Dungeon Siege 1
Hi,
I've tried to launch several times Dungeon Siege but doesn't work. I've installed Rosetta but doesn't work... When I double clic on the icon a window opens up and tells me the's an error in the library... What can I do?
Deathstalker,
I did the whole format/clean install of Win98SE (non-upgrade) just a couple days ago. I don't use any Norton products or virus scanning software on my machine.
I installed chipset drivers, MSI Live Update, hardware drivers (monitor, nic, etc.) and then nVidia DET 30.82 followed by DX 8.1. Thats it.
In the past, I had read about some games requiring the "AGP Texture Acceleration" disabled in DirectX, but it didn't help in this case. Any ideas?
Regards,
WingZero

SB Live EAX problem with Dungeon Siege
Hello
I have an SB li've 5. and am using just the 4 speaker setup. Have the latest drivers for my sound card, am using dx 9.0c, downloaded the latest patch. When I enable EAX I get no sound effects at all(footsteps, weapon noise, chests opening, etc.) When I disable EAX I get all the sound effects. Its a very common sound card, I would think it would work fine on EAX. The original Dungeon Siege worked fine on EAX.
Thanks!!Message Edited by Sartori on 08-22-2005 04:43 AMMake sure that you do not have a EAX Preset like Auditorium etc. enabled. I am not sure how it goes on the Li've!, as I have an Audigy, but I think you can access it fomr the AudioHQ Console. Also make sure that the original sound source is set to 00% volume.

MSI Ti-4200 128 MB possible overclocking problem
I have a:
QDI Kudoz 7E/333A mobo
AMD Athlon 2000+ (Palomino)
MSI Ge-Force Ti-4200 128 MB
512 MB Ram@333
Maxtor 160 GB HDD UATA 133 8MB Cache
Western Digital 40 GB GDD UATA 100 2MB Cache
SB Live Audigy 2 NX
Nec DVDR/W 3520
Nec DVD-ROM 5500
Windows XP SP 2
NVidia Detonator (Forceware) 66.93
Coolbits2
I had overclocked my Ti-4200 to 285MHz Core and 585MHz RAMDAC using the coolbits registry key (boot settings). Everything worked fine for about a month, I have ran several 3DMark tests (mostly 2003) and many "heavy" games (Doom 3, Far Cry, HL2, Warhammer:DOW, etc) and no problems occured (crashes or weird graphics). The 3DMark 2003 score from 1500 now is 1700 and I am (was) quite happy about it. Yesterday I removed the 512 Ram and re-installed it after a while (had to remove the card also) and the PC, without having any problems at all (I was playing Dungeon Siege a few hours ago) suddenly, while in BIOS and DOS, the screen is filled with white dots (looks like Pac-Man ) and while loading the XP logo I see thin vertical lines (red and yellow) and then the monitor closes while the PC still works. I tried running in safe mode, it loaded but I still had these lines on the screen. I removed the DVD-ROM and the WD HDD just in case (350W PSU) but still had the same story. I installed a Club 3D Radeon 9600 Pro 256 MB and everything worked fine. I didn't install any Catalyst Drivers, I removed the coolbits from the registry and the NVidia drivers, re-installed the Ti-4200 and still I have the same problem. The card looks fine, no broken pins or anything. I also thought about a virus but this can't be, I triple-checked everything I installed and no viruses were found (and the Radeon worked).
I fear the overclocking was not so good after all but I can't be sure.
Any ideas?
Thanx in advance.Proves a theory im made at least, MSI makes cheap / fault video ram, your card is a gonner pretty much, those vertical lines and monitor shuitting down are known as screen corruptions that occur when the video ram is fried (in most cases), did you overclock it by 10%? Im wondering if you can RMA a card since MSI does guarentee 10% overclock on some cards so I here but I cant be sure, someone else needs to answer that question as for MSI, if your going to overclock, dont buy from them, Im quite peeved at MSI because the memory on their cards cant even handle stock speeds let alone overclocked ones.

*FIXED* No sound and 'No Audio Device' in Control Panel. *FIX
I?m having a problem with my sound. Basically all I get is a system sound, which means no sounds from itunes but the error prompt sounds still play. I?m tempted to say that this is a detection issue because of several things:
-First, when looking in the ?sounds and audio devices? in the control panel I get grayed out selections and a ?no audio device?.
-Secondly, when running the directX diagnostic tool (typing ?dxdiag? in the ?run? window) I get several troubling indications. First under device I have no manufacturer or product ID. Second under drivers I have (copied from dxdiag text file):
Driver Name: ctaud2k.sys
Driver Version: 5.2.000.96 (English)
Driver Attributes: Final Retail
WHQL Logo'd: Yes
Date and Size: 8//2006 4:45:38, 499584 bytes
Other Files:
Seems hunky-doorey but then I have a note at the bottom that reads:
Sound Test Result: Failure at step 3 (DirectSoundCreate): HRESULT = 0x88780078 (No driver)
I have seen another similar post that seemed to have the same problem, but they didn?t provide much information and the fix was to pull out the audio card, run start up, turn it off, and then put it back in and run start up. If this is what needs to be done, could I have a picture or something of what the sound card looks like?
This problem started when I tried to update my sound card and since then my sound has been? possessed? or prone to working at sometimes and then (most of the time)failing at others.
Here is the dxdiag.txt file without the lengthy directShow filters and directx components:

Message Edited by guru7892 on 05-24-200705:55 PMI found that once you reinstall your sound card you need to make sure you hook everything back up correctly.
basically all you need to do is run a start up with your sound card out ofyou computer and then re-run start up with the card back in. -
I just installed the newest version of quicktime for windows xp, and I'm having a problem with trying to play video for more than a few seconds. When I first play the the videos will automatically start the problem and a flat green color shows up, showing no video. The sound locks up also for a few seconds at a time and then plays again for a few seconds. The cursor also freezes while the sounds does. Any idea what this is, and how to fix it? or any other player that plays mov files? its very annoying
heres my dxdiag report if it helps any

Will there be driver support for the 8600m GT under Windows XP?
Hi!
I would like to run Windows XP on my Santa Rosa Macbook Pro. I know that with Bootcamp 1.3 you get drivers for the 8600m GT - the thing is, that those drivers do not seem to be optimised, for the 3dMark 06-test scores pretty low (no more than 10fps in most tests).
Nvidia does not develop drivers for their mobile graphic cards. So the question is: Will Apple publish XP-drivers for that card in the future?
Or do I have to buy Windows Vista?
And has anyone benchmark-results using Windows XP or Vista respectively?
Thanks in advance!

Macbook Pro 2,2 Mac OS X (10.4.9)Thanks for the welcome!
I score about 2.780 points with 3dmark 06. 3dmark 06 didn't seem to recognize the graphics card, by the way.
Ran also Unreal Tournament 2004 and Dungeon Siege. UT 2004 ran better on my old Macbook (Intel Core Duo, 512 MB), Dungeon Siege had 20-60 fps (not impressive at all for such an old game).
So something seems to be wrong... hope it's the drivers and not the hardware.
Greetings!

Unexpected Rebooting..
Hi..
I've been reading through the forums a bit now and I noticed that alot of people have the same problem as me more or less but I still have -not- seen any definitive fixes.
My hardware is -brand- new. I bought it this morning and having set it up and been busy I've only been using it for about 8 hours in all.
MSI 865PE Neo2-LS mainboard.
P4 2.4ghz 800mhz FSB.
Infinium 512mb DDR400
MSI GeForce4 MX440 64mb 4x AGP
Q-Tec 400w Power Supply.
My system has rebooted 3-4 times now.
I was running the "Demo" in 3DMark 2001 SE Build 330 and all of a sudden just after the Max Payne style bit it rebooted itself. I was then unable to turn it on... I left it as it was and went off to think about the problem.
Half an hour later I came back to jiggle around a bit and see if I could fix it. Surprise surprise I managed to get it running again.. for a short time.. within 30 minutes while watching a video on screen it powered itself down.
By this time I was truly fed up so I decided to explore a little more.. well.. eventually I swapped my mouse into a PS/2 port.. now my mouse is lit up. So I boot.. and the mouse is lit up even though the monitor is refusing to display a picture. I power down.. but when I power down I notice that my mouse light is still on?!?!?! So I pull the power cable out.. and then plug it back in again.. power up.. AND SURPRISE SURPRISE ITS WORKING AGAIN.
Now.. 2 hours in.. I was frolicking in the joy of being able to play Dungeon Siege with decent FPS. Well.. just as I was about to host a game guess what? It powered itself down again. My mouse light still shining even though everything is off (yes I have LED lit fans and they were all off.. no sound coming from anything.. just this eery blue glow from my mouse...)
So here I am typing this overly long topic in high hopes that someone will know what the $!%@ is going on here..
I flashed my bios to 1.3 earlier on and have all the latest driver versions.
The strange thing is: When it appears to have powered down my mouse still has its light on.. but then I pull the cable and replug and it turns on.. without doing so after it reboots itself and I try to turn it back on I just hear a phut phut from the hdd and the mouse comes on and the screen does not display anything.. Check Signal Cable - Monitor Is OK.
-.- Doh. Help!! Please? ;(
Oh and P.S: I haven't overclocked and have set the BIOS settings to default already.Ok after trying alot of things including a format to check if it was a software problem I am still having this problem.
I'm beginning to think that this sound is relative to the one in a 6 page thread over in the nvidia/sis boards forum. People were experiencing problems when they connected the extra 4-pin power.. like having a strange buzzing/screeching/humming oscillation type noise whenever they scrolled the mouse or the screen refreshed to a new image. So last night I tried to unplug the 4-pin power (as I heard it was optional) and turned the PC on.. and I could hear everything revving up getting ready for startup but the monitor wouldn't come on (yes I checked the signal cable and my gfx card does work) and the devices didn't make the accustomed noise they did when they reached Windows (so i'm assuming it didn't even boot into windows with the screen off). MSI were talking about this being a bad power issue.. so if somebody can confirm this for me..
Bad PSU caused a circuit/power problem with the MSI865PE Neo2-LS when making use of the 4-pin power causing weird sounds and oscillations whenever I scroll/play games/do anything taxing in Windows and leading to a shutdown when whatever's causing the oscillations gets too intense.
Hope someone replies seeing as this thread is quite old :\ -
Colour Distortion in some games using Fx 5200
Hi!
When using my graphics card in certain games (e.g. Tony Hawk's 4, Dungeon Siege), the colours almost look inverse (though they're not quite, just some crazy psychadelic effects where there shouldn't be.) However, this isn't the case on a few other games (Morrowind, Worms 3d etc.) This has only started happening since I bought the card, and I have the latest drivers from NVidia, any suggestions?
Thanks!try to install all the patches of all the games.

Is there more than tuxracer around?
since 2.4.23 i have now full 3d-acceleration on my ATI Mobility FireGL7800 (using radeon) ...
the only 3d-games i know are tuxracer and bzflag, but i wondered what other 3d-games are there around (of course for (arch)linux! )
what 3d-games do you play on archlinux?
thanx in advanceMNKyDeth wrote:
Well, if you mean free games, I honestly don't play any. If you mean commercial games, I play:
Unreal Tournament
Unreal Tournament 2003
Savage: The Battle for Newerth
NeverWinterNights and it's expansion
Rune + expansion
Railroad tycoon 2
Soldier of fortune
Majesty
Tribes 2
Kohan
Descent 3
Those are all my Native linux games I run.
WineX games I run are:
Aliens vs Predator
Battlefield 1942
Command and Conquer Red Alert
Dungeon Siege
Homeworld
Homeworld 2
Kohan: Ahrimans gift
Master of Orion 3
Morrowind + both expansion
Starcraft + expansion
Stronghold
Warcraft 3
Total Annihilation: Kingdoms
All these games run great in Arch linux. But if you want the best game that is currently native on linux it gonna be Savage. IMO anyway.
it's always better to have "free" ones (as i'm a student and my budget has it's ends ) but for a great game, paying a little is not that horrible
wow, thanx for this long list ... i will have a look at the shops next time --- savage sounds not bad, indeed:
http://www.linuxlogin.com/games/savage/ i found while searching for it
is there something simmilar like "Siedler" (3 or 4) around, under linux? (i used to play Siedler2 under dos, a really funny game)
... running wine(X) is not really what i want; you loose too much performance with it :-([/img] -
Msi neo4 plat, sb audigy 2, max overclock, and xmod bios 1.b
hi,
sys as in sig.
i could oc my cpu to about 2400 stable @1.45+6.6% and run everything under the sun. recently i read a thread here or @ rage3d saying something along the lines that audigy 2 does interfere with the max oc achieved.
So i set out to test this theory. I raied fsb from 267 to 270 and ran mark05,06 and super pi. no problems
then i ran dungeon siege 2, cod 2. all crashed with looping sound; symptoms of sb's interferece as described in the thread i read.
I got curious upped vmod to 9.9%, raised fsb to 275. again all "torture" tests run okay, but not the games. infact not many games would last a couple of hours stable.
I am using murdok's xmod 1.b. it has this option in the cell menu; set pci clock. usually it is set to auto. i disabled it. Anyone knows what does this exactly do?
Anyways anyone here knows how to get over this sb thing other than to simply get rid of it??
thanks in advance.disabled it cuz, i thought that overclocking the cpu caused the audigy 2 to playup (the only card i've on the pci bus)
Since my last post, i've figured out that it was the soundcard causing the issues. I took it out and could reach 280*9, with 1.6 (Vmod).
I plugged the card back in set it to standard acceleration in dxdiag, and all runs well. tinkering with the set pci clock made no difference at all! (i kinda had an idea what it did, but not exactly). so i set it back to enabled.
thanks for ur reply. -
Merry Christmas Everyone,
Here is a interesting problem I am encountering with my FX5600 256Meg Video Card. I play Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 and Dungeon Siege primarily and they were both working just fine until I am not sure which caused this or if either caused this. I installed a new Sound Blaster Audigy LS 24 Bit Sound Card and also got the update for the video. Now my games seem to have stop and go action all the time... you know... run and then freeze for a microsecond and then continue. I reinstalled the OS... put things in like I would normally and it still is doing it. Is it Direct X related... IRQ Conflict ( Video on 16, sound on 17 ) driver related? I am not sure. I am running an Athlon 2100+ with 512 meg of ram... the FX5600 Video Card... 56K Modem ( )... because cable is not availiable in our area ( )... a CD-RW and a DVD Player on Windows XP ( ). Any and all help would be greatly apriciated. Oh Yes... I do have the latest driver and Hyperion Driver as well.
Please Help
Sincerely Yours,
Lara CroftLara Croft,
List all your IRQs and every device on each IRQ. Are you running the latest drivers from the nVidia and Creative Websites?

Wanting to know about gaming performance on boot camp
Hello I have an Intel imac 20” with 2 GHz core 2 duo processer 2 GB of ram and ATI Radeon HD 2400 128 MB.
And I will be getting leopard here soon but I basically want it for boot camp so I can play games on my Mac. I have played some games on my Mac but they run very poorly I downloaded unreal tournament 2003 and I couldn’t even run it, the frame rate was terrible it was the same for DOOM 3 it was extremely choppy even on low settings. I am wanting to play games like Command & Conquer 3 which I would just buy the one for Mac computers but after running the games I listed above I don’t think it will work at all is it my hardware or would I be able to run new pc games if I had windows through boot camp?
Any help would be greatly appreciative thanks. Please note for a start that I am a beginner with Macs - only had my 24"iMac for 3 months, never paid much attention to Macs before. (But been playing with PCs and earlier things since they came out, spent 50 years or so with computing software and hardware). I got an iMac for reasons similar to yours, it seems - wanted the stability of the Mac platform (etc etc), but wanted to play 'real' games.
I set up a 250GB NTFS partition with Boot Camp (& iPartition), installed XP Pro SP2. Been loading and testing 19 assorted games that I like - mostly RPG/FPS, old and new. Of these 3 have NOT worked at all so far, 4 have worked with a bit of fiddling, the rest worked right off. Recent ones such as Guild Wars, The Witcher, Dark Messiah, Dungeon Siege 2, Hellgate London, Assassins Creed, Age of Conan:Hyborian Adventures & Overlord work just fine. Great graphics, decent frame rates, excellent sound. The only 'recent' game that is giving me problems is Elder Scrolls: Oblivion - but that gives everyone problems on PCs too! Especially as its useless as an RPG out of the box, needs extensive mods added that obviously cause problems. Some older games refuse to work - Might & Magic 7, Dungeon Keeper 2, are examples. I have yet to try DOSBox with the older games. The games requiring a bit of fiddling usually needed running in a 'compatibility mode', Win95 or Win98/Me.
I did have a very poor wireless data rate initially, using Airport (to my access point on the router). Seems a common complaint on these forums. I fixed it (eventually) by turning off Airport, using Ethernet to the router.
We seem not to play the same games - but if you have specific questions, drop me a line and I shall try to help. I am very happy myself with the iMac as a gaming platform. Room for improvements from Apple? - better keyboard mapping for some of the PC games; better audio level control; fewer wireless problems.

I just bought a Ti4600 and on certain games I get a slower fps then with my Voodoo3 card. I loaded new VIA drivers upgraded my mobo bios Loaded the 41.07 drivers from MSI. Changed my AGP Apeture size, turned off acceleration in dxdiag and nothing seem to work. I get about 30 fps in Dungeon Siege and the screen is choppy in Icewind Dale 2. 3DMark2001 SE gives me a 9760 score which I know is low for this card. It was 7100 before I did all these changes.
I have an
AMD 1800+ CPU,
Biostar M7VIQ mobo,
128 DDR ram PC2100(266mhz),
Ti4600 Starforce,
AGP set at 4x with 256M Apeture.
FSB says 133mhz.Yep that certainly is a low score. Normally i would ask for your PSU details but i think perhaps that 128mb DDR is very low for that setup. If you have any spare sticks try adding them but i would get more RAM, you will definately notice the difference.

MSI K7N420 PRO & Philips CDRW1208
I can't get this philips burner working properly with this mobo. anyone got any ideas how to fix that problem?
I've dl-ed all latest drives for mobo and cdrwdrivers.
Nothing helps...the philips only get's into PIO mode (UDMA isn't possible) and when i burn a cd or transfer files from that cdrw to my Harddisc my machine get's ultra slow. So when i burn a cd i can't do anything else X(
I've got a Athlon XP 1800+, 786MB DDR-RAM, 2x 40gig IBM 7200, 1x 80gig maxtor 5400, and ofcoarse this MSI K7N420 PRO mobo.
Hope anyone knows what to do with this...
ps: i also mailed Philips bout this and they told me to get all latest drivers for all this hardware and stuff blalba the usual they say....I had a similar problem with a cheap CD (read-only) that wouldn't copy my Dungeon siege files properly. I bought a CDRW (only slightly more expensive) of a different make and it works perfectly.
The Nforce board has performed flawlessly throughtout, but I had either a bad drive or just a cheap one. Go figure.
I'd say, try another drive and see how it works. There's an old saying (please excuse the epithet): "Ya can't make chicken salad outta chicken sh*t." Quality does play a part is making a system work.
Best of luck,
Rocket
