Dumped Safari for Firefox, now my e-mail links open in Real Player!

I wasn't really using Safari anymore, and prefer Firefox (using version 1.07). So I finally dumped Safari. But opened a link in an email today and was surprised!
It opened with Real Player!
I'm worried now that I can't set my email preferences to use Firefox to open any links in emails.
I can grab Safari off our desktop if I need to, but
anyone have any other ideas to change this?
Thanks

Nanci,
You need to check to see which browser is set to be your default one. Or just go ahead and make it Firefox since that seems to be your preference. I think this may be one of those chicken and egg problems, but it is easily sovled. You will need, however, to fire up Safari one last time and go to Safari > Preferences > General to make Firefox your default browser. After doing that, URL links in your email should open properly in Firefox.

Steve M.

Genieo Adware is installed.  Removing it will help.
If you have another browser installed, use it.
If not, launch App store and get another  browser for temporary use.
    Remove it afterwards.
    1. Use  free  AdwareMedic by clicking “Download ” from here
        http://www.adwaremedic.com/index.php
Install , open,  and run it by clicking “Scan for Adware” button   to remove adware.
Once done, quit AdwareMedic by clicking AdwareMedic in the menu bar and selecting
        “Quit AdwareMedic”.
                   or
Remove the adware  manually  by following the “HowTo” from Apple.
        http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203987
    2. Safari > Preferences > Extensions
Turn those off and relaunch Safari to test .
Turn those on one by one and test.
    3. Safari > Preferences >  Search > Search Engine :
        Select your preferred   search engine.
    4. Safari > Preferences > General > Homepage:

  • I have upgraded firefox 4 to firefox 5 but it does not work with real player record plugin 14.0.3......so I want to revert the upgrade to 4....please give me solution or firefox 4

    Question
I have upgraded firefox 4 to firefox 5 but it does not work with real player record plugin 14.0.3......so I want to revert the upgrade to 4....please give me solution or firefox 4

Go to your actual realplayer (program), click the top right button (Realplayer with an downwards arrow) and update your software. Make sure Firefox is closed while you do this.

  • Mozilla firefox 3.6.4 doesn't work with real player.because of this i don't want to update MF 3.6.3...What can i do

mozilla firefox 3.6.4 doesn't work with real player...can't download any videos...what can i do
    == This happened ==
    Just once or twice
    == update to 3.6.4. version

If you install 3.6.3 and don't want it to automatically upgrade you need to open the browser and select "Tools" from the menu bar. Go to "Options". Select the "Advanced" icon. Go to the "update" tab on the "Advanced" menu. Here you can configure how and what Firefox updates.
    Hope that helps.

  • Safari crashes every time, so does mail when opening a mail

Hmm... as of today Safari (3.0.4) and mail (3.1) both crash every time.
Safari stays open with no webpage loaded, go to any website and crash. Mail also crashes when you open a mail. if you dont use the preview window then mail stays open but aside from deleting mail you cannot do a lot!
I can get safari to open a local pdf file but nothing on the net.
I have latest version of Leopard on a leopard-built macpro 8core. i have all latest software downloads on it. probably caused by last set of software updates id say - how do i check and remove last downloaded updates ?
Ive reported most crashes to Apple as each time generates a crash report.
Ive trashed prefs, ive checked permissions, ive repaired the HDD from a bootup system.
    Im a bit stuck now.
Firefox works fine - im using that now to write this post.
mail does seem to use same internal browser for reading mail and is very much linked to Safari, so i guess i will have to use another mail reader too.
    Any suggestions ?
I can post crash reports for Safari and or mail if anyone can shed light on this.
I just installed acrobat reader (after this problem) and that crashed at end of install (assuming when it started up).
I have no internet plugins for safari.

seems after downloading and installing 10.5.2 my issues are resolved.

  • In Firefox 7.0.1, sometimes link opens in another open window instead of current window.

    MacBook OS X 10.5.8
Working at Distributed Proofreading [DP] and at DPCanada.
When trying to begin proofreading from Project Page in new tab using Command-click, link opens in new tab on a different, minimized page instead of in new tab in current window. Of course, that window becomes the current page.
In Safari, this misbehavior does not occur.
I think I've been able to overcome this by "right" clicking and choosing open in new tab, but I'm not sure it always works and cannot test it now until I send this, apparently.

Tweeking network.http.max-connections doesn't work, mine was already set to 48 and Firefox freezes on me for 1-2 minutes hundreds of times a day.
This silence from Firefox support is just inexcusable. I'm at my wits end, after being a loyal Netscape/Mozilla/Firefox user since 1994, I'm thinking about leaving for Chrome.

  • Runtime error - first in Safari, then Firefox, now Opera

This is an odd one. Looking for a new house, so I've been hitting realtor.com regularly. After a week or so of browsing it in Safari, I suddenly started getting an error message:
    *+Server Error in '/' Application.++*
    *++Runtime Error++*
*++Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.++*
I tried Firefox, and it worked fine - for a couple of days, then got the same error. So I downloaded Opera. It worked fine for about a day, then the same error popped up.
I am baffled. It only happens on realtor.com.
    Any ideas?

I had the same problem with usairways.com, so it isn't limited to just realtor.com.
Deleting all usairways.com cookies fixed the problem.
    Thank you!

  • Any ideas for the following problem: when mailing links with firefox as the default, multiple files appear and I can't close them or successfully mail the link?

I may have picked up a virus. I use an iMacBook Air. When I attempt to send links via my default (Firefox) email program, Firefox immediately opens dozens of files that I'm not able to close (when I attempt to open or close these, they scroll horizontally and won't stop). I am unable to do anything except quit Firefox. The mail naturally never gets sent through Firefox; I'm not a particularly adept computer user, so I don't know what to do about this.

This link should help you resolve this - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Firefox+keeps+opening+many+tabs+or+windows
You will probably have the mailto protocol set to "use Firefox", the above link show how to fix that.

  • Updated Safari for Windows, now it won't open

    I'm getting the following error:
"?prototype@JSImmediate@JSC@@CAPAVJS@object@2@VJSValue@2@PAVExecState@2@@Z could not be located in the dynamic link library JavaScriptCore.dll"
    How do I resolve this?

    Thanks, berky!
The basic procedure for that sort of issue is to uninstall both Safari and Apple Application Support, and then reinstall Safari (which should also reinstall Apple Apple Support). We'll take a few additional explicit precautions along the way.
For XP 32-bit instructions, see the following post:

  • After the latest update for firefox, now when I start firefox up I keep getting a pop up window that is a Java Script Application that says TypeError:Components.classes['@softage.ru/skype/skypeFfExtension;1']is undefined.

After closing this Firefox seems to work fine but this happens everytime on startup. How can I get rid of this pop up window starting everytime? Can I re-install firefox? Would I lose my bookmarks etc?

Once I disabled my Ask.com toolbar (that was installed when I installed FoxIt), the error went away.

  • Safari and firefox won't launch and explorer opens but won't load correctly

    Hi
Something weird is happening to our emac!
Got home yesterday after a few days away and all the apple aps have stopped working
Safari and itunes won't launch at all - they just bounce a couple of times in the dock - then nothing.
Firefox won't launch either - the only browser I can get to launch is explorer - and that won't load properly.
I've tried the software update - it says there's now software - but 'unexpectedly' quits if i try to download anything.
In desperation overnight I re-installed the software from the software restore discs - but this morning it's no better.
I saw a thread earlier that suggested that rogue fonts might be to blame - which could be something because the only page that loads in explorer displays strangely with the fonts all over the place.
Any advice that someone could give would be much appreciated
    thanks x

    HI,
*"In desperation overnight I re-installed the software from the software restore discs - but this morning it's no better."*
Better check the startup disk for errors.
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window. Where you see Capacity and Available. Make sure there is always 10% to 15% free disk space.
If you cannot boot from your install disk, try booting in Safe Mode
    What is Safe Mode

  • 3GS - YouTube only plays through Safari, can't connect through e-mail links nor app icon. Fixable?

iPhone 3GS: YouTube only connects/plays through Safari but not through links in e-mail messages nor from the app icon. Fixable? Thanks.

    Thanks for joining the discussion.
Although port 8443 is mosten quoted as correct port for CalDAV and CardDAV, port 8843 can be found both on Apple's website and other places:
see Technical Note 1649 to find port 8443 listed for iCal and port 8843 for Address Book
Mac OS X Lion Server for Dummies (sic) lists port 8843 on pages 236 and 238 but port 8443 in many other places
when you want to push iCal and Address Book information with Profile Manager, Profile Manager lists port 8443 for iCal but port 8843 for Address Book as default:
So I hope you understand I'm somewhat puzzled.
I did get the Address Book working for my Lion desktops with the all the necessary certificates as far as I know, just not for the iOS devices (iPhone and IpPad). iCal sharing from Lion Server works fine on both Lion and iOS devices.

  • Mail link opens Firefox in Parallels

This problem is driving me crazzzzzzzy!
I updated my OS to Yosemite. All is well.. except.. opening a link inside a Mail email .. in turn, it opens Firefox   - in Parallels!!!
I have gone to "configure" in my Parallels setup  -disassociated both OS
    Thanks for any help offered!

Try to undo and redo Firefox as the default browser.
Make another browser like IE the default browser and then let Firefox do it again.

  • Firefox crashes when aol mail is open

When I read AOL Mail in firefox it crashes doesnt do it in I/E 8

I was having this same problem, but I found that if you simply close the email with the X provided by aol (gray square with a white X in the top right corner but to the left of the ad) instead of the X on the outside that you would normally use to close a browser window, then the problem doesn't happen.
