sticks of double banked modules whereas DDR400 speeds can be assured.

  • Tecra 8200 doesn't recognize RAM in Slot B

Since a few days my Tecra doesn't recognize the RAM Module in Slot B. Before all was fine. I have 2x256MB Modules. I was wondering why my Tecra becomes more slow the last days and then i saw that i have now just 256MB RAM. I change the Modules from Slot A to B. I checked also both RAM moduls with MEMCheck. Both are ok! Just when i put one RAM to Slot B and none to Slot A my Tecra doesn't boot up! If i insert both moduls my Tecra boots up but just with 256MB RAM.
Is there an other solution then to buy a new Notebook? Is my Mainbord demaged?
I was so contently with my Tecra until now ;-)

    Hi
Like Joao said, probably the memory slot B is defective and therefore the memory module cannot be recognized.
The notebook supports max 512MB (2x256MB) but I dont know if the single 512MB module can be used in one slot.
    I presume its not possible.

  • MSI p67a-gd53 (b3) Wont boot with ram in slot 1 and 3, or 2 and 4.

Hi i recently built my own system, with just one ram stick in it boots fine and everything.
When i try to put the other stick in slot for so that in runs dual channel it just wont boot, it turns on starts the fans up and then just goes off, and repeats this.
The ram i have is Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit.
It also doesnt work in slots 2 and 4, can anyone help me :(?
    My setup is :
OCZ ZS Series 650W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply
Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail
    MSI P67A-GD53 Intel P67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
MSI ATI Radeon HD 6870 OC HAWK 1024MB
    Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 4GB
    Seagate Barracuda 500gb HD
Gets no beeps on boot with just one stick in, im really confused :s
    All Help will be appreciated.

Both ram sticks worked in slot one and it would boot but I tried running a game and it froze each occasion, cud this be due to the ram being dual channel and only having one in? Or that the ram has the wrong settings.
I have returned the motherboard along with the ram to the shop i got it from for tests to see if the dimm slots had problems. Il let you guys know what they say.
Thanks for the advice, when I get it back il build it again and see if it runs fine, if not il try the things youve said.
Can anyone else shed any light on this? Any other things I may have to try?
    Thx again

  • Mac Mini shows one ram card slot empty?

    Hi
I have a mac mini 2.3 i5 purchased in 2012. It came with 2gb of ram. I exchanged the 2 1gb cards for 2 4gb cards as per instructions.
It seemed to be a bit slower than I expected all along. I recently checked the system info and it shows only 4gb total ram. 4gb in 1 socket and the second sockets shows EMPTY.
I reversed the cards and it made no difference. I put the old cards back in and it still showed one slot EMPTY?
Is there any option that I should be choosing to turn the other socket on?  Does this indicate a problem with the unit?
    Thanks Much!

Try pushing the bottom module firmly into it's slot
and swing it down into the clips,
then do the same with a module in the top slot.

  • Ram and slots

I was thinking of getting a 1gb ram stick whereas i will be aleady having a 512mb in the other slot of my macbook.
I know apple recommends putting equal amount in each slot but, i wanted to know does doing so harm the mac. Does it hamper the performace in anyway.
    macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

As Andrew mentions, the stock configuration is 2 x 256MB. While you certainly can add mismatched pairs, there is an increase in graphics performance if the sticks are of the same size.
If you configure yours to order from Apple, they charge $100 to go to 1GB, but you can go all the way to 2GB for about $160 from a retailer like New Egg. I have two of THESE Patriot sticks in my and they work perfectly.

  • Adding RAM - which slot has original 64?

When I bought my flower power imac 500 mhz I added ram. It was originally supposed to come with two 64 mg slots but I had 128 installed bringing it up to 192. Thought back then this was enough : ) . I want to add RAM but don't know which one is the 64 Mg one. Would it be the bottom or the top one. I tried to read the labels and it doesn't seem to say on it. One does have a blue stickey dot on it. I was thinking this is the larger one. It is on the top when you are looking inside the slot in the back. Anyone know if there is anyway to tell. Don't want to take the wrong one out.

    Hello Kathy,
Go into System Profiler. Click on Memory. It will
show the two slots. On my 400MHz the two slots
are J13 and J14. J13 is the TOP slot. Hope this helps.

Was mache ich jetzt?

  • Board won't post with Ram in slot 2

My msi z77ia-e53  build responds like no ram is in the system (CPU Just cycles on and off every few seconds) if there is ram in the second slot, both ram sticks are good, I Found another someone else who had the same issue on an older topic but no answer to it

By the description, it sounds very possible that there are bent pin(s) in the CPU socket. Other causes can involve the CPU cooler installation, errant standoffs underneath the mainboard, or a faulty DIMM slot.

  • Tecra S3 - problems with new ram in slot B

    Hello,
I have a new 2 GB ram. When I put it in Slot A (Slot B is empty) it works perfect. When I put my old ram (1GB) in Slot B now and try to powerup, I hear Beeps: 1x long, and 4x short. The Screen stays black. Do you know what this is?
    Thanks for your help!!

    Hi
The beeps mean that the POST (power on self test) could not be passed properly.
Either your B slot malfunctions or the notebook needs 2 memory modules installed in two slots in order to use the also the second memory slot.
But my assumption is that your second slot might be faulty.

  • Ram lower slot - PB won't start

    Hallo
I tried moving my 512 mb ram from upper to lower slot and got a beep at boot (just like calling a busy phone) and the lid white light blinking. I found that is a known issue but....is there a way to fix it? I would like to upgrade to 2 gb

The LAST DDR2 PowerBooks are good until middle of 2012 ..
How do I know this? Apple looked it up as well as AMA Systems, a local Apple authorized repair center.. there are many places to get parts for these machines, and ebay isn't really one of them..
But for those with Quad G5's, PowerBook G4's DDR2 - the actual end of life for service will be sometime in 2012. There is plenty of time still to get the parts you need.
If you already have an intel mac, then don't worry about it.. but its good to have a PPC and Intel mac just in case you need to run something and the Intel Mac won't run a particular application if Rosetta won't allow it to work fully.
And yes, I believe both platforms are just as good.. I have no problem using a PowerBook G4 in public, as it does 70 percent of my everyday tasks, including watching youtube, and with the help of TenFourFox and modified codecs, I can play up to 720p with mplayer OS X Extended + quicktime codecs + HTML5.

  • Quicksilver Dual 1GHz PCI Slot Usage

I just purchased this QS off eBay, and have developed the following configuration under OS X 10.3.9:
    Slot 1 GeForce4 MX
    Slot 2 ATTO ExpressPCIProUL3d with 50GB Seagate
    Slot 3 Sonnet Tango FW/USB
    Slot 4 M-Audio 2496
    Slot 5 Sonnet ATA100 with a Maxtor 60GB attached
I'm running the OS and most applications off a Seagate pATA 120GB attached to the motherboard ATA channel. It is new and of the 7200.9 model.
Is this an optimal arrangement? or does it matter?
Heatwise, the 50GB drive is warmer (and thicker) than the others, so I put it into the middle floor bay. It is an SCA type and has an adapter on it, which makes it close when the door is closed ... close to the main set of powercables that are bundled together towards the middle, and plugged into the motherboard. Maybe too close?
The ATA cable to the Maxtor and the SCSI cable to the Seagate SCA are clothes-pinned separately to neaten the cabling.
    Any comments?
One additional observation: My external power light has 2+ levels of brightness as I power up the QS ... is this normal? or am I taxing the power supply (or is this a sign of a weak power supply)?
    Mac Plus, Performa 6116, PPC 8500, 9500, QS 2@1GHz   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   1.5GB RAM

Here are some responses (to date) for the power consumptions:
Slot 1 GeForce4 MX (no information available from Apple, nVidia or other sources)
    Slot 2
    Slot 3 ATTO ExpressPCIProUL3d with 50GB Seagate (4.35 Watts/5V (ATTOTech))
Slot 4 Sonnet Trio FW/USB/ATA133 with Maxtor 60GB attached (<= 15 Watts (SonnetTech))
    Slot 5 M-Audio 2496 (no response from M-Audio)
Assuming a maximum of 15 watts per card gives a max of 75 watts for the PCI bus.<br>

  • K8T Neo2-F MS-6702E Error using Dual Channel RAM slots

    Hello
with RAM banks on slot 1 & 3 or 2&4 as recomanded, the PC doesn't start up
on the D-Bracket 3 red leds signs memory error!
The Ram is Kingston kit 2x512 KVR400x64C3AK2/1G
    Someone can help me?

I thought you may be interested to know of my experience with memory on this motherboard. I had 2 x 256MB of Geil Value PC3200 DDR Ram on slots 1 and 3 for months and months with no problem at all - they were identical modules but NOT a matched pair - and ran in dual channel mode @ 2.5 3 3 6 and 400MHz according to CPU-Z ... absolutely no problems at all. These are double sided memory modules.
I wanted to upgrade and bought a matched pair of 2 x 512 Geil Value PC3200 DDR RAM intending to upgrade to 1.5GB ... I thought that I should put the two 512s in the green (DIMMS 1 and 2) and the two 256s in the purple (DIMMS 3 and 4) ... all I got was 3 beeps ...3 beeps, etc ...so I put the two 512s in DIMM 1 and 3 .... no problems!!!!! ... then I emailed MSI and got a reply ..... put the two 512s in slots 1 and 3 and the two 256s in slots 2 and 4 ... works fine!! ... now I have 1.5GB memory.
One other thing - the memory now (exactly as the manual says it would!!) runs at 333 on 2 3 3 5; this is 2 clock cycles for the CAS latency (???) ... instead of 2.5 .. so although the bus speed is slower, it takes fewer clock cycles for this to happen (whatever it actually does - something to do with the Column Address Strobe - how quickly/regularly the columns in memory are strobed. ...).
I don't pretend to be an expert but 2.5 clock cycles at 400MHz is equivalent to 2.5 nanoseconds per cycle which is 6.25 nanoseconds for 2.5 clock cycles .... 2 clock cycles at 333 MHz is 3 nanoseconds per clock cycle ( at first glance slower ... but) so 2 clock cycles take 6 nanoseconds ... so this has to mean that 2 3 3 5 at 333 MHz is faster than 2.5 3 3 6 at 400 MHz doesn't it?

  • Comp wont boot with ram in any slots besides 1&3 no matter what, faulty board?

Ok i've tried pretty much everything, got latest bios, changed timings to everything but the comp just wont boot if I have any ram in slots 2&4. Actually got the comp to boot up with ram in slots 1&2 once, but tried with all 4 slots filled and didn't work, and after that slot 2 didn't work again.
Could it be a faulty board? I know it's not the ram.

Ahh, turns out you were right tiresmoke.
Even though I thought I had 4 sticks that were exactly the same..one wasn't. 3 of them are xms32004.1 0427033 - 0...the one i've always had in my comp is 5.1 0430069 - 1. Put in 2 of the 4.1 and was able to run dual channel np. That explains why one time I was able to run dual channel then switch the ram and couldn't..had no idea there was minor differences..and have no idea why I got 3 of one kind and 1 of another when I orderd the 4 sticks.
Going to try and exchange the 4 sticks for 2 1 gig sticks..how good is neweggs return policy heh? Been like nearly 2 months..

  • Z97 Gaming 5, Dual Channel RAM not working?

    Here are my specs for the moment , Windows 7, Intel Core i7 4770k, 8,00GB Single-Channel DDR3 @ 666MHz (9-9-9-24), Nvidia GeForce GTX 780 (EVGA)
As the title says dual RAM is not working, when I put all 4 RAM sticks in their slots or even just two in dual channel mode my monitor will not respond and the screen is just black, can't even go to BIOs.
The BIOs settings are at 1333 MHz and 1.5 v, I've tried raising the volt and lowering it, anyone have any ideas?
I've tried the 1-3 and 2-4 slots with two 4gb sticks and it does not work, but the 1-2 and 2-4 works fine, have also tried all the individual sticks so none of them are faulty.

Please clarify. You mean a single stick works in 2 or 4 but not 2 and 4 together? So that means DIMM slot #3 is the only one that doesn't work at all? My suspicion is a grounding or short under the mainboard by an errant standoff, or the DIMM slot has some debris in it, or the slot is just plain faulty. Other possible is a pin problem in the CPU socket.

  • Pavilion dv6-3130tx Blue Screen (BSOD) on adding RAM to second slot

    Hi there,
I own a HP Pavilion dv6-3130tx with total of 3gb of RAM, one 1GB chip and one 2 GB chip. Recently I have been getting a lot of system crashes/freezes and occasional Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) with a variety of error messages. On contacting HP care in India they said to check the RAM chips and the slot for any problem. I have identified that the second slot is one creating the problem as the system crashes if use any one of the chips on that slot while both the RAMs work fine on the other slot.
Additionaly the RAM port/slot cannot be replaced as such, and since it is out of warranty getting the motherboard replaced isn't an alternative either.
So does anyone have any idea what might be the best way out of this problem?

Did the 3GB of RAM come with the computer or did you upgrade it at some point?
What version of Windows are you using?
