  • 2-Port Dual View KVM Switch

I'm about to purchase a 2012 (late fall) Mac Mini.  I currently use a G5 Tower w/Tiger, with two monitors VGA monitors.  As technology changes faster than I can keep up, is there a chance that "2-Port Dual View KVM Switch" means I could connect two monitors at the same time?  I want to be able to switch between the G5 and the Mac Mini.
Part of the discription reads: This new KVM Switch lets you control two dual-head, VGA-enabled USB computers from one USB console that includes two VGA monitors.
    Please advise.
    Patt

    Thanks Eric,
I know that Kvm is used to swap between two computers, what I don't know is if there a way to swap dual monitors.  If I continue to use my G5, as this has all the software I use, and soon the internet will become less and less usualble on the G5, will the KVM work swaping back and forth if I use two monitor on my G5 and one monitor on my Mac Mini?  Of course, my goal is to continue using both my VGA monitors for both Macs.
I'm understanding that since the 2012 Mac Mini only has room for one VGA monitor which is connected to the thunderbold port via an adapter which comes with the Mac Mini  (true or false)?
I'm understanding that I could connect the Mac Mini to two VGA monitors if I purchase an adapter that would connect to the HDMI port and using the DVI port/adapter VGA - I can connect two monitors.
But will the KVM have the means for swapping the mouse, keyboard and two monitors back and forth? This is my big hurtle.
This is what I saw on the discription that was different from other KVM discriptions.
"This new KVM Switch lets you control two dual-head, VGA-enabled USB computers from one USB console that includes two VGA monitors."
You were very kind to help, I hope my clarification helps.

  • Premiere incapable of dual view?

We recently purchased the Adobe CS3 Suite along with the Matrox RT.X2 card and, apparently, we aren't able to use Premiere Pro with dual monitors unless we do the Horizontal Span (won't work with dual view). Is this a problem of Premiere Pro, or the Matrox card?
Does anyone know if this is something that is supposed to be fixed with future updates?
    Thanks.

More info on dual monitors in Premiere Pro.

  • Qosmio x300 - no dual view option when using analogue

Have plugged in an analogue monitor. I can get an image to appear on either the analogue monitor or the laptops LCD but I can't get it to appear on both, i.e. dual view - either extended desktop or clone.
I have a Qosmio (a regret since buying it due to all the problems it has and Toshiba customer service have!). Its an x300-13w and I am running win vista x64.
I have the latest drivers from Toshiba website and looking to various forums I have tried to find a reg key called DisableDualView but cannot find such a key (the key probably only exists in win xp).
After removing the analogue monitor my laptop is now playing up further in that every time it logs in it does so under a lower resolution then flicks back to the correct high resolution.
Have tried turning sli off in case that was the cause of the problem but that was no help.
The problem appears to be that neither the nvidia control panel nor windows display settings shows the option for multiple monitors, both display only a single monitor option.
In the windows display settings I can only see "generic php monitor on nvidia geforce 9800...." and when I plug in the analogue monitor it says "multiple monitors on nvidia geforce...." however the monitor icon only shows one monitor.
In the nvidia control panel I only see the option "only use one display (single)".
Any suggestions on what I might try?
I seem to have some memory of having to change something in BIOS to switch between using HDMI and VGA but can't remember where I might have seen this.

    frther update:
have been playing around with the settings... i can only get dual view to appear as an option and to work if i use the 9400m integrated graphics in windows power saver scheme.
when i turn off SLi (by turning the power scheme to power saver) i note the following:
    1) dual view works
    2) Windows shows only the LCD and CRT on the 9400m graphics (which i understand is the integrated graphics)
    3) Nvidia control panel also shows that the 9400M is in use
does the 9800m gts not support dual view?
when i turn on SLi i note:
    1) dual view does not work
    2) windows device manager shows 4 monitors. 2 on the 9400m and 2 on the 9800m gts.
    3) nvidia shows only the LCD on the 9800m gts. there is no sign of the crt.
so my problem is now narrowed down to:
i can't use dual view when the computer is in performance or balanced mode (power scheme options).
has anyone successfully used the dual view option on the 9800m gts when in performance and\or SLi mode? any tips on how i can too ;)
considerign the advantage of SLi i would have expected the 9400 to complain and the 9800 to be running just fine.

  • 5600XT - 2nd Monitor flickers in Dual View

Problem Description: I am running on dual monitor mode using two Samsung Syncmaster 171s monitors.  After 20 minutes of the system being up and running the second monitor has started switching on and off every 10 seconds or so, the on and off becomes more rapid if I open a video editing suite like Adobe premiere pro, any ideas as to the problem.....?
    many thanks

    Hi redturnover
Could be a bad or loose connection, the connection method, the adapter, the cable or the Refresh Rate.
Disconnect everything and reconnect it in the following order:
    1. Connect the cable to the Acer
    2. Connect the Adapter to the cable
    3. Connect the Adapter to the iMac
Also tie up and/or support the cable and adapter so that it is not pulling or putting un-due strain on the iMac's video output port.
Then go to: System Preferences > Displays and check the Refresh Rate to make sure that it is within the Acer Spec's of 49 to 75Hz. I believe you should be able to select either 60 or 75Hz, if your using either a DVI or HDMI connection.

  • Displays switch around when using dual view on Satellite P100

I have a Satellite P100-434 (PSPADE). I am trying to use the laptop as the primary display and an LCD screen as a secondary monitor. I have found that no matter how I configure this, using either the Vista display properties or through the Nvidea control panel I am getting a problem where the monitors periodically swap over.
I am not bothered which device is the primary but getting the system to make it's mind up would be really usefull.
This seems to happen when I am typing, making me wonder if there is a keypress that I am inadvertantly triggering which is causing this to happen. Ideas anyone?

    Hi,
you should do the following things:
    - update your bios to the latest available version
    - update your display drivers and any other remaining drivers in your system to the latest available version
    - maybe, if the driver updates dont really help you out, recover your machine with the recovery media and check if the error re-appears.
IF all these steps didnt worked for you, then come back and we will discuss it further. :)

  • Print Screen while using dual view monitors on Tecra M5

I've got a Tecra M5, in a docking station, and I am using the laptop screen as primary monitor and an external LCD as the secondary. Whenever I use the Print Screen function I find it copies both screens into the clipboard. Is there a setting on the nvidia controls which will allow me to only copy the "active" screen? To avoid the problem I find I have to return to single screen mode which is very irritating.
    Thanks
    Shuggy

I assume you use the extended desktop option on your machine
This happens because the ALT+Print Screen option creates a short cut of the full desktop.
If you want to create a shortcut of the single desktop you dont have to use the extended desktop option.

  • [solved] Dual view and xfce compositor

I have some troubles when I'm connecting a monitor to my laptop. In normal times everything works fine. However when the monitor is connected I get this result:
    http://ompldr.org/vOTU5OQ
On the left hand side screen Ario is the active window, however the inactive windows (like conky and urxvt), which are set to transparent with xfce compositor, are remaining visible in the foreground (you can not click on them but nevertheless very disturbing). On the right hand side screen the window decoration is transparent and remains drawn on the foreground.
Had anyone observed this before? I do not use any xorg.conf. Maybe by creating the xorg.conf can solve this issue?
I also briefly tried compiz. Here everything works fine but compiz takes a lot of ressources. But it shows that the issue is related to the xfce compositor I use...

Is X already started for you? Then you connect the monitor and type the appropriate xrandr command? Or are both monitors already plugged in when you type "startx"?
I have compositing enabled for xfwm4 and

  • Create a view with datatype from dual

    I have Windows XP with 10g 10.2.0.1.0
I need to create a view from dual and with data type, such as NUMBER(5,2), NUMBER or VARCHAR2(20) .
    such as:
create view test(view_test varchar2(20)) as (select view_test from dual)
    Please help. Thanks in advance.

It does seem kind of odd, but you can do something like this with the CAST function:
    SQL> create view dual_view as
      2  select cast(null as number(5,2)) col1
      3        ,cast(null as date)    col2
      4        ,cast(null as varchar2(30)) col3
      5  from   dual;
    View created.
    SQL> desc dual_view
    Name                                      Null?    Type
    COL1                                               NUMBER(5,2)
    COL2                                               DATE
COL3                                               VARCHAR2(30)I used NULLs but you can use actual values if you want.

  • Dual Display view under Windows XP

Does my Notebook display dual view under Windows XP?

I've done some research. This dual display with single graphic chip feature was not offered with Windows 2000. This is a software restriction of Microsoft's Windows 2000 operating system and not a hardware technical restriction.

  • Contoling structure of view.

    Hi,
Can we define the column datatype sizes during creation of view.
Let us consider the following view creation script.
    create or replace view cmonlftWCr
    select custcd,custnm,excldlryn,exdlrfrm,to_char(billdate,'YYYY-MM') Month,
    sum(billqty) MthQty,mqtycrt(sum(billqty)) MthQtyCrit
    from billdtl1
    group by custcd,custnm,excldlryn,exdlrfrm,to_char(billdate,'YYYY-MM')
    order by excldlryn,custcd,to_char(billdate,'YYYY-MM')
This creates the required view. but with the following structure.
    SQL> desc cmonlftWCr;
    Name Null? Type
    CUSTCD NOT NULL NUMBER(7)
    CUSTNM NOT NULL VARCHAR2(50)
    EXCLDLRYN NOT NULL CHAR(1)
    EXDLRFRM DATE
    MONTH VARCHAR2(7)
    MTHQTY NUMBER
    MTHQTYCRIT VARCHAR2(4000)
My problem is with column mthqty and mthqtycrit.
I want mthqty should have the datatype number(9,3) and mthqtycrit should have the datatype char(3). The function mqtycrt returns only character string of 3 character long.
Can anybody help me out in this regard...?
    Soumen.

    Hello
You just need to use the CAST operator:
SQL> create or replace view dt_test_view as
      2  select
      3     '1' as col1,
      4     CAST ('1' as  NUMBER(1)) as col2,
      5     CAST ('1' as  VARCHAR2(10)) as col3,
      6     '01-JAN-05' as col4,
      7     CAST ('01-JAN-05' AS DATE) as col5
      8  from
      9     dual;
    View created.
    SQL> select * from dt_test_view;
    C       COL2 COL3       COL4      COL5
    1          1 1          01-JAN-05 01-JAN-05
    SQL> desc dt_test_view;
    Name                                      Null?    Type
    COL1                                               CHAR(1 CHAR)
    COL2                                               NUMBER
    COL3                                               VARCHAR2(10)
    COL4                                               CHAR(9 CHAR)
    COL5                                               DATEHTH

  • Dual monitor failure! (FX5200)

Well, 2 days ago I connected a second CRT monitor to my MSI NVidia FX5200 VTD128 card via the addapter given with the card.
It was working ok, though the refresh rates were noticeably slower on both monitors when both monitors were active.
Then I started getting little flickers, even though there was nothing going on, which was a little strange...but I figured it was ok.
So I was working with powerpoint, Macromedia Flash MX, Windows Media Player, etc. and I started having some problems, especially with Powerpoint. I'll use powerpoint to explain what happened: While previewing my presentation the 2nd (older) monitor was where the presentation was being displayed. It usually didn't take long for the screen to flicker a bit, and change the vertical and horizontal size of the display, to something that was just not right. I could reset it back to the orizinal resolution or v/h sync by going into settings and changing the resolution.
Well, then it happened again, but this time the entire image was lost! Now I can not get an image to that monitor while in windows...works during startup though. Please help.

Sorry,  I really had to leave earlier.
I got the two monitors to work together again, but this time there were some limitations, and it eventually led to the same end as before.
As far as I can tell it is a windows problem or a video card problem, not a power supply or motherboard issue. I should have said that earlier. I believe it to be a video card problem, which is leading to a windows problem.
So as I said I have the FX5200 VTD128 card, running on a 4x AGP slot with NVidia drivers (not MSI drivers as these do not work on my system). My case temperature is fairly constant at approx. 81 F, and I don't know the temp of the video card.
The first time I had a problem I was using the DualView option, where both monitors are separate pretty much. After a few hours of working nicely the monitor started having so problems...it would blink an come back with a picture that was very narrow and extremely tall (both more than what could be fixed with the monitor controls). Also the colour was dull and dark. Eventually after fixing this problem a few times by changing the resolution to reset the monitor, the computer crashed. When I restarted windows the second monitor remained black while in windows (though I still see all the start up stuff on it).
So today since I couldn't get the Dual View option to work I used the option that spreads the image over both monitors. Exact same thing happened a few hours after use.
Since I had restarted my computer over this period of time, I am pretty sure it is not a memory thing. I'm guessing it is a heat thing. I have a feeling the fan on the video card is not working like it is supposed to without the MSI drivers. If this is the case, MSI should be responsible for informing buyers about this problem.
Since I was using different programs both times, I'm pretty sure it is not related to what programs were running. And since the monitor was working no problem earlier, I don't think it has anything to do with the hardware in my computer, though I tried to provide some info earlier...though I do believe there was enough info there for a somewhat educated guess as to what my problem could have been.
I have a feeling this will have to go to MSI support to get any type of answer, but hopefully someone else has a good idea as to what it is and what can be done about it.
    Thanks
    PS.
Richard, I believe the 4 wheels would be the equivelent of me saying I had a video card....the h/v sync thing would be like saying the car is making a specific noise. Welcome to the life of a mechanic. I appreciate help, but please refrain from the sarcasm.

  • Can a view pass a restricting value to a function as 'IN' value ?

An existing local view 'email_addresses' that used to just query an underlying, local, simple flat table - needs to be replaced.
IE: The old local view performed a "select username,user,email_address from owner.contacts"
It was called remotely, from within a procedure, over a db_link IE:"select * from from email_addresses@db_linkname where username = 'TOM' "
    All was well.
The table of email addresses is now no longer available.
The replacement local view in reality, is to perform an LDAP A.D. query to get the email_address for the supplied username - passed as 'username'
in the 'where clause' - see above Example query.
The code for the AD query uses DBMS_LDAP and gets all atributes for a "sAMAccountName", loops through and keeps just the ones I'm interested in. ( I can supply the code for that too if needed.)
The function or procedure performing the dbms_ldap query could return a concatenated string, or a refcursor - whatever can be made to work with the new view (although a concatenated string would also need to be broken back into 3 columns - maybe using tilde as the field seperators?)
The new view will need to call a function or procedure to return the LDAP data , that itself will accept the limiting 'where' in a ad-hoc query .
The limiting 'where' clause is ALWAYS supplied to the view.
To make it easier for someone to help me , I have supplied the following code.
    create table ldap_lookup
    (username varchar2(50), name varchar2(50), email_address varchar2(50));
    insert into ldap_lookup values('Tom','Thomas','[email protected]');
    insert into ldap_lookup values('Dick','Richard','[email protected]');
    insert into ldap_lookup values('Bill','William','[email protected]');

    Any simple instructions for say:
User does "sqlplus LanLoginName@tnsalias" on their PC (with 10g client tools installed) and it will connect to a Unix DB without any password prompts. Er.. not in our part of the corporate world. SQL*Plus, or MS-Access, or TOAD access to a production database by end-users? That's simply not on.
The DB somehow checks their Lan username from v$process or somewhere against a call to dbms_ldap, and if all's well NOT kill the session? Possible, but not very secure - as that can be spoofed. Not easily (beyond the means of your normal end-user), but you do not need to bind a unique NetBIOS name on that client for the driver to pass that across as part of its connection string. So I'm not sure how comfortable the security people would be with such a solution.
Also, a session cannot kill itself. So it will need to schedule a job or use a DBMS_PIPE or similar to request another process to kill it.
It seems to me that the listener would need to accept the connection attempt and call the dbms_ldap somehow. Maybe that's what OID does. - but only for Kerberos tickets that have been issued from the AD and now passed on from the Client PC.The Listener does not authenticate the Oracle username and password for a session - it is simply there to basically listen for connections and hand these off to dedicated server processes or dispatchers (if shared server is used). So the Listener works on transport level and not application level (e.g. like dealing with encryption of the transport layer).
But then I've never used the Listener with Kerebos/LDAP so I could be wrong here as to the Listener doing authentication....
Yes, a coded application could connect as 'dummy' first, ask from Ldap chacks to be done, set session contexts etc, but what about dumb old sql*plus? In that case, after connecting the same step as the app server needs to be made - a call to the PL/SQL unit that performs the authorisation. Only, without the app layer, there is now no authentication of username and password.
You could built that into PL/SQL too... but then there's the problem with using standard OCI that will result in a clear text username and password being send across the network (as a PL/SQL anonymous block call). Which then requires an encrypted connection between client and server.
This stuff just goes in circles...Yeah.. but I think that is in part that many corporate level security requirements are not realistic and do not meet the actual requirement of securing the network, and most importantly, safeguarding the valid users on it.
Especially if the security is base primarily around Microsoft's concept and implementation of how security should work. That is a recipe for using proprietary stuff that can only seamlessly integrate with other Microsoft products. Microsoft does not only dislike the concept of open standards, they purposefully avoid it, or worse, corrupt it.
Can you give a very quick overview of the NTLM method?Dirty. Not that secure IMO (look for a hacker paper called "+CIFS - Common Insecurities Fail Scrutiny+" by hobbit - old, but in many ways still applicable).
Apache can be build with a NTLM authentication module (just as it supports mod_sso and mod_ldap ) and this allows your app tier (3 tier architecture) to use Apache to do the dirty deed. And that's the extent of how we support NTLM.
Long time ago when still using Oracle v7 on Windows, I recall there was a means to use NTLM authentication with Oracle... no idea how it is supported today and whether or not it requires additional options to be purchased.
Any idea how to duplicate "AD 'Group' accounts of SQL Server" - in Oracle - without buying the Advanced Security Option?Equally long time since I last use SQL-Server.. :-)
I suggest that you consider another forum here on OTN to bounce these questions around.
