Dual Screen Setup Screws Up Default Firefox Window Size

Unfortunately it's impossible to reply to this thread: [https://support.mozilla.com/tiki-view_forum_thread.php?comments_parentId=365472&forumId=1]
although the problem described there isn't solved at all.
Quote from the OP:
''"Firefox is only checking the resolution of the primary monitor when it is opened or when a new window is opened. This is not an issue if both monitors are the same resolution or if the primary monitor is set to a higher resolution than the secondary monitor. But, as in my case, if the primary monitor is set to a lower resolution than the secondary monitor, Firefox will resize any new window that is larger than the resolution of the primary monitor down to size of the primary monitor."''
Personally, I have been using MSIE 6.0 until it became unusable since any major site stopped supporting it. Now, instead of upgrading to 7.x or 8.x, I chose to install Firefox ... and the first thing that this "state of the art browser" is giving to me as a welcome present is the insight, that it is even too dumb to remember its actual default window size!
Although stored correctly in ''localstore.rdf'' (height="1170") this friggin bastard resizes to 994px height on every startup and refuses to accept the fact that the screen it opens on has a height of 1200px. Something the good old MSIE didn't have any problems with to recognize!
Conclusion of > 1 hour online research: no solution available.
Well done, Mozilla, brilliant job :\

The only solution (well, it's not really a solution, it's a miserable workaround) was to exchange the assingment of the primary and the scondary display, including all the negative side effects you can imagine.
Hopefully Firefox will gain a higher grade of intelligence one day.

  • ITunes startup reinitializes dual screen setup

    Dear all,
as a dual screen setup, I have a MacbookPro7,1 (late 2010 Core2Duo 2,4GHz 13" model, OSX 10.6.6) attached to a NEC MultiSync LCD2690WUXi via DVI-I, using the digital signal flow. I am not using display mirroring. The resolution of the external LCD2690WUXi is 1920x1200@60Hz.
Everything works fine and "as expected" until I start iTunes.
Doing this, both the MacBookPro and the external NEC monitor blank for a short time, as if the MacBook would reinitialize the displays. After doing so, I get the correct resolution on both screens back again, but all windows have now moved to the main screen and decreased in their size, so the dual screen arrangements are lost during this phase. I have to manually put everything back in place, which is highly annoying.
I suspect this behavior might also relate to QuickTime being part of iTunes?
If you have any ideas, please share your knowledge or experience with me.
    Kind regards,
    Jens

  • [SOLVED] Best DE for dual screen setups?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but what is the best DE for a dual screen setup on Arch? Also, can I just use the standard xrandr method to be able to drag windows between screens, if not, what do I do?
    Many thanks.

  • X crashes on startup with AMD dual screen setup

Ever since I bought my AMD Kaveri A10-7850K at the end of January last year I've been having trouble getting a dual screen setup to work properly. Initially I put this down to poor beta drivers, and as I had far too much going on to investigate the issue further beyond some fiddling with xorg.conf, I bought an AMD A4-4000 as a temporary solution while waiting for the Catalyst drivers to catch up.
In June last year I decided to give my A10-7850K another go, assuming that the Catalyst driver would have matured enough in the meantime to cater for the Kaveri processors. Unfortunately the situation was still the same, and I I didn't have the time nor want to be swapping processors all constantly to I decided to just give up on a dual monitor setup for the time being.
After many years of using two screens, however, it is very hard to get used to a single monitor again, and as January is a quiet month for me I decided today to have another at getting it to work properly.
    My setup is as follows:
an LG LG 23EA63V connected via HDMI as my main monitor at 1920x1080
a Viewsonic VP-171b connected via DVI as my secondary monitor at 1280x1024
    AMD A10-7850K APU
Catalyst 14.12-1 drivers installed from Vi0l0's repo
Xorg 1.15 installed from Vi0l0's repo
    KDE 4.14.3 using kwin
    KDM is launched using kdm.service
    KMS disabled via nomodeset
fglrx module loaded on boot via cat /etc/modules-load.d/catalyst.conf
    Tear free rendering enabled
After plugging in my secondary monitor configuring it in amdcccle to be to the right of my primary moniotor in multi-display desktop mode, everything works correctly. This even works in my preferred setup where the secondary monitor is rotated into portrait mode, although I currently have not configured rotation so as to not overcomplicate the troubleshooting.
Upon rebooting, however, X hangs with a static white cursor in the top left hand of both screens, which after a while disappears completely. I then have to unplug the secondary (DVI) monitor and hard reset the PC before I can boot into my desktop again. The bizarre thing is though that when I plug in my secondary monitor again and configure it as desired, either through amdcccle or krandr, everything works perfectly again.
This is, of course, an incredibly cumbersome way of working, especially when most of the time I forget to disconnect my DVI monitor prior to turning on my PC, hence me just making do with a single monitor for the past 7 months.
I did a complete fresh install of Catalyst yesterday (uninstall drivers, delete remaining config files, reinstall drivers from repo), to no avail.
Output from xrandr after rebooting with the secondary monitor disconnected:

    pacman -S xorg-apps xorg-twm xterm

  • I have a dual-screen setup - Workspace Layout Panels - not functioning properly.

I have a dual-screen setup and since updating to 10.10.2, the panels open on the main screen - and not in the positions as they were saved in a Workspace layout.
Tried trashing the prefs - which works, but when I save a new Workspace layout, it does the exact same thing.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi Christopher,
This is a known issue and the product team is working with Apple to address it. Stay tuned.

  • How to darken only one screen in a dual screen setup ??

    Hi All,
I have a dual screen set-up probably like many of you and sometimes I prefer to use LR only on 1 screen. That allows me to work on Photoshop or read my emails or whatever else I'd prefer to do on the other screen. My dilemma is when in Lightroom & I press the letter L to darken the screen around my image, for better viewing, it also darkens the other screen that I'm working with. Is there a way to prevent both screens from darkening?? Thanks Ron
PS: Apologies if this has been addressed previously as I could not locate it

Thank you digitaldog, I didn't think so either

  • Msi R6570 dual screen setup

    hi there,
maybe someone can help me... I currently own a msi radeon r6570 video card and on the rear output I ave a d-sub which I'm using for my initial display, the second is a dvi connecter which I have a dvi to d-sub adaptor for and an hdmi connector, now I'm wondering if I could get some help to set up a dual monitor on my card using the d-sub connector and the dvi port please.. I will be grateful for this help as I really could use dual screens to do my project work with.
thank you in advance and will await any help or advice available

NO... a DVI to VGA cable only takes the analogue pins (Only if it has a inline converter would that work) that are there and uses them but there being used by the VGA port that your direct D-Sub connection is utilizing so it will not work (it will be the same as a DVI-VGA adapter plug like you have already tried) you need a converter for a second analogue connection (VGA 15pin D-Sub) that can convert the digital signal to the needed VGA signal for your VGA monitor as the card has no unused Analogue lines...
that is the only way you can use 2 VGA (15pin D-Sub) connections as the card was not designed for 2 of them (like I said before it has 1 set of analogue connections (VGA 15pin D-Sub) and 2 digital 20-24pin digital lines so you need to convert a digital to analogue via a external circuit or your stuck with your other monitor being unusable)...

  • How to change Default Finder Windows Size?

    Hi all:
New Finder windows show Macintosh HD and there is no problem in keeping the size or view options every time I open a new window (command + N).
I can change "New Finder windows show" to another folder and works just as well.
But when I open a folder in a new window (double click on an icon folder) the size of the window is very small and different from the window displayed by using command + N.
Finder saves and applies default view options to all windows without a problem, but not the default size or in other words:
default windows size is different from new finder windows size.
In Snow Leopard I could change default size of all windows holding down the Shift key while dragging and changing the size but in Mountain Lion it does not work.
I have also deleted all files .DS_Store but neither works.
I searched a lot but can not find a solution to this problem.
    Thanks.

As far as New Finder Windows (command+N) are concerned, there's no problem.
All other folder's Finder Windows I have not modified manually are displayed with the default size shown in the attached image. That is the window size that I want to modify.
    Thanks.

  • Is it possible to pre-set firefox window size?

under windows, one can add a short java script to the line that opens firefox to pre-set window size.

Once you set the size of the window in Firefox it should open that size. No need for scripts. Issues with Firefox should be directed to that vendor.

  • Dual Screen Setup

Hi, I've just bought a Mac Mini and I'm in the process of setting it up to use as a pc and also a media centre connected to my HD Tv and I have a few questions I was hoping someone here could help me with.
At the moment I have the Mac's HDMI out running to my Samsung HD tv's HDMI in. And thunderbolt/minidisplayport running to my Dell Ultrabright's displayport in.
Is this the best set up?
Is there an audio signal sent from the Mac's HDMI out? It comes up as an option in Audio, System Pref. But when I try to switch to it, it immediately jumps back to Default.
Also, is it possible to have more control and separation between the screens? I use the F.lux app which modifies/mellows the screen colour temp into to the evenings. But I don't want to modify the second screeen/desktop as it'll make all my movies look slightly yellow. Also if I do something like a screen grab, I don't want two images. Is there a way to set up the tv desktop to be more passive?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Also if I do something like a screen grab, I don't want two images. Is there a way to set up the tv desktop to be more passive?
    Eiher Grab>Capture selected area, or...
    Command+Shift+4
Capture dragged area and save as a file
    Command+Control+Shift+4
Capture dragged area and copy to the clipboard
Is there an audio signal sent from the Mac's HDMI out?
    http://osxdaily.com/2013/05/04/use-hdmi-audio-output-mac-os-x/
    Long shot, but...
Open Audio Midi Setup in Applications>Utilities, see the input & output options & KHz setting there, some things will change it for their own use, then not set it back.

  • [SOLVED] Dual-Screen Setup with ATI Catalyst

I'm having a beast of a time trying to set up X to work on my two screens.
Screen 1 is a 23" screen connected with a DVI cable.  My preferred resolution for this one is 1920x1080.  Screen 2 is a 17" screen (4:3) connected with a VGA cable.  My preferred resolution for this one is 1280x960.
I tried using "aticonfig --initial=dual-head".  This does not produce a working xorg.conf file.  Specifically, my smaller monitor simply complains about not being able to display the given video mode.  Running xrandr (from the main screen) shows only that output as being "connected" - the rest of them (including the CRT outputs which seem to correspond to the VGA port) as "disconnected".
I've spent about 5 hours searching for an answer to this, and the only ones I seem to be able to find are nvidia-specific.
I have an ATI Radeon HD 4850 or 4870 - I honestly forget which, although the drivers should be the same.  I'm using the catalyst driver from the AUR, because I'd like to have 3D acceleration.
I've read through the entire xorg.conf man page, and tried a few things from there (including writing my own xorg.conf from scratch).  Unfortunately, this seems incredibly useless, as the man page doesn't list any of the options that I seem to need (for example, I've read about and tried the "PairModes" option under "Device").
I can probably eventually figure this out, but it would be nice to have a few pointers.  For example:
Should I have one or two "Device" sections in xorg.conf?  Should I have one or two "Screen" sections in xorg.conf?  Where can I find a full list of possible "Option" keys, at least for the Device section?  Should I be using Xinerama (I've tried with and without, to no avail).
EDIT:  I solved this by using the aticonfig tool some more, and not by messing around with xorg.conf.  Specifically, the command:
    aticonfig --initial=dual-head --xinerama=on --resolution=0,1920x1080 --resolution=1,1280x960 --screen-layout=right
I'll leave this here in the hopes that it can help someone else.

If you aren't playing games, it may be worth it to check out xf86-video-ati. Then you can configure your displays the standard way with xrandr.

  • Still the same issue: Scrolling problem in itunes w/ dual screen setup

    Hey there,
I am getting really ****** here. For 2 months this problem has been bugging me. It seems to randomly appear and disappear.
Just have a look what is happening here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2m4G6c2Tqo
    I basically tried everything.
    1.Reinstalled Windows from scratch twice!
2 Reinstalled Itunes a couple of times - clean install - tried different versions. Yea, got the latest one now.
    3. Tried different VGA drivers. Got the latest Intel driver installed.
The problem has been gone for a couple of weeks now ever since I uninstalled a Windows update called U2711 Dell Display driver (The U2711 is my current LCD). That was just a 80KB file that messed Itunes up.
Well, I believed I found the problem (hail system restore) but nope. Today it started happening again. I even have Windows Update deactivated for that reason so no changes have been made to the system in the last couple of days! It worked fine yesterday.
So again: Same scrolling problem. And it only happens on my second large 27" screen. On the notebook screen it works just fine.
Guys, I really need help. I'm about to curse Apple and Microsoft at the same time.
    Cheers
    K

Since I am that furstated I started trying really unorthodox methods to resolve the problem.
I just started Itunes in compatibilty mode (Windows XP SP3) and for now it seems to be working without that annoying bug!
    Anybody know what that means?!

  • Single screen KVM with dual screen setup

So here's the deal. I have dual 20" cinema displays hooked up to my Quad. I took one of the displays and hooked it up to my IOGear DVI KVM (http://www.iogear.com/main.php?loc=product&Item=GCS1764) so that that display could be shared with my Powerbook G4 and my Core Duo MacMini. However, when I change ports on the KVM, the secondary display "disappears" from the PowerMac and it starts freaking out. Sometimes it will just try to detect the screen (constant signal flickering) for a minute and then give up and operate as a single screen system but most of the time it tries to detect the screen for 2+ minutes until it just crashes the whole computer and then I have to reboot the PowerMac.
    Any ideas?

Removing pin 16 on the DVI cable to the PoweMac might help. See the last item in: <http://www.gefen.com/kvm/support/faq/>

  • T500 Dual Screen Setup WSXGA+

Both my T500 screen and external monitor are 1680x1050 (WSXGA+).  When I choose this setting using either Select display settings from the ThinkVantage Productivity Center, or using the Vista Personalization settings, while the laptop screen shows correctly, the second monitor is not in the wide screen format... full image shows, but "scrunched" on the horizontal.  I also have a Lenovo T61... the T61 auto-detects the second screen and sets up fine, so I suspect I've inadvertently modified a setting on the T500 (brand new...first time setup)

I stated the problem, but not the question: any suggestions on how set up the second screen so it displays in its native resolution? thanks

  • Dual screen on ThinkCentre A55 9641 with WINDOWS 7

    Guys,
Need some help getting my both 2 LCD-screens working under Windows 7. Have had some troubles with activating my VISTA Business-N SP2 with this Lenovo (can't activate MAK and VLK), so it was getting time to get rid of VISTA and try Windows 7.
Everything works, great, except the dualscreen-mode (extended). Can someone help me with that? I remember I had this before, when I had VISTA SP1 and tried to install a new update of Windows, then I rolled-back that update and both screens did work again, but ok that won't help me now.
    Ok, these are the specf's:
Intel® Pentium® D Processor 915, 512MB, 80GB 7200RPM S-ATA HDD, no diskette drive, PCIe Small Form Factor (2x3), Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3000, DVI connection adapter, 48x32x48x16x CD-RW/DVD combo, Intel Gigabit Ethernet
It was always possible to use my both Acer 22" screens, but now not anymore, it's really annoying as you can understand!
Have tried to download new drivers, won't help. Tried to change the settings, have added the screenshot(s). Every time I click on the second screen and 'extended' it changes itself into 'ONLY DISPLAY 1' of 'ONLY DISPLAY 2'.
The duplicate works fine, but I don't need that  ;-)
