Dumb question: I have CS5. Can I install CS3?

I have all the CS suites from #1 on up. Yay!
But up until CS5, I've taken OFF the previous suite, and installed the newest one.
And now I have a client that needs to work w/ CS3 files. I'm assuming I can just install my disks and everything will be okey dokey?
I'm also hoping to use the Nikon Scan 4 plugin (because Nikon, in their infinite wisdom, are refusing to update the standalone past PPC).
I'm on 10.7 Lion by the way.
Thanks. Hopefully an easy question

The recommended way is to install the Creative Suite versions in release order: CS3, CS4, CS5. If you reverse order, like to install CS3 with CS5 already installed, you take the chance of screwing up your CS5 installation.
First choice would be to install CS3 on another partition of your hard drive or another computer. If that's not possible, I'd uninstall CS5, then install CS3, then reinstall CS5.

I erased my HD and could not install lion. if I turn on the mac now all I see is a folder with a question-mark. How can I install a new operation system?

Install or Reinstall Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
      1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
      2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Can i install CS3 Indesign and Photoshop on mac OSX10.8.4?

Can i install CS3 Indesign and Photoshop on mac OSX10.8.4? Or do I have to update and can I purchase updates from Adobe? If I can, how much are they?

    Yes, should be no problem.
According to the box that came with my copy of CS3 the requirements are "PowerPC G4 or G5 or multicore Intel processor, Mac OSX 10.4.8 or above.
I loaded it onto my new Mac running Mountain Lion with no problems at all and it runs perfectly. InDesign used to crash occasionally under Tiger but has never crashed under Mountain Lion.

  • I have CS5 and I installed it on my new laptop, now it won't upgrade

I have CS5 and have been using it for a while. I just got a new laptop and I've installed the Production Premium bundle on the laptop. It wants me to update it. I keep getting an error. When I followed the contact customer service link, it took me to this page: Error "This serial number is not for a qualifying product" | CS6, CS5.5, CS5.
    How do I fix this?

I too am having this issue. I deactivated on my old hard drive, replaced it with a new one, installed without a hitch and now that I'm trying to update I'm having the same problem. It downloads the update and then brings me to the same 'serial number' support page. It seems like there isn't any official support from Adobe on this as I was railroaded in to the forum as my only support option for CS5, hopefully someone out there has the answer...
Edit- I used the online Chat feature and it was not much help, I was directed to the 1-800 number to resolve this and when choosing Creative Suite as the program the automated attendant simply states 'this product does not qualify for telephone support' or some such. I'm back on with Chat waiting to see if they're actually able to help this time. In the mean time you can download the updates manually from Product updates.
Edit 2- Second Chat session pretty much confirmed that they're not going to fix this issue as support for CS5 is non-existent at this point.

  • CS3 to CS5 upgrade - can't install CS3 on new mac first

I originally purchased CS3 years ago, then upgraded to CS5. Today, I purchased a new Mac OS X 10.10 and it says I need to first install the CS3 and then go through the upgrade again. Problem is that it will not install CS3 because it is not supported on the new operating system. So what to do?

There is no need to re-install CS3.
All installers (full and upgrades) contain the full program code. The serial number tells the installer if it's a full version or an upgrade.
Just install CS5, enter the CS5 upgrade serial number then the CS3 serial number when prompted.

  • Can't install CS3 from discs on my iMac

With the "application" disc in the computer, it will start running the install.  Then it stops, spits out the CD and asks for the Adobe ExtendScript Toolkit 2 disc.  Where is that?  Be nice if the discs were labeled plainly!
I went online, found that application, downloaded it, burned a disc and tried installing again.
Once again, it stops and asks for the Toolkit, but when I put in my burned disc it tells me that I can't install two things at the same time.
I'm going quite nuts.  I need to be able to run the programs that I PAID FOR but CAN'T INSTALL.  Help me please!!!!

don't burn a disk. just install from the installation files like they were designed to be used.

  • Can't install CS3 on Windows 7

I know there's a similar discussion in this section, but I'm having slightly different issues with my version. I'm not sure if this makes a difference, but I bought my copy of CS3 (Design Premium) used via Amazon.
There are a couple different things going on. First, while I understand that this software takes up a lot of space and will require some time to install, mine is taking an exceedingly long time. I've left the computer running for hours - as in 5 or 6 or more. The place it gets stuck is the installation progress window - those progress bars do not move the entire time, and I also notice the disk drive stops making noise, so absolutely nothing gets installed and no progress toward installation happens.
Also, I did have CS3 on the computer previously as a trial version (I did not enter a serial number) and uninstalled it once the trial ended, so I still have the downloaded setup/installer and I tried using that, assuming I can just enter the serial number included in the purchased version. I get told the serial number is invalid...though that may be because the previous version was the full suite and I just kept a couple programs. When I installed CS3 that last time, I don't even think it took an hour to install (I only installed Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, and Flash). So I have no clue why it won't install now. Note I uninstalled the old version before trying to install the new one, mostly because I couldn't run any of the programs.
I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. The computer is not very old - only about 4 months old, no viruses, not used much, so there shouldn't be anything going on to interfere with installation. Also, I did get CS3 for Windows, so the OS is not the issue either. Is the fact that my version is pre-owned a potential cause for problems? Like maybe the previous owner never deactivated the software before selling it? Are the previous version and current version somehow conflicting with one another despite uinstalling?

Run the Creative Suite Cleaner Tool, try again. and if you bought it used, you will have to run a Transfer an Adobe product license to handle activations properly.

  • Can't install CS3

    Hi everyone,
I purchased and downloaded CS3 ( Windows ) earlier in the
    week.
I tried to install it, but I get this error: ( link to view
    image ! )
    http://www.dj-software.com.au/dw_cs3_error.jpg
I looked for any installation error logs, but I can find
nothing that gives me any more information.
I do have Fireworks 9 beta installed, and I'm wondering if
    that is causing the problem.
So since then I have done the following:
    1. Went to un-install Fireworks beta 9 under add remove
programs but I just get an error.
    2. Move the fireworks 9 folder to another drive.
    3. Ran Registry Mechanic to clean up the mess left by moving
    this folder manually.
    4. Installed again - same error.
    5. Un-installed and re-installed on my E: drive ( internal
second hard drive ) - same error.
Have confirmed that the download is OK as it installs OK on
    my notebook.
Having paid an absurd price in Australia for the upgrade
compared to the US price, you can imagine I'm annoyed, as I
    e-mailed Australian support ( as instructed ) 24 hours ago ( across
our normal office hours ) and have had no reply.
If anyone has any ideas I would very much appreciate it.

Could very well be. Have you contacted anyone from the beta
    program about
    the issue?
This may help: "If you are a beta user, you must first
    uninstall all CS3
beta programs on your machine before installing the shipping
    versions". You

  • Can't Install CS3 on WinXP 32bit

My second hard drive crashed where the main CS3 files were and everytime I try and reinstall I get an error in the installation program.
Internet Explorer Script Error - Exception thrown and not caught in URL C:/program files/adobe/installers/..etc../scripts/utils.js
I have tried rolling back Java to an earlier version, done all IE8 updates, tried manually erasing registry info for adobe products.
Please help I don't really want to reinstall windows to install CS3 again.

    Hi,
I also have problem installing CS3 Desin Premium on WinXP SP3, 32 bit. I tried it 4 times (!) and still got the same result: Shared components, Version Cue and Acrobat Pro are installed. But Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign can't be installed. I have no idea why it doesn't work this time.
I was forced to change HDD (technical reasons) and reinstall OS. On the old HDD CS3 worked fine.
I also tried the Clean-up utility you mentioned, but there were missing some Windows unistaller components, so it didn't work.
Do you have any clue? Thanks in advance.

  • Can't Install CS3 Extended from the Installation CD

System: PC and Windows Vista Home Premium.
    Problem:
Due to a conflict with Album DS I had to uninstall and reinstall CS Extended. However, when trying to re-install CS3 Extended:
    Background/Attempts to fix:
    - I can not launch the installation process from the program CD.
    - Nor can I explore the CD. It appears as if there are NO files on it but it uses 721MB.
    - Installation has no problem initiating on an XP laptop.
    - I just installed Turbo tax on the Vista PC in the same drive so its not the drive.
    - Right clicking on the Rom Drive in Windows Explorer gets me as far as the installation start screen. BUT when I click on this install button I get Specified file not found
    HELP!

I spent over an hour with Adobe Support to no avail. Tried:
    - different,external Rom Drive
    - tried a SECOND install DVD I received from Adobe last(and first)
time I tried to install CS3
    - a "modified start up" installation (disabled a bunch of things),
    - installing under a new account
    None of this worked.
What DID work was to copy the content of the install DVD onto my laptop then to a flash drive then onto my Vista system drive and install from there. I didn't even have to re-enter my serial number for some reason.
I never resolved the issue but I am now using CS3 again. Ouch.

  • After Upgrade to CS4 ... Can I Install CS3 on Different Computer

Here is a licensing question ...
I deactivated CS3 on an older Mac and did a clean install of a CS4 upgrade to a new Mac (I just used the CS3 serial number to validate the upgrade). So, now I'm wondering if the CS license would allow me to legally install the old CS3 on a different computer? I know I can legally install it on the same computer, but what about a different computer?

The CS4 license replaces the CS3 license. Legally, they're tied together.

  • Can I install CS3 on a new Mac without migration?

My old G4 Mac that was running an educational version of the CS3 suite died (power supply failure) and I now have a much newer machine. Can I install the CS3 suite on this new Mac (without going through migration assistant)? I will only be using CS3 on the new machine. Will I be able to make the switch and have my educational license still work? Thanks!

While Bob's answer is the easiest, the other answer is to take the hard drive out of the old machine, but it in an enclosure connect it to the new machine with a usb drive. Install a new copy of the OS (try upgrade first if that doesn't work you can try an archive and install) onto the extrenal hard_drive, the try booting from the old hard drive on the new machine. Then deactivate. Of course you could try to migrate the application to the new machine, but that can introduce what is known as a World of Hurt©.
But the easiest way to do it is Bob's method. You can use the hard drive/enclosue method if you need to get the data off the hard drive in case you belong to the majority that do not back up their data.

  • Can't Install CS3 Trial...

When I go to install a CS3 trial that came with my new tablet, it tells me:
'You can only install one Adobe product at a time. Please complete the other installation before attempting to install Adobe setup'
The only other adobeproducts currently on the computer are flash player and reader. There was Adobe PSE 6 up untill two days ago, but that was cleanly uninstalled.
What do i do to install it? Help is appreciated!

Ok, Dave Evanson: I am going to install the trial simply becuase it came with my tablet. I am trying it out before I buy this copy of CS3 my dads work friend bought but didn't use. I dont have any need for the 'updated' CS4.
Mylenium: There was no msiexec.exe anywhere. So I have no idea why it is doing that. As for user privilages, if you mean users on the copmuter, we are the only one, and I think its the 'administrator' one (at least, thats what the guy in the pc shop said).
