Dual screen show..

Hi there..
anyone has a solution for making a dual output show in keynote. I have to make a dual 1024x768 setup as one large widescreen show.

Hello what's this?
Just saw this today:
http://www.matrox.com/graphics/offhome/dh2go/home.cfm
it's a little box that appears to your computer as one BIG WIDE monitor. you then connect two smaller monitors to it and you get a tiled setup.
Here's the good part...though it's listed as PC only, their site mentions this:
"though there is no official support for Mac computers at this time, preliminary testing shows that basic DualHead2Go functionality is available on most Apple Powerbook laptops. Matrox is continuously testing new devices and working on expanding DualHead2Go compatibility."
I doubt it would work for say, adding a true dual screen setup to a Mac mini, it sure would give you a dual screen output for Keynote, where the two screens are meant to connect left to right to each other. You'd simply have to make your Keynote slide twice as wide as a regular screen. VERY cool.

  • [SOLVED] Dual-Screen Setup with ATI Catalyst

I'm having a beast of a time trying to set up X to work on my two screens.
Screen 1 is a 23" screen connected with a DVI cable.  My preferred resolution for this one is 1920x1080.  Screen 2 is a 17" screen (4:3) connected with a VGA cable.  My preferred resolution for this one is 1280x960.
I tried using "aticonfig --initial=dual-head".  This does not produce a working xorg.conf file.  Specifically, my smaller monitor simply complains about not being able to display the given video mode.  Running xrandr (from the main screen) shows only that output as being "connected" - the rest of them (including the CRT outputs which seem to correspond to the VGA port) as "disconnected".
I've spent about 5 hours searching for an answer to this, and the only ones I seem to be able to find are nvidia-specific.
I have an ATI Radeon HD 4850 or 4870 - I honestly forget which, although the drivers should be the same.  I'm using the catalyst driver from the AUR, because I'd like to have 3D acceleration.
I've read through the entire xorg.conf man page, and tried a few things from there (including writing my own xorg.conf from scratch).  Unfortunately, this seems incredibly useless, as the man page doesn't list any of the options that I seem to need (for example, I've read about and tried the "PairModes" option under "Device").
I can probably eventually figure this out, but it would be nice to have a few pointers.  For example:
Should I have one or two "Device" sections in xorg.conf?  Should I have one or two "Screen" sections in xorg.conf?  Where can I find a full list of possible "Option" keys, at least for the Device section?  Should I be using Xinerama (I've tried with and without, to no avail).
EDIT:  I solved this by using the aticonfig tool some more, and not by messing around with xorg.conf.  Specifically, the command:
    aticonfig --initial=dual-head --xinerama=on --resolution=0,1920x1080 --resolution=1,1280x960 --screen-layout=right
I'll leave this here in the hopes that it can help someone else.

If you aren't playing games, it may be worth it to check out xf86-video-ati. Then you can configure your displays the standard way with xrandr.

  • Dual screen problem in CS5

I have been using dual screens with no problems until I installed PS CS5. Now when I drag an image onto the secondary screen the canvas goes black as soon as I relsease the mouse. I can see the rulers etc. and when dragging across the diaplay the image can be seen but as soon as I 'let go' it's blacked out. The really frustrating thing is that this doesn't happen in AI or Dreamweaver (or indeed any other program!).
    So far I have
    Reset the monitors
when changed to show the same on both screens (clone) the image can be seen perfectly ok on both screens
when the secondary monitor is made the primary the problem remains (i.e. the PS image is blacked out on that monitor)
Checked for updates for the monitors (none needed)
Checked CS5 up to date (no updates required)
Checked for graphics card updates (none needed) - NVidia GeForce 8600 GTS
    Uninstalled and re installed PS
Pointed in an annoyed manner at the useless window open on my secondary screen
Is there something simple that I have mistakenly chosen that is preventing the use of my secondary screen?

Check to see if nVidia has released an updated driver for your hardware.  Go to their web site to check.
Unfortunately, from my observations nVidia may have neglected to keep their driver quality up with later releases for the 8600 GT.  I have reports from some of my own customers using my OpenGL software that the driver is troublesome, and have actually reported better results from an older driver version than the very latest release.
Other things you can try to work around the problem:
In Photoshop, Edit - Preferences - Performance, [Advanced...] and change to Basic mode.
Try disabling OpenGL drawing entirely.  If that corrects the issue it's almost a certainty that the nVidia driver is at fault.

  • Problems with dual screens

I am running an iMac 3.06 GHz, 4 GB RAM, 512 VRAM. I also use an external monitor connected via HDMI. When I run Color using dual screens the picture shows almost only black, and what isn't black is so saturated I can barely discern what the picture is. Does anyone know why this is happening and/or how I can fix it?

I'm not sure Color works properly with monitors connected in that manner. Color isn't accurate without proper monitoring, and you can't get proper monitoring with an iMac. By proper monitoring I mean an HDTV or broadcast monitor being fed a VIDEO signal via a hardware capture card (AJA, Decklink, Matrox). You can't get capture cards to work on iMacs, therefore you cannot properly monitor a video signal.
The display in the Color interface is not accurate at all. It is just a reference to see what frame you are on. It isn't designed to be used to judge the quality of the image. It has a much higher gamma (midrange) than is seen on the external monitor.
I'm assuming the monitor you are using is being fed a converted HDMI signal...converted from the DVI or Mini Display port on the computer. Well, that is a computer signal...not a video one. There's a difference. So this setup will not work...not with Color.
    Sorry,

  • Dual screen - at a loss

Hello all. Is there anything special at all to dual-screening  mega 180?
I Installed everything, the CD. Then I powered it off, plugged my second screen in the secondary VGA plug.
While XP was booting, both screens showed - perfectly - the booting screens.
Then when windows was fully loaded, the secondary screen fried. It is NOT a screen failure, as when I plug the primary screen in the secondary VGA plug, it won't work either, though it won't fry. I can test that because the secondary screen will still show windows, though badly distorted so I just have to exchange their positions to test.
So is that a Mega 180 RMA? Or is it something I forgot to do? Does anyone know how to get my screen back? Symptoms are as follow:
the image is WAY too large (inches more than the screen left, and right, with H-size set to minimum). It seems the problem stems from the H frequency:
the correct screen shows H-50Hz V-60Hz the incorrect one shows H-40Hz V-60Hz
Any programs can set those values?
Anyways thanks and good day to you all!

As an update, I tried switching the main display to the MBP. Nothing changed.
However, I changed the rotation to 90 degrees and everything is back to Normal! Aside from the fact that I'm looking a 24" screen in the vertical position.

  • Unknown update made dual screens act wonky

Late 2008 MacBook Pro 15.  10.6.8 OS.  I use Fusion Version 3.1.3.  I use spaces and go between laptop screen and laptop and external together regularly.
When on dual screens I typically have Fusion in lower left spaces using dual screens in full screen mode.
This all worked PERFECTLY! and was fabulous until recently.  I always do the regular software updates from MS (fusion is running windows 7) and Apple and Adobe and Java and, and, and...yes it get's a little frustrating.
Recently and very suddenly my dual screen changed dramatically.  Suddenly I can not get the mac or fusion to recognize the laptop screen as the primary screen by default when it is open and I'm attached to an external screen.  This was default before. Frequently I have to go into the screen resolution in win7 and set it to make screen #2 as primary screen just to get my start bar down where it was before naturally.  Many times I find the screens are in full screen dual monitor mode but the mouse has decided to show in the external screen but click in the same relative position but on the macbook laptop screen. the only way out of that is to get out of "use both screens" and then go back in again, a tedious task considering then I also have to reset the main screen.
I am not sure if this is an apple update problem, a fusion update (I didn't think I had done a fusion update but I might have and not remembered) or some other problem.  It sounds suspiciously like some of the problems people are reporting with Lion so I don't know if an update of one supporting program that made it "more compatible with lion" made my life misserable.  I have not gone to Lion specifically because I used to LOVE LOVE LOVE how this works.  Now it is truely frustrating as all get out.
Anyone with any ideas I'd love to find out.

  • IPad mini Retina refuses to go into Dual Screen mode on AppleTV. Any Solutions?

I've tried many games such as "Real Racing 2 HD" or "Sky Gamblers: Air Supremacy" - the iPad mini Retina just mirrors the image (in a bad quality) but shows the same on the TV and the iPad... On the iPhone 5 or the iPad 2 it switches correctly into the Dual Screen Mode as soon as the app launches - the iPad mini refuses to do so...
Is this a (software) bug of the iPad mini Retina in general or is it a hardware issue with my mini retina?
The Apple Photo-App works just fine and also the music playback over the TV-Speaker works properly.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
On the basis that you get poor quality mirroring when things do work, you presumably have network problems, it may be worth investigating these and solving them before troubleshooting the iPad mini.

  • DWM dual screen

*hi guys, i was just wondering how's dwm with dual screens? I've got thinkpad R400 with 1280x800 and external screen 1280x1024 connected to my docking station. the problem is, that i want to use both of those screens, not duplicate, but extend, maybe run two dwms or i don't know what, since xinerama is deprecated... i've tried, but xinerama is not compatible with my intel integrated graphics 4500MHD card, which has brand new drivers. can you please help me? i don't want my second screen just standing there turned off...

Are you sure that you can't use both?  What is the output of the "xrandr" command when you have your second monitor plugged in?
If you see two displays listed (mine show up as LVDS1 for my laptop panel, and DVI1 for my external monitor), try running the following command:
    xrandr --output DVI1 --auto --right-of LVDS1

  • Dual screen with radeon driver stopped working

I've been using the xf86-video-ati or xf86-video-radeonhd drivers on my ATI 1950Pro card with a dual screen setup on two 22" widescreen Acer monitors for the last year and all of a sudden the dual display is not working anymore. I had not changed my xorg.conf http://pastebin.ca/1409905 but here is my current Xorg log http://pastebin.ca/1409904
Right now I'm seeing "cloned" desktops on the two screens but ARandR only sees one monitor http://s288.photobucket.com/albums/ll17 … ot-1-1.png. There was an update to xf86-video-ati yesterday, but no change in my situation unfortunately. Any suggestions or solutions would be awesome. Thanks.

Using radeonhd driver, it won't let the first monitor have any resolution higher than 1024x768, but the other monitor works fine even though they are identical monitors and my xorg.conf file has full Modeline entries for both and both screen sections have the resolution set to 1680x1050.
Here is what ARandR is showing:

I work on dual screens on a new mac pro but when I do the 4 finger swipe it moves both screens, is there a way to move just the screen that is active?

Multiple desktops and dual screens really aren't meant to work together. Apple came up with this multiple desltops feature and never really thought about users that use a dual monitor setup. So use either multiple desktops OR dual monitors but not both. Also don't try to use any App in Full Screen Mode as that doesn't work with dual screen setups either.

  • What options do I have if I want to set up a dual screen?

I have a Thinkpad T400 with a ATI Radeon HD3470 card. I am running the latest Arch x86_64 with Fluxbox and the 9.4 Catalyst drivers.
What is the easiest solution to set up a dual screen? Is there a way to do this without editing xorg.conf? Not that editing xorg.conf really is a big problem, but I will be moving around a bit and finding the correct settings for each screen would take some work. And I would like to see how far the dual screen development has come on GNU/Linux.
The way I see it the best way would be to have two screens with separate resolutions. Since LCD screens do not handle resolutions other then the native very well. So just stretching the screen makes the slave screen run the same height as the parent screen. Or am I wrong? It is not a problem running stretched if the screens run at the native resolution.
So, xrandr just gives me stretching. And the need of editing xorg.conf.
What about Twinview(just for nVidia) and Xinerama?
    Is there other solutions?
    SOLUTIONS:
There is arandr and lxrandr, both frontends to xrandr. Requires minimal xorg.conf editing. Only add a virtual line in the screen section. The virtual size does not have to be accurate, it only have to be bigger then the screens together. In my case, I have a 1440x900 primary screen and at most a 1280x1024 secondary screen. So my virtual size would be minimum 2720x1024. This is with the screens side by side. If the screens is one above the other it would be 1440x1924.
The exact size of the monitor is handled by xrandr(arandr or lxrandr). So, there will be no dead zone in the width(side by side solution), if the real height is different on the screen there will be a dead zone in height.
Using arandr or lxrandr means that you manually have to set this up each time the computer is restarted. To automate this, you can use xrandr. First do a
    # xrandr
    Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 2464 x 900, maximum 2720 x 1024
    LCD connected 1440x900+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 304mm x 190mm
