Dual Screen, missing windows ?

Hi there
I've got a second screen setup with my iMac and all is working well until the last OSX update. The issue mainly exists with both Thunderbird and Firefox (latest versions of each).
For example if Thunderbird is open and located on my secondary monitor - when I hit "write" to compose a new email the modal window doesn't appear. If I check Thunderbird > Window I can see I have a new mail message window yet can't get to it to compose a mail.
If I move Thunderbird to my iMac screen and do the same thing I see the new empty mail ready for me.
This function has worked ok in the past so I'm not sure whats changed ?
It's possible these windows could be minimised somewhere yet I can't find out how to resize/access them ??
Any suggestions ?
Thanks,

I sounds like Windows is not correctly reading the screen's capabilities. There should be something like a Control Panel to reset the screen resolution to the screen's best native resolution.
With CRT's there was a huge expanse of phosphor on the inside of the tube, and you could fudge the resolution quite a bit. With LCD, you have one "best" resolution, and if you don't hit it perfectly, you get fuzziness or black borders.

I recently installed Windows 7 in bootcamp and I would like to use dual screens with my Mac Mini. Windows only recognies one of my monitors (the Mini-Display Port) and cannot find the Mini-DVI monitor. Am I missing a driver or something (I have installed the Windows Drivers off of the OS X CD Already)

  • How do I play a video in full-screen mode on one screen of a dual-screen Windows 7 system without blanking out the other screen?

How do I play a video in full-screen mode on one screen of a dual-screen Windows 7 system without blanking out the other screen?  Not losing the other screen would be useful as I would like to, for example, monitor my emails whilst watching a video or to work on a project whilst watching an instructional video.
Note : Resizing a window to fill the screen is not acceptable as it still leaves unsightly borders.

  • MSI gtx 570 twin frozr III - Dual Screen Windowed mode issues

Ok, so... I was running a solo monitor 1440x900 resolution, i recently purchased a brand new asus 24 inch 1900x1080 monitor. Basically what is happening is when i play WoW or Battlefield 3 in windowed mode on the 1080p monitor the colors are not perfect. When i go full-screen on the new monitor no issues, but that is not what i want to have to live with. When i say the colors are not perfect what i mean is, for example when i look @ the sky instead of being a smooth transition or blend from one shade of the sky to the next it is bars or stripes of each shade as if i am looking at the sky in 8 bit color instead of 32 bit color. Another thing to note is that when i login to windows 7 the blue screen where i input the password has the same effect. The 1440x900 monitor is running everything just fine. the only issue is with the 1080p monitor.
I am using DVI cabling for both, and have swapped them around to see if that was the issue, and sadly it is not. I am running the updated gpu driver, which i uninstalled and re-downloaded and installed again tonight.
When i use the HDMI cable,  that fixes the issue but i need the HDMI for my 42 inch tv.
Also in windows, just to cover my bases with this post, i have the native resolutions properly configured, as well as in the game for the given monitor it is being played on.
Anyone know of a fix for this?
    i7 2600k
    asus PBZ68-v Pro/Gen3
    Msi gtx 570
    Samsung syncmaster 953bw (1440x900)
    Asus VS248 (1900x1080)
I am more than happy to re-explain anything that may not be as descriptive or clear to you just let me know!
    EDIT!
When i run the 24 inch 1080p new monitor as my only monitor on the system, everything runs perfectly...
    Edit #2
Ok so i have pin pointed a possible cause
This msi gtx 570 struggles with operating multiple displays with different resolutions, while dual screening with my 1080p television and the 1080p display, everything runs as expected. Having to also render a 1440x900 display is probably the reason i am having the graphic issues. Is there any type of utility, setting, or other fix to this type issue? also this gpu is certainly less than 2 weeks since i purchased i could get a different card to remedy this... any suggestion? if you suggest a different card can you say so with certainty that it will work properly under the condition in which 2 resolutions will be required?

Ok, the problem is fixed and Svet i skipped a step or two. I installed the new driver with the clean install to save time for an initial attempt. What is interesting is that with the Geforce driver, only one 1920x1080 resolution was available
The msi driver gave me 2 options, 1920x1080 and 1920x1080 (native). The latter resolution fixed the issue for whatever reason.
The solution to this problem is so easy, when i purchased battlefield 3 it prompted me to download the geforce.com driver and i did not think anything of it at the time, lesson learned.

  • Remembering windows positions when switching from/to dual screen display

    Hello,
Most of the time, a second LCD screen is plugged in my Macbook and configured as the main display. When I arrange the windows, I keep iTunes or my mail application maximized on the macbook screen and use the bigger external screen for all other windows.
If I unplug the external display, all the windows are of course moved to the laptop display. When I plug again the external screen, all the windows are moved to the external display. But I would like the iTunes and mail application to remain on the laptop screen.
Is there any utility to remember the windows positions and arrange them automatically when I switch from/to single/dual-screen display?
    Regards,
    Raph

Would DisplayWatcher do what you want? I came across this a couple of weeks ago but haven't had the chance to try it out yet.

  • Microsoft Word consistently becomes active window when clicking between dual screens and programs

    13" MBP
    2.3 ghz i5
    8GB Ram
    Running 10.9.2
    Microsoft Word 2011
Dual screens with amazon Mini Display to VGA adapter
When I am running word between an external monitor and my MBP, Microsoft word always interrupts any clicks between programs and between screens to become the active window. This is especially annoying when I am trying to navigate between MacMail and Chrome, or any other programs.
The problem doesn't exist when I click between programs on the MBP, but only when I select windows between the two screens. Or programs on the external monitor.
Word is up to date, as is my MBP.
Please don't punt me to Microsoft, they're the worst!
    Thanks!

There is a workaround for this problem, which was posted by Highestwater on the Microsoft Community thread for this bug and worked for me as well:
    Go to
System Preferences > Mission Control >
and UN-check the box labeled "Displays have separate Spaces" (see image below)
The original poster on this thread may already be aware of this workaround, because he/she mentioned that the "separate Spaces" option is checked. But if you can live without the extra Mavericks dual display features (like going full screen in 1 display only, switching spaces independently on each display, and having a menu bar on each display), then uncheck this option and the "stealing focus" bug seems to disappear. For me the bug is so annoying that it's worth it to lose the extra features. Just yesterday I closed a Word document I was working on by mistake because I clicked on a Finder window on my other display and immediately pressed command-w to close it, without realizing that the focus had switched to my word document which closed instead. It was saved, but this sort of stuff interrupted my work enough to be both an annoyance and a time drain.

  • IMac - Dual Screen Monitors. Windows issue

    Hi,
I have an imac 27inc and a 27inc led samsung side by side.
I have connected the samsung to my imac and the dual screen works perfectly in the Mac operating system.
    However.
When booting up in windows (using bootcamp) the samsung has black borders around the screen and is not displaying a full image ?
Is there a fix for this ?
I have connected the imac and the samsung through HDMI.
    Cheers,

  • Is it possible to have dual screens for two Pages documents or APPs? In a Windows system you use control left/right

When trying to work on multiple documents or apps, I like to have a dual screen where by i can see two things at once. This worked when I used  a Window's system by pressing Control left/right and i could use both at the same time.
Is this posible to do using a Mac Air?

both VMWare Fusion & Parallels Desktop for Mac can use a bootcamp Windows installation as VM exactly like you want.

  • New window opens in main monitor when using dual screen

I am using dual screens and my "main screen" is on the left. Ever since Firefox updated to 32.0.1 on Monday I've been having this issue. Before the update, I would have my main Firefox window opened on the left and, when I click on a link to open a new window, it would open on the right screen. Now, it will only open on the left screen, where the other window is. If I drag the original window to the right monitor and open a link, the new window will open on the right monitor. But once I drag the original window back to the left, new links will open in the left again.
Before if I had this problem, I would simply drag the new window to the right monitor, then back to the left and close it. Then click the link again and it would open in the right. Kind of a work around I guess. But since the update, even this will not work. Any suggestions? Or is this a new function of the updated version? Is there a way for me to go back to the previous version? Any help is appreciated!

    Hi hollytotheg,
I understand that links opening in new windows are opening in the active screen, not on the right, second monitor.
This may be helpful: [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/monitor-master/] the search recommends this.
However I would also recommend suggesting an enhancement in input about dual monitor new window restriction.

I would like to know if there a way to use window (via bootcamp) and use a dual screen with the use of thunderbolt?

There are very specific requirements for using an iMac as an external display.
From Target Display Mode: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) - Apple Support
What are the requirements for TDM?
A Mac notebook or desktop with a Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt connection
A Thunderbolt or Mini DisplayPort cable
A supported iMac with OS X 10.6.1 or later. The table below shows iMac computers that support TDM, the required cables, and the port of the computer to which you are connecting the iMac.
    iMac Model
    Cable Supported
    Port on Source Computer
    iMac (27-inch Late 2009)
    Mini DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort
    Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt
    iMac (27-inch Mid 2010)
    Mini DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort
    Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt
    iMac (Mid 2011)
    Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt
    Thunderbolt
    iMac (Mid 2012 and later)

Note that the iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014) does not support Target Display Mode.

  • BLACK SCREEN stating "windows could not start because the following is miss

I installed Bootcamp update 2.1 and then XP SP3.
Now when I start up my Mac I am getting a BLACK SCREEN stating "windows could not start because the following is missing or corrupt: <windows root>\system 32-hal.dll Please re-installl a copy of hte above file"
I tried to use the option key and insert the Windows CD but it won't start up.
Also, when I start up I must use the option key and select the Mac OS and it will start up and everything is fine there. Advice appreciated.

Did you ever solve this? I had updated to BC 2.1 (After updating Apple Software Update al on the Windows side) I waited & just tonight tried to install SP-3. It appeared to install & When I was prompted to restart--I also got the black screen. Mine said:
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:\Windows\inf\biosinfo.inf
You can attempt to repair the file by starting Windows setup using the original setup CD-ROM. Select ‘r’ at the 1st screen to repair.
I just force powered off & booted into Mac.
I think I need to restart my Mac into Windows (using the Option key ) WHILE THE WINDOWS XP CD is in the optical Drive. Then maybe I’ll get a choice to select ‘r’ to repair at the 1st screen?
You may need to do essentially the same thing. I do not know if this problem is a boot camp problem of just a Windows problem.
    Sure is annoying,
    Good luck!

  • Windows 10 dual screen remoting.

You could try opening the remote desktop tool by using the following command in a run box mstsc /span
I haven't tried on W10 but works fine on other platforms.

    Hi,
Does anyone know if Windows 10 pro allows dual screen remoting?
Or do i need Enterprise? Like i needed Ultimate or Enterprise with Windows 7?

  • Dual Screen - Windows 2008

Looking to see if anyone has had any success with getting dual screens working to a Windows 2008 TS environment. Basically the TS environment is 2 x Windows 2008 Standard servers working together and the users connect from old WYSE terminals.
What I want to be able to do is use dual monitors. It looks like it doesnt work all that well but want to get a definitive answer that true dual screen is not possible.
If anyone has any experience with this or any advise it would be great.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Your servers need to be at least Server 2008 R2 or higher in order to have true multi-monitor support, and the client devices need to support RDP 7.0 or higher.  If your devices support it you may be able to use span mode with older versions, which
essentially gives you one big screen stretched across both monitors.
