Dual screen question

bit of a story - I'm in the USA trying to give IT support to my dear old mum in the UK - forgive me if I'm missing something
She has just bought herself a new screen to go with her Macbook so she can see all her photos in their full glory, but if she pulls iphoto on to her new screen the adjust button (when she clicks Edit) isn't there - if she pulls it back on to the laptop it comes back?
I've done the delete plist bit but it still happens
Any ideas??

Sorted - It was a screen resolution issue - the new larger screen was set too low - hence the 'buttons disappearing!'

  • Problem with dual screen (24" imac 2006 ver)

    hi
    i've got a 24" intel imac (2006 ver) and i've connected it using apple's mini-dvi => vga adapter to my 2nd 22" lcd monitor, a samsung 2232GW, which is set to 1680 x 1050.
however, the samsung lcd displays (when i'm using as dual screen) is quite blur and double imaged. quality is readable but very irritating. i'm also using the same monitor for my ps3 (uses the DVI side) and have no problem with any visual aspect. I've tried playing around with the settings like resolution and calibration and tuning but didn't help at all.
anyone might have any ideas and enlighten me on this issue?
    thanks

Did you get any resolution to your question? I have the Samsung monitor almost like yours, and I posted two seconds ago. I think I have a similar problem. I had been using my Samsung with my PC, and just switched to Mac. I loved my Samsung, but now ,for the first time using as a second. Hooked up to mini dvi to dvi, and reported a glow, or tinge coming around any window that I may place on the Samsung. Also, when Ilook at the background around the window I can see that the resolution is not perfect and is breaking up a little. Did you try VGA? and did it help? Curious to know

  • Where is the dual screen mode in Dreamweaver Cloud?

There was a dual screen (NOT SPLIT SCREEN) mode available in Dreamweaver CS6.  What happened to it in the cloud version?
    Thanks,

No, I was talking about the design and code on separate monitors but I received the correct information after my question was moved to another forum.

  • Dual Screen Display

Is it possible to get automatically displayed a learning
video (made with Adobe Captivate) on the the extended screen every
time you start the video file in a dual screen environment?
Actually the video has to be dragged manually from the primary
screen to the extended (secondary) screen. Thanks in advance for a
    good solution of this problem.

This is not really a Captivate problem. But the answer is,
the application will start in the Windows environment in which it
was last successfully shut down, provided that environment still
    exists.
I suppose it might be possible to write a batch file that
somehow specifies the check for a dual setup and the startup
ordered to take place at a secific point within that setup ... then
start the application from the batch file. But I really wouldn't
have a clue how to do that. You might have better success asking
that question of a Microsoft Windows guru ... (?)

P.S. Welcome to the user group for Captivate ... I am glad
you posted the question, and though I don't see a solution within
Captivate, perhaps someone else has a better solution (?).

I would like to know if there a way to use window (via bootcamp) and use a dual screen with the use of thunderbolt?

There are very specific requirements for using an iMac as an external display.
From Target Display Mode: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) - Apple Support
What are the requirements for TDM?
A Mac notebook or desktop with a Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt connection
A Thunderbolt or Mini DisplayPort cable
A supported iMac with OS X 10.6.1 or later. The table below shows iMac computers that support TDM, the required cables, and the port of the computer to which you are connecting the iMac.
    iMac Model
    Cable Supported
    Port on Source Computer
    iMac (27-inch Late 2009)
    Mini DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort
    Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt
    iMac (27-inch Mid 2010)
    Mini DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort
    Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt
    iMac (Mid 2011)
    Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt

  • TooltipText used with dual screen problem

    Hi,
In my application I use a dual screen, so JComponent may be either on one screen or the other.
My problem is when the mouse rolls over a JComponent on the right screen, the Tooltiptext associated is displayed onto the left screen.
Any idea if I could display it automatically on the good screen or if I have to implement myself the display ?
    Thx for advance

    Hi all
I've been trying to get compiz to work with dual screen on my fully updated Arch Linux laptop for a while now. It has an Intel card and I usually set up dual screen by using xrandr. • Dual-screen support in FF 12 broken (Mac OS X Snow Leopard)

I have a dual screen setup (2 displays), in FF < 12 my Firefox opened by default on my right display. I have my left display set up as primary display.
With the update to FF 12, Firefox always opens on my primary display albeit all the way to the right of the screen.
I have to drag my window now to my other screen after every time I close (Command-Q) Firefox.
PS. The same happens with Thunderbird 12

there is a bug, see: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/926289
    thank you

  • More Dual Screen bugs

... just need to know if this is an ongoing thing to live with, or is there any chance it will be 'fixed' to work as it does in 2.7.
    Here's the problem.
Previously, with a dual screen setup, one could select 6 (some number) of the images on (say) the lefthand screen, and have them come up larger in Survey mode on the right hand screen. From there, I could accept, reject, flag, change rating on the right hand screen. To affect ALL the selected images, I could make the change in the LEFT hand (main) screen. To affect only ONE of them, I could click on the star rating or accept/reject flag on the RIGHT hand screen.
Now, it seems there is no differentiation between the screens.
IN addition to there being no rating on the right hand screen, if say 6 images are selected, and one wishes to change the reject flag to accept, doing that on EITHER screen results in ALL of them changing. Instead of being able to accept only ONE image, I have to LOOK at them ONE AT A TIME, in any mode.
    Unacceptable!!!
THis slows work down to a CRAWL. My only question at this time is this: Is this on ANYONE's list to be fixed? or do I tell my students to stay away from Lightroom altogether?
I have spent two years developing this system, directly from the choices offered in LR2 and following.
DOing without it now is not an option.
Do I start over with a completely different program and stay away from LR altogether? or is there a good chance this will be remedied SOON?
    thanks

thanks for the suggestion, but this process is SO central to the way I work I have tried nearly every combination of arrangements possible.
This one did not work either.
    And indeed, why would it?
As much as it being the second screen, it's also the SURVEY mode that fails to take into accnt the settings needed.
I appreciate ANY suggestions, however. What i'd REALLY like is just to go back to LR2.7!!@ lol.

  • KVM Between Mac Mini and Dual Screen PC????

    Hello All,
I was wondering if one of  you has the answer this.....
For work I am now working remotely from home. I have a ThinkPad W520 with Dock and two 19" ViewSonic monitors both with DVI cables. Since space in my place is an issue, I want to share my sons desk wich has a Mac Mini with an HDMI to DVI cable to a 19" Monitor.
My question is......is there a KVM switch out there that will allow for my setup plus keyboard and mouse to be used with the Mini? Then he can run dual screens on the Mini when I am not working.
Thanks for the help with this one!
    Alex

I am not aware of any KVM which can share two screens. The best you are likely to be able to do is put one of the screens with the keyboard and mouse on a KVM and share those.

I work on dual screens on a new mac pro but when I do the 4 finger swipe it moves both screens, is there a way to move just the screen that is active?

Multiple desktops and dual screens really aren't meant to work together. Apple came up with this multiple desltops feature and never really thought about users that use a dual monitor setup. So use either multiple desktops OR dual monitors but not both. Also don't try to use any App in Full Screen Mode as that doesn't work with dual screen setups either.

  • What options do I have if I want to set up a dual screen?

I have a Thinkpad T400 with a ATI Radeon HD3470 card. I am running the latest Arch x86_64 with Fluxbox and the 9.4 Catalyst drivers.
What is the easiest solution to set up a dual screen? Is there a way to do this without editing xorg.conf? Not that editing xorg.conf really is a big problem, but I will be moving around a bit and finding the correct settings for each screen would take some work. And I would like to see how far the dual screen development has come on GNU/Linux.
The way I see it the best way would be to have two screens with separate resolutions. Since LCD screens do not handle resolutions other then the native very well. So just stretching the screen makes the slave screen run the same height as the parent screen. Or am I wrong? It is not a problem running stretched if the screens run at the native resolution.
So, xrandr just gives me stretching. And the need of editing xorg.conf.
What about Twinview(just for nVidia) and Xinerama?
    Is there other solutions?
    SOLUTIONS:
There is arandr and lxrandr, both frontends to xrandr. Requires minimal xorg.conf editing. Only add a virtual line in the screen section. The virtual size does not have to be accurate, it only have to be bigger then the screens together. In my case, I have a 1440x900 primary screen and at most a 1280x1024 secondary screen. So my virtual size would be minimum 2720x1024. This is with the screens side by side. If the screens is one above the other it would be 1440x1924.
The exact size of the monitor is handled by xrandr(arandr or lxrandr). So, there will be no dead zone in the width(side by side solution), if the real height is different on the screen there will be a dead zone in height.
Using arandr or lxrandr means that you manually have to set this up each time the computer is restarted. To automate this, you can use xrandr. First do a
    # xrandr
    Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 2464 x 900, maximum 2720 x 1024
    LCD connected 1440x900+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 304mm x 190mm

DFP1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
    CRT1 connected 1024x768+1440+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 304mm x 228mm
    1024x768 60.0*+ 75.0 70.1 60.0*
    800x600 72.2 75.0 70.0 60.3 56.2

    320x200 75.5 60.1
to find out where the screens are connected. Mine are LCD and CRT1. Then test with
    # xrandr --output CRT1 --right-of LCD
to see if you get a stretched desktop. If this works, just add the last line to your .xinitrc
    This solution gives you stretching.
