Dummy Question...

Hi,
Maybe my question may sound dummy , but as a mac first time mac user im desperate.
I bought a new memory dimm for my iMac, Im sure that Im using the correct model. Everything was working fine until the OS started to bring some problems and crashes. Then I runned the Hardware Diagnostic Tool that came with my OSX panther, and memory problems arised. I decided to open the Mac and reinstall the memory. And didnt work.
The weird thing is that I disconnected the computer from the power supply for a couple of days until I reunite enough money to buy a new memory, and decided to turn on the computer and retest it. But now the computer does not turn on, with or without memory.
So my question is: ¿Does iMac G5 turn without memory, or Im experiencing other issue...? I know some PC turn on without memory and the BIOS tells you that you have no memory, but my iMac does not start at all, even the fans are dead.
I want to know that before buying more memory.
Thanks in Advance
iMac G5 Power PC 1.8   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

when you say "operate", do you mean "won't turn on".
Sorry, the english is not my native language.
P.D. thaks for your response.

Please , help me get through the following:
In the licensing manner do I need to be on Oracle Enterprise Edition to use the Tuning Pack? when you're on standard Edition?
    My answer is no.
But my boss insist if I'm sure, that's why I need other eyes to confim my assertion.
    Thanks enough

    Hi Justin,
Plz excuse me if I am wrong, but aren't there command
line scripts designed to be run from within sqlplus
that provide the same reports as using the AWR (GUI)
interface? Such as awrrpt.sql, awrinfo.sql, and
ashrpt.sql? Are these restricted only for use with
EE, or can they be used (legally) with SE?As has been made clear, you touch it, you buy it. And they are watching.
I haven't tried the scripts, but if you google for oracle s-ash [correction: "s-ash" with the quotes] there is a very interesting simulated ash which doesn't violate anything as far as I know.

As for the comment regarding buying a car and not
being able to exceed certain speeds: T his is
becoming more popular, even with hardware. Some
vendors (such as HP) will sell you a server loaded
with CPUs, but you are only allowed to configure the
number of CPUs that you purchased and pay support on.Heck, even some cars are sold for different prices. A few years ago, certain cars were made from the same parts on the same assembly line by the same people (just minor interior fabric differences and stinking badges), and people were convinced the Toyotas were better than the Chevrolets.
Now the licensing is sometimes based on sockets, not whether there is anything in the sockets!
Ask a dummy question, the answer may be insane.

  • Apple newbie with dummy question

I have a question about my 3 day old Core Duo. I'm connecting just fine and love my machine, but before I go paying bills/banking/etc online, I want to make sure my connection is secure. I'm connecting wirelessly via a Lynksis WRT54G router. The very first time I turned this bad-boy on, it asked for a password to the network, but hasn't since. I'm afraid I may have "keychained" the password or opened the network to everyone or something. Is there a way to check? I chatted with an agent, and they said since it was a third party thing (Lynksis), they couldn't answer. All I want to make sure of, is that my connection is secure with either WPA/WEP. I don't even know what that means, I just know it makes it secure! Again - first time Apple user (unless you count my Dad's IIC when I was 8) - so please assume I'm a dummy when you reply!
    Thanks,
    Matt

    Hello Matt
Goto your router's config at http://192.168.1.1 the default user is admin and the password is admin
goto the wireless tab then wireless security. Make sure your using WPA-PSK and NOT WEP.
WEP is easily cracked WPA is a lot more secure.
The first time you connect to a wireless network you do have the option to add the password to the keychain, this is normal and does not have any security problems.
To check to see if you had added your wirless network password to your keychain open up the keychain Access found in /Applications/Utilities
You can then see a list of all the keychain entries you may see your wireless network listed in there.

  • Shared Libraries Dummy Questions

    Hello *,
I am painfully improving my understanding about shared libs. I read the technical docs how to reference them etc but I guess I am missing the concepts.
I built a web service with workshop 10.3 which of course runs fine from workshop, default settings, so the web service references 3 shared libs automagically.
Now I manually deployed this webservice app to a managed server instead of admin and it failed. I figured out I have to target the shared libs to the managed server which is of course understandable. But still, wouldn't it be helpfull to have shared libs targeted to all servers as default? (actually I am not sure if there is such a thing, target to all servers, all I know is target to a whole cluster).
Now I tried to deploy the same web service to another domain with admin console. This fails. Workshop deploys the shared libs but admin doesn't.
Now my main question is about the concept behind.
    1. Is there a recommended way to get rid of the shared libs for a workshop project once it was configured to use shared libs?
Is the only way manually adding the shared lib under WEB-INF/lib?
    2. Is there a deploy dependent shared libs? I mean if workshop can do it, couldn't wls admin do it the same way?
    3. If I generate a build script, will it take care of deploying shared libs?
    4. let's assume I want to replace the wls-commonslogging-bridge.war which contains the commons-logging.jar,
    where is this jar located?
I understand share libs make sense for bigger projects, but I don't understand I have to deploy 3 of them first to
make a hello world web service run.

First, for Workshop questions you may want to try that specific forum:
    Workshop
Your question definitely has WebLogic components too. Let me give some of these a try.
    >
    1. Is there a recommended way to get rid of the shared libs for a workshop project once it was configured to use shared libs?
Is the only way manually adding the shared lib under WEB-INF/lib?That would be one way, another way would be APP-INF/lib of the EAR. The shared libraries are defined in weblogic.xml or weblogic-application xml. Typically a domain will be configured with the libraries to be deployed when it is created if you're just using the standard WebLogic shared libraries like the Workshop framework, etc. You can also make sure that your deployment mechanism, like WLST, checks to make sure the libraries are deployed.
    >
    2. Is there a deploy dependent shared libs? I mean if workshop can do it, couldn't wls admin do it the same way? It's my understand that this is a convenience mechanism that Workshop built specifically. You're shared libraries are defined in Workshop in the preferences so it knows where to get them from if they are missing, that's not necessarily true for deploying from the Admin Server.
    3. If I generate a build script, will it take care of deploying shared libs?Definitely WLST can be used to do this.
    4. let's assume I want to replace the wls-commonslogging-bridge.war which contains the commons-logging.jar,
where is this jar located? Can't remember offhand (not on my normal machine right now), but you should be able to check easily by searching your installation of WLS for the shared library name (the war in this case). Also, Workshop should have a reference to it somewhere in the preferences.
I understand share libs make sense for bigger projects, but I don't understand I have to deploy 3 of them first to
make a hello world web service run.As I mentioned earlier, if you made the domain a Workshop domain when you created it, those shared libraries should already have been deployed and it would be ready to go.

  • Dummy question on date format and locale

    Hi everybody,
Sorry for asking such a stupid question. I've always thought that the format of the generated date
    System.out.println("Default Locale: " + Locale.getDefault());
    System.out.println("Default Locale Country: " + Locale.getDefault().getCountry());
    System.out.println("Default Locale Language: " + Locale.getDefault().getLanguage());
    SimpleDateFormat simpledateformat = new SimpleDateFormat("ddMMMyy");
    String s = simpledateformat.format(calendar.getTime());
    System.out.println("Generated date: " + s);On one machine I have the following output:
    en
    en
    01FEB08On a second machine I have
    en
    en
01FEV08I don't understant why that difference. I thought only the locale and language could change the way dates are formatted.
Can s/o help me and explain me what elements are used to format dates or where to search?
    Thx for your help
    Marc

    @Martin
    Thx for the tip.
That's what I am already doing but I'd like to understand what creates the difference between my two instances.

  • OA Framework - What is that? (sorry about the dummy question)

    Hi people,
I was looking for some information about OA Framework and i saw that it is a "tool" to help me to customize oracle applications, right? But i can do it with oracle forms and customize or create another screens. So what is the difference or why is better to use this "OA Framework"?
    Best regards

In summary, OA Framework is the new technology to implement Self-service pages. It WILL NOT replace forms and especially reports OVER-NIGHT but it is Oracle long-term plan for all eBusiness forms/pages. IMO, no new forms will be created in Oracle Forms but they will not be redeveloped in OA Framework unless they really have to. IMO, OA Framework will really need some massive enhancements to replace the functionality provided by the major forms and "work benches" in eBusiness Suite like the HRMS person form.

  • Dummy question: how to make html file working under weblogic

I created a file called register.html, and I put it under
weblogic\myserver\public_html directory, but when I try to access from the
browser, I get the following error:
From RFC 2068 Hypertext Transfer Protocol -- HTTP/1.1:
    10.4.5 404 Not Found
The server has not found anything matching the Request-URI. No indication is
given of whether the condition is temporary or permanent.
If the server does not wish to make this information available to the
client, the status code 403 (Forbidden) can be used instead. The 410 (Gone)
status code SHOULD be used if the server knows, through some internally
configurable mechanism, that an old resource is permanently unavailable and
    has no forwarding address.
What should I do to make this html file working?
    Thank you for any help.

  • Dummy question - Vlan brought by etherchannel

    Hello,
I have 2 switches and 1 etherchannel between the 2 switches. VLAN 15 is trunk'd through etherchannel from sw1 to sw2. Now I want to use the VLAN 15 on the second switch. What should I do in order to be able to use the vlan on the second switch. These switches are 6500 and there is no use of vtp.
    Regards.

    Hi
If you have a routed interface on sw2 for vlan 15 is it "down down" ?
Without a layer 2 vlan your layer 3 vlan 15 interface on sw2 should not be up.
Run a "sh vlan" on sw2 and make sure vlan 15 does not exist.

  • Dummy Question: Handheld overwrites PC means?

    Hi,
I am syncing with Outlook 2007 for the first time with a Treo 680. If I select "handheld overwites Outlook," does that mean that only the data on my Treo will be on Outlook and therefore ANYTHING currently on my Outlook will be ERASED?
For instance, If I have a Saturday appointment on Outlook, but I have no Saturday appointments on my Palm, does that mean the Outlook appointment will be deleted? Or will it remain because it is not being replaced?
I should mention that all I want to do is transfer massive amounts of data from my Palm over to Outlook, and retain the data that I currently have in Outlook.
    Thanks!
Post relates to: Treo 650 (Unlocked GSM)

    Hello!
The option handheld overwites Outlook litterally will mean the Treo will overwrite the Outlook profile with data found on your device.  For that PIM conduit, that data will be purged off Outlook and replaced with the data on your Treo.  So to answer:
For instance, If I have a Saturday appointment on Outlook, but I have
no Saturday appointments on my Palm, does that mean the Outlook
appointment will be deleted? Or will it remain because it is not being
    replaced?
Yes that entry in Outlook will be deleted.
For your situation you dont need to set the PIM conduits to overwirte and just leave them at sync the files.  Having 1 entry or 1000 entries wont constitue the need to overwrite.  To note that this would mean that data in outlook not on Treo will sync to the Treo too.  Pretty much the PIM conduits can be set to cross sync, one way overwrite sync, or no sync at all.

After I add it to my download basket, it says pending approval.
I read the help it seems need to approve it via solution manager optimizer.
I talked with my basis and he seems has no knowledge about it. I have no access to my solution manger system, so could anyone let me know what is the step to approve the download? Is it difficult? I will then let my basis approve it.
    Thanks.

    Hi ERIC,
Configure your satellite system in maintenance optimizer (in solman) .
    Maintain RFC connection (sm59)
maintain your sap oss user name and password in RFC DESTINATIIN (SAP-OSS)
    then run tc.ode solution_manager
    choose ur system
    create New Maintenance Transaction
    enter your server details
after finish this steps you can fine the ID in the screen MAINTENANCE TRANSACTION.
    click that ID
now click "confirm file is download busket".

  • SALESORDER - beginner question (BAPI_SALESORDER_GETLIST)

    Hi all,
Sorry for my dummy question now:
I have to change salesorder with BAPI's. With the BAPI BAPI_SALESORDER_GETLIST I read the salesorder, the input Parameter are CUSTOMER_NUMBER and SALES_ORGANIZATION.
I have to read all salesorder, which are the correct step to define the CUSTOMER_NUMBER and the SALES_ORGANIZATION ?
It is correct to read all CUSTOMER_NUMBER trough the table BSID ?
    Many thanks : )

    Hello David
If this is your requirement then the selection is ok. However, sales orders are stored in table VBAK:
    VBELN = Sales Document
    KUNNR = Sold-to party

It would be more worthy that you make practice and once you are confident with the subject, then appear for exam, dont simply depend on dummy question to pass OCA. Believe me, this is worthless.

  • Help needed in Time Capsule configuration

    Hello everybody,
sorry in advance for the probably dummy questions, but I have just bought a Time Capsule and would like some advice in order to obtain the best possible configuration for my needs (the configuration guide was not so clear to me).
I linked the TC via Ethernet to my modem/router (I have a Vodafone Station 2), and I have the following requirements:
    1) let the TC become the primary WiFi source: what is the best way to do it? Shall I deactivate the Wi-Fi on the Vodafone Station? Shall I create a new network or extend the existing one?
    2) create a guest network (possibly with another password): I can I do it? I didn't succeed in doing it...
    3) I would like to use the TC internal hard disk both as a sort of reporitory for my MacBook Air backup, and at the same time as an external hard disk; can I do it directly or should I create a partition on the disk?
    4) I would like to add another external HD via USB to the TC, in order to have access to its content through various devices (MacBook, iPhone, iPad, PC) linked to the WiFi network. Also in this case I couldn't get it... How should I do that?
    5) Finally, I have a question: is it possible to remotely access (e.g. via 3G) the TC hard disk?
Thank you in advance for any help you can give me!!

You do not want to extend.. well actually you cannot extend a non-apple router.. so put that out.
The TC will probably have to be in bridge mode.. but it can become the primary wifi source.. simply create a wireless network. Turn off wireless in the vodafone station.
But from your other requirement of a guest network.. you cannot do that in bridge on the TC.. so why not use the vodafone station as your guest network. Give TC wireless a different name. Fix the channels. Try to have them sit a bit apart from one another.. A few Meters at least.
    2) create a guest network (possibly with another password): I can I do it? I didn't succeed in doing it...
You cannot do guest network with the TC in bridge. So you need to either bridge the modem and use pppoe client in the TC.. that depends on if your ISP supports PPPoE authentication.
    3) I would like to use the TC internal hard disk both as a sort of reporitory for my MacBook Air backup, and at the same time as an external hard disk; can I do it directly or should I create a partition on the disk?
This is not really a good idea.. You cannot partition a TC.. Mixing data and backups can be done but it is not necessarily going to work well. The primary design of the TC is a backup target for TM and mainly looking at laptops.
    Look at Q3 here. http://pondini.org/TM/Time_Capsule.html
Pondini is our guru on all things TM.
Particularly remember any files offloaded to the TC have no backups.. And TC is not reliable enough to trust. It is a single hard disk and has no form of automated backup.. nor can TM backup a network drive. Any backup of info on the TC has to be done manually.
    4) I would like to add another external HD via USB to the TC, in order to have access to its content through various devices (MacBook, iPhone, iPad, PC) linked to the WiFi network. Also in this case I couldn't get it... How should I do that?
The USB port of the TC is renowned for being underpowered even if the hard drive is powered you might need a powered hub. Some hubs work and some don't so even that is not simple.
USB drive has to be formatted Mac Extended Journelled. Or fat32.
    5) Finally, I have a question: is it possible to remotely access (e.g. via 3G) the TC hard disk?
In your case the answer is probably.. but this will not be easy.
Apple's only method is BTMM via iCloud, but the TC must be the main router in the network.
That means you need to bridge your existing modem.
You might be able to get it to work via the existing modem. Please google remote access time capsule.
You will need to port forward AFP to the TC in the modem and use ddns to find the correct address unless your ISP has given you a static IP.
Sorry for the glass half empty answer.
