Dual screen, mouse pointer hidden?

When I use my eeepc together with an external screen, I can configure them nicely using the gnome display preferences. However, when I want to use both screens together, It can happen that the mouse gets lost out of both screens!
The problem seems to be the different sizes of the screens (800x480 and 1440x900), the screens look like this:
           |                           |
   X      |                           |
           |                           |
-------                            |
|         |                           |
|         |                           |
Now this works well, if I'm within the two screens. Also, I can not move windows outside of the screens. But when I'm on the left (small) screen with the menu on top, and I want to click one of the menus and go to the top with my mouse, the mouse just disappears and does not stop at the bottom of the screen. That means, I can move my mouse in the area where the 'X' is, because when I go right, the mouse appears on this height on the larger screen.
Do you understand the problem? This is very annoying.
Does anyone know if one can turn this off? Or should I file a bug report? On Xorg? Gnome? Xrandr?
Cheers
Jan,

I am having the same problem with a slightly different setup.  My monitors are configured as follows:
   ______X_____|            |
  |                     |            |
  |                     |            |
  |____________|            |
             X         |_______|
My cursor can move into both of the "X" areas.
I use xrandr to set the position of the left screen as 0x400.  I am running XMonad as my window manager and using nouveau graphics drivers.
I also thought about filing a bug report, but I'm not sure which part of the graphics stack is responsible for constraining the cursor to the visible screen.  Can anyone shed some light on this?

  • Update 10.6.8 - dual screens - mouse problem

I run a Mac Pro with 2 screens. I can just move my mouse (and windows) from one screen to another.
I just did the update and now I can not move my mouse anymore from screen 1 to the other screen. So I can not get to the 2nd screen anymore with my mouse.
It must be associated with the update, before the update I never had this problem.
Does anyone have the same issue and a clue on what to do?
    Thanks a lot,
    Ed

With Logitech Mouse and Keyboard Y-RAK73 (S 530-Mac) on a Apple MAC PRO (2009) (2 screens)
With or without  LCC 3.3.0, ( reboot after uninstall)
Batteries are OK, location of USB Stick OK.
Same eratic when moving windws of Finder, objects etc ... specially in the vertical direction (downward for ex.)
specialy when dragging from one screen to the other, but ALSO just same (primary) screen.
=> The faster the move, the more eratic.
Also passed OSX kernel in 64 bits mode. This may be the trouble ?
Drag-Drop could be VERY DANGEROUS specially when manipulating folders, ...
The (non intended) drop may occure at any time !!!!
This is a serious regression since 10.8.6 / 64 Kernel

  • Mouse pointer disappears when screen sharing

When I use Back To My Mac from work to screen share my home Mac the pointer disappears. When I first connect and put the screen sharing window into full screen mode (into a separate space) everything is fine. I can then switch back to my current Macs screen and the mouse pointer is still working. But when I switch back to the screen sharing space the pointer is gone.

    yes! i have this problem.
the difference is that it only happens when I'm using my thunderbolt display.
i have an mb air and a mbp retina. there is no issue until i'm connected to it - then i get this freeze issue during screen share and my hidden dock won't appear.
i've had 2 calls with applecare to date. will update you after my next call
    have you had any luck?

  • Mouse pointer jumps to corner of secondary screen

We just upgraded to a new server running the latest Solaris with Sun VDI 3.1 which includes Sun Ray Server Software 4.2. I have multihead enabled and have 3 stations with dual-monitors/Sun Rays. On the second monitor, especially when dragging or scrolling, the mouse pointer jumps to the top-left of the screen. All three of us are experiencing this. Two have xinerama extension enabled, one does not have it enabled and says he's seeing the same behavior with the mouse. We have mix of Sun Ray 1G's and 2's, and one I'm using is a 170. I did not experience this with our old server running SRSS 3.1. Anything I can do to fix this problem? I appreciate any help.

Do you know when the next patch is due?Patch schedules are highly unpredictable. This patch is now in what's supposed to be its final QA cycle but if QA finds problems, or if a serious new issue is reported (especially if it's a security issue) then the whole thing might have to be rebuilt and possibly resynchronized with other patches in progress, and then retested on all supported platforms (which means reassigning QA resources that had been committed to other efforts). The best case for this patch that has reached this stage of the process might be two or three weeks. The worst case could be a month or two.
Alternatively, is there a hotfix available as many of our users are having difficulty at the moment. If you have a support contract then you can open and escalate a support call against the bug. After the escalation has been filed you can request an "IDR" ("Interim/Diagnostic Relief"), which is essentially an early build of the patch that contains the intended fix for that bug. The IDR will not have been tested by QA so there's some risk involved in taking it. This is one reason why we don't routinely publish IDRs. You have to decide whether that risk is outweighed by the pain the bug is causing.

  • C655D 5210 tosiba black screen with mouse pointer

I have only had this computer for 8 months. One day I turned it on, and windows kept restarting. After a few trouble shooting steps off the internet, I decided to reinstall windows 7 and lose my data and start all over. The first time it could not repair the computer and asked me to send the information to microsoft. Cannot boot in safe mode, I can get to the setup utility screen. This is a new Windows 7 cd. After several tries, it installed and said it had to restart, (this may happen several times) it only restarted once, then a black screen with a cursor. When I try to boot from the cd, the windows logo apppears, then a black screen with mouse pointer again. Toshiba is no help at all. This is my third Toshiba laptop. The first one did the same thing. But it was out of warranty, the amount they wanted to charge us, i just got another one. My mom's Toshiba just died with no real reason, the old one is in the garbage, and this one is only 8 months old. Toshiba would like us to send the computer in, pay for shipping, wait for 3 weeks, pay to ship it back to us, with a promise that it may not work.
    Please help
here is the error message when trying to install windows 7

Hi, last try is to install os manually,  a clean os Install (way to go here)

  • Blank black screen with just mouse pointer after logging in windows 8.1

First of all On starting the system, it was taking much longer time than usual.. Then after logging in it showed only a blank black screen with white mouse pointer.. had to force shut down (shut down also took longer time).. on starting went to safe mode and ran extensive system check.. HARD DRIVE SMART CHECK PASSED but HARD DRIVE SHORT DST CHECK FAILED...I have the recovery discs and the notebook is under warranty..

    Hi
If your hard drive is failing on short DST test then you will need to contact HP in your local region and arrange with HP a repair ( Hard drive replacement )  .  You say your machine is still in Warranty then the cost of shipping and repair will be covered by HP .

  • Pinkish glow around mouse pointer on external screen.

Since the last update (10.9.1) my mid-2012 macbook air started showing a very peculiar behaviour.
Only when connected to an external monitor and waking up from sleep, the mouse pointer on the external monitor comes with a pinkish glow. Very annoying.
    Details:
    - it only appears within the external monitor, if the pointer is moved into the macbook screen the defect disappear.
    - to make it go away, it is enough to unplug and re-plug the external monitor
    - it seems that the shadow and the aliasing around the mouse pointer receives the wrong hue on the ext monitor, but mine is only a guess.
    - connection thunderbolt (original apple adapter to dvi)
    - monitor iiyama prolite B2409HDS
    - it started with the update to 10.9.1. NEVER had a problem before that (since 10.8)
any thoughts? Is there anybody out there with the same issue?

Same Issue here. See picture below:
    Mac details:
Processor  2 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory  8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    Graphics  Intel Iris Pro
    Software  OS X 10.9.3 (13D65)
HDMI Cable connected to LG LCD TV
I'm not sure but it could be that I have started experiencing this glow since a Mavericks update ( I didn't have this issue the first months after upgrading to Mavericks).....
Did anyone already submit a bug report over here : https://bugreport.apple.com  ????

  • Mouse pointer jumps to corners of screen

I am using a Mighty Mouse (wired) and have had problems with my mouse pointer jumping to the four corners of the screen. I then have to move the mouse around and find what corner it is in, and bring it back to where it was. It happens very often, and is very distracting.
I have had the same problem with a Microsoft wireless mouse and a previous Mighty Mouse.
Any ideas as to how the stop the jumping would be greatly appreciated.
    Snoopyknitter

The suggestion to follow the cord was evidently the correct one. I had my Mighty Mouse plugged into the usb port on the back of my Mac keyboard. When I realized this (I have had it set up this way since I got my G5) I plugged it into one of the usb ports on the back of the monitor. In several hours I haven't seen the pointer jump once.
I will leave it set up this way and watch, but I think this may have been the solution. To think it was such an easy solution and I have been putting up with this for several years!
    Thanks Thomas Bryant.

  • Keyboard/mouse focus mixup on dual screens

I've been using a dual screen i3wm setup for a few years now, with the dual screen configuration being done by xrandr in a script in .bash_profile:
    xrandr --output HDMI1 --auto --right-of HDMI2
    sleep 4;
    xrandr --output HDMI2 --auto --left-of HDMI1
Recently I've started seeing a very weird issue: the keyboard will end up focused on one workspace, while the mouse will end up focused on another. To get them back in sync I have to mess around with the keybindings for moving workspaces (whereas before I've mostly used the mouse) or even had to reset i3wm entirely. I assumed this was a problem with i3wm so I switched to xfce, but had a similar problem - occasionally the focus would lock on a single application (e.g. Firefox) and I wouldn't be able to do anything else until I reset xfce.
    Has anyone else experienced this?

I too experience this issue and find it annoying. It reduces the utility of the reports functionality. I would like to be able to open a report or two to monitor some activity with the auto refresh, while continuting to code or work through other issues in either sql or pl/sql pane. Instead the focus keeps getting sucked back to a visible report panel.

  • Mouse pointer jumps around screen

My Emac mouse pointer jumps aroung the screen. I have tried restarting and a permissions repair. I'm still having the problem. Any ideas?
    Emac   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Is this the original Apple mouse? Do you have any third-party mouse drivers installed? (Look in System Preferences under "Other"). Presumablly you've tried adjusting the mouse sensitivity in System Preferences; have you also checked if the mouse if jumpy in other user accounts? If you can, try a different USB mouse on the eMac to ccheck it's not the hardware.
You can test if the mousing surface is at fault by using a plain sheet of heavyweight bond paper as a mouse pad. If that resolves the issue, try the tip first suggested in the eMac Discussions by Ron Jackle: use a plain floor tile as a mouse pad. You want one that's non-glossy, fairly plain, and not too refelctive. I've got such tiles in use on several computers (Macs, PCs, and Unix), using a light tan 8x10 tile from Home Depot, label 8x10-5202, SKU 3057645425, which retails for about US$1 (I recall the last one beint 89 cents plus tax) when bought one at a time.
p.s. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!

  • Mouse pointer jumping around the screen

My mouse pointer has just started jumping around the screen. It vibrates and slowly moves down the screen even if I am not touching it. I have cleaned the sensor but that has not helped. I unplugged it and the pointer still jumped around.
Any ideas what might be causing this as I have not seen quite this problem on other discussions.

    HI,
That's interesting... restart your iMac. See if that makes a difference.
Also, do you have anything nearby that might cause interference, like a cell phone or graphics tablet?
May sound crazy, but dust and lint build up on a mouse pad can cause erratic cursor behavior.
You could try deleting this file.
    com.apple.driver.AppleHIDMouse.plist
/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. Drag that file to the Trash, empty the Trash and restart your iMac.

  • Share Screen mouse not pointing correctly

I have a MacBook Pro (c. 2007; OSX 10.8.3) connected via DVI port to an HD TV. The system works perfectly when I am using a Bluetooth mouse or an iPhone remote control app.
However, when I Share Screen with another computer, the mouse pointer does not display in the correct position. For instance, when the TV is on and showing the connected computer's Desktop, I can use Share Screen on another computer to control the connected computer's mouse -- but the mouse is in a different location on the TV from the Share Screen computer. I have to use my unconnected computer's touchpad while watching what's happening on the TV.
Basically, the mouse shows up on the TV in the correct position, but it shows up several inches to the left when viewed using Share Screen.
I have turned Overscan on and off, with no change. And messing with the Display options doesn't seem to fix the issue either.
    Any ideas out there?
    Thank you.

Thanks, I tried but that's not the issue.
I turned off Bluetooth on both the TV computer and the unconnected computer, but I'm still seeing the curser on the Share Screen computer several inches to the left of its true position.
    Any other ideas?
