Dumb question....presentation layer "read / write" permission

Hi, I'm curious to understand what exactly happens when you grant users "read / write" permissions on presentation layer objects? "Read" is self-explanatory...but what exactly does the "write" allow them to do?
Thanks!
Scott

Hi Scott,
Yeah agree with you. Deepika's answers makes more scense.

Thanks for your advice, I've recently got a new raid
hard drive system and this is the first time I've
used it for my logic projects. I have the permission
to read and write to the drive although I'm not the
owner, do you think this may be the problem?
    Hi Mark,
    You are very welcome.
I am pretty sure it's related to permissions or your new drive. I had similar issues. What is your drive named? I ask, as when my mac was shipped from factory it had two drives identically named. This caused similar issues until I renamed the second drive.
It shouldn't matter that you are not the owner as long as you have permission to read and write to the drive ... I think. Anyone else ... ?
Anyway ... next question ... check the name of the new drive.
    Cheers

    Hi,
Please try to setting Folder Permissions on Web Publish, and then deploy it with Web Deploy, as far as I know, if we do that, Web Deploy will use the SetAcl operation to change permissions. Please have a look at the article below.

  • Question on SNMP Read-Write String ...

    Hi,
My question is that if I am using an SNMP read-write community string on the device, would Prime LMS still require
the logging credentials of the device via ie) telnet/ssh ?
The reason how I undertand this as long as the SNMP manager (Prime LMS) and the agent (end device) have the same read-write community,
couldn't the Prime LMS just write to the device without the standard logging credentials ? or is the logging credential of the device is a must for it
to push configuration to the device ?
    Pls advise.
    Many thanks.
    Cheers,
    - sn -

Even though the SNMP communication is there between device and LMS, it is not possible to configure any device using SNMP, except for the RW variable and OIDs, which are limited in their scope.
It is not possible to configure, but to copy configuration to or from device using SNMP. See the following document to check further:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk648/tk362/technologies_configuration_example09186a0080094aa6.shtml
Many people use this manual process to copy configuration from device using SNMP, edit it and copy back to device to make configuration changes, but ideally no NMS server does it and LMS is no exception.
It uses transport Layer protocols like telnet/ssh to communicate with device like a normal user to configure commands, which in this case is done by Netconfig job.

  • How do i change read/write permission on an external hard drive?

how do i change read/write permissions for an external hard drive?

If, on the otherhand, you are trying to write to a drive that is formatted NTFS (for Windows), and can't.
    You have two choices...
    1. Reformat the drive. Either Mac OS format, if you are using this only on your Mac. Or ExFAT, or FAT 32 if you intend to use it on both a Mac OS computer and a Windows unit. note: ExFAT is not suported by XP.
    2. Install one of the drivers necessary for the Mac to write to a NTFS volume. Unless you want the experience of having the support for this being one that is sporadic, avoid this. I used to be a strong proponent of NTFS-3G, until I started having the problems with Lion, that many users warned us about. Go this route only if you find you must use NTFS on your drive. Paragon and Tuxtera are the sources for these.

  • Unknown user with read write permission

Who is wheel in user permissions

I had tried to ask the same question earlier. I decided that what she probably did was click on the minus sign in the HD Get Info window:
I tried this on an external Lion clone volume, and the result looked like this in Get Info:
However, the only thing that actually changed was the permissions - wheel itself was still the group owner, but was now "no access".
    before:
    drwxr-xr-x  43 root  wheel  1530 Feb 23 13:33 /Volumes/Lac5 Lion 1
    after:
    drwx---r-x  43 root  wheel  1530 Feb 23 13:33 /Volumes/Lac5 Lion 1
This should not cause a user to lose access to the HD, though, so I wondered if she had also set "everyone" to "No Access" in Get Info. This would lock you out.

  • Changing read/write permissions recursively on folders

I moved a folder of images for a website that I was working on from my laptop to my desktop computer. It arrived there with the folder and all subfolders locked. The folders are three levels deep as it was organized as the pages on the site are organized. I tried unlocking and giving myself read/write permission on the root folder, but it doesn't unlock the subfolders. I have been having to unlock and change the permission on each one. Is there any way to do this to all the folders at once? Someone else needs to use the laptop so going back isn't an option at present.
    Mary

Use Get Info and set the desired permissions, then select Apply to Enclosed Items from the tool drop down menu at the bottom of the Get Info window.
If that doesn't work you can use the Terminal application in your Utilities folder. At the prompt enter:
    sudo chown -R username:username
place a space at the end of the above line then drag the folder you want to change to the command line. Press RETURN. You will be asked to enter your admin password which will not be echoed.

  • Read/write permissions error message

    Hello everybody,
I have recently upgraded to Logic Studio from LE8. Now, I am into manual reading and all that stuff, but there are a couple of issues that confuse me at the moment.
    1) I am not able to edit an audio file that I created by recording an external instrument using Logic. When I try to use Factory functions in Sample Editor these appear to be faded.
    2) The following message appears when I try to refresh audio file information in Audio Bin:
"The read/write permission of only one access path to a file can allow writing
    Result code = -49
    File = <filename>"
PS: I haven't had these issues when using LE8.

Ok, I fixed both issues by applying the same privileges to the folder (and its contents) where my Logic projects are, including LE projects. Just right-clicked the folder name, selected "Get Info" -> "Sharing & Permissions" -> defined permissions -> selected "Apply to enclosed items" from the drop menu at the bottom of the Info window.

  • Spaces getting trimmed in presentation layer

    Hi,
I am observing that the trailing spaces for the values of a field in the Physical layer are getting trimmed when I am using that field from presentation layer in Prompt/Report. For example, if the value is *'abcd '* in Physical layer, it is becoming *'abcd'* in presentation layer. Is this default behavior of OBIEE and can I change this so that the values will be picked as it is from Physical layer ?
I am using OBIEE 10.1.3.4.1 and the datatype of the field in Physical layer as well as database (Teradata) is char(40).

I think I could not clarify my concern. Apologies for that. We do not have any formatting issue. We are using the field in a Prompt with operator as 'is equal to/is in'. So when the query gets formed, the where clause is coming as -
    field _name = 'abcd'
whereas we want it to be
    field_name = 'abcd '
Because in the database our value is 'abcd ',as the datatype is char.
We could find a resolution to use 'Contains any' operator instead. But there are hundreds of reports using this field in prompt. Also there is some reason the application do not want to change the datatype in databse to varchar. I needed to know if somehow we can retain the blank spaces in presentation layer.

  • Read/write access for mac mini server

I am having issues that users on my network have read/write permission, but if one saves a file to the network others can't open the file until I go to the mac mini to reset and allow all users to have these permissions again.  How can I set this so that I am not going to the server anytime a user creates a new file.

Sounds like you are not using ACLs.  When you set up your shares, there are three permission sets by default.  They are the owner, the group, and other.  These are the POSIX permissions and they do not inherit.  You need to edit your share and add at least one more permission entry.  This one will be your ACL (Access Control List).  Use a group and set the group to the permission you want, likely read/write.
Now once this is done, you will need to propagate these permissions through the existing files.  To do this, you need to open Server.app > choose your server from the left sidebar > select the Storage tab > drill down to your shared folder > use the Gear menu to use propagate.  Then send all the ACLs through all your files.
Unmount all shares on workstations and connect again.

  • Read/Write vs Full Control on KM folders/files

I've read some docs on what Read/Write vs Full Control permissions mean when setting permissions for users/groups for folders and files. But I'm still somewhat confused.
What exactly does the 'Write' mean in Read/Write. Does Write mean a user can:
    Create a new folder
    Create a new file
    Modify an existing file
    Delete a file
    Delete a folder
When you use the pull down for setting permissions, you see: Full Control, Read/Write, Read, Write and Delete. Kind of confusing. And you can only select one of them.
Any clarification on these permissions would be greatly appreciated. Or pointing me to some good documentation.
    Thanks in advance. Ron

    Access authorizations
    Read
    Permission to display items.
    Write
Permission to change items but not to display them.
In folders, this permission also allows users to create items.
    Read/Write
Permission to display and change items.
In folders, this permission also allows users to create items.
    Delete
To delete an item, you require delete permission (or full control) for this item and write permission for the superordinate folder.
    Full Control
This permission contains all other permissions.

  • Is there a way to read/write original .xmp settings of a CR2 loaded as smart object onto a .psd layer?

Hello all. This has been asked in varying degrees before, but many of the discussions I found relative to my question are from the period 2010 to 2013. Thought I would throw this out there again medio 2014 to see if anything new has developed that I'm somehow missing.
    Here's the situation:
    1. In the filesystem, a CR2 file and a sidecar .xmp file with ACR settings applied via Bridge (CS6).
    2. CR2 file is opened in Photoshop (CS6) as a smart object (.xmp sidecar settings are applied in the process).
    3. CR2 file and .xmp now exist on a .psd layer as a smart object...in some unknown form.
    4. File is saved as .psd
    My question is this:
Is there ANY way at all via Bridge and/or Photoshop scripting to read/write/access/touch/poke/prod the original ACR "development" settings, originally stored in the .xmp sidecar file, that apparently now exist in some form on the smart object layer in the .psd? Via scripting in Bridge, one can alter the metadata on this saved .psd file, no problem, but this is not the same .xmp data that is being referenced by the image loaded as a smart object onto the .psd layer in that file. Where is this second set of data? Can it be accessed?
Any info, enlightenment would be much appreciated. Thanks.

    No, not too late.
InDesign is for layout for press in this case.
Photoshop is for design, which is using the .jpg's.
I'm half way there, but stuck at:
Getting a file location reference when the .jpg is first brought into PS as a layer.
Getting a script to write the location of the file into the medata for the PSD in some field
Reading back the metadata file location for the .jpg and bringing it back into the PSD again.
Any help would really be appreciated.
I can make the completed script(s) available when its complete, as this has possibilities for other uses, batch process, and more.
