Dual sound jack

I can't get my sound to work through my audio jacks on my dv6t Quad. Is there a special adapter that is needed to get the sound working through external speakers when connecting them through the 3.5mm audio jack? I haven't had a laptop with more than one audio jack. Is there a way of deactivating the one jack so I can use the one other jack as a normal outoput jack? Is there a good reason for having two jacks? Please could someone explain this to me?

Hi,
Here is the reason to have 2 headphone jacks
   http://www.ehow.com/how_6890012_use-laptop-2-headphone-jacks.html
We should be able to use 99% of normal 3.5mm headphones for 99% of normal laptops. Please enable Speakers in Playback devices as follows:
1. Right click speaker icon (right hand corner)
2. Select Playback devices
3. Right click Speakers
4. Enable it
5. Click Apply/Ok
Regards.

  • External speaker sound jack not working?

Altec Lansing VS2421. Not a bad little 2:1 speaker set up for the money. They work fine on my G5 Quad, but not on the iMac. I get that 'interference noise' when I plug the speaker connector into the sound jack. But no music, nada, niet, zilch, non.
This iMac has been plagued by all sorts of problems recently and this is the most recent one to give me a headache. Does anyone have any ideas, what might be causing it?

    Miriam,
Thank you for the link. Really useful information. However, I'm not certain, but think my problem isn't connected with ground loops. It's more basic than that.
If I mute the internal speaker of the iMac, whilst leaving the External speakers on, there is no sound at all. If I twist the external audio jack around in it's socket on the Mac, I get feedback and what I think is AC hum. But no audio signal. And if I switch the internal speakers on, I get a normal audio signal.

  • Xfi platinum dual sound out

I would like to find out if this product is capable of doing dual sound out? So you have sounds from dvd out into headphone and music out to speakers. is this possible of this product??

If you mean two separate stereo outputs then, it's possible (X-Fi Plat is 7.1 card -> 8 analog mono output channels available (in PCI Card) + 2 analog mono output channels (in I/O Drive). I don't know if the Headphone-out in I/O Drive is shared w/ ports in PCI card (line-out 1&2) so, ... .
You need an additional player software that allows you to set the output ports freely --> NI TRAKTOR BeatPort Player and Foobar as for an example can be used (I suggest to use ASIO device drivers w/ this other player).
Your DVD player outputs normally through output channels 1&2 when stereo source is used (and uses DS/MME/WDM device drivers) --> you just set the additional player to output through channels 3&4 (or 5&6, 7&8). Some other settings needs to be done in CT software but, since you don't seem to have the card in hands yet, ...
If you meant to output multichannel (5.1) and stereo simultaenously, that may be a bit more difficult to be done (I quess) ... .

  • Sound Jack dead on my Mini-Need options

It seems my external sound jack is dead. I have speakers hooked to it and nothing coming out. Swapped the plug to my laptop and music plays.
Yes the volume is turned up because when I unplug it, the internal speaker jumps to life...But that sound quality is just not gonna cut it for listening to my tunes.
This thing is well out of warranty so I don't think taking it into the store or calling is going to do me any good.....Is there such a thing a bluetooth or USB speakers?
    Thanks!
    Mike

The m-audio Transit will give you a USB option for both audio in and out (including digital).

  • Sound jack glowing red

    Hello,
So since a week, my sound jack is giving me a red light. I did some research on it, and what came out is that the sound jack is probably stuck and that if you put a toothpick in it gently it will be all good.
But this wasn't the case with me, so I did more research. And I saw a post with a few tips. Nothing worked but there was 1 last tip, run a repair disk with the install CD. I tried that and it said that it couldn't be repaired and had to reinstall osX (I couldn't mount it anymore). So I reinstalled osX and even now the sound jack will turn red when hearing music.
My biggest fear is that it's a hardware problem, and I have to give it to an apple centre. They didn't do a good job a few months ago, they fixed 1 hardware problem but caused 100 software problems. So yeah, I don't like the apple care thing.
A side note: The speakers work perfectly on windows even when there's a red light..
    Greetings Robin.

I've had this intermittent issue on my 2009 MBP for years now, it comes and goes and I've never had any issues with sound whatsoever, both through speakers and through the port itself. I wouldn't worry about it, especially if it isn't causing any issues.

  • Sound jack not sending proper sig

I've had my Zen Micro for quite some time now, since June of 2005, but not until January of this year did the sound jack start to malfunction. I left for some time to go over seas so I had no time to toy with it at all. To achieve proper sound, you have to move the adapter to a certain position, even then it doesn't great. I have heard of people having this problem in the past but I haven't been able to find any solutions to the matter; should I send it in or does anyone have any solutions to this matter? I'm open to anything that you have heard, or has worked for you.

heh, well I guess your IS up so taking it apart wouldn't be a problem, I can't remember...how long is the warranty for? But maybe you just need to clean it... I havent found any kind of cloth thin or small enough to fit into the jack yet. Any other suggestions... I'm trying to avoid calling them as much as possible.

  • Sound jack 8530p

Recently acquired a used 8530p which is great except that the sound jack suddenly stopped working. Had it working with speakers for some days, no problem, tried it with headphones ... no sound. Thought there must be a problem with headphones, but now there is no sound when connected again to speakers. Internal speakers work fine. Have checked settings. Any ideas please?

    Hi Byrolinda,
To get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since this is a commercial product. You can do this at Commercial Forums.

  • Problem with dual audio jack after Bootcamp installation

    Hello,
I have installed windows 8.1 via via Bootcamp on my macbook pro (Retina, 15 inch, medio 2014 with Yosemite 10.10.2).
Everything works fine except 1 thing.
Problem:  The audio of my steelseries headphones are really crappy now. In windows and on Mac. It sounds really cold.   This is only with my steelseriesv3 headphones with the new 3,5 mm dual jack.   I tested it with an old headset with only audio and that works fine.
Before i installed windows via bootcamp it worked fine!   I think the problem is that the new 3.5 audio port software on doesn't work with bootcamp???
    Help is much appreciated.
    Kind regards,
    Tom

Can you uninstall the SV3 software and use the default BC drivers? I use the Optical (and power Amp) or USB DAC with headphones. I have an older Sennheiser headset.

  • Sound import problem into iMovie through sound jack.

I am attempting to transfer sound into iMovie from an external audio tape recorder through the sound import port on a Power Mac G4 mirror door tower running Tiger. When I do this the sound ends up in the time line viewer and looks normal but when I attempt to play it, the volume is very low. It is so low you cannot even make out what it is. Another clip in the time line from another source plays at the normal volume. I also raised the gain on the imported clip to the highest level and still it was very low.
To record the audio above I did the following:
Clicked Media, and then clicked the Audio button at the top of the Media pane.
Clicked the Record button. The recorder was playing the sound and plugged into the audio input jack of the G4.
Is this the correct way to do this? If no what do I do?
    Help Please
    Thanks much!

For a more reliable way to get sound into a Mac, it's worth getting a USB input device (..I use one of these Hercules Muse things, which looks like a giant doorknob)..
..but there are others like the "iVoice" and "iMic".
You can plug in virtually any audio input (..line level or mic level, so there's no impedance-matching problem..) and the audio always enters the Mac at optimum level ..you simply have to choose the USB device as the source of the incoming audio in the System Preferences>Sound pane.

  • HT1438 Ipod touch sound/jack problem

When using my ipod touch in the car, sound only comes out one speaker unless I press sideways against the jack.  Same when using earphones.

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.

  • IPhone sound jack, only hear one ear

iPhone 4, OS 5.1.1 only hear sound from one ear bud, had headphone jack replaced same problem.  was recommended to back up and restore and see if that works.  Any thoughts?

Ok, but make sure you push down firmly.  Sometimes the last "bump" is a little hard to get over when inserting your earphones.  If you're sure it is, you may want to try another pair of earphones/headphones to make sure it's the phone that's the problem.  Otherwise, you can try restoring your phone, first using your backup.  If that fails you'll have to save as much of your data as possible and restore it as a new phone, without using your backup.  If the problem remains after restoring as a new phone then you'll have to make an appointment to take it to the Apple store for evaluation as it may be a hardware problem.  Be sure to back it up first in case it has to be replaced.

  • Cannot get dual sound sources playing at the same time

    Hello
New to Arch. I am trying to play a web based flash source and a web based java source at the same time. I can get both to play seperately but when I have both running only the first one opened has sound.  I also installed pulseaudio-gnome, alsa-plugins, Firefox codecs and plugins. Below is my sound devices. Thanks for your reply.
    lspci|grep Audio
00:14.2 Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA)
01:05.1 Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc RS780 Azalia controller

Try playing each of your apps. Do they show up in 'Playback'? What sink is selected, for each of them?
Why do you have 'Simultaneous output' anyway. Do you have multiple devices at some point in time that you need to output to at the same time? What modifications have you made to your pulse configs, or to your .asoundrc?
In other words, have you read and applied the Pulseaudio wiki.

  • What do i do if my (a.) my itunes no longer detects my ipod, and (b.) no sound comes out of the headphone jack? The ipod still turns on, operates, and charges.

My ipod still works as far as powering up and operating is concerned, but it suddenly stopped outputting a signal through the sound jack. Also it no longer is detected by itunes in the source list.

It would be odd if both of those problems happened at the same time, since they seem unrelated (unless you dropped the iPod or got it wet or had some other accident).
Check the other end of both of those connections first.  Try a different set of headphones.  Try a different docking cable.  Try a different USB port.  Make sure the computer has been restarted since having this problem.
If it still powers up to the main screen, and seems to play songs (although you can't hear them), that probably means the hard drive is still working.  That's good, because it's the most valuable part, and the part that usually breaks first (on an iPod that has a hard drive).
If you can't get it working, you might consider getting a broken iPod on eBay.  Chances are good that it is broken because of a bad hard drive (unless the description makes it clear that it's another problem), and the other parts (except maybe the battery) are likely to be OK.  You can then swap its bad hard drive for your iPod's hard drive.  Be sure to get the same type of iPod, including the thickness, because the 5th gen iPod came in two thicknesses (corresponding to the thickness/capacity of the hard drive mechanism).
This is one web site with instructions for disassembly
    http://www.ifixit.com/Device/iPod_Original
But don't spend too much money on it.  The hard drive may appear to be working now, but you never know when it might fail.
