• ABAP Dump when calling Function Module Starting New Task

Hi all. I have a tricky situation now, I am doing a POC on parallel processing.
I am getting an ABAP dump on the following Call Function line which is in class lcl_steer_114numc (See below for full program):
METHOD start.
        CALL FUNCTION 'Z_ZZCLS_STEER_114NUMC'
          STARTING NEW TASK me->id
          CALLING me->finish ON END OF TASK.
      ENDMETHOD.                    "start
However I get the following ABAP dump:
Short text
        Statement "CALL FUNCTION .. DESTINATION/STARTING NEW TASK/IN BACKGROUND TASK"
The function module only contains a wait statement to simulate parallel processing. It is strange that it dumps here, because when I change the FM call to another call that has been triggered successfully from other classes, it still produces the same ABAP dump.
The background of the Proof Of Concept is to see if I can get an event to trigger the next process that depends on the outcome of the previous process. Parallel processes are run in the start methods by calling RFC.

Well, the thing is I did manage to run 3 other Function Modules asynchronously succeesfully prior to that function call, with the same exact function call syntax. Further more, I have tried editing it with your suggestion but I get the exact same dump.
The complete function group can be downloaded here (slinkee file):
https://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B3sua1Bw4XK4ZmFhNzcwMTgtYzQ0Mi00NzQ4LTg5YTMtNDNlNWUxYTM2NTg3&hl=en_US
The complete program can be downloaded here (slinkee file):

The complete ST22 dump can be found here:

Basically I ST22 gives me the following:
Runtime Errors         RPERF_ILLEGAL_STATEMENT
Date and Time          17.07.2011 05:29:54
Short text
    Statement "CALL FUNCTION .. DESTINATION/STARTING NEW TASK/IN BACKGROUND TASK"
What happened?
    Error in the ABAP Application Program

    The current ABAP program "Z_ZZB1_CLOSE_PERIOD_TEST2" had to be terminated
     because it has
    come across a statement that unfortunately cannot be executed.
And it explains it here (but is not helpful / relevant at all) as I ran the program from SE38.
Error analysis
    There is probably an error in the program
    "Z_ZZB1_CLOSE_PERIOD_TEST2".
    The program was probably called in a conversion exit
    or in a field exit. These are implemented by
    function modules called CONVERSION_EXIT_xxxxx_INPUT/OUTPUT or
    USER_EXIT_xxxxx_INPUT.
    Conversion exits are triggered during screen field transports or
    WRITE statements, field exits during field transports from the
    screen to the ABAP/4 program.
    In this connection, the following ABAP/4 statements are not allowed:

I hope you try to download the slinkee files and you will notice the call function I performed was no different than the other call function RFC calls that really are working.

• Core Dump when calling DriverManager.getConnection

I'm very confused and hope someone can help me out with this.
I'm trying to make a connection to a MS SQL Server 7 and am getting a core dump when getConnection is called. No exception is thrown, just a core dump and locked session. If I run the class from it's main there is absolutly no problem, but when I do a new on the class and call it's member to establish the connection: core dump. The environment is the same in both cases. The calling class did does use a mySql connection, but I tried closing it and setting it to null with the same problem. I'm not sure if the getConnection is stepping on a socket or what it's trying to violate in memory causing the dump. This is running on a SCO Openserver 5.0.5 box (green threads). Why it runs stand-alone and not when called from another class has got me tangled... Thread problem? I've tried several SQL drivers, they all do the same thing.
Anyway, here's a snippet from the java class:
try
{Class.forName(myForName);
// core dump, next line
Connection myConn = DriverManager.getConnection(myUrl, myUser, myPass);
// never get's here
Statement myStmt = myConn.createStatement();
catch (Exception e) // modified for this post
{system.out.println(e.toString());
Here's the dump printed to the monitor (2>&1)
SIGSEGV 11* segmentation violation
si_signo [11]: SIGSEGV 11* segmentation violation
si_errno [0]: Error 0
si_code [1]: SEGV_MAPERR [addr: 0x8]

I have a similar problem with establishing a connection through JNI. Have you resolved your problem?
Here's mine.
In java, I have a class that provides an interface to a mysql database. The java programs that call this interface work fine.
When I try to call the java interface from C++ through JNI, I get the following output -- some debug statements sprinkled through also. I am assuming that the JVM is missing something at runtime that is there in my JRE. The classpaths match , etc. Exception handling in java and in JNI code are not providing any more detail.. Thanks for comments!!
Created jvm
Got KBModel and String classes

I am talking about the above Receiver RFC channel which you guys are using to call R/3 from XI. That where you need to change the commit parameter

• Type conflict when calling a function module!

friends,
          i have given a F4 value request help for a field in the at selection-screen on value-request for fieldname..but when i click the f4 it's showing dump..
The function module interface allows you to specify only fields of a particular type under "RETFIELD". The field "S_SGLTX-LOW" specified here has a different field type. what could be wrong? thanks all.

Hi,
Actually, we are using the function module for the F4 help that returns the values selected in an internal table. Very handy when programming your very own F4 help for a field.
Here is the sample code.
tables kna1.
data:
begin of t_values occurs 2,
value like kna1-begru,
end of t_values,
t_return like ddshretval occurs 0 with header line.
select-options s_begru for kna1-begru.
at selection-screen on value-request for s_begru-low.
t_values = 'PAR*'.
append t_values.
t_values = 'UGG'.
append t_values.
call function 'F4IF_INT_TABLE_VALUE_REQUEST'
exporting
retfield = 'BEGRU'
value_org = 'S'
tables
value_tab = t_values
return_tab = t_return
exceptions
parameter_error = 1
no_values_found = 2
others = 3.
if sy-subrc = 0.
read table t_return index 1.
endif.

its very urgent.Oh no! Sorry I couldn't respond sooner - I do hope the patient who was undergoing his critical surgery that obviously was held up because you couldn't call your function has survived!
Looks like the connection was dropped/terminated. What does your function do? You haven't really given any information whatsoever that would enable someone to help you (such as version, perhaps a code snippet, etc)

• Bad performance when calling a function in where clause

Hi All,
I have a performance problem when executing a query that contains a function call in my where clause.
I have a query with some joins and a where clause with some regular filters. But one of these filters is a function, and its input parameters are columns of the tables used in the query.
When I run it with only a few rows in the tables, it goes ok. But as the number of rows grows, performance falls geometrically, even when my where clause filters the result to only a few rows.
If I take the function call off of the where clause, then run the query and then call the function for each returned row, performance is ok. Even when the number of returned rows is big.
But I need the function call to be in the where clause, because I can't build a procedure to execute it.
Does anyone have any clue on how to improve performance?
Thanks,
Rafael

You have given very little information...
>
If I take the function call off of the where clause, then run the query and then call the function for each returned row, performance is ok. Even when the number of returned rows is big. Can you describe how you measured the performance for a big result set without the function? For example lets say there had been 10.000 rows returned (which is not really big, but it is astarting point). Did you see all 10.000 rows? A typical mistake is to execute the query in some tool like Oracle SQL Developer or TOAD and measure how fast the first couple of rows are returned. Not the performance of the full select.
As you can see from this little detail there are many questions that you need to address first before we can drill down to the root of your problem. Best way is to go through the thread that Centinul linked and provide all that information first. During the cause of that you might discover that you learn things on the way that help a lot for later tuning problems/approaches.

Hi,

XPath 2.0 specifications define a fn:format-date function but Oracle has not included yet in its XQuery implementation.
Easiest way to go is A_Non's solution, but if you need to format at multiple places in the query, you can declare a local XQuery function.
For example, to format to "DD/MM/YYYY" from the canonical xs:date format "YYYY-MM-DD" :
{code}
declare function local:format-date($d as xs:date) as xs:string
let $s := xs:string($d)
return concat(
substring($s, 10, 2), "/",
substring($s, 7, 2), "/",
substring($s, 2, 4)
{code}
and an example of use :
{code}
SQL> CREATE TABLE test_xqdate AS SELECT sysdate dt FROM dual;
Table created
SQL> SELECT *
2 FROM XMLTable(
3 'declare function local:format-date($d as xs:date) as xs:string
4 {
5 let $s := xs:string($d)
6 return concat(
7 substring($s, 10, 2), "/",
8 substring($s, 7, 2), "/",
9 substring($s, 2, 4)
10 )
11 }; (: :)
12 for $i in ora:view("TEST_XQDATE")/ROW/DT
13 return element e {
14 attribute xs_date_format { $i/text() },
15 attribute local_format { local:format-date($i) }
16 }'
17 COLUMNS
18 xs_date_format VARCHAR2(10) PATH '@xs_date_format',
19 local_format VARCHAR2(10) PATH '@local_format'
20 )
21 ;

• Error occuring when calling a function via BSP

In BSP, I call the function 'SD_DELIVERY_UPDATE_PICKING' to update a delivery. Unfortunately, when there is an error during processing this function (it is returned in the export table PROT), I found that this delivery is always locked! On the other hand, calling this function in SAP GUI, I haven't found this problem. How can I solve it. I try to use the command 'commit work.', but it doesn't work.
Moreover, when this function raises an error message, in SAP GUI this function terminates its work according to the message type 'E' rule. However, in BSP, when this error message is raised, the page shows 'The page cannot be displayed'. How can I solve these problems.

you should do something like below.
call function 'SD_DELIVERY_UPDATE_PICKING'

• When calling a function in a shared library, are parameters copied locally?

I have a shared library with a function whose header is:
void __cdecl nextevent(double Input[], int32_t len);
When called it sends the values in Input[] to the control Input:
This vi is compiled to a DLL which uses the header above.
My question now is: Which of these operations is the correct one:
1. The Input control is a reference to the array Input[], no values are copied.
2. The values in the array Input[] are copied to the control Input, the local copy is used by the vi, then the values in the local copy are removed/deallocated.
It seems reasonable to me that 1 is the correct one, but I can't be sure, and I can't think of any way to check it.

Solved!
Go to Solution.

For this particular case option 2 is valid. The reason is that LabVIEW arrays are not just pointers to a memory location but handles. And there is no legal way to create valid LabVIEW handles from an C runtime allocated memory pointer. So LabVIEW converts the incoming array pointer into a handle which is basically nothing else than allocating the handle with a size large enough to  hold all array data, and then copies the data from the array pointer into this handle. After the call, the handle is properly deallocated.
