I have configured by new 2011 with 2 x 24" DVI Screens. One connected via HDMI and the other connect via the display port. It works well, and I use applications on both screens all the time. What I have noticed is that after waking from sleep all open apps, regardless of which screen they were on,  re-appear on the primary screen.
    Clues ?
    Cheers.

  • An adapter for connecting a 2.5 GHz dual-core Mac Mini to a VGA CRT monitor?

This question concerns the 2.5 GHz dual-core Mac Mini from Mid 2011 (Intel Core i5-2520M) (Macmini5,2).  Is there an adapter for connecting it to a VGA CRT monitor?

    store.apple.com/us/product/MB572Z/A
Thunderbolt port is physically identical the miniDisplay port and can pass video for a monitor.

how to run the Hardware test on a Mac mini 2015 ?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
New Macs come with Apple Diagnostics instead of Apple Hardware Test, but their purpose is the same: check that your Mac's hardware is working properly. See -> https://support.apple.com/kb/PH18765?locale=en_US
To run it, you only have to hold down the D key while your Mac is starting up, and follow the steps.

  • Jagged wavy lines edge of CRT display with Dual Core Mac mini

My friend recently bought a Dual Core Intel Mac mini and when hooking it up to a 19 inch MAG monitor there are often wavy lines on the edges of the screen. They go up and down both sides, are jagged, and also are not static but moving quickly. Sometimes it seems to behave normally while other times if it doesn't show up on the boot screen it will show up after a little bit of use.
At first it seems that the more stuff I opened the worse it got, so I thought it could be the shared video RAM as he did not upgrade from the original 512 , but that should only slow the computer down anyway. Now I think rather than the RAM I think it could be related to the Apple DVI to VGA adapter, resloution/refresh rate, or just bad video hardware. I can't rule out that it just won't play nice with the majority of CRT monitors out there either. Sometimes changing the resolution/refresh rate helps and other time it doesn't. From what I heard my friend experienced wavy lines somewhat on his own monitor but I don't think it did it when using a DVI to HDMI cable to his Sony 50 LCD (and I didn't see it when hooking it up to mine either).
If anyone has any idea what could be going on I would greatly appreciate it. The reason it is so important is that my friend decided that the Mac mini was kind of an impulse buy and didn't need his iBook and another computer for his TV so he is going to sell it to my brother who is in need of a computer. So I don't want him to get into something that will give him problems right away.
    Thanks in advance,
    Robert

So is the MAG monitor your brother's monitor? That wasn't clear.
What you are seeing will most likely be limited to the MAG monitor. The MAG is experiencing some kind of noise coupling in to horizontal sync, likely from it's own power supply. You are correct that this will be related to the sync rate. Changing the vertical refresh to something higher, like 85 Hz or higher if available, might help to mask the noise. Also, power supply loading will affect how the noise manifests, so you weren't imagining when you thought that opening more applications made it worse. It didn't have anything to do with the mini but rather the different average picture level on the screen was changing the monitor's power supply loading and hence changing the beat frequency between hsync and the power supply's switching frequency.
I think it is safe to say most of what you see is bound to the monitor and not the mini. Furthermore, if you are stuck with this monitor, you can probably lessen the appearance of the noise by mucking with the refresh rate out of the mini.

  • Dual Monitor, Mac Mini

    Hi
I have looked around and most places say buy this dual head 2 go thing but i dont want to spend loads, anyway.
I have an old mac mini G4 with Raedon 9200 graphics card, and so can i get dual monitors working with my mac? I dont care how, anyway possible, i would like to know thanks.
Also im looking into getting a new intel mac mini would that support dual monitors?
I did order some bits off amazon, and now i want to get my vga TV and vga monitor going together, i bought a DVI splitter, 1 male and 2 female connectors. From them i have an adaptor on each going from dvi to vga and having vga cables going to each my TV and monitor.
Anyway even better if you can help me get it working with those cables, no matter if you cant but please let me know if there are other ways. Thanks. Any help much appreciated.

    The simple answers are:
I have an old mac mini G4 with Raedon 9200 graphics card, and so can i get dual monitors working with my mac? I dont care how, anyway possible, i would like to know thanks.
There is no native support for dual display output from the mini. It cab potentially support mirroring with a splitter, but both displays would have to be capable of the same resolution(s) in order for that to work, and even then if they are not identical the mini could be readily confused by receiving two conflicting display IDs.
An external device - namely the Matrox product - would be needed.
Also im looking into getting a new intel mac mini would that support dual monitors?
No. While it has different video controllers, the display output is the same single video DVI-I as the G4 mini. It can thus be split with the same degree of success (or otherwise) for mirroring, but without such as the Matrox unit, not spanned across displays.

  • Updating Snow Leopard Server Software on Dual Intel Mac Mini

I have a 2009 Mac Mini Dual Core 2.53 Intel with 4 gb Ram running as a server under 10.6.8 Max OSX Server.
But I have never used the server capabilities and don't reallyneed them.
The Boss, Wife, wants ITunes radio on it, but it won't work apparently unless you run 10.9.
I tried updating to 10.9 server, but it wouldn't downlaod because the downloader said it needed to run under OSX 10.9.
I am trying to download Mavericks to see if it'll install, but I'm guessing the server level security won't let it.
How can I update to OSX 10.9  Server to basically keep her system as "same" as possible...so ITunes radio will work on it for her?
Is there an easy way other than copy as much as possible to another HD, reformat the entire original Mini HD and start from scratch?
I don't know if I can install another OS on it's second internal HD and just boot up from that one..since I think the server systen may not allow multiple boot drives?
Is there an easy solution to updateing Snow Leopard Server to Mavericks?

    Help appreciated Greatly.
I downloaded Mavericks with no problem and held my breath to see if it would install OK.
    It did.
No major issues and just about everything is working OK right out of the box.
Transition from Snow Leopard Server to OSX Mavericks Single User OS went fine.
Donlt have to worry about archane "Server Language" anymore and administerring this computer will be much easier.
    Hope it's a stable build.

  • Dual Processor Mac Mini

Now that the new Mac Minis have a dual processor, will this be a good option to run FCP? My G-5 generates SO much heat I have to move it out of my home office before I start editing!
I was hoping the new Mac Mini might be my salvation.
    Any input??
    Thanks.

    G5 Dual 2 GHz PowerPC   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

But you can capture (DV and native HDV) to a USB 2.0 external drive instead (if your camera interferes with the firewire drive, or visa-versa), and if you have a dual interface external drive, once you have finished capturing, you can re-mount it over firewire and continue from there.
An iMac would be okay, full size HD, some real graphics card options (quite decent ones on the new 24"), the single FW interface becomes the only sticking point for FCP. I use a mac mini to encode and render very long jobs, because I can leave it on for months on end, quietly getting on with the job. My Powerbook G4 also has a single firewire bus, and I can manage okay with it, but I don't do anything too big.
I think you could edit DV on a dual core Mini fine, and HDV at a pinch. Motion would be very difficult, if not impossible, because of the lack of a graphics card.
You will need the latest 5.1 version of Final Cut Pro - see this page for upgrade / crossgrade information:
    http://www.apple.com/universal/crossgrade
A lot of the posters here are only interested in the latest and greatest hardware, but the basics of the job (online DV editing) have not changed in nearly a decade now. Consumer level computing has changed a great deal, Apples consumer offering has changed enormously in the last 12 months.
Having said all that though, I would still agree with the general 'mood' of the board on this one, stick with your G5, maybe re-position it to affect you less (somehow), the G5 is a better / as good as machine, and, more importantly, you already have one.

  • écran mac mini 2015

    bonjour a tous,
    merci pour vos réponses;
    cordialement

    1. You may find the specs at http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/mac_mini/specs/mac-mini-core-i7-3.0-late-2 014-specs.html useful to determine if it is the adapter giving you trouble with the display, or if it really is a limitation of the Mac's hardware.
    2. Check with the display manufacturer if they have experience connecting to the Mac Mini and if there are certain settings that work better.   Sometimes a setting in between 1080p and 4k exists that offers better frequency support.
    3. SwitchResX and DisplayConfigX are software that offer better fine tuning of resolution than is built-in to the Mac:

  • Dual disk Mac mini server - disk issue Disk Utility can't repair

    ML Server.
There are two disks: Server OS HD and Server Mac HD. The Server OS HD only contains the OS and the Apple software update catalog. The Users folder is on the Server Mac HD. When the server is started / running, I go to the Disk utility > verify the Server Mac HD and I am told the Journal needs to be replayed but the volume is read only (it can't be!) and some other errors with regards to headers and bitmaps. DU then stops verifying the disk. I start the Mac mini / Server into recovery mode, try to verify the Server Mac HD. There are no problems - the "disk appears to be okay". I did this several times to same effect! How the heck do I repair the disk?

I see what you mean about live verification.
But didn't realize that the common sensical approach of separating the OS data from non-OS (user) data was an unusual config. Figured, it couldn't have any downside to it or atleast the least drawbacks.... had considered striping etc. but coulnd't see THAT much of a benefit in striping given my particular use / scenario. I have the system backed up to an external Time Machine drive (and will be doing an offsite / online backup of mostly user folders in the near future).
It would be interesting to see the results of fsck check though, like John said.
Anyway this whole thing was initiated because one of the users was getting an error of iTunes library being on a read only volume or on a locked volume. After repairing the Mac HD through Disk Utility in recovery mode (evethough no errors were found, I simply repaired it), that issue seemed to have resolved. So eventhough DU reported no errors, there must have been some small error - atleast it seems that way!
Thanks to both for the help!

I just got a present for fathers day mac mini core 2 duo. System profiler says two cores, One processor. Can I install one more processor? Can someone clear that for me.

Duel core means you have 1 processor installed which has 2 processing cores. Its basically 2 processors in one.

Is my TV just not compatible with bootcamp???

Well I guess I'll answer this myself. I paid a Mac tech. to come out and figure out what's going on. The mini displayport doesn't really work on the windows side... I tried mini DVI to vga still nothing... The end result? I just bought a mini displayport/digi audio to HDMI and hopefully apple with offer a fix... At least I'll get 1080p on the Mac side...

  • Can i have multiple monitor with my mac mini ?

Can i have multiple monitor with my mac mini like i do with my PC ?  2 differents screens.. not mirror.

There's lots of Mac Mini models since 2006 or so. What do you have?
Most support two monitors but how you do it is different depending on model.
    Put this phrase into Google
            dual monitors, mac mini
and you'll come up with the solution needed based on which MM you have.

  • Widescreen TV resolution (unsupported?) intel mac mini

I'm having problems setting the mac mini up to my tv, i'm in the uk so no HD yet but the resolutions the mac mini with dvi-component adapter is displaying only have 4x3 aspect ratios, so when watching widesreen tv or movies it double letterboxes them. Is there any way i can force the mac mini to display at 1024x576 rather than just giving me the options of 720x576, 800x600 and 1024 x 768. I remember on older mac with older monitors there was abutton in teh system prefs which allowed you to display resolutions that might not be supported is there any way around this?
It doesn't appear to be the tv as when hooked up to a powerbook the display options are far greater and include 16x9 meaning tv and movies are displayed full screen.
On the plus side it is seriously fast, with handbrake in universal binary it runs 3-4 times faster than my powerbook, 15fps on the 1.67ghz pbook and 60fps on the mac mini, which compares well to 37fps average on a mates dual 1.8ghz G5 nice.

I have the same sort of problem with a brand new Dual Core Mac Mini and a Pioneer Elite PRO-710HD. The TV is quite capable of handling 1080i input via the VGA/RGB jack, but the Mini won't give me 1920x1080 as a resolution option. I've currently got it set to 640x480, which displays fine, but I really want the higher resolution to work.
If anyone can point me to a guide to hacking the display settings tables that Display Preferences uses to figure out what a particular display is capable of, that would be great. I tried the restart with cmd-opt-a-v and that didn't change the available options (which are many, btw, but none with 1080 as a vertical resolution option, 1050 and 1200 being the closest and they don't work).
    Cheers,
    -Sam
