Dual Xeons Or Dual GPU Premiere cs6?

Hey,
Does PR support "DUAL" processors. GPU OR CPU.
Iam willing to upgrade to dual Xeons like  " HD-Juggernaut"
from ADK.
Is it helful for PR or not, or i just stick with i7?

As Bill said, dual GPU is not a good idea... some previous discussions

  • IMAC Premiere CS6 and GPU's question. (Updated)

The only new iMac's which might support GPU CUDA operation in Premiere CS6, are the 27 inch ones using the GTX 675MX or the GTX 680MX video chipset. Neither of these are on the cuda supported list but of course they could be added to the appropriate file to enable them to work. Is there anyone out there successfully using them in GPU acceleration mode? If so please let me know if they do work and which of the two you have. I can then argue my case with the boss.
Also, is anyone using them with Windows 7? Our Mac's are dual boot.
    Bye Andrew

Ok, I've upgraded to Mountain Lion now and that hasn't made Premiere any faster. However I've just been looking at the Scratch Disk configuration and they are all set to 'Same as Project'.
So here's my new question. I have 4 internal HDD's. At the moment the OS and Premiere Pro is on disk 1. Disk 2 is currently recieving my Premiere Pro project files and disk 3 and 4 are completely empty ready for footage or anything else. What is the best way to set up the Scratch Disks and Premiere Pro's Media cache(s)?
For reference the scratch disk options are currently:
    1) Captured Video - Same as Project
    2) Captured Audio - Same as Project
    3) Video Previews - Same as Project
    4) Audio Previews - Same as Project
Currently my 'Media Cache Files' are being sent to disk 1 and this is also where my 'Media Cache Database' is located.
    So what should I change?

  • CC & Dual GPU

    My new build is running a GTX570oc , I can pickup a 660ti for $200 to add.
I know sli was unsupported a while back, but what's the workings of CC and its dual GPU support ?
Will it utilize both cards and unlike sli doesn't matter if they are a matching pair ?
The 660 has 2.5 times the cuda cores at a fraction slower bandwidth so I think ill get some good results.
Does dual GPU in CC require much setup/tinkering and does it just use both, or make a primary and secondary ?
    Thanks
    Troy

    Troy,
Dual GPU in CC is trivial to set up and requires no tinkering for the additional card. Of course, this assumes that you have enough power supply, PCIex16 slots, MPE hack, and cooling for the additional card(s). You do not need to SLI the cards to get the benefits in Premiere Pro. I did read on this forum that it works with mis-matched GPUs, but I've only seen that verified for cards using a common driver. As you probably know, the two cards that you mention do share a common driver from nVidia.
You need to ask yourself why are you doing this though? For most rigs, I would expect that with a single decent GTX video card already in place that the only speed gain would be for DVD renders. For most other work flows, other items in the PC would be the limiting resource (CPU power, drive speed, etc.). On the other hand, if you are constantly doing DVD exports for high-def media, then the increased number of cuda cores will make your world so much better.
See the following post regarding for my test results on a dual GTX Titan setup where adding a second video card doubled DVD exports, but left pretty much all others performance areas completely unchanged:

  • Dual GPU's

Is Aperture able to leverage any advantage from dual GPU's?
    quad G5   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Is Aperture able to leverage any advantage from dual
    GPU's?
I think Aperture would beenfit to some extent, because while CoreImage is using the GPU's so is the rest of the system. Also possibly it could split CoreImage work across both GPU's, do not know enough details about how Core Image uses the video cards to say for sure.
A stronger video card is always going to help out Aperture to some degree though.

  • Graphics Error AMD Radeon HD 7640G/7670M Dual GPU

    HI,
I am facing a problem with my HP Pavilion g6-2301ax Notebook PC with AMD Radeon HD 7640G/7670M Dual GPU (2 GB DDR3 dedicated) with Windows 8 64-bit. I haven't made any changes to the hardware/software nor have I connected any new hardwares.
I cannot watch Videos no matter what program I use, be it VLC, Media Player, etc. The programs simply crashes. It takes quite a considerable time to boot and Restart/Shut-Down, than before.  Here's a screenshot of the error message...
Also, the AMD Catalyst Control Centre keeps crashing...
Before, the Graphics Control Interface was totally different. The so called "Hydra Grid" wasn't there. The Control Menu had more options and the ability to customise. Since, it is a Dual GPU, there was an option whether to choose both or just one. This problem started like 2-3 days back.
I am really really frustrated. Because of this, my work is getting hampered a lot. Also, it doesn't read an external Hard Drive which has USB 3.0, even though the "safely remove icon" is shown at the task bar. And now, because of this I can't even Back-up my files on to the external hard drive in order to Recover or Restore it to Factory Settings.
    Somebody help me.
    Warm Regards,
    Zamyang.

I understand that you are unable to play videos regardless of what player you try.  You have not made any physical changes to your notebook or added any external hardware.
When you connected your External drive you get the safely remove icon but does not install the drive.
If you look in device manager does the external drive have any bangs or error on it.  Have you checked the manufacturers site for a driver for it?
If you check disk management does it have a drive letter assigned to it?
    Here is a link to
Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 8) that may to determine the cause.
You state  this happened  only 2 -3 days ago and you cannot do a restore as the external is not being seen correctly but you should be able to do a recovery back to factory.
Do you know in updates were automatically installed?
Here  is a link to Performing an HP system recovery (Windows 8)  that will guide you through the recovery process.

  • Premiere CS6 crashes after enabling GPU acceleration

is there a reason this would be happening? i'm running the Nvidia 680M.

I'm currently running 8.17.13.271. when i attempt to install the new driver (306.97) for the 680M i get 'could not find compatible hardware'
The GPU seems to run fine when i don't enable GPU acceleration. after i enable GPU acceleration in the nvidia control panel i get major problems. computer crashes on boot on premiere and after effects. It takes me about 2 hours to get it to boot out of safe mode after it crashes.

  • Premiere cs6, Retina MBP (late 13) cant access GPU CUDA

Premiere cs6, Retina MBP (late 13) cant access GPU CUDA
About a month ago I got the new Macbook Pro Retina 15-inch with the i7 and Nvidia GT 750M graphics card for work. It has 16gb RAM and a 500gb SSD. Im using it to edit on the go.
    PROBLEM:
Ive installed latest Premiere Update 6.0.5 and latest CUDA drivers from NVidia but when I check the renderer settings in Premiere 6 it only shows Mercury playpack in software mode only. Ive read up on last years model being fixed by a recent update by Adobe and thought this might have sorted this version out too. ive also disabled switching in Energy saver mode to ensure it only selects the high spec card but that appears to do nothing.
    Any support ideas welcome

  • I am trying to get better playback rendering speed Premiere CS6

I am new to Adobe Premiere CS6.  I am trying to get faster playback rendering speed from my machine.
    Windows 7
i7 4790K Haswell overclocked to 4.5 (watercooled with Corsair)
    16 GB DDR3@799MHz
Asus Z87-WS (4 double graphic card slots)
Geforce GTX 760 (Primary)  GPU hardware acceleration enabled
    Quadro FX5800
250GB Samsung solid state C: (Windows and Adobe)
    250GB Crucial solid state (Scratch)
    2TB Seagate 7200RPM (video files)
    3TB Seagate 7200RPM (storage)
    Seasonic 1000watt PSU
I am primarily editing GoPro videos with effects like TimeWarp or Twixtor and color correction.
I have tried to run the PPBM6 program with no success. I kept getting failure to access files.
I have been looking at adding a second GTX760 with SLI so they will work together.  And possible removing the Quadro if it is slowing things down.
Any advice would be appreciated.  Thanks!

...are you SURE your 760 GPU is "enabled" by PPro, and giving you the option of "Mercury Playback Acceleration" under  "General Preferences" ??? If the "Mercury Acceleration" is GREYED OUT and limits you to "software Only", go to Studio 1 website and learn to apply the well known "hack" to enable your 760 in PPro,OR, download their simple program to do it for you.
...Your machine is POWERFUL....especially with your CPU overclock......you MAY want to increase your memory to 32 GB if you are using After Effects....even PPro MAY run better with 32 GB, depending on your workflow.....most systems like yours have at LEAST 32GB system memory.
.....The GoPro codec is natively HIGHLY COMPRESSED and difficult to process, even for beefy machines. That is why they provide the free Cineform tool,( which used to be an expensive professional editing codec), to convert some,or,all of your footage to a more "edit friendly" AVI codec, which will FLY on your machine. HOWEVER, those new AVI files are HUGE.....TRIPLE the original size and requiring a LARGE and FAST disk transfer system. Right now, your single 7200 drive for your media is your SLOWEST component in the chain. The CHEAPEST improvement for you would be to add another MATCHING 2TB 7,200 rpm drive to your existing one and then use the 2 drives to create a fast RAID 0 directly off the mother board to improve the speed of your "media drive". THEN, you MUST insure that this RAID 0 is DILIGENTLY BACKED UP in case of a drive failure in the RAID. This ALSO means you must protect against an unexpected power failure which could destroy the RAID data if the failure happened during a critical write operation.....so,a good UPS is required.
You can OBSERVE how the various components in your system are performing while performing strenuous tasks by bringing up the "task manager" window and watching the CPU load.... if all cores are PEGGED at near 100%, you are "CPU bound". As you are ALREADY overclocked, you can't do anything other than to TRANSCODE your footage to the free Cineform. Your ENABLED GPU can be observed....real time....using the free MSI Afterburner,( or, similar).  Certain operations are accelerated by the GPU with PPro....not ALL!!  Scaling and some effects will use use the "Mercury Acceleration" while rendering previews AND during export. In some cases, rendering previews,or, exporting can be sped up by TEN TIMES by Mercury Acceleration. Watch the "GPU Usage" on Afterburner to see if the GPU is indeed being used, and if you are "saturating" it to its capacity of 100% with accelerated effects.
Make sure your Windows is fully updated to the current time........make sure your NVidia 760 has the most recent driver and DON'T use the Quadro for now. Set your "Windows page file" to be STATIC on your "C" drive at 24GB. Disable "Hibernation" Set all drives NOT to allow "indexing". Do NOT allow any spinning HDD to be over 50% filled....performance WILL decrease.....make sure any HDD is defragged,( do NOT defrag an SSD ! ). Stop all unnecessary processes, esp. anti-virus programs, while editing. Find out how to best "tune" windows to speed it up at the PPBM 6 and 7 websites.
BE AWARE that the "run of the mill" SSDs use cheaper Sandforce controllers, and are less suited to handle highly compressed digital video files. Samsung PRO models and recent Crucial M550 series SSDs ONLY are recommended for video use. Both these non-Sandforce SSDs maintain high WRITE speeds,( over 400MB/sec), AND maintain their high speeds after reaching their "steady state" condition. Cheaper EVO series and non-Marvell controlled SSDs MAY lose their fast write speeds over time and SLOW YOU WAY DOWN !!!  Test your current SSDs by transferring large video files between them  and watching MB per second that appears under "details" in the pop up window during transfer. Make sure none are slow.....test them with HD Tune Pro as well.
Certain non-Adobe plug-ins and certain effects may NOT use all the CPU threads well,or, may not use the GPU.....forcing the CPU to do additional work. You will have to identify problem plug-ins,or, effects by switching them on and off to see if any cripple your system.
Your machine is POWERFUL.....go to PPBM7 website and read the "tweakers" page to learn more....then, register for free and TEST your machine with their video benchmark test for PPro. It should do WELL.....AND it will help identify if you have any "bottlenecks" which are impairing your system.
Good Luck !!!!!.....THEN, start using CC 2014.....like Patton said : "...all glory is FLEETING !!"......so is the lifespan of former PPro versions !!!!!!

  • Laptop with Nvidia gt750m. Sufficient for real time playback in Premiere CS6?

I'm on the verge of buying a new laptop with the following specs:
    i7 4700MQ
    16GB RAM @ 1600 mhz
    1TB 7200 rpm drive
    120 GB SSD
    Nvidia GT750m GPU
    15.6 inch IPS display
I'm sure these specs will be more than sufficient for editing and grading Full HD DSLR clips in Premiere CS6. The only bottleneck in this system might be the GPU, which isn't all that great and has only GDDR3 memory.
Now I'm not planning to do any gaming on it, so I'm just wondering if this graphics card will be sufficient for realtime playback in Premiere after applying the hardware accelerated effects.
This is done solely by the GPU right? This card should be supported for hardware acceleration, but will it be powerful enough?
Unfortunately, there is no other setup possible in this price range that has a better GPU and still has a IPS screen.
Anyone has any experience with this card and the Mercury playback engine?
    Thanks!

    Looks OK.

  • Missing renderer error in Premiere CS6 plus three more errors

    I just tried to open a saved project and now get a Missing renderer error in Premiere CS6;
"This project was last used with Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (CUDA), which is not available on this system. Mercury Playback Engine Software Only will be used"
I then click OK and get a new errror:
The preset used by one or more sequneces in this project requires third party components that could not be located. These sequences will be modified to use a custom sequence setting instead ...."
I then click OK and get the error:
"Adobe Preniere Pro CS6 has stopped working"
This is the same computer thta created the project and nothing physical has cahnged. I reboot try to create a new project and get the error:
"Sorry a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premier Pro to shut down. We will attempt to save your current project"
I cant do anything with premiere CS6 at all.
    HELP!

The first two can be solved pretty easy, but won't help much in light of the third.  We need to solve that one first.  Once you get PP to open and remain open with a new project and new sequence, then we can fix the first two.  So...

  • Will my graphics card ATI Radeon HD 5000 1024 MB give me the power/speed benefits of Premiere cs6

will my graphics card ATI Radeon HD 5000 1024 MB give me the power/speed benefits of Premiere cs6??

As cc_merchant implied, Premiere Pro CS6 does not support OpenCL at all (in the Windows versions of Premiere) for MPE GPU acceleration. Your system with such a GPU would perform more or less equal to a system that has no discrete GPU at all (one that relies solely on an integrated graphics solution on the CPU or motherboard) because the MPE is permanently locked to the software-only mode. If you do see any tangible increase in the response of your current setup as compared to an otherwise identical system without a discrete GPU at all, it's because your system leaves more system RAM available for Premiere to work with.

  • Latest nVidia 310.90 drivers issues with Premiere CS6

    Hey guys,
I'm currently running the GTX590 with 306.97 drivers and any later drivers have proven to not work with Premiere CS6.
I understand Premiere has issues with SLI and can only utilize a single GPU, but if I update  the drivers to anything later than 306.97, my preview window goes blank during playback. Audio is working and After Effects preview works just fine, but Premiere has issues with displaying video during playback.
The main reason I wanted to update  the nVidia drivers is for better gameplay, but seeing that i cannot edit in Premiere because of that, i have reverted back to 306.97.
Does anyone have suggestions with regards to getting the latest drivers to work with Premiere CS6?
    Thanks!

They work fine for me on Win 8.  But I don't have SLI.

  • Premiere CS6 up to its old tactics

It's been a while gents. Anyway, Premiere CS6 seemed to have adopted it's old habit of constantly crashing- but this time only on exports. I've exported a plethora of material and formats, and nearly every time it hangs during encoding (with error message)- whither direct export or AME. This is being encoded on a ADK machine (GTX670 card). I reset my prefs to no avail.
Here are the latest error messages from the event log:

What should be done? Seeing the reference to cuda, is the GeForce to blame?

You have a problem with your Nvidia graphics card. (Faulting module name: nvcuda.dll)
The Adobe Mercury Playback Engine can massively speedup rendering in GPU (CUDA) mode.
BUT: You need a stable GPU configuration for that.
Adobe has certified some graphics cards for the MPE but the GTX 670 isn't one of them.
I have too a GTX 670 running fine - so it can work.
--> If you want to be on the save route install a Adobe certified graphics card.
--> If you want to use your existing NOT CERTIFIED GTX 670 card you have to check your config - card manufacturer - something is crashing Premiere in GPU mode currently...

  • Canon XF Import Causes Premiere CS6 to Crash.  Help!

I purchased a Canon XF300 to work specifically with Premiere CS6 as Adobe claims native support for MXF files.
Unfortunately, whenever I import footage from the XF300 into Premiere, it causes Premiere to crash.
This happens no matter what method I use to import the files... using XF Ultility, using Prelude, clicking on import in the Premiere CS6 media browser, opening the files in the media browser and dragging and dropping into a bin.  It doesn't matter.  The crash still happens.
This is not an issue with spanned clips as it happens even without spanned clips.
After importing the clips into a bin, the bin has trouble drawing thumbnails for all the clips, usually but not always the ones not initially visible in the bin window.  The thumbnails don't appear, just gray boxes.  Scrolling down and clicking on the gray boxes, even after waiting several minutes for the system to "catch up," causes a crash.
This is a repeatable problem that *only* happens when using Canon MXF footage.  Every other codec I've tried works just fine.  The Canon footage never works.
I am on a Mid-2012 Mac Pro 2x 3.06 GHz 6-Core Inten Xeon computer running 64GB of Ram on OSX 10.8.3, using Premiere 6.0.2 Creative Cloud.  I use a Matrox MX02 for I/O and a NVIDIA Quadro 4000 with CUDA Driver 5.0.59.
I've troubleshot this problem to death, stripping everything from the machine down to its original factory state (no extra RAM, no NVIDIA card, no Matrox I/O etc.) and the system still crashes every single time I try to import the MXF footage, no matter what method I use.  The only workaround is to transcode to ProRes and that's not acceptable.
Am I the only one having this issue?  Is there something glaringly obvious I'm overlooking?  Thanks in advance for any assistance or perspective.  I am growing increasingly frustrated as I feel Adobe has a software problem here they're not addressing.

That's the thing.  The system drive has plenty of space... 762Gb out of 1TB available.  All the HDs have a ton of space on them.  This has happened since Day 1 when the entire system was brand new.
And only with Canon XF files.  No other codec produces behavior even remotely similar on my system.  It's baffling because everyhting is up to spec as far as I can determine and yet the problem persists.
Limiting the number of clips in a bin is unworkable because of the type of work I'm doing.  Transcoding is the only answer at this point but I really would like to know what's causing this.
I really wish Adobe could try to recreate the problem.  Does anyone else out there using Mac OSX and CS6 have trouble with XF files?  Is it a known issue?
