Page 2-15 of above mentioned document, pp. 2.5.4 states that
'/etc/hosts.* has the following format:
IP_ADDRESS FULLY_QUALIFIED_HOSTNAME SHORT_HOSTNAME ALIASES'
Question: would the next line in the /etc/hosts file be correct:
182.124.20.10 7abcdef.buggy.com 7abcdef
If not, what is wrong?

I hardly think you can blame Oracle for this.
Its actually your hostname selection that is not a valid one, I found this in RFC1035:

The labels must follow the rules for ARPANET host names. They must
start with a letter, end with a letter or digit, and have as interior
characters only letters, digits, and hyphen. There are also some
restrictions on the length. Labels must be 63 characters or less.

So to answer your question:
No, a hostname can not start with a digit.

If you're able to contact the previous owner, send them this link and tell them to follow the instructions.
If not, you can't activate the device but may be able to get it refunded.
Apple won't remove the lock for anyone other than the original owner(assuming they're alive.)

When I ran Lr 5 I was able to right click on a raw file and have it open in Lr. Upgraded to LR 6 and now longer have the option to open with Lr. Is there something I need to turn on Pc set up
This is actually based on how the site handles different file types; Hotmail gives it to the browser as "application/octet-stream" or something like it, whereas sites that properly open it in the browser tag it as "application/pdf". Unfortunately there's nothing you can do about this without setting up a proxy to rewrite the HTTP headers. Complaints to Hotmail in the past haven't worked, and it's not possible to override the behavior in Firefox.

I just installed OS X Yosemite on my MacBook. I now cannot get the computer to start up. If I hold down the power button to try and power it back up, it will not start. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility and press the Continue button. After Disk Utility loads select the Macintosh HD entry from the the left side list. Click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If Disk Utility reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit Disk Utility and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Download and install the OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 Combo Update.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

I no longer have the iTunes that is synced to my iPhone and now I need to update my iPhone with iTunes. Is there a way I can do this without losing all my data? Can I access my iTunes that is on my stolen laptop, so that I don't lose my info and photos etc? Please help!

I have two questions...
1) If I do a clean install on my MacBook Pro will I be able to re-install apps (FCP, Aperture, MS Office etc.) from a Time Machine backup, or will I need the original install DVDs with authorization codes? (because I don't have them)
2) Has anyone ever seen anything like this before on their computers?
The Apple Genius' were stumped by my laptop issues and said they'd never seen anything like it before and recommended I did a clean install. Below you can see my trash bin, and if you look at the "Empty" button it reads "N201" and then there's the "N39" to the left of it. You can also see these numbers over by the folder area--"SD5, SD6, SD7." But that's not all...
When I right click on items I see the numbers again. Instead of "Open with" I get "N152" and there's an "N35" and "LB1" towards the bottom.
I have no idea what's going on so I'm just going to do a clean install on my machine but I don't want to lose my apps. I don't have the original install DVDs for them anymore. Is there any where that I can voice why I returned my beloved new Ipad? I was told I could move my Keynote presentations to it and then use it for my
business presentations. Unfortunately that turned out to not be true. I need the IPad to work with a remote.
The Ipad is on a short cable to my projector. I am usually on a podium 30 feet away. No infra red receiver on the IPad and
the Iphone remote needs wi fi which is not always available in all the locations I do my teaching and lecturing in.

How to get name of class that the JVM was started with ?
Assume I have class foo with the standard main method.
I also have classes ding and dong, they extend foo.
The JVM is started with either ding or dong as the 'main' class. Since neither ding nor dong directly implement main, the actual main method being executed is foo's.
In the main method of foo I want to construct an instance of either ding or dong, depending on which the JVM was started with. Since I'm in a static context, I can't do anything with 'this'. Is there another way to get the name of the 'main' class from the JVM so that I can construct an instance of it ?The idea behind all of this is that the developer of
Ding and Dong should not have to know anything about
foo, in particular it's constructors. But if Ding and Dong are subclasses of Foo, then developers must know about Foo. If you expect developers to extend a framework without having a well-defined interface to that framework, you are probably heading for trouble.
To be able to
privatize the constructors, construction of the
concrete class has to take place in foo.If Ding and Dong are subclasses of Foo, then you can not make all of Foo's constructors private.
Of course I could have a method in Ding and Dong that
calls a static method in foo into which the Ding and
Dong instance pass their class, but then I'd have
identical implementations of this method in Ding and
Dong. Yes you would (well, not identical, but very similar). Like I said, you could do this programmatically with AOP, or you could probably do it dirtily using stack traces (though with it being a single hit at startup, you might not consider it being quite so dirty).
But: the point of inheritance is that common
functionality goes into superclasses. I disagree. The important thing about inheritance is that classes share an interface, and that methods can be polymorphically inherited, allowing new functionality to be 'plugged in' in the future, and even at runtime.
Also, in
general one wouldn't make methods static if a class
reference is needed (or one would make it an
argument), but Sun didn't consult me when they
designed the main method :-(I still don't see why you need to do what you want to do. It appears that all you are after is the ability to start your program using a command line like
java com.mypackage.Ding
instead of
java com.mypackage.Foo com.mypackage.Ding
or
java com.mypackage.Foo Ding.properties
or something else along these lines.
Since you must know the name of the class you want to use at the time you want to use it, why can't you just pass the name as an argument, or start up using some properties file, or a shell script? -
I have an iBook on itunes and I am trying to upload a new version of the book. I am following the workflow through iBooks Author and when I fell out all of the infromation for the package on iTunes producer i then hit the deliver button and I get the following error message:
The package name The Gallbladder-4.itmsp contains an invalid character(s). The valid characters are: A-Z, a-z, 0-9, dash, period, underscore, but the name cannot start with a dash, period, or underscore.
As far as I can tell the file that is being referenced does not meet the criteria axpressed in the erro message and in fact that file has been created by iBooks Author so one would think there shouldnt be an error.
I also get the following to error messages:
Apple's web service operation was not successful
Unable to authenticate the package: The Gallbladder-4.itmsp
Would ove any help.

when i try to download the software onto my mac, i receive a message saying that safari cannot open the specified address as OS X does not recognise the internet address starting with "aam". Please please can someone shed some light on this, its driving me MAD!!!

Trying to install Elements 13 and it asks for a serial number. The instructions say the number should start with 1057 but there is no code on the disks, box or envelopes the disks came in that start with 1057. I cannot activate the software without this code and it is a Christmas gift to my wife. HELP!
I had this problem. There are actually two boxes. The outside one with the photos and stuff and glued into it is another box containing the disks. That box has the serial number. Adobe was NO help with this as if no one else ever could not find it. I had to rip open the outer box.

For an already started database, is there a way to know the database was started with which pfile/spfile? Is there a view that tells this for example.

pfile with the name convention of
init<ORACLE_SID>.ora.Yes, you can, but that won't tell you anything about which pfile was used to start the instance. I can just as easily type:
startup pfile=/my/pfile/that/does/not/conform/to/any/naming/standard
There's no way to definitively determine which pfile was used to start an instance.

If the contacts on the old phone were synced to a mail account or iCloud account, then they will be easy to recover. Just sign into your iCloud account on the new phone (Settings > iCloud) and then enable the 'Contacts' option. If the contacts were stored in your iCloud account, they will now appear on the phone.
If the contacts were stored in a mail account such as Gmail, Yahoo, etc, then add that mail account to the phone in Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account. Then make sure the 'Contacts' option is enabled here as well.
If that still doesn't work you may need to try to recover them from an iCloud or iTunes backup of the old phone -- do you have one of those? -
I found an iphone over one year ago. Its locked with a passcode. I kept waiting for the owner to call it. They never did. I went to an AT&T store today, they put a new sim card in it. and told me to go home, log on to itunes, and restore the phone to "factory settings".But itunes says the phone is locked and it needs the passcode to reset it to factory settings.
Any workaround? Or, am I doing something wrong here?
